Tips for Building Your Platform

It doesn’t matter what your business/ministry that you’re in, these tools are absolutely imperative to your success in building a global platform. You can build a global platform from your home. You can be connected with people all over the world, just with your computer and an internet connection. These tools can be automated and scheduled out in bulk. Here are some best practices for using tools to build your online platform.      

Share valuable content. Share content that your target market would be interested in, even if it is not your own content. Be discerning on what you provide for free and what you charge for. Separate your Facebook business page from your personal Facebook page. Post on social media three times per day, in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Share your most important content between the hours of 2pm – 6pm. It takes 7 times for a person to be exposed to your message before they consider buying or following your message. You can have an audio, video, or written blog. Blog twice per week on Monday and Thursday. Send your newsletter preferably once per week and share different content from what you share on your blog. Go to where your target customers are and provide value information to them by sharing your expertise: other blogs, forums, Facebook and LinkedIn groups, etc.

There are many ways now to access extra money for your business without a bank and without high interest rates. You can now fund your business with grants, crowdfunding, business credit and peerto-peer lending. Grants and crowdfunding offer money you can raise for your business that you don’t have to pay back or give up a percentage of ownership in your business. Even some of your banks, such as Chase, offer grant programs for businesses. Business credit and peer-to-peer lending is money that you do have to pay back but usually at a rate lower than what banks offer. What is Business Credit? Business credit is similar to personal credit. It is a way for others to determine how likely you are to pay loans and bills. While personal credit is important for small businesses, you should try to establish business credit as well. The idea behind business credit is that lenders, suppliers, and partners don’t know whether or not you’re likely to pay them. Looking at your business credit helps them decide if they should take a risk on you. With strong business credit, you borrow at lower costs, and you may get more favorable terms from suppliers. You may also be able to get loans without a personal guarantee. You build business credit just like you build personal credit: use credit responsibly. Borrow money and repay as agreed. As each year passes, you build business credit that makes others more and more comfortable to work with you. Credit Reporting

When you build business credit, you need to make sure your activity is reported to business credit reporting companies. You may want to register with and verify information at the following companies as you build business credit:  

Dun and Bradstreet Experian Small Business

To build business credit, you need to act like a legitimate business. Make sure you meet state, federal, and industry requirements for conducting business. You’ll want to build business credit under a Tax Identification Number - not your personal SSN. Incorporating can help limit personal risk, and it helps you build business credit. If you are not familiar with these concepts, work with an attorney and tax advisor to understand which business entities may be appropriate for you. You should also call your State government to seek advice from your taxes and assessment office.

Your Personal Credit When starting out, you’ll probably have to use your personal credit to get a loan. As you build business credit you can use your personal credit less and less. Try to open new accounts without personally guaranteeing loans or by pledging collateral. What are the advantages of Peer-to-Peer Lending? Most peer-to-peer loans are unsecured personal loans. They are made to an individual rather than a company, and the borrowers do not provide collateral as a protection to the lender against default. Business loans, including secured loans, are offered by some companies. The interest rates are set by lenders who compete for the lowest rate on the reverse auction model, or are fixed by the intermediary company on the basis of an analysis of the borrower's credit. Borrowers assessed as having a higher risk of default are assigned higher rates. Lenders mitigate the risk that borrowers will not pay back the money they received by choosing which borrowers to whom to lend, and by diversifying their investments among different borrowers. The lender's investment in the loan is not protected by any government guarantee. Bankruptcy of the peer-to-peer lending company that facilitated the loan may also put a lender's investment at risk. The lending intermediaries are for-profit businesses; they generate revenue by collecting a one-time fee on funded loans from borrowers and by assessing a loan servicing fee to investors (either a fixed amount annually or a percentage of the loan amount). Because many of the services are automated, the intermediary companies can operate with lower overhead and can provide the service more cheaply than traditional financial institutions, so that borrowers may be able to borrow money at lower interest rates and lenders may be able to earn higher returns. Compared to stock markets, peer-to-peer lending tends to have both less volatility and less liquidity. The key characteristics of peer-to-peer lending are:       

it is conducted for profit; no necessary common bond or prior relationship between lenders and borrowers; intermediation by a peer-to-peer lending company; transactions take place on-line; lenders may choose which borrowers to invest in; the loans are unsecured and not are protected by government insurance; loans are securities that can be sold to other lenders.

Most peer-to-peer intermediaries provide the following services:  

on-line investment platform to enable borrowers to attract lenders and investors to identify and purchase loans that meet their investment criteria development of credit models for loan approvals and pricing

     

verifying borrower identity, bank account, employment and income performing borrower credit checks and filtering out the unqualified processing payments from borrowers and forwarding those payments to the lenders who invested in the loan servicing loans, providing customer service to borrowers and attempting to collect payments from borrowers who are delinquent or in default legal compliance and reporting finding new lenders and borrowers (marketing)

What is Crowdfunding? Crowdfunding was also known as crowd financing, equity crowdfunding, crowd equity, crowdsourced fundraising. It is the collective effort of individuals who network and pool their money, usually via the Internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations. Crowdfunding is used in support of a wide variety of activities, including disaster relief, citizen journalism, support of artists by fans, political campaigns and startup company funding. Crowdfunding models involve a variety of participants. They include the people or organizations that propose the ideas and/or projects to be funded, and the crowd of people who support the proposals. Crowdfunding is then supported by an organization (the "platform") which brings together the project initiator and the crowd. What is Capacity Building? To stay competitive today’s nonprofits must be able to adapt to an ever-changing environment. No matter how large or small its organization is. The nonprofit must prepare for and manage change. Capacity building is the ability to expand the works that an organization is already doing. Capacity building should consist of three critical parts in which an organization learns to identify critical issues, is able to differentiate between core problems and systems, and can implement steps to resolve these issues within the organization’s core values and key operating principles. With knowledge, tools, and a realistic plan comes greater organizational effectiveness.
