Estamos en pleno proceso de festivales. Las artes escénicas de sabor más tradicional se mezclan, con gusto, con los nuevos conceptos que día tras día sacuden la agenda cultural, todo se agita bien, le añadimos una buena imagen, un gran cartel y zas: El Festival del año.

Festival season is in full swing, with the most traditional performing arts tastefully mixed with new concepts spicing up the cultural agenda day after day. Everything is stirred up well, we add a dash of image, a great line-up and voilá: The Festival of the Year.

Por eso esta época nos encanta, porque tan pronto podemos estar atónitos en un patio de butacas recordando a los Clásicos del Siglo de Oro, como vemos nuestros pies moverse al ritmo de los últimos ritmos que señala el dubstep.

We love this time of year, because only during it can we be taking in a classic work of theatre from the Golden Age, or moving and shaking to the beat of the latest dubstep rhythms.

A medio camino entre esos extremos tenemos el gustazo de encontrarnos con La Mar de Músicas. Un año más el festival cartagenero sorprende con un cartel repleto de nombres que en si mismo es un espectáculo. Suecia es el país invitado este año. La vigésimo segunda edición es cita obligada en el mes de julio. Y nuestra portada durante todo el mes.

Halfway between these extremes we have the great pleasure of finding the La Mar de Músicas Festival. For yet another year the Cartagena event will unveil a lineup of stars that is a spectacle in itself, and lists Sweden as its guest country this year. The 22nd edition is a must-attend in July and graces our cover this month.

Entre el 1 de junio y el 28 de agosto de 2016, PHotoEspaña celebra su XIX edición, con un total de 94 exposiciones que incluyen obras de 330 autores y 16 programas de actividades. Todo ello, distribuido entre 52 sedes nacionales e internacionales. Entre las numerosas muestras previstas, destacan una monográfica de Bernard Plossu, Premio PHotoEspaña 2013, otra de Linarejos Moreno y las colectivas ‘Transiciones’, con imágenes de las tensiones ocurridas entre 1979 y 1989. I FESTIVAL TEATRO PARA BEBÉS: “CHUPETES” La sala Tarambana presenta esta iniciativa que pretende fomentar las artes en los primeros años de vida de los niños. La idea es combinar los distintos lenguajes artísticos en propuestas sencillas y lúdicas, que proponen una primera experiencia de acercamiento al teatro para bebés y niños y niñas de 0 a 5 años. Una experiencia única, donde los más pequeños podrán accionar, reaccionar e interaccionar desde su llegada hasta su salida con su familia, con otros bebés y con el entorno. Las obras tendrán una duración de unos 30 o 40 minutos como máximo y mediante formas, colores, olores, sonidos o movimientos crearán atmósferas con un toque mágico, inesperado y tierno. Si algo enseña el teatro para bebés es que no solo de palabras se alimentan los humanos, en especial los más pequeños. Texturas de la Cía. Ñas Teatro abrirá el festival el 2 y 3 Julio. Después será el turno de Calcetines de la Cía. Teatrocom.com el 9 y 10 Julio y Pinxil de la Cía. Baychimo el 16 y 17 Julio. Cerrará la cita Dulce de leche de la Cía. Miriñaque el 23 y 24 Julio.

The Tarambana Theatre presents this initiative to promote the arts during the early years of children's lives. The idea is to combine different artistic approaches in simple and entertaining works to provide babies and children ages 0 to 5 with an initial exposure to the theatre. A unique experience in which children will be able, from their arrival to their departure with their families, to react to and interact with other children and their surroundings. The works will last for a maximum of 30 to 40 minutes, and use shapes, colours, smells, sounds and movement to create atmospheres with a magical, unexpected and tender touch. If theatre for babies teaches us something, it is that we do not live off words alone, this being especially true of children. "Texturas," by the Co. Ñas Teatro will open the festival, on 2-3 July. Then it will be time for "Calcetines," by the Co. Teatrocom.com on the 9th and 10th, and “Pinxil,” by the Co. Baychimo on the 16th and 17th. The last show will be "Dulce de leche," by the Co. Miriñaque on the 23rd and 24th.

