Las catacumbas de San Marcelino y San Pedro, dos de las más famosas de Roma, han vuelto a abrir sus puertas al público tras una restauración que ha durado tres años. Estos trabajos han permitido la recuperación de valiosas pinturas de los primeros cristianos, utilizando técnicas como la limpieza por láser.

The catacombs of Marcellinus and Peter, two of the most famous in Rome, have been reopened to the public after a restoration that has lasted three years. Using such techniques as laser cleaning, the work has made it possible to recover valuable paintings by the first Christians.

Zwei der berühmtesten Katakomben Roms, die der Heiligen Marcellinus und Petrus, sind nun nach drei Jahren der Restaurierungen wieder für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich. Bei den Arbeiten konnten durch die Anwendung moderner Techniken wie der Laserreinigung wertvolle Gemälde der ersten Christen wiederhergestellt werden.

Si la iniciativa del Ayuntamiento de Palma prospera, Palma ya no será nunca más "de Mallorca", eliminando del nombre oficial la clásica coletilla. Según explica Neus Truyol, portavoz municipal y concejala de Ecología, Agricultura y Bienestar Animal, lo que se pretende es “recuperar la normalidad en el nombre de la ciudad que se había perdido en los últimos años”.

If an initiative by the Palma City Hall is approved, Palma will no longer be called “de Mallorca”, thus eliminating the possessive pronoun from the official name. According to Neus Truyol, a spokeswoman and the councillor for Ecology, Agriculture and Animal Wellbeing, the aim is to “recover normality for the name of the city, something that had been lost in recent years.”

Wenn die Initiative der Stadtverwaltung von Palma Erfolg hat, wird sich Palma nicht mehr „de Mallorca“ nennen und das klassische Anhängsel aus seinem offiziellen Namen entfernen. The Spy Museum, located in Leipziger Square, invites visitors to become spies for a day. Everything is designed for them to feel just like James Bond. Its 3,000 square metres, set on two different levels, present 14 sections about the history of espionage from Ancient Egypt to the recent revelations by Edward Snowden. There are 300 objects related to the most secretive profession in the world.

Im Spy Museum am Leipziger Platz können Besucher für eine kleine Weile zum Spion werden. Die ganze Ausstellung ist so konzipiert, dass man sich wie James Bond fühlt. Aprovechando la estructura de la Torre Orbit, situada en el Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, este tobogán en forma de túnel tendrá algunas paredes transparentes para que los visitantes puedan contemplar Londres durante la bajada, si es que les da tiempo. Se estima que se tardará unos 40 segundos en completar el recorrido de 178 m. de altura.

If you suffer from vertigo, the latest attraction in London is definitely not for you. Wrapped around the Orbit Tower at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, this slide in the shape of a tunnel will have some transparent walls so that visitors can get views of London as they descend –­if there’s time. It’s estimated that the 178-metre trip down will take just 40 seconds.

Habanarte 2016, the big Cuban arts festival, will take over the streets of Havana between 10 and 21 September. Organised by the country’s Ministry of Culture, this multidisciplinary event includes music outdoors and in theatres, as well as exhibitions and other samples of Cuban creativity.

Habanarte 2016, das große Kunstfestival auf Kuba, wird vom 10. bis 21. September wieder die Straßen Havannas erfüllen. n la isla de Cuba se escribió un capítulo importante en la vida del famoso escritor americano Ernest Hemingway. Allí vivió durante veinte años y creó algunas de sus mejores obras: Por quién doblan las campanas, París era una fiesta o Islas en el golfo.

Durante ese tiempo desarrolló un fuerte vínculo que nunca dudó en confesar: “Amo este país y me siento como en casa", decía. Los cubanos supieron devolverle este afecto y su paso por la isla ha quedado grabado en su historia y en los numerosos rincones que mantienen vivo su recuerdo. El Hotel Ambos Mundos, La Bodeguita del Medio, La Floridita o su propia casa Finca Vigía son el testimonio de su retiro en esta isla del Caribe.

Su primer contacto con Cuba tuvo lugar en 1928, aunque no fue hasta 1932 cuando vuelve y el alma de la isla le atrapa durante dos décadas. El Hotel Ambos Mundos, en La Habana, se convirtió en su casa y su lugar de trabajo durante los primeros meses de estancia.

A significant chapter in the life of the famous American author, Ernest Hemingway, was written on the island of Cuba. For 20 years he lived there, creating some of his finest works: For Whom the Bell Tolls, A Moveable Feast, or Islands in the Stream. During that time, Hemingway developed a profound attachment to Cuba, which he was never reluctant to admit: “I love this country and I feel at home here,” he said. The Cubans knew how to repay this affection, and the writer’s time on the island is etched in its history and in the numerous spots that keep his memory alive. The Hotel Ambos Mundos, La Bodeguita, La Floridita or his own home, Finca Vigía, bear testimony to his stay on this Caribbean island.

Hemingway’s first contact with Cuba was in 1928, although it wasn’t until 1932 that he returned and, enraptured by the island’s soul, remained for two decades. Hotel Ambos Mundos in Havana became his home and workplace during the first months of his stay. In room 511, his typewriter, complete with a sheet of paper, his glasses and a pencil that belonged to him at that time are all still on show. That same room was also the starting point for many nights out that finished up in the city’s most famous bars: Bodeguita del Medio and La Floridita. Su tercera mujer, Martha Gellhorn, puso fin a las habitaciones de hotel en la ruidosa Habana Vieja cuando encontró Finca Vigía.

Este fue el paraíso donde el autor concibió y escribió obras maestras.

The daiquiri created by “Papa Hemingway” is, in fact, a blend of two different rums, a shot of lemon and two servings of crushed ice.

The writer’s third wife, Martha Gellhorn, put an end to hotel rooms in the noisy Havana old town when she found Finca Vigía. This was the haven where the author conceived and wrote his masterpieces. It was his fortress, his mountain refuge lined with over 9,000 books. A hideaway in the Havana district of San Francisco de Paula where their children grew up happily. A source of inspiration, where Hemingway wrote The Old Man and the Sea, the novel in which, according to the writer himself, he found the literary style he had been searching for all his life. It earned him a Pulitzer and later contributed to his winning the Nobel Prize for Literature. Such was Hemingway’s love for the place that when he was awarded this prize

Una fuente de inspiración donde escribió El viejo y el mar, novela en la que, según él dijo, encontró el tono literario que había buscado toda su vida y que le valió el Pulitzer que le impulsó, más tarde, al premio Nobel de Literatura. Tal fue su unión con este lugar que cuando recibió dicho reconocimiento en 1954, se lo dedicó a su gente de Cojímar, pueblo pesquero cercano a Finca Vigía, donde tenía anclado a Pilar, su pequeño barco con el que salía a pescar y, según alguna leyenda, a cazar submarinos nazis.

La vida se detuvo en Finca Vigía en 1960 cuando el escritor abandonó La Habana dispuesto a volver, pero terminó suicidándose un año después. Sus libros, sus trofeos, sus trajes de su época como reportero de guerra, su máquina Royal en la que escribió parte su obra, hasta sus zapatos. Todo permanece intacto en la que hoy se ha convertido en la casa museo de Hemingway. Nada recuerda más la presencia del escritor en Cuba que este lugar que recrea fielmente la rutina de uno de los autores más brillantes del siglo XX. Aunque el escritor y premio Nobel es mundialmente conocido a través de sus historias y sus novelas, en este país existe toda una tradición oral en torno a él y su recuerdo sigue vivo en distintos rincones de la isla. Así, existe una Cuba que habla de la vida del escritor, una Cuba “larga, hermosa y desdichada” como la definió el propio Ernest Hemingway.

All remain intact in what has today become the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. Nothing evokes more memories of the writer’s time in Cuba than this place, which faithfully recreates the daily routine of one of the 20th century’s most outstanding writers.

Although the author and Nobel prize winner is known world-wide through his stories and novels, in this country a whole oral tradition still survives around him, and his memory perdures in different corners of the island. There exists, then, a Cuba that speaks of the writer’s life, a Cuba that’s “long, beautiful and unhappy” as Ernest Hemingway himself defined it.

