FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS Every year, the Texas State Panhellenic Council releases a Financial Disclosure statement to help potential new members understand the cost associated with joining a sorority. In the document you will find the answers to some of the most asked questions about finances, definitions of terms listed, and an estimation of each chapter's dues and what is and what is not included. As with any membership based organization, it is a requirement of all members to stay current on financial dues. Be sure to discuss expectations and finance responsibilities with those closest to you. Please reference the financial closure statement on the panhellenic website for the most accurate and up to date information.

PRESIDENT Hello everyone! My name is Faith Loughrey, and I am your Panhellenic Executive Board President. On behalf of Texas State Fraternity and Sorority Life, I want to let you know how excited we are to have you on our campus and possibly within our organization. Our Greek community here at Texas State is full of opportunities and valuable experiences which we hope you choose to take part in.

Texas State Panhellenic is made up of 8 National Panhellenic Conference chapters. The Fraternity and Sorority Life Office is also home to 25 additional chapters from the Interfraternity Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Multicultural Greek Council. Our four incredible councils work closely together to create a unified and intentional network that makes up our Greek family.

As a potential new member of our Panhellenic community, I want you to know how impactful being a member of a sorority can be. Each of the 8 chapters is unique in its own way, but we come together as a council through our love and passion for service, academics, sisterhood, leadership, and social involvement. We hope our potential new members embody these similar values and contribute to the growth of our community.

I want to remind you to stay true to yourself and to follow your heart during this process.

Focus on the things you value, the person you want to become in college, the difference you hope to make, and most importantly, have fun! The personal growth you can experience during this time is immaculate, and we hope it follows you through life after Texas State.

VICE PRESIDENT OF RECRUITMENT Welcome to Texas State University!

We are so excited to introduce you to your collegiate and Panhellenic experience during your first few weeks on campus. We pride ourselves on creating a safe and inclusive community for all of our members. Your decision to join a Panhellenic sorority is one that commits you to collegiate years focused on personal development, service, and connection along with a continued goal of improving our campus and community.

While your college experience may only last four years, the bonds of sisterhood paired with the memories you will make will last you a lifetime.

Over the recruitment weekend, you may see yourself in one chapter or another; you make think you already know where you want to run home to on Bid Day. I encourage you to keep an open mind to opportunities in every chapter that you visit. You are not just joining a single organization, but a whole community of Panhellenic women, who are so excited to get to know you, and welcome you with open arms.

Within our Panhellenic community you will have so many opportunities to grow and thrive. Each of our eight chapters adds unique value and meaning to the Greek community here at Texas State. We believe that Greek life is only the stepping-stone to facilitate your personal development and involvement in organizations across campus; our hope is to support other organizations on campus in addition to our own members.

ABOUT THE COUNCIL The Panhellenic Council is a collegiate chapter of the National Panhellenic Conference.

The Panhellenic Council is a board of student leaders chosen to govern the eight Panhellenic sororities at Texas State University. They operate on the values of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Friendship, and Integrity.

DIVERSITY EQUITY INCLUSION The Texas State University Panhellenic Council desires to build a community that reflects diversity and inclusion within our sorority chapters. We strive to make our campus an inclusive environment for all students and create a positive change within the Greek community.

OTHER COUNCILS INTERFRATERNITITY COUNCIL (IFC): The Interfraternity Council oversees 10 chapters that range in size from 15-75 members. We have created a page for each chapter that has some quick facts that will help you get to know the organizations better.

NATIONAL PAN-HELLENIC COUNCIL(NPHC): The National Pan-Hellenic Council at Texas State University is the governing body for historically African-American fraternities and sororities, also known as Black Greek-Lettered Organizations.

MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL(MGC): The governing body for culturally based sororities and fraternities. The council serves as a coordinating body for all formal recruitment activities, social activities, workshops, seminars and community service projects. We do not discriminate against any type of sexuality or gender appearance.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS Student Services STUDENT HEALTH CENTER The Texas State Student Health Center provides primary care, urgent care, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, sports medicine, transgender care and travel health services to university students. We have experienced healthcare providers, including physicians and nurse practitioners. Services are available by appointment.

Medical, laboratory, digital radiography and pharmacy services are available on-site.

The Student Health Center is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC

STUDENT RECREATIONAL CENTER Campus Recreation engages our diverse Texas State Community by providing innovative and inclusive recreation and employment opportunities to cultivate lifelong wellbeing.

THE COUNSELING CENTER The Counseling Center supports the mental health and wellness of students as they navigate college transitions and other life experiences. Services include counseling, consultation, crisis response, and educational workshops and webinars. There are no additional fees for Counseling Center services, which are confidential and provided by trained professionals to currently enrolled Texas State students while classes are in session.

AT TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY The Fraternity and Sorority Life community here at Texas State University is a community that strives for excellence in every aspect of collegiate life. We encourage and value community outreach, personal development, advancement in scholastic endeavors, along with lifelong friendships through the bonds of sisterhood. Fraternity and Sorority Life at Texas State provides the opportunity for new students to get involved in an organization and community that promotes campus involvement and personal growth.

If you join one of our 8 Panhellenic sororities on campus, you also become a part of our Panhellenic community. The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) was founded in 1902 and is the governing body for 26 inter/national women’s fraternities and sororities. Each member group is autonomous, as a social, Greek letter society. Members are represented on more than 600 college and university campuses in the United States and Canada, and currently there are more than 5,300 alumnae associations of over 3 million sorority women.

WHAT TO EXPECT AS A NEW MEMBER Study Hall Hours: Each chapter requires a certain number of study hall hours dependent on your GPA to be completed each week. Each sorority implements a number of educational programs to ensure the success of their members.

