El inicio de la primavera está cerca. Con los primeros rayos de sol dejamos el abrigo en el armario y nos lanzamos a las calles de Madrid, una buena opción es pedir un taxi solo de ida con destino a la Plaza Mayor para celebrar su cuarto centenario. En sus cuatro siglos de historia, esta paradigmática construcción ha sabido disfrutar de sus mercados, sobreponerse a los fuegos y las guerras, convertirse en recinto para el ocio, teatro, música e incluso toros.
The start of spring is almost upon us, and with the early morning sun we leave the coat in the closet and venture out into the streets of Madrid. A good option is to take a taxi to the Plaza Mayor to celebrate the square’s 400th anniversary. Over its four-hundred-year history, this exemplary structure has been home to markets, survived fire and wars, been turned into a venue for leisure, theater, music and even bullfighting.

Pero no todo lo bueno está siempre tan lejos, la tradición madrileña comienza su ebullición en este mes, la cultura de la ciudad se pone su traje típico chulapo para recibir el festival del cocido madrileño durante el día y esperar impaciente el atardecer para visitar todo el arte de Madrid en la Noche de los Museos. Pero os ofrecemos más, mucho más. El ocio está ahora mismo en su mano. Que lo disfruten.
And good things aren’t always far away. The calendar of activities in Madrid goes into full swing this month as the city’s culture dons its typical chulapo attire to welcome the Cocido Madrileño festival by day, and impatiently waits for nightfall to visit all the art that Madrid has to offer with its Museum Night. La escena teatral madrileña vuelve a lucir sus mejores galas para celebrar una nueva edición de La Noche de los Teatros. En esta ocasión, el día elegido es el 25 de marzo y desde las seis de la tarde hay programada toda una agenda con actuaciones especiales, conferencias, lecturas dramatizadas y mucho más. Además, este año la temática de los espectáculos girará en torno a la mujer y a su destacado papel en el mundo de las artes escénicas. Madrid’s theater scene will put on its best shows again to celebrate a new edition of La Noche de los Teatros. This time, the date will be March 25 when, starting at 6 pm, there is a whole schedule of activities scheduled with special performances, conferences, dramatized readings and much more. La obra de Conner surge en la escena artística de California y aborda diversas cuestiones que preocupaban a la sociedad norteamericana de posguerra: desde la incipiente cultura del consumo al terror ante el apocalipsis nuclear. En su trabajo cultiva la alternancia de medios, convertida en la seña de identidad del arte del siglo XXI, adoptando diferentes técnicas y creando piezas que se encuentran a medio camino entre la pintura y la escultura, el cine y la performance, el dibujo y el grabado. Conner’s work comes to us from California’s arts scene and covers various topics that were of concern to America’s post-war society, from the nascent culture of consumerism to the terror of a nuclear apocalypse. His works alternates different formats and has become a hallmark of 21-st century art, adopting various techniques to create pieces that are somewhere between paintings and sculptures, cinema and performance, drawings and engravings. Mateo’s home becomes a board for a game of identities where present and past, need and desire, victims and aggressors, and dream and reality intertwine.

MAUI EN CONCIERTO La polifacética artista Maui, sobrina de Bambino, cantautora casi inclasificable, presenta un ciclo de cinco conciertos consecutivos para celebrar sus 14 años de carrera y en los que presentará temas inéditos de su próximo disco. Durante el ciclo estará acompañada de otros artistas y amigos como: Rosario, Martirio, Jorge Pardo, Carmen Paris, Fernando Tejero o el bailaor Nino de los Reyes entre otros. El ciclo ‘Soy una feria’ arranca el 24 de febrero y cada viernes será único. Cinco oportunidades únicas para disfrutar con el talento de esta artista amadrinada por Martirio que dice de ella: “Tiene mucha personalidad, es optimista, original, con mucho desparpajo y se nota esa vocación grande que tiene, que alimenta el futuro y vence los inconvenientes. The multi-faceted artist Maui, niece of Bambino, and a singer-songwriter who’s almost impossible to classify, presents a series of five backto-back concerts to celebrate her 14-year career, and which will feature brand new songs from her next album. Accompanying her on this concert series will be other artists and friends like Rosario, Martirio, Jorge Pardo, Carmen Paris, Fernando Tejero and the flamenco dancer Nino de los Reyes. The ‘Soy una feria’ series starts on February 24 and every Friday show will be unique. Five unique chances to enjoy the talent of this artist, whom Martirio took under his wing, saying: “She has a lot of personality, she’s optimistic, original, self-confident and you can sense a great vocation in her that feeds the future and overcomes obstacles. She’s unique at what she does and she keeps growing with every step she takes”. Un grupo de amigos tienen la curiosa tradición de organizar una cena cada miércoles con el único fin de competir entre ellos a ver quién lleva al invitado más idiota. Hasta que un día uno de ellos consigue al que según él es el idiota de todos los idiotas. Pero… ¿quién es el verdadero idiota?, ¿el invitado o el anfitrión? Una divertida crítica a una sociedad cuyos valores y comportamiento dejan realmente mucho que desear cuando la diversión viene de reírse de los demás. ESCHER *diferentes perspectivas Hasta el 25 de junio Madrid acoge la retrospectiva Escher, una de las exposiciones que ha tenido mejor acogida entre el público internacional con más de 700.000 visitantes hasta el momento. La muestra, que puede visitarse en el Palacio de Gaviria está compuesta de 200 obras del visionario holandés cuyas creaciones han marcado las mentes de los científicos y el imaginario de los diseñadores, además de haber ejercido una fuerte influencia en el mundo del arte. Algunas de las obras maestras de este genio del surrealismo son “Mano con esfera reflectante”, “Relatividad (o Casa de Escaleras)”, y “Belvedere”. Pero además, la exposición incluye experimentos científicos, áreas de juego y recursos educativos que contribuirán a que visitantes de todas las edades comprendan sus perspectivas imposibles, sus imágenes desconcertantes y los universos aparentemente irreconciliables que se unen en él para formar una única dimensión artística. Until June 25, Madrid is hosting a retrospective on Escher, one of the most popular exhibits among international crowds, drawing over 700,000 visitors to date. Declaradas Fiestas de Interés Turístico por la Generalitat Valenciana, las Fiestas del Medievo se realizan desde hace 16 años en Villena en honor a San José, si bien esta ciudad viene celebrando la festividad desde, al menos, 1622. En el Centro Histórico, declarado Bien de Interés Cultural, sus estrechas y sinuosas calles son engalanadas por los propios vecinos, que decoran sus casas y visten a la moda del Medievo. Recorrer las calles del Rabal durante las Fiestas del Medievo es encontrar músicos, malabares, cetrería, magos, arqueros, tragafuegos, maestros del ajedrez, y un sinfin de actividades gratuitas. Además, durante ese único fin de semana las parejas que lo desean pueden celebran su enlace en el Castillo de la Atalaya, una espectacular fortaleza del siglo XII, de una

