During this time of year we often find ourselves counting the many blessings our Lord has bestowed upon us over the course of the past year. When praying about all that God has brought our way as a school community, one of my favorite worship songs comes to mind: “Though the seasons change, your love remains.”

Last year was certainly one of the biggest seasons of change Fort Worth Christian has seen in some time, and as we embarked on a comprehensive Strategic Planning process, there were many moments when we wondered how everything would come together. It is with much thanksgiving to God that I am pleased to say that come together it did – and we did, as a school, and as a community.

In this Annual Report we give thanks to those who have supported us in this

journey, and highlight some of the ways your philanthropic support helps to ensure that Fort Worth Christian continues to fulfill its Mission. As we now “Vision Forward” and seek to achieve the goals outlined in our Strategic Plan, we will need the philanthropic support of this community more than ever before, and while there is much work yet before us, I am heartened by the generosity of our families – and by our Lord’s words to us in Galations 6:9, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

YOUR SUPPORT LETS OUR TEACHERS KEEP LEARNING. FWC is partnering with Wheaton Press and the Engaged Schools Initiative – “Training Teachers to Equip a Generation of Students to Reflect Christ in their Circles of Influence.” We held two intensive workshops with our faculty and leadership teams: one in June to shape our research and planning over the summer and the second during faculty/staff pre-service in August. This is an ongoing process directly tied to our Vision: equipping students for a lifetime of faith, service, and leadership for Christ!

We believe that strong academic, spiritual and physical growth is rooted in Biblical truths and values, for when we understand and embrace God’s word, we have the basis for answering such essential questions as, “Who am I?” and “Where am I going?” In equipping our students with a Biblical worldview, we are giving our students a solid foundation for success in college and in life.

Being on a team is about more than ringing the victory bell.

YOUR SUPPORT HELPS OUR STUDENTS DEVELOP CHARACTER AND LEADERSHIP. Athletics is a key part of the FWC experience. We field 34 teams across 14 sports to give students a broad range of opportunities to play and compete as a member of a team.

All of our coaches, most of whom are also teachers, view their role as another chance to educate, guide and mentor students – modeling strong Christian leadership and coaching for Christian character. FWC has a record of success supporting students who aspire to play in college – our student-athletes are recruited by Division I, II and III schools across the country.

There’s room for everyone on the stage.

YOUR SUPPORT BRINGS THE ARTS TO LIFE ON CAMPUS. At FWC, we take the arts seriously, with the awareness that these disciplines offer students the opportunity to feel the excitement of creative realization and self-discovery, together with the satisfaction of sharing with others to enrich our community. Whether a novice or a highly experienced performer, every student is encouraged to grow and achieve excellence in performance through concerts, competitions, civic engagements, art shows, plays and outstanding musical productions in our state-of-the-art, 700-seat Performing Arts Center.

YOUR SUPPORT KEEPS CLASS SIZES SMALL SO OUR STUDENTS CAN THINK BIG. Our rigorous academic environment offers a balance of structure and freedom designed to help students develop essential writing, critical thinking, and study skills, along with an ambitious intellectual curiosity. Our class sizes are small (average size of 14), and our course selection is large (100 courses in the Upper School with 40 designated as Honors or Advanced Placement), which allows our students and teachers to follow wherever their curiosity may lead.

Big things happen when students pursue their passion.

YOUR SUPPORT PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM. Whether the training ground is in the classroom, on the playing field, or on the stage, a broad range of activities and opportunities are available to every student at FWC. Last year students participated in more than 20 clubs and explored a variety of diverse pursuits – from Robotics and Rodeo to Poetry and Praise Band. Students are empowered to take risks and try new experiences for the first time. Courage and curiosity are encouraged as students explore their options, discover new interests, and nurture their God-given gifts and talents.

Our students serve our campus, our community, and our world.

YOUR SUPPORT BROADENS THEIR HORIZONS. Service happens at each level and with increasing impact and variety during our annual Upper School Service Week where every student and staff member takes the week before Spring Break to serve locally, domestically or internationally. Students discover God at work in the world around us while serving single parents, at-risk youth, and emerging churches around the globe. Through the process of educating, equipping and gaining experience, we are transformed by an active faith.

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF TRUST

John Feray The 2018–2019 academic year was a productive one for Fort Worth Christian School. Our Head of School, Ken Cheeseman, took us through a robust strategic-planning process that involved more than 300 members of our community. With its culmination, we ushered in a renewed commitment to Christ-centered academic excellence and family engagement at FWC. Those two characteristics are what brought my family to Fort Worth Christian. Last spring, when my son graduated, I felt blessed to realize firsthand the impact of the Christ-centered education he received at FWC. It also reinforced for me the responsibility taken on by our Trustees, as stewards of this fine institution.

Throughout the strategic-planning process, one thing was very clear: when we cast our gaze to the future and take the long view, the signs bode well for what is to come. We see excellence and potential opportunities in programming, in our facilities, and in our faculty. As we Vision Forward, I am confident that the historical perspective, variety of expertise, and breadth of experience that makes up the Board of Trust provides a solid underpinning upon which to build an exciting future.

As Trustees, we like to think we fly at 30,000 feet — in order to see the school in its entirety. Even from a distance, what comes into sharp focus is that FWC has momentum; possibilities for new and enhanced programs abound. We look forward with great excitement to all that the Lord has in store for our school. On behalf of the Board of Trust, I want to assure you that we will make certain FWC continues to flourish as we take our next steps.

For now, as we reflect back on the 2018–2019 academic year, this Annual Report on Philanthropy seeks to recognize those who have helped us along the way.

Nothing that FWC does would be possible without the generosity of our families, grandparents, alumni, and friends — supporters who give so graciously to the Annual Fund, to capital projects around campus, and in a myriad of other ways.