Si hay un festival europeo de músicas del mundo que destaque por su trayectoria, calidad musical y apuesta por el arte en todas sus expresiones, ese es La Mar de Músicas. Su 22ª edición, que se celebra del 15 al 23 de julio en la ciudad de Cartagena, contará con Suecia como país invitado y por tanto con una selección de sus artistas de lo más destacada: Bob Hund, Kolonien, Anna Von Hausswolff, Räfven, Tingvall Trio, Hoffmaestro, Club 8, Jay Jay, Johanson o Anna Ternheim son solo algunos de ellos. Aunque también compartirán protagonismo con artistas nacionales e internacionales vínculados al festival como Julian Marley & Upresing, Cheikh Lô que este año se lleva el premio del festival a toda su trayectoria, Omara Portuando & Diego el Cigala, Earth Wind & Fire Experience, Mariza, Tindersticks, Damien Jurado, Emir Kusturica, Chambao, entre otros muchos.

Como en años anteriores las actividades paralelas giran en torno a los países invitados abarcando todos los aspectos de la cultura sueca. Así en La Mar de Arte se podrá disfrutar de fotografías, pinturas, arte urbano o videos performance. En la Mar de Letras se pretende dar a conocer los valores literarios que destacan del país invitado y ofrecer otra visión artística del mismo. No podemos olvidar La Mar de Cine otro espacio en las que se mostrarán las últimas producciones de jóvenes realizadores suecos que están circulando por los mejores festivales de Europa, así como recordar los grandes directores que han marcado la trayectoria del cine sueco.

As in previous years, a set of parallel activities will revolve around the invited country, covering every aspect of Swedish culture. At La Mar de Arte one will be able to enjoy photographs, paintings, street art and performance videos. La Mar de Letras, meanwhile, aims to showcase literary talents from the guest country and to offer a different kind of artistic perspective on it. And we cannot overlook La Mar de Cine, a programme scheduled to feature the latest productions by young Swedish filmmakers, in circulation at the top European festivals, and to remember the great directors who shaped the history of Swedish cinema.

Por último, el festival no podía olvidar dentro de sus actividades paralelas La Mar Chica, una batería de actividades que mezclan temáticas destinadas a los más pequeños y que en esta edición podrán disfrutar del Taller la Mar de letra chica, Sin hacerse el sueco, en el que se hará uso de la creatividad a través de la ilustración y el lenguaje. Igualmente, se llevará a cabo un taller de repostería sueca, Sweet Suecia. ¿Qué más se le puede pedir a un festival?

Finally, the festival could not forget La Mar Chica, a series of activities mixing themes aimed at children, who this year will be able to enjoy the Sin hacerse el sueco (Without playing the Swede) workshop, in which they will exercise their creativity through illustrations and language. There will also be a workshop on Swedish pastries: Sweet Sweden. What more can you ask for in a festival?

Su música nace del mbalax senegalés, rumba congoleña, jazz, folk… y eso entre muchos otros ritmos. ¿Busca con ello crear un estilo único o le gusta hacer combinaciones siempre diferentes y originales entre ellas? Mbalax es en efecto el resultado de una combinación de ritmos provenientes de diferentes estilos musicales que eclosionaron en los años 70 en África y en Senegal. Rumba congoleña, ritmos tradicionales, percusión sabar, tama, y luego todo lo que venía de Latinoamérica y el son cubano. Todo son influencias. El Mbalax está en la raíz.

Your music stems from the Senegalese Mbalax, Congolese rumba, jazz, folk ... among many other rhythms. Do you seek, in this way, to create a unique style, or do you like to always come up with different and original combinations between them? Mbalax is, indeed, the result of a combination of rhythms from different musical styles that converged in the 70s in Africa, including Senegal. Congolese rumba, traditional rhythms, sabar percussion, tama, and then everything coming from Latin America and Cuba's son. They are all influences. The Mbalax is at the root of it.

Una de las canciones más escuchadas de sus últimos trabajos es “Gemou Ma Ko”. ¿Tiene especial cariño a alguna melodía en particular? Empezó siendo una melodía pequeña y además recuerdo que la compuse en inglés. Es una canción de amor que me recordaba a una balada pop, por eso al principio la cantaba en inglés. Después la quise traer a más cerca, a mi vida y rápidamente surgió una historia paralela que me obligó a interpretarla en wolof e introducir instrumentos tan africanos y melódicos como la kora. Hablar de Cheikh Lô significa, para muchos, hablar de fuerza, alegría y pasión. ¿Es esa idea precisamente la que pretende transmitir a través de sus canciones? Yo siempre he sido una persona apasionada. Me gusta pensar que mi voz y mi música es capaz de imprimir energía positiva y no lo contrario. Ya es un mundo con muchas complicaciones como para añadir más pesimismo. Hablo de los problemas, de los que hay en África y en el mundo, pero creo que hay que encararlos con fuerza, alegría y una mirada positiva. Pero jamás la violencia por la violencia. Desde hace tiempo el éxito de sus trabajos en territorio español es innegable. ¿Cómo se siente cuando toca en España? Me encanta actuar en España. Hay algo especial en el público. Es el más parecido al publico africano: caluroso, afectuoso… Especialmente Murcia y el festival La Mar de Músicas de Cartagena donde tendré el honor de actuar este verano. Es uno de los festivales más especiales en los que he estado. Todas las veces que venimos a Europa hay algún concierto en España, si no es como si faltara algo.