forma muy diferente, pues novios, invitados e incluso el concejal que los casa visten a la época medieval. ¡Incluso los anillos son entregados por un halcón!. Otro de los momentos mágicos es la Procesión de las Antorchas, donde cientos de personas recorren de noche iluminados por el fuego las oscuras calles del barrio al ritmo del tambor, finalizando con un concierto de música celta junto a las murallas del Castillo. The narrow, winding streets of the Historic Center, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, are adorned by the locals themselves, who decorate their homes and don medieval attire. Walking through the streets of Rabal during the Medieval Fair means running into musicians, jugglers, falconers, magicians, archers, fire eaters, chess masters and an endless variety of free activities. Plus, couples who wish to do so can renew their vows on this unique weekend at the Atalaya Castle, a spectacular 12th-century fortress. This promises to be a different experience since the bride and groom, guests and even the councilman marrying them all wear medieval attire. And the rings are delivered by a falcon! Another magical moment is the Procession of Torches, in which hundreds of people
walk down the dark streets at night, lit only by the fire, to the beat of a drum, with the night concluding with a Celtic music concert by the castle wall. n la primavera de 1570, el municipio de Padules (Almería) fue escenario de uno de los hechos históricos más destacados de Las Alpujarras y de la historia del siglo XVI en España: las Paz entre el rey Felipe II y los moriscos alpujarreños. Aquella primavera, don Juan de Austria, en representación de su hermano don Felipe II, rey de las Españas, y el general Hernando El Habaquí, interlocutor de Muley Aben Aboo, rey de los moriscos, acordaron poner fin a la atroz guerra que causó tanto dolor en esta tierra. La recreación comienza con la llegada de las tropas de don Juan de Austria, el ejército morisco y el tren de bagajes, en las paradas del desfile se cuenta a los asistentes el hecho histórico que motiva la celebración del evento, se describen trajes y panoplias militares, se dan a conocer los personajes…. Desfile que finaliza en el campamento militar y civil montado para el evento y en el que se muestra la vida cotidiana de moriscos y cristianos del siglo XVI: cocina, forja, carpintería, sastrería, alardes militares…Que son explicados a los asistentes mediante visitas guiadas. Al final de la mañana se recrea una batalla de dos asaltos entre moriscos y cristianos. Al atardecer las tropas cristianas encabezadas por don Juan de Austria y sus generales y consejeros desfilan hasta la plaza de la iglesia donde se realiza el acto de reducción de los moriscos.
In the spring of 1570, the town of Padules (Almeria) was the setting for one of the most significant historical events in Las Alpujarras and in 16th-century Spain: the peace treaty between King Philip II and the Moors of Alpujarras. That spring, Don Juan de Austria, on behalf of his brother, Don Philip II, King of Spain, and General Hernando El Habaquí, representing MuleybadiaAbenAboo, the king of the Moors, agreed to put an end to the horrific war that was bringing so much pain to those lands. The recreation starts with the arrival of the troops of Don Juan the Austria, the Moorish army and the baggage train. The parade tells visitors of the history behind the celebration of the event, it describes the military uniforms and weaponry, and it introduces the characters involved. The parade ends at the military and civilian campsite set up for the event, and which shows the everyday life of 16th-century Moors and Christians: cooking, forging, carpentry, tailoring, military displays, and more. All of this is explained to visitors by way of guided tours. Late in the morning, a two-round battle between Moors and Christians is recreated. In the evening, the Christian troops, led by Don Juan de Austria and his generals and advisors, march to the church square, where the Moors are converted to Christianity.

La música es una de mis grandes fuentes de inspiración, siempre dibujo escuchando música y me gusta hacer pequeños homenajes a mis ídolos. En este caso he elegido a Amy Winehouse, la voz del siglo XXI. No hay ni habrá nadie como ella, tenía un carisma especial e irradiaba luz. Su música es un regalo para los sentidos.
