La capital reúne en el eje PradoRecoletos, conocido como Triángulo del Arte, dos de las exposiciones más relevantes del Pop Art a nivel europeo. En nuestra portada enseñamos el genial montaje que desde el MNCARS han preparado para la mayor antología jamás preparada de la obra de Richard Hamilton. Una exposición muy especial, con la recreación de alguno de los montajes que hizo el propio artista en su momento. Un auténtico must para este verano. Es época de vacaciones y de visitas de turistas. Nuestro número doble como siempre recorre los destinos favoritos del equipo y donde algunos irán a recargar pilas: Vitoria, Castro Urdiales, Guadarrama, Castelldefels, Callosa d`en Sarrià entre muchos otros. #MadridesPop. This is the slogan of one of the City of Madrid's most important campaigns this summer. At the Prado-Recoletos axis, known as the Art Triangle, the capital brings together two of the most important exhibitions of Pop Art in Europe. On our cover we feature the outstanding exhibition that MNCARS has prepared for the greatest anthological review ever of the work of artist Richard Hamilton. A very special exhibition, one which recreates some of the installation works the artist put together years ago. A real must-see this summer. It is time for vacations and arrival of tourists. Our double issue, as always, spans the team's favorite destinations, where some will go to recharge their batteries: Vitoria, Castro Urdiales, Guadarrama, Castelldefels, Callosa d'en Sarria, among many others. Madrid is full of options, especially thanks to the programming of Veranos de la Villa, which for two months will dominate much of the city's cultural offering. El IV Centenario del fallecimiento del Greco sigue siendo la perfecta excusa para repasar la obra del artista. Esra vez en Madrid, bajo las paredes del Museo del Prado se aborda de modo integral la influencia de la pintura del Greco en el desarrollo de posteriores corrientes y movimientos artísticos. La muestra cuenta con veintiséis obras del artista cretense y más de cincuenta con la firma de Manet, Cézanne, Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani, Kokoschka, Pollock y Saura, entre otros destacados artistas. La muestra no hubiera sido posible sin los prestamos de las más de setenta instituciones y colecciones privadas. The 4th centennial of the death of El Greco continues to be the perfect excuse for a review of the artist's work. This time in Madrid, within the walls of the Museo del Prado, the influence of Greco's painting on the development of subsequent artistic trends and movements is addressed in a comprehensive manner. The exhibit features 26 works by the Cretan artist, and more than 50 signed by the likes of Manet, Cézanne, Picasso, Chagall, Modigliani, Kokoschka, Pollock and Saura, among other prominent artists. The event would have not been possible without works on loan from more than 70 institutions and private collections. Las noches de verano en Madrid vuelven a tener el protagonismo de la música y las artes escénicas gracias a una nueva edición de Los Veranos de la Villa. Los Jardines de Sabitini vuelven a ser el escenario principal de una programación que contará con el Circo Price, Conde Duque, o Matadero de Madrid como los lugares más destacados. El MAN, tras su reapertura al público, vuelve a su programación natural con exposiciones temporales. Los protagonistas son la fragata Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes hundida en 1804 y su recuperación por el Estado español tras el litigio mantenido en los tribunales norteamericanos contra la empresa Odyssey. La muestra, que cuenta con una segunda sede, Museo Naval, destaca la importancia del patrimonio subacuático y da a conocer el contexto histórico de la época y las circunstancias del hundimiento del buque. After reopening to the public the MAN (National Archaeological Museum) returns to its natural programming, with temporary exhibitions. The main attraction: the frigate Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes frigate, sunk in 1804, and its recovery by the Spanish State after litigation in American courts against the company Odyssey. The exhibit, which features a second site, The Naval Museum, highlights the importance of underwater cultural heritage elements, and explains the historical context of the era and circumstances of the ship's sinking.

The world's best players of basketball converge on Madrid this summer. The capital will host the final of the World Basketball Championship. This time around the event will feature sites in Barcelona, Seville, Bilbao, Gran Canaria, and Granada. Until the official rounds Spain will wrap up its preparations with an exhibition game against Argentina in the Palacio de Deportes. The game against the Argentineans will conclude a tour of exhibition games that national Spanish coach Orenga will face over the summer; Croatia, Canada and Turkey are some of the other stops on Spain's tour leading up to the World Cup.