Panhellenic Events: Panhellenic hosts, different events throughout the semester to give current and new members the opportunity to meet with other women outside of their specific chapter. It is a place for building community and having fun with other members of our community.

Philanthropy Events: Each chapter enjoys serving its national and local philanthropy. Philanthropy events are hosted to promote unity within the chapter and Greek community while helping a worthwhile cause.

Active Participation: As a new member, you are required to attend weekly new member meetings in addition to chapter meetings. You are also encouraged to participate in Greek and other on-campus events.

These events are not only fun but they offer you the opportunity to meet other Greek life members at Texas State. ‘

A look into RECRUITMENT WEEK Recruitment at Texas State University begins on August 28th, 2022, and concludes on Bid Day of September 6th, 2022. For many of you, this will be your first impression of San Marcos and Greek Life at Texas State. We sincerely hope you enjoy all that we have planned for you! Remember to be yourself, relax, and just know this all for, and to find you the perfect home away from home!

VALUES-BASED RECRUITMENT We strive to focus on a Values-Based Recruitment in our Panhellenic community. We emphasize academics, equality, inclusion, and service, and we encourage you to be conscious of these values through the recruitment process. We also encourage you to consider which chapters have values that align with your own as you move through the recruitment process.

The weekend of Primary Recruitment consists of three main events that are structured to show you what each sorority has to offer. You will also have the opportunity to meet current sorority women in each chapter. Take the time to ask questions that you have about financial obligations, activities, scholarships, new member programs, and campus life in general. It is very important that you keep an open mind through this process and carefully decide where YOU feel you fit best within the Greek community.

Please recognize that Primary Recruitment at Texas State University is a mutual selection process meaning that both the Potential New Member and the individual sororities are making choices. Throughout the invitational rounds of recruitment, Potential New Members will be able to rank/preference the chapter-specific parties they wish to attend and the chapters will make decisions regarding the women they want to invite to their parties. Potential New Members should understand that they may not receive an invitation to all the parties that they would like to attend. While this may seem overwhelming, the Panhellenic Executive Board and Recruitment Counselors will better explain this process at Orientation and throughout the recruitment weekend.

WHAT TO EXPECT

DAY 0: ORIENTATION Sunday, August 28th: You will meet your Recruitment Counselors and get a presentation from FiredUp. You will also have the opportunity to mix and mingle with women from each of our 8 Panhellenic chapters.

DAY 1: SISTERHOOD Recruitment Day one, you will meet with all eight chapters.

On this day you will learn about each chapter's sisterhood as well as membership requirements concerning finances.

DAY 2: PHILANTHROPY DAY Recruitment Day two, you will meet with up to five chapters. It is perfectly normal to have five meetings this day. Do not let the number of chapters on your schedule deter you.

DAY 3: PREFERENCE NIGHT Recruitment Day three, you will meet up to two chapters. On this day you will be signing the MRABA. (please see page 17 for information on the MRABA.) DAY 4: BID DAY Recruitment Day four, you will meet with your recruitment group and your bids will be distributed at Bobcat Stadium. Once you receive and open your bids, you will be transported to your new home!

Potential New Member: Any woman who is eligible to participate in Primary Recruitment or Continuous Open Bidding.

Active: A sorority member currently in college, who has been formally initiated by her chapter Alumna: an initiated sorority member who is no longer active in a collegiate chapter Bid: a formal invitation to joining a sorority or fraternity Campus Total: The allowable chapter size as determined by College Panhellenic Continuous Open Bidding (COB): The period in which a sorority that has not met the Campus Total is able to recruit members Single Intentional Preference: When a PNM attends more than one preference event but limits her membership selections by not listing all of the options on her MRABA. Legacy: A PNM whose mother or sister is an alumna of, or active member in, a particular sorority.

National Panhellenic Conference (NPC): Founded in 1902, NPC provides support and guidance for its 26 member inter/national sororities and women’s fraternities and serves as a national voice on contemporary issues of sorority life.

Snap Bid: A procedure used at the close of bid matching to help chapter reach quota before bid distribution Quota: The number of women that a chapter may extend a bid to during primary or informal recruitment.

Sisterhood

Texas State University Panhellenic has been serving our national philanthropy of Circle of Sisterhood since 2014. As a community, we have raised thousands of dollars to support the breaking of educational barriers for women through the Circle of Sisterhood.

PURPOSE For too many girls and women around the world, access to quality education is often limited. Two-thirds of all illiterate adults in the world are women, and not even seven percent of the world’s population has a college education. Education can equip all of us to challenge many of the global issues impacting women – poverty, oppression, misogyny, brutality. Ultimately, more and more educated girls will mean stronger and healthier villages, communities, and entire countries. And education will eradicate poverty.

Quality schooling can serve as an emancipator from poverty and lead to a better life for a woman and her family. The Circle of Sisterhood exists today to help make that better life possible by removing barriers to education and creating sustainable change for girls and women around the globe ABOUT Collectively, sorority women are one of the largest communities of college-educated women in the world while not even seven percent of the world’s population – men and women combined – have college degrees, and two-thirds of all illiterate adults are women. Standing together as one community, we are creating sustainable change by removing barriers for girls and women to have an equal chance for rewarding lives and livelihoods through schooling, the learning of a trade, or even certifications or degrees.

As the world is changing and boundaries are disintegrating, technology allows us to live in a global neighborhood. Today’s sorority women understand and appreciate others on a global scale, realizing they have the collective influence to make a difference for those experiencing marginalization and oppression both domestically and globally. As college-educated women, we know the value of achieving an education, and we believe that every girl in the world deserves the opportunity to go to school.
