DESIGN MANIFESTO

The design principles of the brand are inspired in my grandma. She used to have a lot of nice dresses in her wardrobe some made by her and others made by a seamstress in her size.

The think I like the most about them is that they were unrepeatable, she used to buy fabrics from different places and then carefully combine them to create her dresses.

Gaal’s goal is to create clothes using the same principles, beautiful and unique handmade pieces. Each garment is created in a long-lasting and sustainable way, there will not be more than 1 garment in every size in each retail store (from XS to L).

The main silhouettes of the brand are simple, it’s all about the fabric, color and texture. The idea is to create timeless, luxurious, sometimes sexy, and unabashedly chic garments.

CLIENT PROFILE Gaal clothes are not likely to appeal to the typical consumer, the designs are attuned to a contemporary Brigitte Bardot and Alain Delon, who like to go constantly on holidays, and are interested in fashion not just as a daily costume, but instead as a tool to empower themselves.

These clothes are meant to allow people to feel outstanding, free and comfortable at anytime. Since spring is being over the year highly related with femininity, the aim is to reform ideas and use this as a tool of power. Our client likes to feel elegant but playful and bold, someone who leads a life with passion.

Our Gaal customers are conscious of what they buy, they know how to appreciate a garment for its quality and craftsmanship, and give importance to a product manufacturing. They like to expresses their individuality through their clothing and purchase decisions. Highly passionate for art, culture and traveling. This target group gravitates towards premium and luxurious brands, and the experience offer by them.

ADAMO FONS .

ADAMO FONS translated love for SPRING. It is a collection inspired on a lecture about the rebirth of nature link to culture. The aim is to take some elements from Ecuadorian art and reinterpret them in a symbolic way, throught the use of colors, shapes and embroidery. The main artist from who the color palette borns are Oswaldo Guayasamin and Xavier Portilla; while the storytelling has been done in collaboration with Cristina Wong.

Oswaldo Guayasamin is a painter who’s work has to phases in one side he gives a voice to the downtrodden masses; he paints faces that explode with fury over injustice; and in the other side he creates calmed and expressive portraits that reflect the love for family. Xavier Portilla, meanwhile is a painter who portraits joyful and colorful images related to culture and diversity.

Another key element in the collection is the use of poems made

by Cristina Wong, they take the collection to another level giving a voice to the pieces and create a more sensorial experience.

The idea of bringing art, literature and fashion together is to create a collection that represents spring as an ensemble of elements related to the process of growing. In order to achieve this, SPRING will be represent through 4 main elements.

The first is the organic shapes embodied in fabric, through the technique of marbling. The second one is embroidery carefully made over the marbled fabric; the third one is some white cords embroided in flower shapes over a white background with color thread to emphasized the idea of spring. Finally, the fourth element are some lines of poems embroidered over the garments preserving the original handwriting.

Collaboration with Riccardo Luci

To do this collection Gaal made a collaboration with the florentine artist and artisan Riccardo Luci.

He works on the technique of paper-marbling. A technique that was firstly developed in Safavid Persia and Ottoman Turkey. Nevertheless, he has take this technique and developed it in his own special way.

Usually this technique can be seen on book covers, letters, boxes and paper; but in this case we decided to apply it over fabric. Like this we create unique prints that are unrepeatable.

In the other hand the kaleidoscopic effect of this technique matches perfectly the idea of nature, spring and organic shapes; and the process behind the creation of each print is related to the sequence of growing and birth of flowers.

Collaboration with Cristina Wong Cristina from Ecuador, studies latin american literature in Buenos Aires. Early on in her life, she developed great interest in all forms of art, specially in the writing genres.

In her poetry she works with her mother language, spanish, and accentuates sensitive images as a form of political performance.

After inheriting a large number of lyrical traditions, her eclectic style takes within the voices of many poetic figures that set up a free verse poem charged with an abundance of senses, feelings and significances.