Con demasiada frecuencia, los celos son la antesala de no pocas tragedias. Calderón tituló una de las suyas El mayor monstruo del mundo (los celos). Y lejos del teatro, en la vida real podemos escarbar entre las cifras de mujeres asesinadas a manos de sus parejas y encontraremos bastantes conflictos cuyo detonante son los dichosos celos. Shakespeare nos ha legado al menos dos hombres víctimas de esta fragilidad inesperada. Uno es Macbeth. El otro, Otelo. “Todos creemos que es una obra sobre los celos”, dice Eduardo Vasco, “cuando realmente si uno la ve se da cuenta de que es una obra sobre la manipulación donde entran en juego la violencia de género, la xenofobia y la fragilidad humana”.

All too often jealousy leads to many a tragedy. Calderón titled one of his works "The World's Greatest Monster," in reference to it. And far from the theater, in real life we can review the statistics of women killed by their partners, tracing many conflicts to the spark of jealousy. Shakespeare has bequeathed to us at least two characters who are victims of this unexpected fragility. One is Macbeth. The other, Othello. “We all think that it’s a work about jealousy”, says Eduardo Vasco, “when really, if one sees it, he realizes that it is a work about manipulation, in which gender violence, xenophobia and human fragility all enter into play."

¿Dónde está el pañuelo que te regalé? La obra, en un alto porcentaje, es el resultado del encuentro de dos personajes: Otelo y Yago. Como apunta Daniel Albaladejo, el actor que da vida al moro, el uno existe en función del otro en una relación de ida y vuelta que se va cargando con la maldad sin aristas de Yago (interpretado por Arturo Querejeta). Shakespeare hace partícipe al público de toda la perversa maquinación de Yago. “Pero también personajes como Emilia o la propia Desdémona tienen un anclaje muy sólido en nuestros tiempos, sobre todo en la cuestión de la violencia de género y el papel de las mujeres en el engranaje del poder en la época”, comenta el director. Otelo ha vivido siempre a la contra, ha dirigido los ejércitos venecianos pese a ser extranjero y de otra raza, y nadie está de acuerdo con su historia de amor con Desdémona. Esto, con la maquiavélica urdimbre de Yago, termina por hacerle perder el control. “Yo creo que no hay otra salida excepto la que se produce”, cuenta Albaladejo. El montaje lleva la marca de Eduardo Vasco, quien se reconoce deudor de los hallazgos del gran Peter Brook, con una sencillez escénica palpable, donde resaltan los actores (vestidos por Lorenzo Caprile, que diseñó a pie de escenario) y la palabra de Shakespeare. El actor murciano, a juicio de su director, “ha hecho un trabajo muy minucioso y poco externo, con lo que es un Otelo muy tierno, fuerte cuando tiene que serlo, pero que se fía mucho del alma humana”. Where is the kerchief I gave you? The work is, to a great extent, the result of an encounter between two characters: Othello and Yago. As pointed out by Daniel Albaladejo, the actor who plays the Moor, the one exists based on the other in a relationship that comes full circle marked by the bald wickedness of Yago, played by Arturo Querejeta. Shakespeare making it privy to all of Yago's perverse machinations. “But characters like Emilia and Desdemona are also very timely, above all with regards to the question of gender violence and the role of women in the power structures of the era when the work takes place,” the director states. Othello has always gone against the grain, having led Venetian armies despite the fact that he is a foreigner and of another race, and nobody approves of his story of genuine love with Desdémona. All this, and the Machiavellian schemes of Yago, end up making him lose control. “I believe that there is no another possible ending except that which takes place,” Albaladejo says. “ The stage production is the work of Eduardo Vasco, who recognizes a debt to the great Peter Brook: its simplicity is stark, allowing the actors (wardrobe by Lorenzo Caprile, who designed right off stage) and Shakespeare's words to enjoy the spotlight. The Murcian actor, in his director's opinion, “has done a very meticulous job, subtly externalized, portraying an Othello who is very tender, strong when he must, but one who trusts the human soul a lot."

Una cita aparentemente normal en la que varios amigos se juntan para cenar y celebrar la próxima llegada de un bebé al grupo desencadena un debate que cuestionará absolutamente todo. Vicente, el futuro papa primerizo, recibe preguntas y bromas sobre la futura paternidad y los cambios en la relación de pareja que conllevan la llegada de una personita a casa hasta que la respuesta al nombre escogido deja a todos boquiabiertos. A partir de ahí un conflicto familiar en el que lo fácil es identificarte con los personajes gracias a situaciones de rencillas y secretos por las que todos hemos podido pasar. The Teatro Maravillas doesn't shut its doors for vacation, so as to continue offering madrileños and visitors alike and a fresh and witty show: The Name. An apparently everyday get-together with a group of friends who meet to have dinner and to celebrate the impending arrival of a baby triggers a debate that will question absolutely everything. Vicente, on the verge of becoming a father, is bombarded with questions and jokes about his impending fatherhood and the impact the arrival of a little one has on couples. Even the name they've chosen leaves everyone agape. At this point there unfolds a familiar clash in which it's easy to identify with the characters, thanks to situations involving quarrels and secrets which might have happened to any of us; the only question is whether we handled it with the same sense of humor… A star-studded cast, headed up by Amparo Larrañaga, Antonio Molero, Jorge Bosch, Cesar Camino and Kira Miró. Text adapted by Jordi Galcerán. Directed by Gabriel Olivares, who shows how in families an anecdote is capable of unleashing a firestorm.