Alles befindet sich unversehrt in dem Haus, das heute das Hemingway Museum ist. Nichts erinnert stärker an die Anwesenheit des Schriftstellers auf Kuba als dieser Ort, der treu die Alltagsroutine eines der brillantesten Autoren des 20. Jahrhunderts darstellt.

Obgleich der Autor und Nobelpreisträger durch seine Geschichten und Romane weltweit berühmt ist, herrscht in diesem Land eine mündliche Überlieferung rund um ihn und die Erinnerung an ihn lebt an den verschiedensten Orten der Stadt weiter. Es gibt also ein Kuba, in dem über das Leben des Schriftstellers gesprochen wird, ein “reiches, schönes und unglückliches” Kuba, wie Ernest Hemingway es selbst beschrieb.

n el imaginario colectivo, las ciudades tienen símbolos.

Resulta imposible separar París de la torre Eiffel, Londres del Big Ben o Nueva York de la estatua de la Libertad. Para la Ciudad Condal, este papel lo ha cumplido, durante un siglo, la Sagrada Familia de Gaudí. Pero en los últimos años se ha establecido un nuevo icono que supera en fama mundial a la maravillosa basílica del genio del modernismo: El Fútbol Club Barcelona y el Camp Nou. Esta es una reflexión que el periodista Josep Maria Casanovas hizo en el diario Sport. “Durante muchas décadas la Sagrada Familia y Gaudí fueron los iconos internacionales de la ciudad de Barcelona”, escribió. “En el siglo XXI el Fútbol Club Barcelona, el Camp Nou y Leo Messi han tomado el relevo para convertirse en un fenómeno mundial gracias a los éxitos deportivos que la televisión lleva a todos los rincones del planeta”.

Fundado en 1899, el Barcelona es un club de socios que, además de equipo de fútbol, tiene secciones profesionales de baloncesto, balonmano, hockey sobre patines y fútbol sala. In the collective imagination, cities have their symbols. It’s impossible to separate Paris from the Eiffel Tower, London from Big Ben or New York from the Statue of Liberty. For Barcelona, this role has been played for a century by the Sagrada Familia basilica, conceived by architect Antonio Gaudí. But in recent years there has been a new icon that surpasses the world fame of this marvellous basilica designed by that genius of Art Nouveau: the Fútbol Club Barcelona and its Camp Nou stadium.

That was the thesis of Josep Maria Casanovas in the pages of the daily Sport. “For many decades the Sagrada Familia and Gaudí were the international icons of the city of Barcelona,” he wrote. “In the 21st century the Fútbol Club Barcelona, Camp Nou and Leo Messi have replaced them to become a world phenomenon thanks to their sporting success that television carries to every part of the world.”

Founded in 1899, Barcelona has, in addition to the football teams, other professional squads in basketball, handball, roller hockey and indoor football. The club is intimately linked to the city and to the Catalan identity. So much so that the great writer Manuel

“El interés por el deporte como espectáculo ha traspasado todas las fronteras posibles y la presencia global de la entidad mantiene este mismo carácter”, reflexionaba en 2012 Carles Murillo, de la universidad Pompeu Fabra, en su texto El FC Barcelona. Claves del modelo deportivo y de gestión, “especialmente reforzado por el acuerdo suscrito en el 2006 con UNICEF, por el que ambas instituciones colaboran en acciones humanitarias y de solidaridad con los más desfavorecidos”.

Esta fama no es fruto de la casualidad. Todo comenzó en 2003, cuando bajo la presidencia de Joan Laporta se creó un plan basado en tres pilares: “el estilo de juego, la presencia internacional y los aspectos sociales”.

El primero, que se fundamenta en la posesión de balón, el ataque y el aprovechamiento de la cantera, nace de los años en los que Michels y Cruyff trajeron al Barcelona el estilo holandés de juego. Continuado por Rijkaard, Guardiola y ahora Luis Enrique, es una forma de jugar reconocible e imitada en el mundo entero.

Para lograr la internacionalización de la marca, uno de los métodos fue la organización de amistosos y giras por otros continentes en las escasas fechas libres que dejan los campeonatos oficiales. En esto han tenido un éxito absoluto. Da igual al lugar que se viaje, aunque sea el más remoto del planeta: siempre habrá alguien que vaya con el Barcelona y otro que sea fan del Madrid.

En lo deportivo, está claro que pocos equipos pueden compararse en el siglo XXI al Fútbol Club Barcelona. Lleva más de 20 títulos entre Ligas, Copas del Rey, Champions, Copas del Mundo de Clubs... Ha logrado el triplete, es decir, ganar la Liga, la Champions y la Copa del Rey el mismo año, algo que únicamente el Barcelona, de entre todos los equipos europeos, ha conseguido en dos ocasiones. La FCBEscola, su modelo de cantera, es un ejemplo a seguir por otros clubs y acceder a ella es un sueño para cualquier aspirante a futbolista.

La ciudad tiene a su nuevo icono en el equipo blaugrana. Y, por suerte, siempre le quedará Gaudí.

“The interest in sport as spectacle has crossed all possible frontiers and the global presence of club maintains that same character,” wrote Carles Murillo, of the Pompeu Fabra University, in his 2012 book The Barcelona FC: Keys to the Sporting and Management Model. “This has been especially reinforced by the agreement signed in 2006 with UNICEF, by which both institutions work together in humanitarian actions and in solidarity with the most disadvantaged.”

All this fame is not accidental.

Everything began in 2003, when the club, under president Joan Laporta, devised a plan based on three pillars: “the club’s style of play, its international importance, and social aspects.” The first element –which is characterised by ball possession, attack and a reserve of young players– had its origin in the years when coaches Michels and Cruyff brought the Dutch style of play to Barcelona. It was continued by Rijkaard, Guardiola and now Luis Enrique, and has become a clearly recognisable style of play that is imitated all over the world.

To achieve that internationalization of the brand, one of the methods was to organise friendly matches and tours of other continents during the few free dates Barça has after appearing in official competitions. And in this area the success has been absolute. It doesn’t matter what point in the world is visited, even the most remote: there will always be someone there who supports Barcelona and someone else who’s a Madrid fan.

In the sporting sphere, it’s clear that few teams in the 21st century can be compared to Fútbol Club Barcelona. It has won more than 20 titles between League play, the King’s Cup, Champions, the FIFA Club World Cup... Of all the European teams, Barça is the only one to win the ‘triple crown’ –League, Champions and King’s Cup– in the same year, and it did so on two occasions. The FCBEscola, its system to bring along younger players, has been a model for other clubs, and being admitted to the system is the dream of any aspiring footballer.

The city has its new icon in this club. And luckily, it will also always have Gaudí.

Um die Internationalisierung voranzutreiben, wurden in der knappen Freizeit zwischen den offiziellen Spielen unter anderem Freundschaftsspiele und Tourneen auf anderen Kontinenten organisiert. Darin verzeichneten sie einen großen Erfolg. Wohin sie auch reisen, und sei es ans Ende der Welt: Immer wird es jemanden geben, der für Barcelona ist und jemand anderen, der ein Fan von Madrid ist.

Es ist ganz klar, dass sich im 21.

Jahrhundert auf sportlichem Gebiet nur wenige Mannschaften mit dem FC Barcelona messen können. Er hat über 20 Titel geholt, von der Liga über den Königspokal, die Champions League bis hin zur FIFA-Weltmeisterschaft...

Er hat einen Tripel-Sieg errungen, also in ein und demselben Jahr die Liga, die Champions-League und den Königspokal gewonnen, von allen europäischen Mannschaften hat das nur Barcelona zweimal geschafft. Die FBCEscola, das Kadermodell Barcelonas, ist beispielhaft für andere Clubs und von ihm aufgenommen zu werden, ist ein Traum für jeden Anwärter zum Fußballstar.

Die Stadt hat mit der blaudunkelroten Mannschaft ihr neues Wahrzeichen. Und zum Glück wird auch Gaudí ihr immer erhalten bleiben.

The cubes that make up the front of the H10 Cubik, with its straight, geometric lines, give an idea of the futurist style of this hotel.

