Rustom Cleofe “Ombok” Villamor’s oeuvre is characterized by fascinating abstractions of lifeforms.Theresultingpaintingsareorganicnarratives thatbringouttherichdynamismandenergyoflife. Thisiskeepingwiththeartist’sownexplorationsof nature particularlyhisexperiencelivingonthe shoresofhisnativeSamar.Thepaintingsaremost reminiscentofsea-life adirectlinktotheartist’s roots buttheyalsocelebratethedelightsofother lifeforms.

Villamorhasgainedrecognitionfromavarietyof awardgivingbodies,includingbeingafinalistinthe NonRepresentationalCategoryatthe2015GSIS Art Competition, and a semifinalist in the Oil Categoryofthe2002ArtPetronNationalStudent ArtCompetition.Ombokhashadnumeroussold outsoloshowsandhassuccessfullyexhibitedfor ManilArt2018.

JERRY MORADA

Jerry Morada (b.1979) graduated from the UniversityofthePhilippinesCollegeofFineArts and made a name for himself as an emerging contemporaryartist.Hebeganhiscareerworking asartistforProbeProductions,Inc.,producerofthe awardwinning"ProbeTeam".Heistheamongthe founders of the Guevarra Group together with EdwinTresReyes,GigdePio,andDominicRubio. MoradatookpartinArtExpoMalaysia2009under GalerieJoaquin’sbooth.in2014,hewontheGSIS PrizeinSculpture.JerryMoradahasalwayssought tofuseelementsofabstractionandfigurationinan engrossing configuration of texture, color and compositioninhisbodyofwork.

Two highly distinguished artists are gathered in “Illustrata”, a two-man show featuring top-notch marble sculptures masterfully molded, carved, and refined by Jerry Morada, and adroit visualizations of refined movement illustrated by Ombok Villamor. For this exhibit, we are introduced to a lush selection of works that give prominence to the artists’ peak talents throughout the course of their respective careers. Each artist sets the tone for “Illustrata”, with Jerry Morada introducing a breadth of figurative marble sculptures embellished in luxe color, texture, and form. In essence, the subject of animals in art throughout history is principally a reflection of the artist more than the animals themselves.