Empieza en la segunda planta con “Instagramers Gallery Madrid”, una muestra permanente y en constante renovación de más de 500 imágenes de la red social Instagram, e “Historia de las Telecomunicaciones”, que recoge a través de cincuenta piezas del patrimonio tecnológico de Telefónica la evolución de la comunicación a distancia desde finales del s. XIX a principios del XXI. Continúa en la tercera planta con “Arissa. La sombra y el fotógrafo. 1922-1936” –hasta el 14 de septiembre–, una exposición que reúne 160 fotografías en blanco y negro de uno de los más destacados representantes españoles de la vanguardia fotográfica. El MNCARS lo ha vuelto a conseguir. Su éxito parece asegurado en la época estival. Este año el nombre propio es Richard Hamilton quien desde la tercera planta del Museo se muestra a Madrid con la exposición antológica que constituye la retrospectiva más completa sobre el pionero del Pop Art. Pasear por las catorce áreas dejando que las miradas recorran paredes y estructuras, y sujetarse las manos para cumplir la orden de “NO TOCAR”, es una experiencia de difícil similitud. Es un ejercicio imaginativo complicado, pero sería como si el propio Cervantes hubiera estado ayudando al montaje de un majestuoso proyecto sobre El Quijote. Nadie mejor que él, para poder explicarnos cómo se hacen las cosas, por qué y qué buscaba con cada una de sus ideas. Richard Hamilton concibió directamente la muestra junto con

This year the man of the hour is Richard Hamilton, who, on the third floor of the Museum, is revealed to Madrid through ananthological exhibition that represents the most comprehensive retrospective ever on the Pop Art pioneer. Strolling through the 14 areas, taking in the walls and structures, and putting one's hands together in order to obey the “DO NOT TOUCH” signs, is a truly unique experience, a complicated imaginative exercise. It would be as if Cervantes himself had been helping to put together a grand project on Don Quixote; nobody better than he to explain to us how things were done, why, and what he was looking for with each one of its ideas. los comisarios del Museo Reina Sofía. Por eso en muchos momentos es un diálogo en primera persona, una retrospectiva en tiempo presente. La exposición cuenta con el Patrocinio de la Fundación Abertis. Pinturas, grabados, dibujos, fotografías, impresiones informáticas, obras de diseño industrial y réplicas componen un conjunto de 270 obras que recorren la vida del artista y todas sus etapas creativas. Las fuentes de Hamilton son también de lo más diversas, desde los dibujos mecánicos a la cultura popular, pasando por la obra de maestros antiguos como Fra Angelico y Giorgione, o de artistas y autores modernos como Marcel Duchamp o James Joyce. La pluralidad de su obra, heterogénea pero coherente a la vez, tendió un puente entre la era moderna y la posmoderna y le convirtió en una importante figura para una nueva generación de artistas influidos por el arte conceptual. De hecho, no sólo se reconoce internacionalmente a Hamilton como uno de los fundadores del Pop Art sino también como precursor del apropiacionismo, la instalación y otras tendencias que han sido cultivadas posteriormente. La cita en el museo madrileño estaba marcada con un color distinto, de los que te llaman la atención, en el panorama internacional. What is a "mundo violeta" according to Helena Lopez-Casares? In my "Violet" world there is dynamism, enthusiasm and metamorphosis. Being Violet means being open to curiosity, amazement, observation of the present, and creativity. In your latest works you've put a lot of emphasis on the ability to imagine and to believe in possibilities. Do you believe that society has us locked into a fixed dynamic? We're coming off a period when reason was a kind of straightjacket for us. Everything was the object of analysis, comparison, reasoning and logic, which leaves little room for divergent thinking, broadmindedness, paradoxical thinking and intuition. It is essential that we believe in ourselves. To imagine other possibilities is to be intelligent. And taking action is a sign of life mastery. You see teachers as the "great catalyst for change in society." What is the most necessary change you see in the day to day? The most necessary change has to do with the use of language. If we're telling ourselves all day that things are tough, that everything is a drag, or not for us, we sacrifice the ability to create. We have to watch our language, be more grateful, say that we like people, that the day before us is going to be great, and that life is full of opportunities. Will Helena Lopez-Casares rest this summer? This summer I will head to the sea, a fantastic place to oxygenate the mind and release emotions.