Located on the Via Laietana, in the old part of Barcelona and very close to the Cathedral, the H10 Cubik is a superior four-star hotel with 101 rooms. The building’s architecture is inspired by the Brutalist movement of the mid 20th century. The interior, in the same aesthetic line as the façade, plays with geometric forms and futuristic elements that give it an elegant, vanguard aspect.

a cerveza artesanal se ha convertido en una joven chulapa de vida alegre que cautiva al consumidor curioso y ávido de nuevas sensaciones. Morena, rubia, tostada, afrutada, aromatizada… y, además, desde hace unos cinco años, con acento español.

El auge de la cerveza artesanal ha propiciado la aparición de pequeños cerveceros que compiten por atraer a paladares exigentes elaborando intensas y aromáticas birras que cautivan a los madrileños.

La cerveza artesanal es la niña bonita, la mimada del mundo cervecero. El proceso de elaboración, la calidad de los ingredientes y la fórmula creada por el maestro cervecero la diferencian de una industrial. Su textura es más densa, presenta un color turbio producto de los posos (no se filtra), es rica en matices y tiene un sabor más amargo que permanece en el paladar.

En este mundillo, Madrid ya apuntaba maneras. Hubo un tiempo en el que en la capital se elaboraba cerveza de forma artesanal; sin embargo, con la industrialización llegaron las grandes cerveceras que hacían más litros en menos tiempo.

A pesar de todo, en los últimos años se ha recuperado esta tradición y en España existen más de 500 microcervecerías que experimentan con recetas a base de lúpulo y malta.

Muchas de ellas han fermentado en Madrid y alrededores.

Craft beers are getting great attention from the beer world right now. With their careful manufacturing process, the quality of their ingredients and formulas created by master brewers, they are a far cry from industrially produced beers. Their texture is thicker, has a cloudy colour due to the sediments (they are not filtered), is rich in nuances and has a more bitter taste that stays on the palate.

Madrid once had a certain brewing tradition of this kind; there was a time when it produced craft beers. But with industrialisation came the big brewers who made more litres in less time. But in recent years this tradition has been revived, and today there are more than 500 microbreweries that are experimenting with hop and malt recipes. Many of them are in Madrid and environs.

Outstanding among them is Cervezas La Virgen, one of the four most important in terms of volume –this year they will produce 300,000 litres– and presence in bars and restaurants. The firm took its inspiration from the brewpubs that have been popular for some time in the United States. In Spain all this is just getting going. César Pascual, head of marketing and distribution for

Das selbstgebraute Bier ist in der Welt der Brauereikunst das hübsche, verwöhnte Mädchen. Durch den Brauereiprozess, die Qualität der Zutaten und das vom Braumeiser erarbeitete Rezept hebt es sich von einem herkömmlichen Bier aus der Fabrik ab. Seine Textur ist dichter, weist eine von der Bierhefe stammende trübe Färbung auf (es wird nicht gefiltert), es gibt es in feinen Abstufungen und es hat einen bittereren Geschmack, der im Gaumen verbleibt.

In dieser Welt gab Madrid schon einmal Anlass zu Hoffnung. Es gab eine Zeit, da in der Hauptstadt Bier auf traditionelle Art gebraut wurde. Doch mit der Industrialisierung kamen die großen Brauereien, die in kürzerer Zeit mehr Liter herstellten. Trotz allem wurde die Tradition in den letzten Jahren wiederbelebt. In Spanien gibt es über 500 Mikrobrauereien, die mit Rezepten auf der Basis von Hopfen und Malz experimentieren. Viele von ihnen haben in Madrid und im Madrider Umland begonnen.

restauración. Ellos encontraron la inspiración en los brewpubs y en la corriente cervecera que impregna las gargantas de los estadounidenses desde hace mucho tiempo. En España todavía se están viviendo los primeros años de este fenómeno que, en opinión de César Pascual, responsable de Marketing y Distribución de Cervezas La Virgen, se ha visto motivado por “la crisis generalizada y los nuevos artesanos que han ido surgiendo”.

Así, en un paseo por el Madrid más cervecero no faltan bares donde los grifos se cuentan por decenas o tiendas con paredes forradas de botellines que guardan brebajes exquisitos. Fernando Pérez, fundador de Club de Catas —una empresa que ofrece catas de cerveza artesana a domicilio en Madrid—, comenta que “cada vez son más las personas que sienten curiosidad y que se animan a pedir esa cerveza nueva que hay en el bar o que se piensan dos veces cuál marida mejor con la ración que han pedido”. En este sentido, Pascual y Pérez coinciden en la importancia de concienciar al consumidor de todo el proceso que hay detrás de una cerveza artesanal y de la diferencia de calidad que existen con respecto a una comercial.

“Esto no ha hecho más que comenzar”, vaticina Pascual. Todo apunta a que, algún día, quedarán atrás los tiempos en los que al entrar en un bar se pedía “una caña” con un escaso grado de exigencia en cuanto a lo que se servía (siempre y cuando tuviera ese bonito tono dorado y estuviera bien fría).

Ahora Madrid sabe a cerveza hecha con tradición, cariño y mucho lúpulo; una receta que se ha ido perfeccionando con los años.

Thus a tour through Madrid turns up bars with dozens of different taps, or shops with rows and rows of bottles containing exquisite brews. Fernando Pérez, founder of the Club de Catas –a firm that offers craftbrews for sampling at home– says that “there are more and more people who are curious about this new kind of beer and decide to try it in a bar or carefully consider which brew might go best with some food they’ve just ordered.” In this sense, Pascual and Pérez both stress the importance of making consumers aware of the whole process behind these craft beers and how different they are in quality from commercial drinks.

“This is only just beginning,” Pascual predicts. There are indications that in the future people will no longer enter a bar and just as for “a draft beer”, with few expectations as long as it had that nice golden colour and is cold.

Now Madrid tastes like beer that’s been made respecting tradition, with affection and plenty of hops; a recipe that’s been perfected over the years.

In diesem Sinne sind sich Pascual und Pérez darüber einig, wie wichtig es ist, die Konsumenten für den gesamten Prozess, der ein hausgebrautes Bier ausmacht, und für den qualitativen Unterschied zu einem herkömmlichen Bier zu sensibilisieren. „Das ist erst der Anfang“ prophezeit Pascual. Alles weist darauf hin, dass die Zeiten, in denen man in eine Bar kam und „ein Bier“ bestellte, ohne von dem, was einem serviert wurde, viel zu verlangen (solange es diese hübsche, goldene Färbung hatte und schön kühl war), eines Tages vorbei sein werden.

Jetzt schmeckt Madrid nach Bier, in dem Tradition, Liebe und viel Hopfen steckt; ein Rezept, das mit den Jahren perfektioniert wurde.

Madrid, like the Big Apple, is a cosmopolitan, open city. So it’s not surprising that the interior of the H10 Tribeca, that graces the Spanish capital, should be inspired by the industrial world of New York and Manhattan.

Located just a few steps from the Paseo de la Castellana, one of the capital’s principal financial areas, and very close to the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, the H10 Tribeca, which takes its name from the famous Manhattan neighbourhood, is a fourstar establishment with 140 rooms that is reopening after extensive refurbishing.

An impressive library with double-high ceilings and brickwork walls welcomes guests to the lobby. Next to it is the Lobby Bar, a perfect place for enjoying a relaxed after-work break. The Soho restaurant, with a selection of light dishes based on Mediterranean cuisine, completes the culinary offer.

Naturally in a hotel located in the heart of Madrid’s financial centre, the H10 Tribeca has two meeting rooms on the upper floor, with translucent glass walls that bring out the industrial aspect of the ground floor.

Todo renace, como la Sakura, el nombre japonés que recibe la flor del cerezo y que es todo un símbolo en Japón. La Sakura simboliza la belleza de la naturaleza y el renacimiento de la vida.

En junio de 2012 nació el primer restaurante Sakura en el H10 Lanzarote Princess, con el anhelo de crear un espacio asiático dentro del hotel. Especializado en la exótica gastronomía asiática (cocina japonesa, india, tailandesa, china e indonesia), se le puso el nombre de la delicada flor del cerezo japonés. Más tarde llegaría el Sakura del H10 Rubicón Palace.

