Tour our new world class athletic facility and the Ron Joyce Stadium. Learn about opportunities for students to participate in sports, recreation and fitness activities. Guided tours are offered every 30 minutes from 9am to 1:30pm at the front entrance of the David Braley Athletic Centre.

First Year Parent Program This session is specifically geared to parents where they will have the opportunity to meet the University personnel who have primary responsibility for the care of student life on campus. Key University administrators will discuss the support services available to students, e.g. security, health risk management, residences, and student services.

Dr. Richard (Dick) Day, Professor in Psychology has been nominated for the MSU Teaching Award each year from 1987 (when he won for the Faculty of Social Science) until 1999. He is known as one of the University’s most enthusiastic teachers. Dr. Day will lead an exercise where you will participate in a mini lecture and learn step by step how to take create effective, smart, study notes.

Living Off Campus

Wondering what it will be like living offcampus in your first year? Not sure how to get connected and meet people? Come to this session for a little dose of reality. You’ll receive some tips on what it’s like living in a student rental and get some ideas on how to handle living at home and commuting! Hear all about SOCS (Society of Off Campus Students) and what they can do for you!

First Generation Program

If you are a student whose parents did not attend post-secondary education (college or university) in Canada then you are considered a First Gen! Research shows that First Generation students often have unique needs and face greater challenges with the transition to university.Research shows that these students often face barriers to post secondary education and the transition from high school to university that other students do not. This session addresses these needs and offers strategies on how to deal with the challenges first year university can present. Students will meet the coordinator of McMaster’s First Generation Program and learn how to take advantage of the services and resources available to them.

Anxious to see the residence you got into? Now that you know, join us in a tour of your new “pad” conducted by the student leaders who already call your building home. You’ll be introduced to a typical room with all the incredible amenities available to you as a resident!

Hop on a specially chartered HSR bus for guided tours of Hamilton’s Transit system. ‘Downtown & Beyond’ highlights some of Hamilton’s entertainment hot spots, like Hess Village, and transportation links, like the downtown bus terminal and connections to Stoney Creek, the Mountain, Niagara and Toronto.

This session will introduce incoming students to various aspects of the residence community, including a description of the student leadership system, the InterResidence Council, and helpful tips of living on-campus.
