My name is Gabriela Pacheco. My major is in Architecture. I am a first-generation college student at Thomas Jefferson University. I recently transfered this year from Brookdale Community College in New Jersey after receiving my Associates in Science in Architecture. My personal interests include listening to music, watching TV shows and documentaries, and doing my nails. I also enjoying drawing, but it is a skill I am focusing at getting better. I strive to work hard and push myself to have great outcomes.

Selecting an existing cabin, the story is told through the experience of materials. In this selection of the Permanent Cabin, the element most prominent is the modular structure to be easily assembled off-site to be taken to a remote location. The idea of this cabin is to have privacy, yet allow sunlight during the day.

Permanent Camping Elk State Park

Casey Brown Architects created Permanent Camping in a remote site located in Glenroy, Australia. Due to the nature of it being located on a remote site, the construction of the building was fabricated together by Jeffery Broadfield in a separate location and extracted onto the site.

This two-story copper clad tower structure was meant to allow panoramic views for many miles across the horizon. The minimal footprint of the building is 9.8 ft by 9.8 ft. Meant for only 2.5 people, there is a stove and one bed. There are moveable verandah roofs on three sides of the tower to allow light in during the day and close during nighttime. Water is collected in a separate unit from the building slightly away from the tower.

Cultural Community Not-for-Profit Center

ARCH 311- Design 5 for Architecture Thomas Jefferson University

Being located in South Philadelphia in Girard Estates, a NPO center was to be built. I partnered with JEVS Human Services that helps immigrants with shelter and seek employment. I focused on the Central Latin American immigrants group. Through this group, there are cultural ties designed in to create a space that is no so unfamiliar to them.

With having a courtyard, it provides a private outdoor space for residents staying in this space. Outdoor gathering are a cultural symbol of celebration in Latin culture. This space encourages those to communicate with each other and form connections.

Taking Feedback and Using Inspo Pictures Picking a Sci-fi/ Fantasy movie, I selected Cloud Atlas. From that selection, I took inspiration of the message and the illustrations shown to create a new story to it. The story was told through a series of collages put together through Adobe Photoshop.

Future dystopia is an area of time that romanticizes technology advancement. Ignoring feelings and emotions such as love, sadness, and happiness. A woman, named

Cora, is the dictator of the City of Darkness. This city is the prime example of glorifying technological advancement to make sure everyone is in their place and follows rules.

Color is taken away as Cora fears it sparks creativity. Next

to the City of Darkness is the City of Color. In this city, there are modern thoughts of skyscrapers with color and the people govern themselves.

Cora has a 13-year-old son named Raven. Raven went to his mom one day expressing interest in visiting the City of Color. He spent hours everyday looking out of his window to see the City of Color, only dreaming of what it would be

like to be in a space of color. Cora was instantly filled with vitriol at her son’s words. She immediately shushed him and sent him off to his room.

2. Imagination of What Could Be

Raven was angered by his mom’s decision. He had

never wanted to see anything more and nothing was going to stop him. He started packing up some things in a bag and waited until it was resting time to sneak out. Raven left later that night and never showed up to first meal time.

Cora noticed Raven’s absence and knew instantly where her son had gone. She was infuriated at how foolish her son was.

Raven was on the Kanbar border of the two cities ready to see a new space of imagination. Crossing over

was difficult but he was almost through when he heard a loud overhead sound. He instantly saw it was one of his mother’s ships. The ships were ready to attack the City of Color to find Cora’s son. The ships started letting out their

fire rapidly and hit the Kanbar border. Raven was flung out of the building as well as the structure and skin of Kanbar.

find him. It remained a mystery if Raven survived and the City of Color was burned down to shambles.

Fluidity of Nature Architectural Artifacts Exhibit ARCH 261 - Architectural Studio I Brookdale Community College

In honoring Zaha Hadid in this exhibit space, I utilized elements of the surrounding site and added them into the design.

Fluidity of nature is my concept in that the site didn’t have much landscape. I added landscape into the exhibit space to allow people a space away from the busy noise outside.

The pattern of a single glass panel follows landscaping diagram.

Sun Path

The roof of this building brings the gallery to life and emulates the ideas Zaha Hadid expressed throughout her career. The curved line derived off the river line that lays to the left of the site.

Followed by that, glass paneling is installed on the roof to allow more natural light into the space.

The roof rises in area where the most curvy parts are and lay on the existing structure for support.

Interactive Space YMCA Daycare Center

ARCH 262 - Architectural Studio II Brookdale Community College

Creating a daycare where children are free to explore their minds and be creative was my thought process in making my concept as an interactive space. Children can get overstimulated very easily, so I created a spaces only meant to be interactive at certain times to indicate to children about different transitions throughout their day at daycare.

These sections illustrate the different roofs in different spaces.

Sun scoops in a triangular shape are placed in areas that are meant to be interactive in their own different ways. Places to highlight those spaces are the multi-purpose room, classrooms, and entrance hallway.

Interior interactive spaces are brought to life with triangle shadows created by the roof over the hallway. The multipurpose room is open, but still defined by walls that include a rock-climbing wall and a glass wall to oberve play.

Outdoor interactive spaces are taken place in the playground where colors are vibrant and triangular-shaped equipment is to encourage children to interactive and play.

Triangles are associated with being more dynamtic and interactive, as opposed to circular objects which are associated with being calm.