Los Sakura son restaurantes a la carta basados en cocina asiáticafusión. En un ambiente acogedor e informal, con un suave aroma a incienso y música ambiental, su carta se basa en ensaladas, sopas, arroces, noodles, carnes y pescados.

Everything is reborn, like the Sakura, the Japanese word for cherry blossom, which is a symbol in Japan. The Sakura represents the beauty of nature and the rebirth of life.

June 2012 brought the first Sakura restaurant to the H10 Lanzarote Princess, with the aim of creating an Asian area inside the hotel.

Specialising in exotic Asian cuisine (Japanese, Indian, Thai, Chinese and Indonesian fare) it bore the name if that delicate Japanese cherry blossom.

Later would come the Sakura at the H10 Rubicón Palace.

These Sakura restaurants have a la carte menus based on Asian-fusion cooking. In a warm informal setting, with a soft aroma of incense and background music, the menu is based on salads, soups, rices, noodles, meats and fish.

The innovation at the H10 Hotels chain is the Sakura Teppanyaki restaurants at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace, the H10 Conquistador and the H10 Las Palmeras, the three of them located in Tenerife. These restaurants offer Teppanyaki hotplate cooking and a sampler menu for all the diners composed of the best selection of sushi, soups, fish, meats and desserts.

But there’s also Oriental cuisine on the other side of the sea. The Ocean hotels in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba have Oriental restaurants to satisfy fans of this kind of food.

ice Enric González, periodista español y autor de varios libros de viaje, que cuando en Nueva York son las tres de la tarde, en Europa son las nueve de diez años antes. Si aplicáramos este abismo temporal entre ciudades de nuestro continente, a Londres le tocaría llevar la batuta. Con sus ocho millones y medio de habitantes, esta urbe cosmopolita marca la vanguardia artística y social de este lado del océano. Se podría afirmar, vaya, que lo que en otras partes se tilda de experimento, en la capital del Reino Unido es ya un caso archivado. Lo hemos visto con la música, la pintura o el fútbol, aunque en este último caso nos cueste más admitirlo. Y no se quedan atrás en las mutaciones paisajísticas, en la inevitable modificación que sufren los centros urbanos y la periferia. La última víctima de este fenómeno responde al nombre de Shoreditch, distrito bohemio convertido en lo que ellos llaman "the place to be".

"El lugar en el que hay que estar" para enterarse de lo que ocurre en el mundo. Ya les pasó a Camdem Town, al Soho o a Carnaby Street.

Los tres han ido desfilando, según la época, por las páginas de guías y revistas especializadas en captar lo cool. Ahora le toca el turno a este espacio del noreste londinense.

Y no solo porque su atmósfera

Spanish journalist Enric González, the author of several travel books, has said that when it’s three o’clock in New York, in Europe it’s nine o’clock three years earlier. If we were to apply that temporal abyss to Europe, London would be the leader. With its eight and a half million inhabitants, this cosmopolitan city is the artistic and social arbiter on this side of the ocean. It might even be said that what in other countries is branded as experimental, is in the capital of the United Kingdom already old hat.

We’ve seen it with music, painting and football, even though in the latter case we don’t like to admit it. And Londoners are also leaders in that inevitable modification undergone by cities and their surroundings. The last place to experience this phenomenon goes by the name of Shoreditch, a bohemian district that has become “the place to be.”

“The place you have to be” to find out what’s going on in the world. It already happened in Camdem Town, Soho and Carnaby Street. In different periods, those three places filled the guide books and magazines that specialized in capturing the cool. Now it’s the turn of this area in northeast London. And not just because its bohemian atmosphere has attracted illustrious residents like actress Keira Knightley or Aussie Russell Crowe: its weekend street markets, its proletarian aesthetic such a short distance from the city centre, and the opening of uninhibited new businesses with an intellectual touch have elevated it to the podium of what’s trendy.

But few people are able to explain just why Shoreditch is fashionable.

Maruxa Ruiz del Árbol, a Spanish journalist who has lived in the area for several years, thinks that it started bubbling during the Olympic Games of 2012, when it was touted as a place to visit. Before that it might even have been risky to walk there at certain hours. “They prettified it and it made it more visible,” she says now. “Some of the reasons it has flowered are that it is beside The City [the financial district], that it was an artistic epicentre, and that it hosted many festivals, such as Lovebox in the summer, which have brought all

Las razones por las que ha florecido pueden ser que está al lado de la City (el distrito financiero), que era el epicentro del 'artisteo' y que ha habido muchos festivales, como el Lovebox en verano, que lo han llenado de actividades", enumera, "sin olvidar el Broadway Market los sábados y los mercados de las flores en Columbia Road y de Brick Lane los domingos".

Acompañando a estos atractivos eventuales se encuentran las tiendas estables. El progresivo intercambio de edad habitacional ha modificado el panorama del sector servicios. Hostelería, alojamientos y ocio se han adaptado a la demanda de los nuevos inquilinos. Gente joven, creativa y con nivel de vida más que aceptable que se acercaban desde las incipientes empresas de nuevas tecnologías de Old Street, el barrio de al lado. Comedores sofisticados como el Beagle, lounges como el Zigfrid Von Underbelly o lujosos establecimientos de piscina y terraza como el Soho Club sirven de ejemplo: tomarás algo más que 'fish and chips' y no parecerá que te has vuelto un sibarita. ¿Y al final, para qué ir y volver del trabajo al bar si puedo vivir ahí? In addition to these seasonal events there are now the established shops.

The service sector has made changes as food, lodging and leisure-time activities have adapted to the demands of new residents, some of them creative and well educated young people from the technological start-ups on Old Street, the neighbouring area. Sophisticated restaurants like Beagle, lounges like Zigfrid Von Underbelly and luxury establishments with swimming pools and terraces like the Soho Club are good examples: you’ll get something more than fish and chips without turning into a sybarite.

And in the end, why go back and forth to work and then to the bar if I can live there? This burning question, common to homo laboris, led many of these start-ups to settle in Shoreditch.

And with them came those aforementioned establishments. One of them is Cereal Killer, a café that offers more than 120 kinds of cereals and has already opened a branch in Camdem. “We’re playing off nostalgia for the 1980s and 90s, with a mix of mixed, guilty pleasures,” says the boss, Alan Keery, with a wink. A similar case is The Book Club, a relaxed reading and coffee break place in the morning, a cocktail bar in the afternoon and a DJ joint at night. Carolina Kaven, who runs the business, says that success has come thanks to “the creative magnetism of a community that works and socializes in the streets. It’s an artistic, musical and cultural refuge that can’t be found in other parts of London,” she says. Although maybe it’s already here and we’ll just take a few years to see it.

Esta cafetería ofrece "una experiencia 'cerealítica'" a través de sus más de 120 tipos de productos y ya ha abierto una sucursal en Camdem. "Jugamos con la nostalgia de los años ochenta y noventa", explica Alan Keery, su director, "con la mezcla de los placeres mezclados y culpables", ironiza. Parecido es el caso de The Book Club, local de asueto y lectura por la mañana, coctelería por la tarde y sala de DJ por la noche. Carolina Kaven, responsable, define su éxito gracias al "magnetismo creativo de una comunidad que trabaja y socializa" en sus calles. "Es un refugio artístico, musical y cultural que no se encuentra en otras partes de Londres", sostiene. Aunque, quizás, ya haya llegado y nosotros tardemos años en verlo.

Junge, kreative Leute mit einem mehr als passablen Lebensstandard, die von den aufsteigenden New-TechnologyUnternehmen in Old Street, dem angrenzenden Bezirk, kamen. Stylische Restaurants wie das Beagle, Lounges wie die Sigfrid Von Underbelly oder luxuriöse Schwimmbäder und Terrassen wie der Soho Club sind dafür ein Beispiel: Man kann mehr essen als 'fish and chips' ohne gleich als Genussmensch zu gelten.

l Atlántico es en Portugal algo más que el océano. Obsesión de marinos geniales en busca de la terra ignota y fuente de esperanza para miles de pescadores anónimos, aquí la tradición, en sus múltiples facetas, va ligada al oleaje de Poniente. Para Rubén Pereira el mar es también fuente de inspiración en la cocina. Esta garoupa (mero) portuguesa es, a partes iguales, una reverencia al mar y un homenaje a la cocina tradicional de su abuela Deolinda. Se ha forjado como cocinero en cruceros por el Caribe, un mundo extenuante y sacrificado, pero en donde “si pretendes aprender muchas cosas, es el lugar ideal para empezar”, reconoce.