One of the most popular songs off your latest album is Gemou Ma Ko. Do you have a special affection for one melody in particular? It started out as a little melody, and I also remember that I wrote it in English. It’s a love song that reminded me of a pop ballad, so at first I sang it in English. Then I wanted to bring it closer to my life, and quickly there emerged a parallel story that forced me to sing it in Wolof and introduce typically African and melodic instruments like the kora. For many Cheikh Lo represents strength, joy and passion. Are those precisely the ideas you seek to convey through your songs? I've always been a passionate person. CLÁSICOS EN ALCALÁ *el teatro de siempre al alcance de todos Aunque ya llevan unos días en Alcalá de Henares, los clásicos de Shakespeare y Cervantes siguen levantando pasiones encima de las tablas. FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE JAZZ DE GETXO *artistas consagrados y nuevas generaciones del jazz Getxo Jazz cumple 40 años de andadura y nuevamente abre con una propuesta en la que tienen cabida tanto artistas consagrados como nuevas generaciones. En los conciertos estelares, el célebre flautista y saxofonista Jorge Pardo, nos acerca a una exquisita propuesta de flamenco-jazz. Uri Caine, uno de los pianistas más relevantes de la escena musical visita la ciudad con su trío. En el ecuador llega Hermeto Pascoal, uno de los grandes artífices de la fusión de la música tradicional brasileña con el jazz y otros sonidos. Por segunda vez en su historia Dee Dee Bridgewater visita el festival, una voz de referencia en la escena internacional que aborda con exquisitez el repertorio de standards, aunque arriesgando constantemente en la improvisación interpretativa. En la última jornada, la contrabajista Esperanza Spalding, una de las figuras con mayor proyección del panorama actual, presenta "Emily's D+Evolution”. Y además, al programa hay que añadir las actuaciones Concurso de Grupos, los conciertos de la sección Tercer Milenio y las Jam Sessions que tendrán lugar durante tres jornadas en The Piper's Irish Pub de la mano de la banda In Sesion, los dos conciertos para público familiar (novedad este año) y la exposición de mosaicos del artista vizcaíno Javier de la Torre.

Getxo Jazz marks its 40th anniversary and kicks off again with a line-up making room for both wellknown artists and rising stars. Highlights will include the famous flautist and saxophonist Jorge Pardo, with an outstanding flamenco/jazz show. 62º CERTAMEN INTERNACIONAL DE HABANERAS Y POLIFONÍA DE TORREVIEJA *vuelta coral al mundo en siete días Dieciséis coros son los que participarán en el 62º Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonía de Torrevieja, que tendrá lugar del 18 al 24 de julio. La mezcla internacional se compone esta vez de 11 coros europeos (de ellos 5 son españoles), 4 americanos y uno asiático. Todas estas agrupaciones deben interpretar obligatoriamente en el certamen la habanera “A mi Añoransa” de José Cerdán Sempere y Francisco Vallejos Albentosa. Una novedad este año es el hecho de que las actuaciones de habaneras y polifonía se separan para dar la oportunidad a las corales a que cambien de vestuario, y así poder lucir mejor en el apartado de folklore polifónico de su lugar de origen. Las corales participantes en la 62ª edición del Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonía de Torrevieja van desde Argentina, Venezuela, Cuba y Puerto Rico, pasando por Portugal, Ucrania, Letonia, Polonia o Moldavia y llegando a la misma Indonesia. Sixteen choirs will participate in the 62nd International Habaneras and Polyphony Festival in Torrevieja, to take place from 18 to 24 July. This time the international competition consists of 11 European choirs (5 of them Spanish), 4 American, and one Asian. El objetivo principal del proyecto es formar y preparar a cualquier persona para encontrar su camino y su hueco en el mercado laboral y ayudar y orientar a la hora de elegir formación y carrera universitaria. Almudena, la pequeña de las dos hermanas hace especial hincapié en que no son recluters, es decir, no son una agencia de colocación, sin embargo colaboran con varias empresas para cubrir puestos de trabajo con sus clientes. Pero esto es solo un valor añadido a formar, informar y orientar para que cada uno

