by Robert J. Waldinger What makes a life fulfilling and meaningful? The simple but surprising answer is: relationships. The stronger our relationships, the more likely we are to live happy, satisfying, and healthier lives. Relationships in all their forms—friendships, romantic partnerships, families, coworkers, tennis partners, book club members, Bible study groups—all contribute to a happier, healthier life. And as The Good Life shows us, it’s never too late to strengthen the relationships you already have, and never too late to build new ones. The Good Life provides examples of how to do this.

How to Begin

by Michael Bungay Stanier You’re ambitious, but feel you’ve never been given full permission to find and strive for what’s possible for you. You’ve achieved things in your career, and it’s now time to “climb the second mountain” and think about legacy. You’re unhappy with how the world is working right now, and you want to change your part of it for the better. You’re a coach, and you want to support your clients to be great and do great things. You’re at the start of your adult life, and you’re fired up to live a life of meaning and impact. You’re ready to begin, and to start doing something that matters. How to Begin will help you reclaim your ambition, figure out what you should do that matters… and begin.

Addicted to the Monkey Mind by J.F. Benoist

THE MONKEY MIND CHATTERS ALL DAY… “I look terrible in these pants—why can’t I lose some weight?” “I’m stuck in traffic again. Why didn’t I leave earlier?” “If I wasn’t working all the time, I could have saved my marriage.” …resulting in stress, shame, and ultimately, “Bartender, can I get a drink?” In his book, J.F. Benoist—a visionary thought leader in the fields of addiction treatment and personal development—uses the journeys of two relatable characters to teach you how to develop a powerful new mindset and finally break the pattern of negative self-talk. Enjoy In Joy by Geeco Enjoy In Joy: shares succinct daily inspirations, and quotations spanning from Socrates to Homer Simpson – to help readers find ease and comfort during these uncertain times. River cruise on the Danube

Excitement on the River River cruising is a relaxing, immersive and thoroughly enjoyable form of travel where you can enjoy ever-changing scenery along the banks of waterways. A river cruise is a form of leisure travel that takes guests along inland waterways. Usually there are several port stops over the course of each passage and a typical river cruises often last longer than a week. These vessels can carry anywhere from 100 to 250 guests, depending on the ship size and are popular locally worldwide and on many of the world’s major rivers, including the Danube, Rhine, Volga and Yangtze. The most cosmopolitan cities developed along the rivers, the world’s first trade routes. From iconic “must-sees” like Paris, Amsterdam and Budapest to quaint villages and towns waiting to be discovered, a river provides you easy access to savor the delights of both. Cities like Berlin, Lisbon, Prague, Vienna, Moscow, Cairo and Beijing are just a few that are accessible on a river cruise. In addition to the rivers listed above, cruises along lesser-known rivers like the Mekong in Southeast Asia and the Main in Germany are options. Given that weather will be variable depending on where your river cruise takes you, bringing along both warm and light clothes is wise. Even during warm months, there is wind on the rivers, so it’s best to plan for layers even if the weather is hot. Additionally, you’ll likely be doing a lot of walking, so bring along comfortable shoes. Lastly, pack some dressier clothes in case you attend a formal event while visiting one of your cruise destinations. Whether you choose to travel in the on-season or the off-season, you’ll be able to gain a deep cultural experience in each of your destinations. In the spring and summer, you may witness local outdoor events and lively activities that only occur during the warmer months of the year. Cooler weather in the fall may mean you’ll run into fewer people in the streets of cities and ports you visit, which will allow you to take your time and get a closer look at sites that interest you without feeling rushed or crowded. And in the winter season, you’ll be delighted by festive Christmas markets and enchanted by the holiday traditions and celebrations of the locals. River cruises are great for everyone, especially those desiring a more relaxed and intimate form of travel. Individuals who’ve never stepped foot on a ship before will enjoy the relative ease of a river-bound trip with little chance of seasickness. Furthermore, with a focus on cultural exploration of locations, river cruises are perfect for those with a curiosity about art and history, or a general interest in travel. Every river is unique and each tells a different story—not only of the countries through which it flows, but also of its locks, canals, scenery and bridges. Amazon River Cruise