Tras dos años de fogueo diario en alta mar, Pereira volvió a casa, mitad guiado por la saudade, mitad por las ganas de dar forma a una cocina más personalizada. Pasó un año y medio como chef en un restaurante de día hasta que tomó los fogones del H10 Duque de Loulé de Lisboa, el primer establecimiento de la cadena en Portugal, abierto hace apenas un año. “Empezar la cocina de cero fue un reto, todo un desafío”, asegura Rubén. “Pero de la misma manera,

For Portugal, the Atlantic is more than just an ocean. For centuries it was an obsession with sailors traversing terra ignota and a fountain of hope for thousands of anonymous sailors: here multifaceted tradition is linked to the waves under a setting sun. For Rubén Pereira the sea is also a source of inspiration in the kitchen. His Portuguese garoupa (grouper) is part reverence for the sea and part homage to the traditional cooking of his grandmother Deolinda. He trained as a chef on cruises through the Caribbean, a tiring and self-sacrificing world but also where “if you want to learn a lot, it’s the ideal place the begin.”

After two years of daily service before the ovens on the high seas, Pereira came home, half attracted by nostalgia and half by the urge to engage in more personalised cooking. He spent a year and a half in a restaurant before taking over in the kitchen of the H10 Duque de Loulé in Lisbon, the hotel chain’s first establishment in Portugal and which has only been open for this past year. “Beginning in the kitchen from zero was a real challenge,” says Rubén. “But at the same time, working in a Boutique Hotel like this has an advantage: you can make the menu

Für Rubén Pereira ist das Meer zudem eine Inspirationsquelle beim Kochen. Seine portugiesische Garoupa (Zackenbarsch) ist zu gleichen Teilen eine Verneigung vor dem Meer und eine Huldigung der traditionellen Küche seiner Großmutter Deolinda. Er hat sich auf Kreuzfahrten durch die Karibik als Koch etabliert, in einer kräftezehrenden Welt voller Entbehrungen, die jedoch „der ideale Ort ist, um anzufangen, wenn man wirklich viel lernen will“, wie er anerkennt.

Parte de ese cariño se lo lleva esta garoupa, un plato que aúna dos recetas de tradición marinera: un pescado de toda la vida y una caldereta de Setúbal, una ciudad cerca de Lisboa. Sencillez y calidad, como la mayoría de los platos de la cocina portuguesa tradicional. “En cualquier restaurante encuentras recetas como esta garoupa, platos que se cocinan igual desde hace 50 años, con productos frescos, de calidad y bien presentados”.

Rubén ha sentido magnetismo por los fogones desde que era pequeño, en parte por la influencia de su abuela Deolinda, una abuela típica portuguesa, que reunía a toda la familia alrededor de la mesa los domingos, en Santarém, la ciudad originaria del chef. “Mi abuela cocinaba este plato, así que lo veo como un homenaje a su figura”.

Part of that affection is in this garoupa, a dish that blends two recipes with a seagoing tradition –a traditional fish and seafood stew– from Setúbal, a city near Lisbon. It combines simplicity and quality, like most traditional Portuguese cooking.

“At just about any restaurant you can find recipes like this one for garoupa, dishes that are still prepared the way they were 50 years ago, with fresh, quality products that are well prepared,” he says. Rubén has been attracted to the kitchen since he was small, in part because of the influence of Deolinda, a typical Portuguese grandmother who gathered the whole family around the table on Sundays in Santarém, the chef’s hometown.

“My grandmother prepared this dish, so I consider it a tribute to her.” The flavour of the sea, of centuries of culinary culture and simplicity.

Kochstil zu entwickeln. Er verbrachte eineinhalb Jahre als Chefkoch in einem Tagesrestaurant, bis er die Leitung der Küche im H10 Duque de Loulé in Lissabon übernahm, dem ersten Haus der Kette in Portugal, das erst vor knapp einem Jahr eröffnet wurde. „Die Küche von null aufzubauen war eine große Aufgabe, eine echte Herausforderung“, versichert Rubén. „Doch gleichzeitig hat die Arbeit in einem Boutique-Hotel wie diesem einen Vorteil: man kann der Speisekarte seinen eigenen Stempel aufdrücken, seine Ideen einbringen und in jedes Gericht seine ganze Liebe hineinstecken“.

Ein Teil dieser Liebe steckt in der Garoupa, einem Gericht aus zwei Rezepten mit Seefahrertradition: ein gewöhnlicher Fisch und ein Ragout aus Setúbal. Einfachheit und Qualität, wie der Großteil der Gerichte aus der traditionellen portugiesischen Küche. „Rezepte wie diese Garoupa findet man in jedem Restaurant, Gerichte, die seit 50 Jahren immer gleich zubereitet werden, mit frischen, qualitativ hochwertigen Zutaten und hübsch angerichtet“. Rubén fühlte sich schon seit seiner Kindheit zum Kochen hingezogen. Zu einem Teil verdankt er dies dem Einfluss seiner Großmutter Deolinda, einer typisch portugiesischen Großmutter, die in Santarém, der Heimatstadt des Küchenchefs, sonntags die ganze Familie um den Tisch versammelte. „Meine Großmutter kochte dieses Gericht, daher ist es für mich wie eine Hommage an ihre Person“. Geschmack nach Meer, nach Jahrhunderten gastronomischer Kultur und nach Einfachheit.

Garoupa portuguesa con caldereta de mar Rubén Pereira | H10 Duque de Loulé

Ingredientes para una ración: Lomo de Garoupa (200 gr) Almejas (5 piezas) Cebolla (50 gr) Aceite de oliva (2 cucharadas) Patata en rodajas (100 gr) Pimiento rojo en tiras (50 gr) Tomate natural Vino blanco (2 cucharadas) 1 hoja de laurel 1 ajo picado 1 langostino Sal (un pellizco) Tabasco (un pellizco) Cilantro picado (un pellizco)

Elaboración: Se sofríe el pimiento, la cebolla, el ajo y el tomate. Se añaden las patatas, el agua y el vino. Cinco minutos después se colocan en la cazuela las almejas y el langostino, una pizca de tabasco y otra de cilantro. Se tapa y se deja cocer hasta que la patata esté hecha (aproximadamente 10 minutos).

Por otro lado, se marca el lomo de garoupa y se mete en el horno, donde se cocina 5 minutos a 200 grados.

Una vez cocinado el pescado solo queda emplatar: se encama un recipiente plano con el guiso; sobre este se coloca el lomo de garoupa y se remata con el langostino coronando el plato.

Portugiesische Garoupa mit Meeresragout: Portugiesische Garoupa mit Meeresragout: Ingredients for one serving: Back of garoupa (200 gr) Clams (five pieces) Onion (50 gr) Olive oil (2 spoons) Sliced potato (100 gr) Strips of red pepper (50 gr) Natural tomato White wine (2 spoons) 1 leaf of laurel 1 clove of chopped garlic 1 prawn Salt (a pinch) Tabasco (a pinch) Chopped coriander (a pinch)

For the ice cream: Sauté the pepper, onion, garlic and tomato. Add the potatoes, water and wine.

Five minutes later add to the casserole the clams and the prawn, a pinch of Tabasco and another of coriander. Cover and let cook until the potato is done (approximately 10 minutes).

Meanwhile, sauté the garoupa and placed it in the oven, where it cooks for 5 minutes at 200 degrees C. Once the fish is done, just put it on the plate atop the sauce, with the prawn as garnish.

Zubereitung: Die Paprika, die Zwiebel, den Knoblauch und die Tomate anbraten.

Kartoffeln, Wasser und Wein hinzufügen. Fünf Minuten später die Muscheln und die Riesengarnele mit einem Schuss Tabasco und einer Prise Koriander in den Schmortopf geben.

