A livello tecnico, l’opera rientra nel gruppo di lavori tardi basati sull’uso sperimentale ed espressivo della fotografia (si veda qui, p.). Sulla carta fotografica l’artista incide una piccola stella, alcune linee tratteggiate a formare una croce e degli elementi floreali stilizzati. Alla stregua di Agnetti, Guillaume Apollinaire, a cui questo lavoro rende pertanto omaggio, aveva affrontato le questioni poste dalla società coeva mediante una decostruzione delle norme proprie del linguaggio. È da una sua poesia intitolata Il viaggiatore che l’artista mutua, pur modificandolo in parte, il titolo “col piroscafo orfano Verso le nebbie future”, orfano di Futurismo: “Guardavi un banco di nuvole discendente / Col piroscafo orfano verso le febbri future”. Come i calligrammi di Apollinaire trasformano le parole in disegni, così Agnetti potrebbe aver voluto visualizzare con una stella la similitudine tra il mare e la notte delineata dal poeta in quei versi (“Una notte era il mare”) e con gli altri graffi gli elementi iconografici del paesaggio ivi descritto. Il riferimento al Futurismo posto a concludere il titolo dell’opera, si riferisce invece all’adesione a tale movimento da parte di Apollinaire nell’anno 1913.

In technical terms, the work falls into the group of late works based on the experimental and expressive use of photography (see p.). The artist inscribes a small star onto the photographic paper, as well as some dotted lines to form a cross and some stylised floral elements. Like Agnetti, Guillaume Apollinaire, to whom this work hence pays homage, had dealt with the issues put forward by contemporary society by deconstructing the rules of language. It is from one of his poems entitled Le voyageur that the artist borrows part of the title “by steamship orphan Towards future mists”, orphan of Futurism: “Tu regardais un banc de nuages descendre / Avec le paquebot orphelin vers les fièvres futures” (You were looking at a bank of cloud descend / By steamship orphan towards future fevers). Like in Apollinaire’s calligrams, the words are transformed into drawings, hence Agnetti may have wanted to use a star to visualise the similarity between the sea and the night outlined by the poet in those verses (“Une nuit c’était la mer” – One night there was the sea). The other scratches may be to depict the iconographic elements of the landscape described in the poem. The reference to Futurism rounding off the title of the work instead refers to Apollinaire’s entry in that movement in 1913.