Cartagena está lista para suplir a Oslo como capital Noruega. Al menos por unos días, y con argumentos culturales. Desde el 18 y hasta el 26 de julio Cartagena acoge la mayor muestra de música, cine, arte y literatura noruega. Tal despliegue solo puede ocurrir en España en el Puerto de Culturas que es Cartagena y bajo la bandera de La Mar de Músicas. El país nórdico recibe el honor de ser el invitado de lujo en una edición en la que además se conmemora el veinte aniversario del festival. Cada año más y mejor. Pese a todas las notas de alegría y celebración, el ciclo estará también marcado por el triste adiós de Bobby Womack en los últimos días de junio. Volviendo a los sabores noruegos. FESTIVAL TERRAL *vuelta a la playa Con algo de retraso este año por la programación del Teatro Cervantes el 20 de julio arranca El Terral. Lo hace de nuevo en la playa. Durante dos días en el club Candado Beach se rinde homenaje a Woodstock. Un concierto colectivo con diez bandas malagueñas recuperarán el sabor de la música hippie a base de buenos guitarrazos. La organización ha preparado un cartel ecléctico con nombres que ya conocen las bondades del Cervantes y algunos que son totalmente nuevos. Sobresalen Ray Lema, Sharon Corr, Ara Malikian, Joan As Police Woman y Lucky Peterson. La edición 2014 viaja de la música africana al rock de raíces celtas, de la clásica ‘contaminada’ con jazz al indie de genética soul y del blues eléctrico al flamenco, que esta vez viene en doble versión: para escucharse y en su faceta divulgativa. Por supuesto dosis de flamenco. Una de las grandes de nuestro género más enraizado, Mayte Martín, no sólo cantará, sino que además ofrecerá un Curso exprés de flamenco para neófitos, y la vertiente pedagógica incluirá de nuevo un taller para niños. En total, el cartel de Terral tiene apuntados doce nombres en los que también descuellan los de Pedro Ruy-Blas, Carlos Núñez, El Negri y Dry Martina. Terral empezará los días 20 y 21 de julio en el club Candado Beach con Woodstock Málaga, un concierto colectivo en el que reverdecerán las flores de la música hippie con los guitarrazos de grupos de la tierra, y celebrará la mayoría de sus sesiones en el Teatro Cervantes. El Festival acabará el 2 de agosto con las centenarias tablas del coliseo ocupadas por un club al estilo de lo que ya se vio con el homenaje al Cotton Club del pasado Festival de Jazz: el público se sentará en veladores y podrá degustar una consumición para bailar al ritmo de The Harlettes & Soul Note.

With something of a delay this year, due to the Teatro Cervantes’s programming, on 20 July the “Terral" series returns, and it does so again on the beach. For two days the Candado Beach pays tribute to Woodstock with a joint concert featuring ten Malaga bands that will bring back the sounds of hippie music, with a strong dose of good guitar. The organization has prepared an eclectic lineup, with names already familiar to “El Cervantes," and some that are totally new. Standouts include Ray Lema, Sharon Corr, Ara Malikian, Joan As Police Woman and Lucky Peterson. The 2014 edition will feature everything from African music to rock with Celtic roots, from jazz-tainted classical to soulinfluenced indie, from electric blues to flamenco, this time featuring two facets: to be listened to and learned about. And, of course, a good dose of flamenco too. One of the greats of our most deeply-rooted genre, Mayte Martin, will not only sing, but also offer a crash course in flamenco for neophytes, with the pedagogical section once again including a workshop for children. Altogether the “Terral” lineup lists twelve names, including Pedro Ruy-Blas, Carlos Núñez, El Negri and Dry Martina. “Terral” will begin on the 20th and 21st of July on the Candado Beach with Woodstock Malaga, a joint concert at which the flowers of hippie music will bloom again, with guitar sounds by earthy groups, and most sessions at the Teatro Cervantes. The Festival will end on 2 August with the centuries-old stage at the coliseum converted into something reminiscent of what we saw at the tribute to the Cotton Club at the last Jazz Festival: audiences will sit at tablesand be able to have a drink and dance to the tunes of The Harlettes & Soul Note.