Zugedeckt köcheln lassen bis die Kartoffeln gar sind (etwa 10 Minuten).

In der Zwischenzeit das Zackenbarschfilet einschneiden und in den Ofen schieben, 5 Minuten bei 200°C garen.

Ist der Fisch gar, muss nur noch angerichtet werden: das Schmorgericht in ein flaches Behältnis geben; den Barsch darauf legen und zur Krönung mit der Riesengarnele abschließen.

uerteventura es la segunda isla más extensa del archipiélago canario. Tiene una amplia gama de ecosistemas, que van desde las secas zonas desérticas hasta las húmedas costeras. En sus hábitats marinos hay delfines, cachalotes, tortugas de mar... Desde mayo de 2009 es Reserva de la Biosfera de la Unesco por la importancia de su medio marino y la necesidad de preservar los espacios para las distintas especies y la pesca.

Entre las bellezas naturales de la isla que ayudaron a lograr este reconocimiento están sus playas.

En total, 150 kilómetros de arenales rodean Fuerteventura. En ellos, además de los turistas a bañarse y disfrutar del sol, acuden las tortugas a dejar sus huevos.

Corralejo, al norte de la isla, es uno de los mayores centros turísticos de toda Fuerteventura.

Allí están las llamadas Grandes Playas. Formadas por cinco arenales —Los Martos, El Viejo, Larga, El Pozo, El Caserón—, en total tienen una extensión de tres kilómetros. La arena es fina y blanca, y las aguas, de ese color turquesa que tanto gusta ver. Aunque muchos visitantes y locales acuden a disfrutarlas, la ocupación es relativamente baja.

Si en la variedad está el gusto, Corralejo es la culminación. Hay desde pequeñas calas rodeadas de rocas hasta enormes arenales en la zona norte. Estas son muy largas y están perfectamente equipadas para turistas. A medida que se baja hacia el sur, se van volviendo más pequeñas, más salvajes. Aunque en todas las playas se acepta el nudismo, se recomienda alejarse de los complejos turísticos. Si lo que se quiere es practicar kiteboarding o windsurfing, la mejor opción es el Médano, donde hay una escuela, mientras que el resto están más dedicadas al relax.

Otro lugar donde practicar el noble arte de cabalgar el mar en una tabla son las playas de Sotavento.

Fuerteventura is the second largest island in the Canaries archipelago.

It has a wide range of ecosystems, everything from dry desert-like areas to humid coastal zones. In its marine habitats are dolphins, sperm whales, sea turtles... Since May of 2009 it has been classified as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve because of the importance of its maritime resources and the need to maintain them. Among the natural beauties that helped earn this recognition are Fuerteventura’s beaches: a total of 150 kilometres where the tourists come to swim and sunbathe and the turtles come to lay their eggs.

Corralejo, in the northern part of the island, is one of the most important tourist centres on all of Fuerteventura: here are what are called the Great Beaches. Formed by five stretches of sand –Los Martos, El Viejo, Larga, El Pozo and El Caserón– they extend for three kilometres. The sand is fine and white, with turquoise waters that are easy on the eyes.

Although many visitors and locals use them, occupation is relatively low.

If variety is the spice of life, Corralejo is at the top of the list. It ranges from small coves surrounded by rocks to enormous beaches in the northern part that are perfectly equipped for tourists. As you move southward, the beaches become

Zu den Naturschönheiten der Insel, die dazu beitrugen, dass sie diese Auszeichnung erhielt, gehören auch ihre Strände.

Insgesamt ist Fuerteventura von 150 Kilometer Sandstrand umgeben.

Hierher kommen nicht nur Touristen, um zu baden und die Sonne zu genießen, sondern auch Schildkröten, um ihre Eier abzulegen.

Das im Norden der Insel gelegene Corralejo ist einer der größten Urlaubsorte von ganz Fuerteventura.

Hier befinden sich die sogenannten Großen Strände. Die Grandes Playas setzen sich aus fünf Sandstränden zusammen – Los Martos, El Viejo, Larga, El Pozo und El Caserón –, die sich zusammen über eine Länge von drei Kilometern erstrecken. Der Sand ist fein und weiß, und das Wasser hat diese beliebte türkisblaue Färbung. Obwohl viele Besucher und Einheimische die Strände nutzen, ist die Belegung nocht recht niedrig.

Wer die Vielfalt liebt, für den ist Corralejo ein Muss. Die Strände sind hier sehr vielfältig, von kleinen Buchten, die von Felsen umgeben sind, bis hin zu riesigen Sandstränden im Norden.

Diese sind sehr lang und bieten alles, was Touristen wünschen. Je weiter man in den Süden kommt, umso kleiner und wilder werden die Strände. FKK ist zwar an allen Stränden erlaubt, es wird jedoch empfohlen, von den Ferienanlagen Abstand zu halten.

Für diejenigen, die Kiteboarding oder Windsurfing betreiben möchten, ist der Strand von El Médano die beste Wahl, denn dort gibt es dafür eine Schule. Die anderen Strände eignen sich eher zur Entspannung.

la iniciación en el windsurf o el kitesurf gracias a una barrera de arena que se encuentra, según la marea, a entre 100 y 300 metros de la orilla, y crea una laguna natural de poca profundidad. Renè Egil, un enamorado de estos deportes, tiene allí su escuela, una de las más grandes del mundo y también se celebra el Campeonato Internacional de Windsurf y Kiteboarding de Fuerteventura. Pero tanto si se practica esos deportes como si solo se quiere disfrutar de un día de sol, las playas de Sotavento son de las más bonitas de la isla.

Un tercer lugar para disfrutar de la arena es Costa Calma, una de las playas que ayuda a que Fuerteventura tenga alguna de las mejores de toda Europa. Son dos kilómetros de fino grano blanco, con palmeras y pinos canarios que recuerdan a un oasis. Llena de bares y restaurantes, es uno de esos sitios de la isla preferidos por los alemanes, quizá debido a que incluso en temporada alta es posible encontrar un espacio relativamente tranquilo.

Estas son solo tres de las decenas de playas que alberga Fuerteventura. Cuando se publicita, la isla adquiere el sobrenombre de la Playa de Canarias. No es para menos. Con 150 kilómetros de arena en sus costas es virtualmente imposible no encontrar una playa al gusto de cada visitante.

Another place to practice the noble art of galloping over the waves on a board are the beaches at Sotavento.

Located in the south, they are perfect for beginners in windsurfing or kite surfing thanks to a sand barrier that, depending on the tides, is between 100 and 300 metres from shore, and which creates a shallow, natural lagoon. This is where Renè Egil, who loves these sports, has his school, one of the largest in the world and the place where the Fuerteventura International Windsurf and Kiteboarding Championship is held. But whether you engage in these sports or just want to enjoy a day in the sun, the beaches at Sotavento are the prettiest on the island.

A third place to enjoy the sand is Costa Calma, one of the best beaches in all Europe. It has two kilometres of fine white sand, with palm trees and Canary Island pines that remind one of an oasis. With its many bars and restaurants, it is one of the places on Fuerteventura that is favoured by the Germans, maybe because even in high season it is possible to find relatively calm spots.

These are just three of the beaches on an island that is sometimes advertised as Playa de Canarias. And with good reason: with 150 kilometres of sand along its coasts, it’s virtually impossible not to find a beach to please each visitor.

Zwei Kilometer feiner weißer Sand, mit Palmen und kanarischen Kiefern, die an eine Oase erinnern. Der Strand ist voller Bars und Restaurants und ist einer der beliebtesten Orte der Deutschen auf der Insel, was vielleicht daran liegt, dass man selbst in der Hochsaison noch einen relativ ruhigen Platz finden kann.

Dies sind nur drei von zahllosen Stränden, mit denen Fuerteventura aufwartet. In der Werbung wird die Insel auch oft als Strand der Kanaren bezeichnet. Und das mit gutem Recht.

Bei 150 Kilometern Sandstrand kann praktisch jeder Besucher einen Strand nach seinem Geschmack finden.

