I am developing as an Architect and Designer with a natural inclination for urbanism, art, photography, design and architecture. When I work, I focus on the person or in the community and, while projecting strive to be simple and functional.

Projecting or Designing in an environment where political, social and economic crisis is arising; is a challenge that Latin American Architects must face. But I believe that surfing the constant crisis gives us the ability to see, think, rethink and solve problems and future necessities. In this context, I like exploring new ways of living and enjoying spaces in order to generate new lifestyles and sensations in the user. In order to achieve this, it is sometimes necessary to break the normal architectural “rules”.

I am ready to use-incorporate my own ideas and knowledge in societies and different countries from mine where I can experience new sensations and possibilities not only in the personal sphere but also within the professional development.

In relation with this, I was a teacher assistant in the Catholic University of Córdoba for some years, and i think knowledge is more important and richer when it is diverse and collective.

REMODELLING OF THE MAIN HEADQUARTER COMPETITION

FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE, URBANISM AND DESIGN - NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF CÓRDOBA

We are in a productive, social and values transformation period, where the representation systems, architectonic typologies and the theory, advance. As Architects, we have to solve future necessities. This is why we must overcome rigidity to promote more versatile and adaptable mechanisms and ways of construction, which can be transformed and promote an Architecture based on equal rights, showing diversity and participation with ecological and sustainable objectives.

Nowadays, the building has a series of drawbacks which make the above impossible. It has an unclear circulation, with different vertical nucleus distributed randomly (typical of a building adapted to the needs of the moment) which obstacle the floor plans function, resulting useless spaces. Another point is the level difference between one tower and another in the same floor, as result, there is a pronounced and not accessible ramp-walkway. As a result of this, the program and visual connexion between both towers is poor. Currently, there is a small scale intern yard that does not allow natural light and ventilation inside.

THE YARD It is a big central space where our proposal is expressed. It is a physical and visual link between both towers, making it function like one building.

The soul of the building is resumed in two actions: 1)Enlarging the yard.

2)Inserting the Circulation Tablet The Central Yard not only respects the legal measures of the Edification Code but also it joints all the areas of the building being, at the same time, a continuation itself.

The yard is part of the hall and the circulation. All the visuals vanish there.

THE MODULE We did a structural module and with that we generated a grid or woven which determined all the element measures. It was a simple way to simplify the execution of the project.

THE CIRCULATION TABLET The objective is to liberate the floor plans. We consider that this is an important action since the building has changed its function several times. The tablet consists of: one vertical core (Service area and Emergency Staircase), the ramp-walkway and the Principal Stair. Also It is a link between both towers, doing them function as a single building.

THE VIEWPOINT BAR To equalize the height of both towers, we generated a light metal structure on the east tower. In this structure the bar is located in order to take advantage of the views to the historical part of the city. On the bar, we decided to put a walkable roof garden and the viewpoint.

THE GROUND FLOOR: HIGH It was essential for us to give double high to the ground floor, not only for its Hall character and relation with the street, but also for its Institutional Building appearance.

The currently Hall needs to be expanded. The new hall continues for all the ground floor, because now the yard is part of it, and through it we get to the auditory.

INTERSPACE A new space between the circulation and the academic activity is generated. It is a place for exchanges, passages or waiting, meetings or to rest. It is a semi-covered or semi-open place.

THE “PLUS” SPACE Now, the Classrooms have a 50% semi-covered surface more and it is double high. This Plus Space is an expansion area of the classrooms, also it has the technical function to separate people from the noisy Velez Sarsfield avenue.

It is the adaptation of an old house for a modern family.

The house is located in the downtown of Huinca Renancó City. It was structurally stable but it had many physical problems and there were evident markers that showed it had already been remodelled before. Its inefficient distribution, with closed small spaces and without interesting views, was not the friendliest.

Originally, the house used the most of the surface to the private area, as bedrooms and a bathroom, and the smallest for the Livingroom, kitchen and dining-room. According to our appreciation, these last spaces are the ones where the greatest family interaction and daytime use happens.

Therefore, our proposal was: -Definition of the users: A couple living other life phase, both of them will travel a lot and stay some periods in this new house. They are living in another bigger house but it is not very light and with many spaces without connection. Their sons are already grown-ups, they are studying and travelling, so they usually visit them for few days.

-Invert uses: we decided to do a mirror of the original spaces of the house. The bedrooms and bathrooms, which were bigger, now are the living room, kitchen and dining room -all social spaces. And where these areas were, now the private and nocturnal spaces are located. The social area was prioritized over the private one. We opened big windows to obtain natural light and cross ventilation. Also, we added a private garden in the fron/façade to earn privacy respect to the street, and generating at the same time a natural Hall. Then, we added a Second construction at the bottom of the land. In this space there is a garage, laundry room, bathroom, technic yard and a Studio. Finally, a last social spaces was added which connects the inside with outside. This is an important gallery with movable panels helping to control the sun.

