Even in our futuristic age of AI chatbots and virtual realities, there is still nothing in the world that compares with the thrill of hearing classic genres of music, performed live by a group of exceptional singers and musicians that have truly mastered the ability to move an audience.
That's the philosophy behind Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, whose newly revamped show will blend modern-day earworms and iconic pop hits with the original styles that put American popular music on the map: Ragtime, Swing, Big Band, Country / Western, Doo Wop and Soul. The cast, featuring performers from PMJ’s wildly popular YouTube channel, brings this musical universe to life in magical ways.

Originally set in a small Spanish village, Gaetano Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love” is moving to Oakdale, California, The Cowboy Capital of the World, in the 1800s! This whimsical production from Opera Modesto tells the story Nemorino, a shy ranch hand in love with Adina, a tough, independent ranch owner. She’s more interested in Belcore, an arrogant but charming rodeo star. Desperate, Nemorino buys a “love potion” from the traveling snake oil salesman Dr. Dulcamara, hoping it will win her heart. As Nemorino signs up to be in the traveling rodeo, Adina finally notices his sincere, quiet charm. In the end, it’s Nemorino’s true character—not the potion—that wins her love.