El H10 Ocean Suites de Fuerteventura abre sus puertas tras una amplia reforma

H10 Hotels cuenta con dos nuevos hoteles en Fuerteventura: el H10 Ocean Suites y el H10 Ocean Dreams. Ambos están ubicados en Corralejo, un pintoresco pueblo de pescadores muy próximo al Parque Natural de Corralejo.

El primero en abrir sus puertas tras una profunda reforma de sus instalaciones ha sido el H10 Ocean Suites. Se trata de un hotel de 200 Junior Suites con un interiorismo elegante y actual que destacan por su amplitud e incorporan salón y balcón o terraza. The H10 Ocean Suites in Fuerteventura opens its doors after a big makeover

H10 Hotels now has two new establishments on the island of Fuerteventura: the H10 Ocean Suites and the H10 Ocean Dreams. They are located in Corralejo, a picturesque fishing village very close to the Corralejo Natural Park.

The first to open its door, following a complete refurbishing, was the H10 Ocean Suites. It's a hotel with 200 Junior Suites with elegant, modern decor, which are notable for their large size and which incorporate sitting room with a balcony or terrace. It is built around a garden and two other areas with swimming pool, and offers guests a space with hammocks, a multi-sport zone and paddle courts.

The Parrots Restaurant now has a large terrace surrounded by gardens planted with local vegetation. The culinary offer is completed by the Snack Bar La Choza, located next to the swimming pool; the Bar La Duna, with a terrace and views of the gardens; the new Blue Bar, a place for night-time parties and shows; and the Bar Aqua.

Among its services are the All Inclusive programme, the Blue Team entertainment offer for adults, and the Daisy Club for the kids.

n 1948, el gran artista Joan Miró firmó una frase muy bonita para una de las Islas Baleares.

“Mallorca es realmente un país muy hermoso. En ciertos lugares, todavía se encuentra la frescura de los primeros días de la creación, lo que no se encuentra en los entornos parisinos que hemos visitado”. Y, viniendo de un hombre que había vivido el mágico París de las vanguardias artísticas, es mucho elogiar.

Aunque Miró nació en Barcelona en 1893, su familia materna era de origen mallorquín. Desde los siete años, el futuro genio veraneó en la isla, donde ya dibujaba practicando paisajes y edificios históricos.

Durante estas temporadas, el niño crea una serie de vínculos con dos emplazamientos que le acompañarán el resto de su existencia: Montroig, en Tarragona, donde estaba la masía de sus acaudalados padres, y la isla de Mallorca.

Esta relación especial puede observarse en la carta que manda a su casa tras su primer viaje a París, donde había conocido la corriente surrealista del arte que tanto le influenciaría. “La estancia en París me ha abierto un mundo de ideas, y ahora con la tranquilidad excitante del campo me lanzo a trabajar apasionadamente”, aseguraba a sus padres. “Mi ideal, París y el campo de Cataluña (naturalmente, el de Mallorca también)”.

Por si fuera poco, fortaleció esos lazos al casarse en 1929 con Pilar Juncosa, una mallorquina de buena familia, hija del fundador de Can Juncosa, la primera sociedad de fabricación de muebles de Palma de Mallorca. Fueron los bombardeos nazis a París los que hicieron que el matrimonio abandonase en 1940 la Ciudad de la Luz y pasase su primera temporada larga en la isla. Cinco años después establecieron allí su residencia de manera definitiva.

Mallorca le dio mucho a Miró.

In certain places we still find the freshness of the first days of creation, something not found in those parts of Paris we’ve visited.” Coming from a man who had lived the magic Paris of the artistic vanguards, this is high praise indeed.

Although Miró was born in Barcelona in 1893, his mother’s family was of Mallorcan origin. From the age of seven, the future genius spent his summers on the island, where he had already started to draw landscapes and historic buildings. It is during this time that the child would establish some links that he would maintain for the rest of his life: to Montroig, in Tarragona, the site of his wealthy parents’ masía (farmhouse) and the island of Mallorca.

This special relationship can be seen in his letter home after his first trip to Paris, where he had come into contact with the Surrealist movement that would so strongly influence him.

“The stay in Paris has opened up for me a world of ideas, and now with the exciting peace of the countryside I’m diving into my work with passion,” he assured his parents. “My ideal is Paris and the Catalan countryside (and naturally Mallorca’s countryside too)”.

He strengthened those ties further in 1929 when he married Pilar Juncosa, a Mallorcan woman from a good family and the daughter of the founder of Can Juncosa, the leading manufacturer of furniture in Palma de Mallorca. With the Nazi bombardments of Paris, the couple left the City of Light in 1940 and spent their first long period on the island.

Five years later they took up residence there definitively.

Mallorca gave Miró a great deal. It

Seit er sieben Jahre alt war verbrachte das zukünftige Genie seine Sommer auf der Insel, wo er Landschaften und historische Gebäude zeichnete. In dieser Zeit baute das Kind eine Verbindung zu zwei Orten auf, die ihn den Rest seines Lebens begleiten sollten: Montroig in Tarragona, wo sich der Hof seiner wohlhabenden Eltern befand, und die Insel Mallorca.

Diese besondere Beziehung kann man zum Beispiel anhand des Briefes nachvollziehen, den er nach seiner ersten Paris-Reise nach Hause schickte.

Er hatte dort die surrealistische Kunstströmung kennengelernt, die ihn so beeinflussen sollte. “Der Aufenthalt in Paris hat mir eine Fülle an Möglichkeiten eröffnet und jetzt, in der erregenden Ruhe auf dem Land, mache ich mich mit Leidenschaft an die Arbeit”, versicherte er seinen Eltern.

Poco a poco su producción volvió al ritmo normal y se atrevió con las obras monumentales. Montó un estudio propio de grabado, de dos plantas, en una antigua cochera en San Boter. Volvió a pintar. Hizo vidrieras, tapices, se metió en el mundo del teatro como diseñador de vestuario y escenarios... El día de Navidad de 1983, en su casa de Son Abrines, Miró pasó a mejor vida. Su fundación, que lleva su nombre y el de su mujer, tiene una fuerte presencia en la isla. Esa isla que era, para Miró, “realmente un país muy hermoso”.

His pace of creation diminished but he was finally able to hold a retrospective show of his work: “In the new studio I was able to unpack works that I’d done many years before,” he wrote. “When I saw all that work, in Mallorca, I began some self-criticism and I was merciless with myself. I destroyed many canvases and, especially, many drawings and gouaches.”

Little by little his production picked up and he ventured into doing much larger works. He set up his own engraving studio, on two levels, in an old coach house in San Boter.

He started painting again. He did stained glass windows and tapestries, and got into the theatre world by designing costumes and stage sets…

On Christmas Day in 1983, at his home in Son Abrines, Miró passed away. His foundation, which bears his name and that of his wife, is still important on the island. The island that, for Miró, was “really a very beautiful country.”

Fünf Jahre später ließen sie sich dort endgültig nieder.

Mallorca hat Miró viel gegeben. Hier hatte er ein eigenes Studio, entworfen von Josep Lluís Sert, dem berühmten katalanischen Architekten, und gab die Malerei auf, um sich auf die Keramik, die Gravierkunst und die Lithographie zu konzentrieren. Sein Arbeitsrhythmus verlangsamte sich etwas, aber er konnte endlich auf sein Werk zurückblicken: “Im neuen Studio konnte ich Werke auspacken, die ich viele Jahre zuvor geschaffen hatte”, schrieb er. “Als ich dies alles in Mallorca herausholte, begann ich mich selbst zu beurteilen und ich war schonungslos mit mir selbst. Ich zerstörte viele Gemälde und vor allem viele Zeichnungen und Gouachemalereien”.

Mit der Zeit nahm seine Arbeit wieder einen normalen Rhythmus an und er wagte sich an monumentale Werke. Er gründete ein eigenes Gravierungsstudio auf zwei Etagen in einer ehemaligen Garage in San Boter.

Und er begann wieder zu malen. Er erstellte Glasfenster, Teppiche, tauchte als Kostüm- und Szenenbildner in die Welt des Theaters ein... Weihnachten 1983 verstarb Miró in seinem Haus in Son Abrines. Seine Stiftung, die seinen und den Namen seiner Frau trägt, ist auf der Insel stark präsent. Dieser Insel, die für Miró “wirklich ein sehr schönes Land” war.

