AglanceoverIndia’sjourneyinthelastdecade, showshowIndiahasgradually developed and changed, not just in terms of population or economy, but also on the political front. Indian governance observed an evident change. It was not because our so called democratically elected representatives realized their duties, but because people started understanding politics. They became cognizant of their rights and responsibilities. It was no longer easy to manipulate the once gullible common man. The best example would be the recent Delhi elections. A one year old Aam Aadhmi Party that selected its contestants from the common people made a phenomenal debut, routing political giants. This made it very clear that change in political scenario is imminent. On the same lines even the student community has started nurturing a vision which doesn’t accept tainted politics or politicians. We, the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) Student Chapter of GITAM University, have thought of bringing an opportunity to this burgeoning student fraternity to bring their ideas to the table. We believe that students across the Indian panorama are fraught with fresh perspective and lots of cached energy which when given a direction can unfold new vistas in future. We are organizing a national event GITAM Model United Nations (GITAM MUN) in collaboration with United Nations Information Center for India and Bhutan on 23rd and 24th December 2013. “GITAM MUN” is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. It’s a platform which would bring together students from different colleges to deliberate on diplomatic issues and come up with ideas which are not only innovative but practical solutions. They get to taste the experience of being a “real diplomat”. This event gives students an opportunity to develop the perspicacity to become a good diplomat. The student delegates would be awarded “Best Position Paper, Best Delegate and Outstanding Delegate”.

Come…P articipate… Grab the opportunity to be an Ambassador. Explore the diplomat in you. For details log on to www.istegmun.org

GITAM Excellence Meet ~Randy Phantom(don't put my name) The “GITAM Excellence Meet”, popularly denoted as “GEM” is an annual event conducted by GITAM Institute of Management (GIM). This year, GEM 2013, received acclaimed success, probably the biggest GIM event in history. There were more than 3400 registrations, ranging from high school students all the way to post graduates. There was a Food Adda consisting of more than 20stalls.Thereweremorethan10stallsfeaturingfashion and related accessories. Getting the statistics out of the way, let's move on to something more exciting! First off, the publicity done by the organizers of GEM was done magnificently. We got a glimpse at what we could expect at the fest even before it even started with all of those flash mobs. There were 3 flashmobsthattookplace:oneinCMR,oneonBeachRoad, in front of YMCA, and one within the GITAM Campus itself. The one inside GITAM took place in front of the popular hangout, Tibb's Frankie. However, setting up the speakers took a while, which gave away the fact that people were going to break out in a dance. This resulted in taking away the “flash” from the “flash mob”. Hence, it was basically just a “mob”. Howerver, overall the publicity team did a great job. Almost, all of Vizag knew of the fest taking place in GITAM. Couldn't expect anything less from management students.

Therewasanunexpectedlylessamountofeventsthattookplace. “I was hoping for more events. The ones they organized were fine but, you know, I mean, it's a fest. I expected more,” said Kalyani, a student from ANITS, Vizag. Srikanth, a student of Gayatri Institute ofTechnologysaid,“Offalltheeventsconducted, therewereonly fourwhichwerespotevents.Imean,Ijustfoundoutthattherewas afeasttakingplaceyesterday.Iwould'velikedtoseemoreevents inwhichIcouldparticipate.Buteverythingelseisgoinggreat! The food is awesome!” Chief guests included Takkuro Tagata; the stars behind the viral video, The Viva, Harsha and Sabreesh and the pop icon - Anjana Sowmya. Harsha graced the stage during the cultural night and managed to do a ramp walk in his humorous persona. Once as a manly character and once in his comical feminine impersonation. “Anjana Sowmya was amazing! She was very majestic. She definitely replaced Kristen Stewart as my celebrity crush. I loved her!” said an ecstatic fan Om Bhallamudi. Let's take a moment to marvel at the miracles pulled of by the GIM students. They have managed to wrap in big names such as Kalanjali, 93.5 Red FM, CIMA, Red Magazine among others as sponsors for the meet. They were supported by their faculty, K. Sivarama Kirishna (Principal) and Manjushri Naidu (Student Coordinator). Keep in mind however that the organizing committee consisted almost entirely of students. Now coming to the main part of the entire meet. Cultural Night. Here's what the attendees felt about the cultural night: “The stage was killer! The colors and lighting was totally new, at least, in GITAM fests,” said Vishnuvardhan, a student of GIT.