The venture’s main objective is to orient, advise, educate and prepare anyone to find their way and place in the job market. Almudena, the younger of the two sisters, stresses that they are not recruiters; that is, their role is not really to find work for anyone (although they try, and have agreements with several companies, but this is only an added value) but rather to counsel and guide their clients so that they can find and land the position best suited to their needs. Zamora está considerada como el núcleo urbano con mayor concentración de arte románico de Europa. Su catedral, construida en la segunda mitad del siglo XII, y en la que destaca el cimborrio con una espectacular cúpula gallonada, una de las estructuras más importantes del arte medieval es solo uno de sus bienes más destacados. Junto a ella, el complejo del castillo (S.XI) y las murallas, donde se aprecian puertas afamadas como la de La Lealtad, la del Obispo o la de Doña Urraca, nombres que remite a episodios históricos del pasado de la ciudad. Por eso Zamora es la ciudad del románico, pero lo es también del modernismo y, en el mismo corazón del casco histórico, conserva una veintena de edificios

En el laberinto de piedra (así se llaman las calles) se distribuyen los museos que permiten conocer la ciudad de una manera diferente: el del escultor Baltasar Lobo, el museo de Semana Santa, el Etnográfico, el Diocesano, el Catedralicio y el Museo de Zamora. Junto a ellos, y para comprender la esencia misma de la ciudad, se puede visitar el Centro de Interpretación de las Ciudades Medievales. Un viaje en el tiempo que no te puedes perder. Zamora is considered the urban centre with the highest concentration of Romanesque art in all of Europe. Its cathedral, built in the second half of the 12th

century, featuring a cimborio with a spectacular ribbed dome, one of the most important structures in medieval art, is just one of its most prominent treasures. This is why Zamora is a Romanesque city, but also a Modernist one; in the heart of its historic centre it boasts 20 buildings included on the European Modernism Route. In its “labyrinth of stone” (as its streets are known) one finds a series of museums allowing visitors to appreciate the city in a different way: that of sculptor Baltasar Lobo, the Holy Week Museum, the Ethno-

l segundo fin de semana de noviembre, Andorra, vuelve al siglo II a.c., y se convierte en un auténtico poblado íbero. La feria íbera se convierte en una puesta en valor de su patrimonio y de su historia. Ese fin de semana la población de Andorra, los ositanos, vuelven a vivir organizados en clanes, cada clan cuenta en su organización interna como : príncipe, sacerdotisa, sabio, guerreros, agricultores…. Cada clan está representado por un animal: ciervo, cabra, búho, buitre, caballo, jabalí, lince, lobo y toro, además de por una centuria romana, que representará la rivalidad de estos dos pueblos y su lucha por sobrevivir durante esa parte de la historia, entre todos forman una gran tribu que aglutina a unas 1500 personas que con sus vestimentas complementan la feria comercial.

During the second weekend of November Andorra recalls its second century BC roots by reenacting an authentic Iberian settlement. The Feria Íbera Lakuerter serves to celebrate and uphold local heritage and history. On that weekend the people of Andorra, the ositanos, once again live in clans, with everyone playing different roles: prince, priestess, wiseman, warrior, farmer .... Each clan is represented by an animal: deer, goat, owl, vulture, horse, wild boar, lynx, wolf and bull, and there is also a Roman centurion, representing the rivalry of these two peoples and their struggle to survive during that period of history. All together they form a large tribe consisting of some 1,500 people who, donning historical garb, round out the fair.

Paula Bressel Ilustradora Terminando mis estudios el London College of Fashion (Universidad de Artes de Londres), he colaborado con varias publicaciones y trabajo en multitud de proyectos que pueden variar desde murales, apuntes a acuarela y boli o caricaturas. Me gusta mezclar las técnicas tradicionales con las posibilidades de la tecnología y me motivan los proyectos que me supongan un reto y me hagan crecer. Creo en que la diferencia entre algo bueno o malo recae en los pequeños detalles. Amane de la belleza en cualquier forma y extremadamente sensible, me gusta más observar que ser observada. Disfruto de la naturaleza y el olor del bosque. Tengo un gato pero si pudiese tendría un zoo. Renovarse o morir pero sin perder la esencia.