River Cruise Destinations The best river cruises have always had a mystique to draw travelers in—even those who are new to cruising. For history buffs, they could be an excellent way to visit ancient sites or historical landmarks. For those that love the outdoors, river journeys are a way to experience the natural landscape of the dream destinations. River cruising is an excellent value. The fare you pay is a great vacation value because almost everything is included in the price. River cruising is an easy way to see a region. Cruise companies have carefully planned their itineraries, offering a wonderful mixture of scenery, big city life, and picturesque villages. You won’t need to manage any logistics. If you’re the type who stresses about the details and returns home wondering if you’ve seen all the highlights, relax. All the details are taken care of, from the well-thought-out itinerary to transportation, lodging, and food. River cruise ships are luxurious. River ships are intimate. Because they need to go through locks and under low bridges, river cruise ships have size limitations. What this means is that even the largest of river vessels can carry no more than about 200 passengers. Forget what you may have heard: Newer vessels are a million miles away from the cramped, older ships of yesteryear. Today’s new and updated river cruise ship is a floating, upscale, modern hotel. This year, the river cruise market has been anticipating more travel, so consider booking these once-in-a-lifetime voyages as early as you can. Here, we’ve highlighted the most exciting river cruise itineraries to book for this year and next—from Amazonian expeditions to kidfriendly European voyages, these cruises have something for every kind of traveler.

Viking’s Nile River Cruises Experience the past and present of Portugal as you travel through the Douro River Valley. We are pleased to invite you to join us at this FREE family event, which is ranked #18 for Fine Art Festivals in the nation! IMAGES has something for everyone. Enjoy the work of 225 artists, including three Daytona State College students who have been selected for our 3rd annual Emerging Artist Program, festival food trucks, fabulous live music, arts projects for the kids, and an exhibit of student artwork. Stroll through the park, buy some art, and have a great weekend with family and friends! This year, 2024, marks the 20th year that Atlantic Center for the Arts has presented the Festival. IMAGES was established in 1976 to raise awareness of Doris Leeper’s vision for an artist community and to support the local community. It reflects a mission centered around artists—the proud hallmark of both organizations. Since 1977, Atlantic Center for the Arts has fostered a spirit of innovation and collaboration among the world’s greatest writers, painters, sculptors, choreographers, and composers during residencies held on our 68-acre campus. Integrating the natural environment and architecture and incorporating an interdisciplinary and mentorship approach to its residencies was at the core of founder Doris Leeper’s vision as an artist and environmentalist. ACA has inspired tens of thousands of artists since its first residencies in 1982. Community support has been essential to the successes that we celebrate, and what a joy it is to continue to welcome you to the world and work of our unique programs. We support working artists in our community through gallery exhibitions of Florida artists at Arts on Douglas—be sure to join us for First Saturdays openings—and offer free Arts & Wellness programs that serve over 3,000 youths, caregivers, veterans, and those interested in improving their health through the arts. I believe the power of the arts transforms us and our communities every day and invite you to make Atlantic Center for the Arts a part of your life!

Michael Braun was raised in Rye, NY He studied industrial design at the University of Bridgeport. In his early twenties, Michael became fascinated with the color, feel and designs of fabrics. He turned this passion into art that he could wear. Not only did he design and sew clothes, but often handpainted or embroidered them as well. Michael sailed since a little kid and in 1966, he came to Florida on an Ocean Racing Sailboat to race in the Southern Circuit, which starts in St. Petersburg, FL. A minor sailing accident, however, changed his fate and consequently he began selling the clothes that he had designed and sewn. Word spread to local musicians about these really cool clothing designs, and with his business partner Toni Ackerman, he formed Michael & Toni Designs. Within a year they landed one of their biggest clients, Jimi Hendrix. From that point forward, the client list grew to include many other late 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s musical artists. Michael also explored other avenues in art. Learning about the vast capabilities of technology he discovered the power to hand paint virtually, which involves many brushes like oils, pastels, watercolor, calligraphy and painting on multiple layers that are worked carefully together to create a dimensional feel that’s unique to his style. His creations hang in the “Digital Hall of Fame” in Malmö, Sweden as well as numerous collections throughout the world. Currently, he exhibits in outdoor juried art festivals including Gasparailla Festival of the Arts, Artfest Fort Myers, Mainsail Art Festival, Coconut Grove Art Show, Bonita Springs National Art Festival, Downtown Festival of the Masters, Beaux Arts Museum, Great Gulf Coast Art Festival, as well as IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts in New Smyrna Beach.