A su ya de por sí atractiva oferta culinaria en forma de pescaíto frito y espetos playeros, se suma la comida gourmet que lleva como ingredientes la vanguardia y la innovación. Este movimiento se ha visto materializado en el nuevo Mercado Merced que ofrece 22 experiencias gastronómicas diferentes en cada uno de sus puestos. Este nuevo escenario foodie no ha pasado desapercibido en la escena internacional; el periódico The Guardian destaca el papel del mercado para hacer de Málaga “un destino en sí mismo” dentro de la Costa del Sol. En el corazón de la ciudad, situado muy cerca del Museo Casa Natal de Pablo Picasso, el Mercado Merced crea una atmósfera moderna y cosmopolita.

Se configura como lugar en el que confluyen la tradición y un nuevo movimiento gastronómico que está conquistando a la ciudad malagueña. En un paseo por su interior, los puestos se presentan como una exposición artística de aromas, sabores y colores que embriagan a aquel que los visita.

Reabierto en septiembre de 2015, el mercado pretende adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos y hábitos de consumo. El segundo se basa en las experiencias gourmet que se viven en los más de veinte puestos donde se ofrece una carta variada y los productos se elaboran con cariño y maestría, desde las tapas más sofisticadas hasta la comida japonesa, el queso o las cervezas artesanales. Y, por último, la oferta cultural con espacios para exposiciones, eventos, talleres, catas… Un pilar fundamental que pretende hacer de este lugar algo más que un sitio donde ir a cenar o a tomar algo.

Hasta su remodelación, el Mercado de la Merced languidecía por momentos. Desde 1889 este lugar había estado vinculado al comercio, aunque el actual edificio no se construyó hasta 1985. En los últimos años había ido perdiendo importancia y poco a poco se iban cerrando locales, las instalaciones se quedaron antiguas y los pasillos, prácticamente vacíos. Se decidió darle un nuevo uso, al estilo de otros mercados conocidos en España como el de San Miguel en Madrid o la Boquería en Barcelona.

Tras seis meses de reformas, el Mercado Merced resurgía de sus cenizas para devolverle la vida al barrio y convertirse en un lugar de referencia. Aun así, se ha mantenido el estilo original de mercado con sus pequeños puestos separados y que giran en torno a una zona común donde se ubican las mesas que comparten todos los locales. De este modo, el visitante puede recorrer todos los comercios, escoger aquello que más le guste de cada uno y disfrutarlo al mismo tiempo.

Así, el Mercado Merced se configura como un lugar donde la cocina, las artes, la música, el cine y cualquier tipo de arte, no solo culinario, se encuentran para crear un lugar distinto y donde disfrutar dentro de la ciudad. Toda una revolución.

this end, it seeks to offer not only gourmet food but also become a meeting place and innovation hub. The market has been designed on three pillars. The first is traditional trade, with 17 stalls where consumers do their daily shopping for quality fresh produce. The second is based on the gourmet experiences provided by over 20 different stalls offering a varied menu of products created with skill and love, from the most sophisticated tapas to Japanese food, cheeses or craft beers. Finally, there’s a cultural side, with spaces for exhibitions, events, workshops, tastings… A fundamental element conceived to make this market something more than just a place to have dinner or a bite to eat.

Until it was refurbished, Mercado de la Merced's fortunes had faded.

Since 1889, it had been a commercial site, although the current building was not constructed until 1985. In recent years it had gradually lost importance; little by little, premises had closed down, the place itself became outdated and the passageways practically empty. The city decided to give it a makeover, along the lines of Mercado San Miguel in Madrid, or Boquería in Barcelona. After six months’ building work, Mercado Merced reemerged from the ashes to breathe new life into the neighbourhood and take its place on the map. The market’s original style has been maintained, however, with small, separate stalls around a common area with tables and chairs, shared by all. This means that visitors can look around all the different stalls, choose what they like from each one and enjoy everything at the same time.

At Mercado Merced, gastronomy, art, music, cinema and every kind of cultural expression, not only culinary creation, come together in a unique location right in the city centre. A genuine revolution.

Bis zu seiner Modernisierung verkümmerte der Mercado de la Merced zeitweise. Seit 1889 war er stets für kommerzielle Zwecke genutzt worden, wenn auch das heutige Gebäude erst 1985 erbaut wurde. In den letzten Jahren hatte der Markt an Bedeutung verloren und nach und nach schlossen Geschäfte, die Einrichtungen veralteten und die Gänge blieben so gut wie leer.

Es wurde also eine neue Nutzung beschlossen, im Stil anderer bekannter Märkte Spaniens wie des Mercado de San Miguel in Madrid oder der Boquería in Barcelona. Nach einer sechs Monate dauernden Renovierung erstand der Mercado Merced aus seiner Asche auf, verlieh dem Stadtviertel neues Leben und wurde zu einem Anziehungspunkt. Der ursprüngliche Stil des Marktes wurde trotz allem beibehalten. Die kleinen Einzelstände gruppieren sich um einen gemeinsamen Bereich herum, wo die Tische stehen, die sich alle Geschäfte teilen. So können die Besucher alle Stände besichtigen, von allem das wählen, was ihnen am besten gefällt, und es genießen.

Der Mercado Merced positioniert sich so als ein Ort, an dem Küche, Kunst, Musik, Kino, kurz, nicht nur die Kochkunst sondern jegliche Art von Kunst aufeinandertreffen und einen besonderen Ort schaffen, der innerhalb der Stadt viel zu bieten hat. Eine wahre Revolution.

Nueva web oceanhotels.net para los hoteles del Caribe Ocean, la marca de H10 Hotels para sus hoteles del Caribe, acaba de estrenar una web versátil que se adapta a cualquier dispositivo (PC, tablets, smartphones...) y que se dirige principalmente al público de Estados Unidos y Canadá. Disponible en cuatro idiomas, la web permite hacer reservas en los destinos de Riviera Maya (México), Punta Cana (República Dominicana), Cayo Santa María y Varadero (Cuba). Entre otras interesantes novedades, incorpora un comparador de precios con otras agencias y portales online y permite crear un paquete de vuelo + hotel. El proceso de reserva también ha mejorado y ahora, además de los precios, el usuario cuenta con un calendario de disponibilidad y la posibilidad de contratar servicios adicionales en un entorno mucho más atractivo y funcional.

Zu den interessanten Neuerungen gehört unter anderem die Möglichkeit, die Preise mit denen anderer Agenturen und Online-Portale zu vergleichen und Flug und Hotel zu kombinieren. Der Buchungsvorgang wurde ebenfalls verbessert und die Benutzeroberfläche ansprechender und funktionaler gestaltet. Die Nutzer finden nun neben den Preisen auch einen Kalender mit der Verfügbarkeit und können ergänzende Leistungen hinzubuchen.

Su terraza en la planta superior ofrece vistas al emblemático edificio de La Pedrera. Dispone además de 48 modernas habitaciones, una cuidada gastronomía y un fabuloso jardín originario dotado de plunge pool. A finales de año se inaugura The One Barcelona, el primer hotel urbano de cinco estrellas de la cadena, ubicado en la calle Provença, 277. Contará con 96 habitaciones, un Despacio Spa Centre y una terraza superior con plunge pool y vistas a Barcelona, entre su amplia oferta de servicios.

During the next few months H10 Hotels will open two new establishments in the Catalan capital. They are located just a short distance from the Passeig de Gràcia –one of the city’s main avenues and a showcase for the work of master architect Antoni Gaudí– and the Diagonal.

The first to open its doors, in the middle of the year, is the H10 Casa Mimosa, on Calle Pau Claris 179, in a late 19th-century Modernist building that has been perfectly restored.

Its top floor terrace provides views of the emblematic Gaudí building called La Pedrera, and it has 48 modern rooms, fine food and a fabulous original garden graced by a plunge pool. At the end of the year The One Barcelona will open, the chain’s first five-star hotel in Barcelona, at Calle Provença, 277. It will have 96 rooms, and its many services will include a Despacio Spa Centre and an upper terrace with a plunge pool and views of the city.