“Everything was great but the fashion show was kind of dreary. I could have done without that. The award ceremonywasalsoabigdrag.Icameforsheeraudacity, not monotonicity!” said Rammohan, a student of Gitam University. “The performances were nice. The only thing is, being in the college for the past four years, I've already seen these peopleperformonvariousotheroccasions.Notthatnew.I still enjoyed it though. I also noticed that some organizers were really confused. I wasn't sure if that was really intended or they were just not harmonized,” said Rakesh. The event was followed by a success meet. A video which included the coverage of the meet by G-Studio was unraveled. The video, edited by Revanth, and captured by G-Studio photographers including Siddharth Ram, Mourya Vijay and Pinak, was applauded and received praises.

Way to go GIM

Namaskar, your friend, Soc is back after a strenuous Bermuda exploration in the previous month in its subtle weather. Now, I would like to taste the glory of my motherland. So, I have decided to confine myself to India. India always shows her versatility in every aspect ranging from Philosophy to Physical Sciences, so does in the case of engineering. Dwaraka's engineering is considered to be one of the best of all the times. But, did Dwaraka (the city of many doors) ever exist? Or, was it a myth? I have come over here to prove the existence of Dwaraka and reinstall the faith on the ancient epic, Mahabharata, in a swift scientific way. Well, even before 1980's there were people who profoundly believed that Dwaraka was a fictional city and it was an output of sage Vyasa's imagination. But due to the advancements in the field of science and technology like seismographic techniques and thermo luminescence dating methods and continuous efforts by a great marine archaeologist, Dr.S .R Rao and his team for 8 years, Dwaraka was rediscovered. It was sleeping on the soft bed of Arabian Sea enjoying the miniature oceanic currents. When we flip back into the historical aspects regarding Dwaraka and its origin, we will be awestruck by its majestic structure. The story behind piling up of Dwaraka dates back to as old as Dwapara Yuga.

ThisisanimpressionfromDwaparaYugawhereinShriKrishna,LordNarayanahimself, killed the demon Kamsa, his maternal uncle and made Ugrasena, his maternal grandfather, the king of Mathura. Enraged by this, Kamsa's father-in law, Jarasandha (the king of Magadha) together with his friend Kalayavana attacked Mathura 17 times. Forthesafetyofthepeople,KrishnaalongwiththeYadavasdecidedtomovethecapital from Mathura to Dwaraka. Just that Krishna had shifted from Mathura do not assume that Krishna was inefficient to protect his own men; it was his benevolence to give his people a better place and a well-planned city with utmost facilities which they had e never enjoyed. Shri Krishna and the Yadavas left Mathura and arrived at the coast of Saurashtra.

They decided to build their capital in the coastal region and invoked Visvakarma, the deity of construction. However, Visvakarma said that the task could be completed only e if Samudradeva, the lord of the sea, provided some land. Shri Krishna worshipped ?Samudradeva,whowaspleasedandgavethemlandmeasuring12yojanas(1yojana=8 d miles) and henceforth, Visvakarma built Dwaraka, a city in gold. Kushasthali puri was situated on the western coast where river Gomati met the ocean. Dwaraka was located exactly at this estuary. It was galvanised by the majestic presence of Lord Krishna. Dwaraka was a graceful place to live in with beautiful gardens, well organised roads, highly furnished walls and magnificently built up structures which portrayed the elegancy of the then engineering techniques. The citizens even had an identity card with three lion heads engraved on it. In a nut shell, it was a place where everything from bread to bed was extravagant and lavish. Everythingwasgoingtillthen.Yadavascouldnotrealizethattheirfatewouldbesealed over.Theirchapterwasgettingtobeclosed.Forthisbeingexecutedpromptly,Yadavas along with Balarama and Krishna moved to Prabhasa. They bathed there, indulged in a war which was sparked by Vaasudeva.