Thank you to our 2024 IMAGES Patrons! WHAT IS A PATRON? Atlantic Center for the Arts (ACA) was founded in 1977 by artist, environmentalist, and visionary Doris Leeper. Since its inception, Atlantic Center has been a research and development lab for artists and a leader in arts education programs for the community. The main campus is located on 68 pristine acres in New Smyrna Beach, adjacent to another 2,300 acres of preserved land named after its founder, and includes a studio complex that has won eight national architectural awards, housing for artists, and a gallery and administrative offices. In 2018, the State of Florida awarded ACA for its long-term commitment to diversity/accessible programming. We welcome artists of all abilities at our totally ADA-compliant facilities. The community art center complex, located in the downtown New Smyrna arts district, includes ACA at Harris House, home to our Arts & Wellness and Community programs, and Arts on Douglas gallery, which features the work of professional Florida artists.

The Patron’s Choice Awards, totaling over $200,000 in 2024, demonstrate community support for the Festival, thereby enhancing its reputation and increasing its prestige. IMAGES Patrons support the festival through a donation of $500; $300 is tax-deductible and $200 goes toward the purchase of artwork by any artist. Patrons select work for purchase, then give the artist(s) a prestigious “Patron’s Choice Award” ribbon to be placed in their booth. Access to the Patrons Lounge during Festival hours is a big perk of the program, and Riverside Catering will be preparing lunch Saturday and brunch Sunday!

For a complete list of IMAGES 2024 Patrons visit www.imagesartfestival.org Call Kelly Timmons, ACA Membership and Data Coordinator at 386-427-6975 x23, or e-mail ktimmons@atlanticcenterforthearts.org to enroll as an IMAGES 2024 Patron today.

Arts on Douglas Established in 1996, Arts on Douglas was the vision of Doris “Doc” Leeper, founder of Atlantic Center for the Arts. She and fellow artist/ benefactor Ed Harris transformed the former 1920s-era Ford car showroom into a unique commercial art gallery dedicated to promoting the work and careers of Florida artists. In 2014, the gallery formalized its affiliation with Atlantic Center for the Arts, combining missions, resources, and programs to further facilitate community engagement with the creative arts. Upon entering the gallery, guests will discover a carefully curated selection of contemporary works, arranged to complement this historic building – with its original brick walls and open, beamed ceiling. Meandering through the main gallery, they will discover an impressive display of acrylic, oil, and mixed-media paintings tastefully displayed. Also peppered throughout the space is an array of sculptures, ceramics, and artistically designed jewelry. This ongoing group display highlights work by the 40 artists represented by the gallery, and the space is refreshed with new artwork three times per year. In addition, Arts on Douglas hosts new exhibitions monthly, alternating between two dedicated spaces: the Feature Gallery and the alt_space Gallery. The Feature Gallery is dedicated to solo exhibitions by gallery artists or themed group displays. The alt_space is dedicated to a range of alternative processes, concepts, and installations. On the first Saturday of each month, the gallery welcomes the public to a free reception from 4-7 PM to celebrate a new exhibition in one of these spaces. These lively gatherings are complemented with cocktails and live jazz. Each year during IMAGES: A Festival of the Arts, Arts on Douglas presents their highly anticipated exhibition: ADORN: A Jewelry Invitational in the Feature Gallery. This display showcases curated display of cuttingedge, wearable designs by emerging and accomplished jewelry artists from across the nation. The gallery’s extended hours during IMAGES are Friday – Sunday: 10AM – 5PM. Doris Dollars are accepted at Arts on Douglas during IMAGES Weekend. The gallery’s professional staff also offers clients a range of services including art consultations, previews of artwork on location, commissions, delivery, installation, and shipping. For more information visit www.artsondouglas.net.

Upward Trend Academy, a local K-12 Private School and Pediatric ABA therapy center, has taken the lead as our IMAGES 2024 Creative Education Sponsor, offering four creative and inclusive hands-on, take-away projects during the festival. Upward Trend Academy will help children and their families make beaded flip flop magnets, seashell wind chimes, sun catchers, and painted seashells.