El verano siempre ha sido un tiempo que el calendario nos ofrecía para enriquecer nuestro crecimiento cultural a base de viajar y ampliar horizontes. El descanso argumentado fue una mera excusa. En los últimos lustros hemos sufrido una pequeña pandemia, cuyo síntoma más claro era el billete de avión con el destino más alejado posible. Pero siempre ha habido un antídoto: Vitoria-Gasteiz. La capital de Euskadi se mantiene en constante evolución. Su filosofía de vida le permite ir puliendo poco a poco sus formas para encontrar nuevas virtudes que exponer al resto del mundo. Esas nuevas virtudes pronto se convierten en imanes para nuevos visitantes. Una vez que atraviesas sus calles lo mejor es disfrutar de cualquiera de sus opciones. El pasado 2012 fue el mejor ejemplo. Pocas veces el título de European Green Capital estuvo tan bien ostentado. El patrimonio histórico de la ciudad es extenso. Su emplazamiento geográfico está pensado para todos los públicos. La oferta cultural y de ocio llena los doce meses del calendario. Cualquiera de las anteriores premisas son suficientes para dedicarle unos días a Vitoria-Gasteiz. Sin embargo todo crece exponencialmente cuando al lado le situamos el toque gastronómico. La inmensa tradición culinaria, la calidad de sus establecimientos, sus barras de pintxos, el sabor de sus postres y olor de los vinos de Rioja Alavesa le valen a la ciudad en este 2014 el título de Capital de la Gastronomía.

Summer has always been a time on the calendar to broaden our horizons through enriching travel. The argument about the need for rest was a mere excuse. Recent years broughtan unhealthyfad whose clearest symptom was the compulsion to buy plane tickets listing the most faraway destinations possible. But there was alwaysan antidote: Vitoria-Gasteiz. The capital of the Basque Country continues to constantly evolve. Its philosophy of life allows it to, little by little, smoothen and polish out its edges, revealing new charms to share with the rest of the world. These new attractions soon become magnets drawing new visitors. Passing through its streets, there is a whole range of options to enjoy. 2012 was a special year; rarely has the title of European Green Capital been more warranted. The city's cultural heritage is extensive, its geographical location attracts all kinds of visitors, and its cultural and leisure options run year round. Any of the above are good enough reasons to spend a few days in Vitoria-Gasteiz, but when add in the city's gourmet dining, a visit becomes a must. Its rich culinary tradition, the quality of its eateries, its pintxo bars, the taste of its desserts and the scent of its Rioja Alavesa wines garnered it recognition as the 2014 Culinary Capital. Ante tal abanico de opciones es evidente que la cocina de mercado con sus sabores tradicionales comparte acera con la imaginación propia de las recetas de la “nueva cocina vasca”. Por supuesto nada mejor que acompañar uno de los pintxos con el vino que nace en Rioja Alavesa. Se cultivan cerca de trece mil hectáreas de viñedos que producen unos excelentes crianzas, reservas y vinos de año. En este territorio se ubican cerca de 400 bodegas donde se elaboran anualmente alrededor de 100 millones de botellas de vino, bajo el control del Consejo Regulador de la Denominación de Origen. La oferta cultural en los meses de verano tiene dos citas que son el paradigma de los imanes que nombrábamos al principio. El Festival Internacional de Jazz de Vitoria-Gasteiz, que cumple en 2014 su 38ª edición. Del 14 al 19 de Julio. Y en el mes de agosto las Fiestas de la Virgen Blanca. Del 4 al 9 de agosto. Pero el Ayuntamiento se esfuerza a diario por crear programas y actividades que permitan conocer más y mejor la ciudad: Visitas enogastronómicas, rutas teatralizadas y su oferta Gastro Green Weekends, que permite alojarse en la ciudad desde 55 euros la noche en habitación doble, con un programa cultural muy completo. But the City strives daily to create programs and activities that allow people to experience it even better: food and wine routes, tours featuring dramatizations of its history, and its “Gastro Green Weekends,” which allow one to stay in the city starting at 55 euros and enjoy a very complete range of cultural offerings. Les Fonts de l´Algar, situadas a tan sólo quince kilómetros de Benidorm y a tres del centro urbano de Callosa d´en Sarrià, es un paraje natural único en la zona dotado de servicios turísticos. La visita consiste en un circuito de un kilómetro y medio de longitud a lo largo del cauce del río Algar, denominación árabe para cueva.