Pradhyumna, Samba, Kritavarman, Satyaki, Aniruddha, Prithu, Viprithu, Charuvarman, Charuka, Akrura, and many others, struck one another with the clubs, which had assumed the hardness of thunderbolts. It soon turned into a huge battle and infuriated by the divine influence, everyone fell on the other with missile weapons. Shri Krishna started slicing off the heads with his discus. It soon became a dump yard of lashes. No Yadava was left over except Krishna, Balarama and Daruka (Krishna's charioteer). Everything was going according to their destiny and their past acts. Soon after that Balaramatooktheformofaserpentandcreptoffintothesea.ItwasSriKrishna'sturnto leave the human body and depart. Krishna sat engaged in thought, resting his foot upon his knee.

Then, there came a hunter, named Jara, whose arrow was tipped with a blade made of the piece of iron and beholding from a distance the foot of Krishna, he mistook it for part of a deer, and shooting his arrow, lodged it in the sole. Approaching his mark, he saw the four-armed king, and, falling at his feet, repeatedly besought his forgiveness, exclaiming, "I have done this deed unwittingly, thinking I was aiming at a deer! Please forgive me." Bhagavata replied, "Fear not my dear. Go, hunter, through my favour, to heaven, the abode of the gods." As soon as he had thus spoken, a celestial car appeared, and the hunter, ascending it, forthwith proceeded to heaven. Then the illustrious Krishna, having united himself with his own pure, spiritual, inexhaustible, inconceivable, unborn, undecaying, imperishable, and universal spirit, which is the one with Narayana, abandoned his mortal body and left off for Vaikunta. He had already instructed Arjuna about the inundation of Dwaraka. Arjuna along with the left over Yadavas of Dwaraka started to move in their boats from Dwaraka.

As soon as Krishna departed, the sea, which had been beating against the shores, suddenly broke the boundary that was imposed on it by nature. The sea rushed into the city. It coursed through the streets of the beautiful city covering up everything. Even as they were all looking, Arjuna saw the beautiful buildings becoming submerged one by one. Arjuna took a last look at the mansion of Krishna. It was soon covered by the sea. In a matter of a few moments it was all over. The sea had now become as placid as a lake. There was no trace of the beautiful city which had been the favourite haunt of all the Pandavas. Dwaraka was just a name; just a memory. Two things were worth noting down after my research,

1)Narayana is the supreme one of the entire universe and 2)Vaayu (the god of wind) is the best of all gods except for Lakshmi and e Brahma.

I was mesmerized by the essence of Mahabharata and would like to put a gem from it before you. I quote, !! adau rupacatustay覺m srjati yo devan puranukramat brahmandam puramabjajadivibudhan srstva haratyantatah e srasta purvavadasya sarvajagato matsyadirupairbhavan !! Essence: (The Lord who) assumed four forms before Creation (the forms of Aniruddha, Pradhyumna, Sankarshana and Vaasudeva) (The Lord who) creates all of the gods according to their respective natures; (The Lord who) creates the universe as the dwelling-place of the other gods such as Brahma; (The Lord who) annihilates creation again and again, then again creates and again sustains it, incarnating in various forms (such as Matsya, the fish) May this lord protect us. Remember, all the above mentioned points are absolutely scientifical and there is no space for scepticism. I will be pretty happy to see you soon with a more interesting topic next time, until then have a nice time.

GOD OF CRICKET ~Hemanth Vihari Amidst of some of ‘all time India’s greatest sportsmen’ like Dhyan Chand, Viswanathan Anand and Dhanraj Pillay, why was Sachin Tendulkar only awarded India’s most prestigious award- Bharatha Ratna? Does Sachin really deserve such an honour from the Indian Government? These are the questions that are being asked by many from the day our PM announced it. Without any surprise, the response was probably positive to the latter question. In fact, knowing Sachin and his contributions well, one just can’t say that he does not deserve the award. Not every cricketer who plays 200 test matches or scores hundred ‘hundreds’ would get such an honour. The only two reasons behind him getting the award are the motivation he gave for the upcoming cricketers and his punctuality. In a country like India, where people do not start any proceedings on time, Sachin was never late to the team meetings and practice sessions in the 24 years of his cricketing career.