- In constant movement: Finally, the house has a play upon lights and shadows, which make it be in constant change.

The entrances have a series of beams which work not only as sun-shades, but also give importance to both entrances.

In the West façade, the gallery has a series of horizontal lines in both the roof and in the movable door panels with aesthetic and functional value.

Summing up, the AP house, of small dimensions with a simple functionality, is shown as a contemporary house, where the social and current lifestyle is prioritized, without pretension but with a beauty which gives it simplicity.

03_SAN MARTÍN SQUARE

Year: 2018 Program: Square Remodelation Centralities Master Plan Place: Huinca Renancó, Arg. Objective: Update, Renew and Mantein essence.

Located in the centre of a small town in Argentina, San Martin Square is an important point as the main buildings of the town are surrounding it; the city hall, the church, the theatre, the bank and the police station. San Martin Square was and is the centre of political and public life.

I think that the adaptation of these spaces to current times is important in order to offer places of permanence that invite people to meet with each order, without losing its civic character.

In relation to the project, we had a low budget so the City hall decided to do it in steps. I was in charge of the first part which entailed the renovation of the centre of the square. It has a main pole for the Argentinian Flag and then around it, there are 33 more for Latin American Countries. These flags are only raised once a year.

The project consisted of rearranging the 33 poles all together in a new esplanade. In this way they were given a new meaning and presence within the square. Before, they were sparse and not very visible, whereas now they are united acquiring one identity.

Seeing all the poles together is very interesting because they cast their shadows and create an eye-catching effect. Each one of them has a light at the top so at night time the poles are bathed in lights of different colours. This can be used to commemorate special dates or simply to illuminate Once concluded this project, it was very interesting to see how the population accepted this small intervention. It was a very simple and economic solution but produced an important change in the urban space, especially in a small town such as Huinca Renancó.

04_ARGENTINIAN HOUSE

Eclecticism A combination of styles, of roots, of essences. This is what you can appreciate in this house. Influenced by the looms and native colours of northern Argentina, the antique furniture, the influence the Spanish modernism of the 70s, the owners demanded a new atmosphere while preserving the essence and quality of the space.

Setting this mood in these spaces was a challenge, because it was necessary to play or surf with all these different styles in the same place. First, I decided to strip myself of everything (objects and furniture) which do not combine with these styles. So, I did a compilation of photographs from the north of Argentina, in order to make a map of colours and textures. Taking this as a starting point, together with the style the house already had, I could achieve a harmonic, different and unique space.

CONTEXT We have been living big social, cultural, technological, political changes in the last years. Although we suppose it has always been like this, today we live faster.

In the last 15 years, technology has advanced quickly, it will probably continue doing it, and people have changed with it. We are living in a real and tangible city but also in a city that is not there, which is like a cloud where everything happens, everything could happen and we can travel from one to the other city constantly. Everyone, in one way or another, inhabits this “Cloud City” where opportunities and knowledge are infinite and universal, they can be transmitted quickly and correctly. Despite all this, this new cloud city has a big problem: People who live in the same place but do not see or hear each other.

The new generation was born with these changes and they have always been part of this new society and technological development since the internet has always been a part of them. In relation to Education, its spaces has not advanced at same rhythm as these changes. For the new generation these transformations have been poor, and is normal that they think so, because they have ALL THE INFORMATION available on their Smartphones. We as architects must recognize this problem and take responsibility.

This problem is affecting the whole world, but in Latin America it is very evident that education needs to change.

As I said before and taking into account our profession, we focus on EDUCATIONAL SPACES. Architecture must encourage these changes and help them to progress, but also it should maintain other important qualities.

PROJECT Human beings always need another one to be someone. We are sociable by nature and learn with others. This point is the key of the knowledge so our project for the New campus of UCC Faculty of Health Sciences, makes it focus on creating spaces that promote physical meeting.

In relation to the architecture, (1) first we respected the existing building structure tissue (preserving the current building structure was required by the competition rules). We decided to place the (2) five strips from East to West, separated from each other by patios. (3) Then, one of these is cut to give place to a Central and Institutional Patio. At the same time, (4) these strips are cut by tissue circulation: These are series of walkways in both directions and are repeated on all levels. (5) These walkways cut the patios transforming them in micro-patios. These micro-patios have different functions depending on the activities that are done into the strips. These patios will immediately become perfect meeting places: There are administrative patios, institutional, others with a lot of tables, chairs and sofas because the bar is there, others more silent and calm where you can study, etc. Basically, the students have the possibility to appropriate them as they want. This happens in the ground floor, but in the other levels happens the same but in circulation walkways where the students have contact with other in the different levels. The contact can be in many ways, for example: I can be walking on a walkway on the fourth floor and I can see at the same time other people doing any activity in the ground floor patio. The idea of this is to help, with the building, to create more spaces to produce these constant meeting points in any place.