By taking on this eclectic procedure and puting a writing form of art on this collection, the power of the images increases. Now, the calligraphy works as an added sense that follows the figures in the poem, such as flowers, colors, bodies, smells, wounds and landscapes. As a result, it creates a piece of art that appeals to the literary sensitivity of the skin that wears it.

This story that narrates in a nostalgic and magic way a past love from spring.

A lot of symbolic elements are use in this short tale.

The idea is create a runway filled with flowers to awaken the senses. At the time that the runway is happening projections on the house will me made related to the story of the “yaloman” flower. This video is gonna be shoot with the garments of the collection and the main character will be a ginger girl who goes through all this memories like inside of a dream.

At the end of the runway there will be a cocktail party, serve in a picinic aesthetic with all the food and drinks inspired by flowers.

Comenzaba con una casa de chapa, vidrios quebrados y polvo granulado.

Arriba brillaba una máscara dorada de rayos verticales. Detrás se alzaba la media noche dando paso a una luna de rostro madre y constelaciones de mitad de año. Al tarot en la ventana le caía una gota de luz. Y junto a la casa estaba la plaza azul adornada con un canto de gorriones, melodía que cruzaba el cielo, fuentes danzantes y delincuentes dormidos. Aquella vez, un pálpito de verano sumía a los ancianos en meditaciones de mar que el agua repetía cayendo en piedras sobre el tarot, la chapa, la plaza, la ciudad. Y sobre todo eso había una flor de pétalos rosa, en el estanque, marchitando rota bajo un refulgir de smog.

Pero en su tierra brillaban girasoles, había pasto y una falda de seda gris, la recuerdo bien. Pero también frío. Había un sobre de té que sacaste de la taza tras un tic del reloj y reposaste sobre un libro de versos octosílabos.

Había ruido en la selva, muchedumbre vegetal y un sastre llevaba una canasta sobre el hombro, cruzando el río. Y yo recuerdo también que paseabas tambaleante entre esa nube y esa sed, que habías tú, beso de azúcar y miel. Recuerdo que dejabas restos de opio bajo la almohada, que había sombra y frío. Y entre el papel y aquella visión dejabas un espacio en blanco entre líneas para que yo inscribiera con tinta la imagen del fuego en el espejo; para que cayera una lágrima y las mías, atascadas, me inundaran; para que dijeras, aunque estuviera ausente, que había una flor.

Allá, cuando el ruiseñor trinaba a unas flores amarillas, cuando un reino de cuervos se arrojaba al mar y cuando las golondrinas deseaban ser gaviotas o río o selva, me llevaba pétalos entre hojas de aliso y cuanta lluvia cayera sobre el vidrio. Corríamos desiertos y montañas sin hallar Babel ni un hombre junto al fuego, pero esperaba la chimenea entre ramas dulces y masa cruda. Pues ahora declamo que todo está perdido y me quedo acá, jugando en el jardín, coleccionando las mariposas que reposan en la plaza, porque de este lado nos robaron ya las alas.

Mas hoy, que en una chinería colmo toda mi suerte y destino de los astros.

Hoy, que te recuerdo pálida frente a mí, vestigio leve de mi sangre, amor de primavera torrencial, quiero crearte un rostro de ojos marcados por los rayos del sol y piel tostada en mares turquesa y piedra azul. Te pondré manos impregnadas de tierra negra en el arado de terraza de páramo o quizá manchadas en el bananal del valle. Figuraré tu selva menos pulcra, porque los insectos asechan y por las noches el ruido de tu proliferación no permite conciliar los sueños en islas de alta mar. Voy a narrar tu paisaje sin analogías orientales. Hoy, que tengo mi chinería del otro lado, te diviso pura, paisaje micro cósmico, Aleph de los mil sueños de invierno.

Reposa tranquila, tierra viva, que vuelvo para narrarte. Vive y permite que muera en tu lecho de hojas verdes y pantanos, que respire tu aire de cacao tostado y que me sumerja por siempre en tus cristales tibios de mis más anhelados días.