Why is Sachin the ONLY GOD of cricket? Sometimes, sitting at work places- having a cup of coffee in the evening or before falling asleep, it suddenly hits- that a little man from India scored hundred ‘hundreds’ in his entire cricketing career. Forget about scoring them, we get tired even to count sixty-seventy numbers and this guy reached that magical figure hundred times, which is phenomenal (yet, we still have people criticizing him). The most important quality in his game is his ANTICIPATION. He reads the bowler’s mind so fast that he adjusts his position anddecideshisshotevenbeforetheballispitched.Heusedtobetheonlyhope for Indian cricket fans. The very popular notion says it all “once Sachin is out…therestoftheIndianbattinglineupwillfalllikeapackofcards”.Another interesting feature of his play is that he would shatter the game plan of the opposition with his play. He played during the era of some of all the time fast bowlers like Wasim Akram, Glenn Mcgrath, Malcolm Marshal and some other mightyWestIndianpacebowlers.Themainjobofthefastbowlersisnottoget wickets but to create fear and pressure on the batsmen with their pace. And Sachin would drive the ball back past them for a boundary. This is a kind of insult for the fast bowler and an inspiration for the batsman at the other end

Bowlers would some time say in a post match meet that they bowl to Sachin not to get his wicket but to impress him. Such is his greatness. The bat in his hand is a magic wand. Lessons that Sachin taught us: He is not only one of the best cricketers but also a great personality with humility. He was never into any kind of controversy in his entire career. He never spoke badly or passed comments on his team mates or opponents. He always respected the decision of the umpire, even though they were proven to be wrong on 71 occasions. His bat would always talk and that would be the only answer to all his critics. One awesome line that Sachin quoted was “Whenever people throw stones at you, convert them into milestones”. He showed “what PASSION is, what DEDICATION is and what chasing your dreams is” to the world. He was a man who turned into a God and that is what Indian philosophy is about. Moreover he considered playing cricket as serving his nation. That is why he is a true Indian. Tribute to the God: Thank you Sachin for the memories and motivation you have given us over the years. You madeourchildhoodmemorable.Watchingyouplay cricket is one of the biggest luxuries in our life.

Dear Sachin, You made the game popular. You are a true ambassador. d.You have set a trend. Your greatness has no end. You are truly a legend.

How safe are the student hostels in Engineering Colleges? It depends on what you value. If you leave your room unlocked, you might come back and find: 1) Your beloved roomie playing FIFA on your laptop or Temple Run on your tab. 2) Your toothpaste and hand wash have gone amiss. 3) Your headphones and controller are missing and shouts emanating from the next room, "Mar mar saale ko. Aaj to injure kar ke rahenge." 4) Your water bottle, which you had painstakingly filled before going to class, is empty. 5) The snacks, which your mother had sent with her love, have vanished and there are incriminating crumbs all over your neatly made up bed. 6) Your books lying on your table as you had kept them (unless end-sems are approaching) P.S. It's highly ironic that I am posting this from my friend's laptop, while he is taking a shower. So unless you are highly possessive about your stuff, I guess it won't be much of a problem if you don't lock your door. ~SHYAM TENALI

Feminism is a tricky word. And from men alone, who might throw open t what I, as a woman first and a feminist baseless argument of being terme later, have observed, is that most don’t effeminate by defending the rights even know what it really means. They women, but women themselves who aren’t aware of its complexity, its prefer shying away from being labe various, often contradicting school of as a ‘feminist’. The problem lies in t thoughts before they either use it or perspective. Being called a feminist call themselves ‘feminists’. But, that almost seen as being a rebel withou itself is so rare that I’d rather cause. Perhaps this is a consequen acknowledge its presence than of the entire movement of feminism question its authenticity. More often ,that began as early as the eightee than not, there is an undeniable level of century, now reduced to a state of hesitation, maybe even fear to accept dormancy and superficiality. Today that one is a feminist. During a Women’s Day is ‘celebrated’ by invi discussion on women’s liberation and a few socialites and Bollywood diva the empowerment of womanhood on “panel” to discuss what have we the ‘occasion’ of International achieved over the years, in terms o Women’s Day last year, I heard some women’s liberation and what still ne very valid arguments and points being to be done. These women tell us ho made by my classmates. However, scary and dangerous they still feel every statement began with the 21st Century India, to go out late nig following clarification: “I’m not a clubbing. What about the million oth feminist but I feel…” or “I’m no feminist women who feel insecure 24*7 and or believer of feminism but one needs not even have the promise of econ to look at…” Try as I might, I couldn’t affluence?