We took the decision to design the new building in strips because it is easier to build in steps. Each strip can be built individually, so it does not interrupt the performance of the other. At the same time, (6) this way of implantation, allows the building to permeate with the nearby environment. Its 4 floors (not counting the six floors of a future tower for a future private investment) helps to conserve the neighbourhood scale.

Our project goes with these social, technological and educational changes. We think that medicine is one of the disciplines which has advanced the most. This is why it was necessary to change the educational space. The idea was to combine a rigid discipline such us medicine, with free appropriation and social interaction spaces. As Architects, we must understand that the spaces which we design are educators in themselves.

It is a new function in an old house.

We started this project in September 2021. This can be seen in the pictures attached.

The old house is in excellent constructive condition. It has a French and classic style. But when you are intervening in an old house, we think that everything new that is proposed has to have an evidently contemporary character. So, we conserved the wardrobes, the wood floor and the openings. We decided to (punch a wall) and show the bricks. In this way, we achieved different textures to play with the lights. In order to maintain the essence of the old house, we opted to keep the green color of the wardrobes, but it was brightened in order to get a more modern green. We designed the lighthing to create differents moods In this moment, the project is still in construction. The pictures I have shared represent what has been done until now.

07_SCHOOL RIGHT NOW!

School like prisons What do you associate with a row of closed doors in a corridor where you cannot leave without permission? And also a bell that orders you when to enter, exit, start or finish the activities? What does it look like?

What would happen if a doctor or engineer from 50 years ago woke up from their grave?

How would it be if you took them back to their work place? Would there be many changes?

What would happen if a teacher from 50 years ago woke up from his/her grave? Would it be so different from what they were used to? Everything is still there: the bell, the classroom, the corridor, the desks, the subjects, the breaks, the flag and the anthem.

While walking and analyzing the city of Córdoba, Argentina, we found a core problem, and a very famous one in Latin American Countries; EDUCATION. Most of the social, political, and economic problems are due to the lack of it. The little investment in these countries in relation to education is evident. Schools are not schools; they are empty buildings without infrastructure. These aren’t places where a child can learn or enjoy staying at.

Governments sometimes build new “schools” but these are all the same; since politicians do not take into account the different contexts: the neighborhoods, the people who will go to these schools, and the weather conditions in a country with a wide range of environments. In fact, they don’t take anything into account. For them the only thing that matters is to open as many schools as a possible, it is not important where, what, or who they are for. It is a political facade and a sad reality. Besides, there is an important question, what happens with the rest of the schools?

So, we defined four problems that education has: A) Modern/Actual/Current Model Education: students are divided into age groups and the curriculum into subjects. It goes across all the steps in a lineal way. However, the learning process is never lineal.

B) The Physical Space: it hasn’t evolved as much as other professional workplaces.

C) The Classroom: it is a closed room with four walls and a 7m x 7m dimension where lessons are given in a unidirectional way, where children and teenagers spend most of their academic training.

D) The School in Itself and how its space is distributed: the relations between the different places and their boundaries; the inside/outside, the classroom/corridor, and school/city.

Considering these four problems, we do not state that there are not places in the city that do need new schools, but we are convinced that the existing ones must be restructured. Educational establishments have to be rethought in relation to new pedagogies, new ways of using the spaces and new ways of understanding the institutional presence in an urban context.

Throughout this work, the multiple disciplines and the different factors which are involved in such an important topic were evidenced.

Education is a reflex of the social, economic and political reality of each country. To generate the big transformations that education needs, all these factors must work together in order to achieve that change.

As architects our duty is to rethink the school environment as an educator in itself where the experience is vital for the learning and understanding of its members. We have all universally accepted that past teaching methods are not adequate for learning in the present.

It is time to accept that the older education spaces are not suitable anymore.

With this research, we collected data and architectural proposals dating back from 80 years ago, that show that our profession is failing to keep up in this context, since educational spaces are nowadays still avant-garde.

Throughout this investigation, more doubts appeared in relation to the initial question of “How teaching and learning spaces should be tomorrow?” Our proposal is only one possible solution, but there will be more, there must be more and they will have to be better.

Our proposal is a “SPACE RECONFIGURATION PLAN OF THE EDUCATIONAL ARCHITECTURE” that can be used in all the schools.

This plan has three important steps: 1. Current situation diagnostic: Quantitative and qualitative survey.

2. Architectonic Program Reconfiguration: Understanding that today what we call “classroom” is only one of a series of classrooms and there are other spaces where we can learn. Those spaces invite students to move and feel free and not to stillness and confinement.

3. Proposal Application: We chose three schools in Córdoba City with different urban and social situations, historical backgrounds, educational levels and different pre-existing building problems as well.

(These three steps were developed in the book thesis but here I have just given a small explanation as a summary).

It’s an implementation program for existent educational buildings. Each one will have particular solutions that answer particular problems. The same program will be applied in new educational buildings.

3. We chose three schools in Córdoba City with different urban

and social situations, historical backgrounds, and different pre-existing problems in the buildings themselves. We wanted to show that any architect can implement the diagnostics (Point 1) and the program (point 2) in any school.

Each school, in its own, is a project challenge, and shows how within the generic macro proposal the results will be always different.

As regards my work, I dealt with the JERÓNIMO LUIS DE CABRERA School.

The Jeronimo Luis de Cabrera School (JLCS) is part of the Palace Schools in Córdoba City, for its architecture it is one of the most beautiful buildings of the city. It was declared “Artistic Interest Asset” by the Nacional Commission of Monuments, Places and Historical Assets in 2009.

The Mannerist-Renaissance building has a main central body with two floors which gives a monumental character to the facade. The leading entrance commands the face of the building. Followed the second body with three floors (underground level, the ground floor and the first floor) displayed around a central courtyard or cloister surrounded by a gallery where all the spaces converge.

The main problem that this building has is that when it was built, style was more important than the inner function. As a result, this construction is not functional since there are spaces without human scales, short of natural light and inaccessible. The three levels of the second body do not correspond with the two levels of the first block, as with level 0. Each space has a different level from the other. It seems as if that the aesthetics of the architecture meant accommodating spaces like tetris making the architectonic program enter in the building without breaking the aesthetic proportion of the exterior. Is it really important to maintain an architectonic style which makes a building useless?

At the same time, the school has strong potential spaces without use, and I would even say, abandoned: The patios.

The first one facing the street, has a small scale and a big senseless fence, although the building is safe and closed in itself. The second, the Cloister, is a hot pavement patio without shadows, vegetation, furniture or specific use. The third, a roofed yard without natural light which it is actually used like deposit. And finally, the outside patio, similar in characteristics to the cloister, therefore without the possibility to do sports.

As a result, my proposal aims at incorporating the new ARCHITECTONIC PROGRAM RECONFIGURATION (point 2) in this building, not only to improve the functionality but also to promote learning and teaching spaces.

The main idea consists on changing the building centrality, which works around a cloister, into a building that is crossed through a longitudinal axis, creating four yards. The spaces that before had no specific use, now define the program: The First, the Decompression Space, followed by the Green Yard surrounded by galleries, then a third yard with a translucent envelope and finally a sports yard.

The Decompression Space is a not defined but necessary space between the school and the city. I decided to remove the big fence and the entrance stain was replaced by a new one with ramps and extensive landings for people to take a break, wait for their children and chat. With these simple actions we managed not only to remove the architectonic barriers but also we created an urban “square”, achieving a school-city connection link.The Green Yard which was a hot pavement patio without shadows now is a Natural Hall, creating an inside-outside link with only the incorporation of vegetation.

Similarly, the third yard was transformed into a cafeteria with a new translucent envelope, which allows the natural light and its use in any season of the year. Finally, the fourth yard where a court and bleachers were incorporated for sports use.

As regards Classrooms and education spaces, the following actions were taken: - A series of Platforms with ramps and furniture were incorporated to create a smooth transition between the different height levels.

-Openings facing these yards were opened to create communica-

tion and natural light.

-Light mezzanines inside the 6-meters-high classrooms were incorporated, doubling the square meters of these spaces and getting a scale according to the function.

With this project I tried to work with a kind of architectonic acupuncture, with the least amount of demolition as possible since the walls are portent and the building structure did not allowed it. It was not aimed at interfering in the original style of the building and every new intervention had an evident look of a new project. However, the main objective was to improve the quality of the space on top of the preservation of an educational architecture which as time passes is becoming more and more obsolete.

Cantarella’s Family asked me an architectural, interior design project and direction for their guest bathroom. The project consisted on changing all the water pipes, the tiles election as well as the toilet, taps and fittings.

This family have a quarry in a farm in the mountains of Córdoba, so I asked them, if they could give me a block of stone to will do a Natural Stone Hand Wash Basin. When they accepted, I chose the tile for the shower, taking that stone as reference.
