Children learn about many different animals as they play and create through a variety of fun and educational projects. Camp I and Camp II offer the same curriculum. Enrollment is limited. Kindergarten Science Camp is a special program that uses curriculum based on the Great Explorations in Math and Science (GEMS) research program from the University of California, Berkeley. Children explore the world of science with all the fun of summer camp! Camp I and Camp II offer the same curriculum. The activities are focused around four thematic units: “Up in a Tree” and “Ladybug Fly Away Home” for week one; the second week focuses on “Buzzing a Hive” and “Ant Homes Underground.” Science concepts of ecology, life cycles and animal social behavior are explored through exciting stories, active role-playing and creative projects.

Students use measurements and learn to make a few recipes a day that they can eat or take home. Each recipe ties in with literature and some are a work of art all on their own. This camp focuses on developing the fine motor skills necessary for academic success. Through a multisensory approach, students work on grip, pinch, strengthening and dexterity.

Handwriting, scissor skills and bilateral coordination are areas of focus. Other areas of development vital to school success are sensory and gross motor in nature. We will “play” strategically to work on balance, coordination, motor planning and eye-hand coordination. DeAnn Hall, former Creighton University player and current FWCD Varsity Softball Coach, leads this four-day softball skills camp. The camp focuses on all aspects of the sport, including, but not limited to, throwing, fielding, hitting, This one-week workshop trains incoming seniors in the art of bunting and base-running. There is also plenty of time to the personal essay. Using prompts for the current Apply Texas put those skills to work in game-like situations and quirky and Common Application college essay, students learn how water activities. Try your hand at the Softball Olympics or to craft a creative and compelling essay that best represents practice your sliding skills on the slip-in-slide on the last their strengths. The course comprises some instruction and day of camp. This is a great opportunity to get ready for examination of sample essays, brainstorming activities, the fast-pitch summer softball season and Little League and time for writing and coaching. The final requirement for All-Star tournaments. Coach Hall is assisted by current and the course is a one-on-one essay consultation and critique former FWCD players. RECEIVING CAMP Boys Only (Grades 3–8) May 30–June 2 12:30–3:30 p.m. $145

This camp is directed by Frank Gendusa, FWCD Head Football Coach.

Coach Gendusa has more than 35 years of coaching experience at the high school level and has a number of his former players in the NFL, including Peyton and Eli Manning. The camp’s coaching staff includes experienced high school coaches and players in the FWCD football program.

The camp is open to any young player who wants to learn about the game of football from the perspective of the positions listed below. A camper does not have to be a skill position player to participate in and enjoy this camp. The areas of instruction are Quarterbacks – grip, proper throwing motion, stance, exchange, drops, sprintout, play action, screens, ball-handling and option; Wide Receivers/Tight Ends – stance, starts, release, route-running, cuts, hand position and receiving; and Running Backs – stance, starts, ball-handling, ball security, route-running, play action and screens. Campers are grouped according to grade and ability. They need tennis shoes or cleats (preferred), a baseball hat and their own football (middle school size with their name on it.) Camp time is divided between field drills and indoor activities. Location: Football Field.

Boys Only (Grades 1–7) June 5–9 9 a.m.–noon $170 The FWCD baseball camp emphasizes the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, pitching and base-running. Players learn a variety of drills to help them excel at all levels of play and use these skills in gametype situations each day. The camp also stresses the most important aspect of playing baseball: having fun! Camp is led by Brady Benoit, FWCD Head Baseball Coach, and current FWCD players. Players need to bring their own gloves and bats.

Girls Only (Grades 3–8) June 5–9 9 a.m.–noon $170 This five-day field hockey camp is designed for the lower or middle school player. The camp takes place on the field hockey field. (Please bring tennis shoes for indoor instruction in the event of rain.) Players learn the fundamentals and improve their skills. There will be lots of games, treats and fun. The camp is led by Paige Chisholm, FWCD Field Hockey Program Director, and varsity and former FWCD players.

Mouth guards and sticks will be provided for those that need them. Players need to provide their own shin guards. Girls may wear tennis shoes or cleats, but cleats are recommended for the fields. Location: Field Hockey Field.

Players receive individual and group instruction with emphasis on skill development in pressure situations, essential tactical (decision-making) concepts and maximum participation.

Small-sided and conditioned game activities allow players to develop their technique, confidence and individual creativity in a fun and positive environment. Campers are grouped according to age and ability and need to provide their own ball, shin guards and water. Sibling discount is $85. #506 WORLD CLASS SPEED AND AGILITY CAMP

Boys/Girls (Grades 3–8) June 5–9 8:30 a.m.–noon $170 This camp is not track-specific, but is a comprehensive, co-ed speed and agility training course designed to build and/or enhance both linear and lateral speed by emphasizing stride length (the application of force to the ground) and frequency (the rate of turnover). Special emphasis is placed on proper sprinting mechanics, linking upper-body movements to the lower body through the core and creating perfect running form. This is a non-sport-specific, general speed and agility training course that emphasizes FUN. This camp is hosted and presented by FWCD first-year Track and Field Head Coach Jared Connaughton, who arrived in Texas, from Canada in the fall of 2003, as a scholarship athlete at the University of Texas-Arlington, where he was an 8-time Southland Conference Champion, 17 First Team All-Conference, 2006 SLC Athlete of the Year, and 5-time NCAA Mid-West AllAmerican. Coach Connaughton continued his athletic prowess as a member of Canada’s National Team, where he went on to represent his nation at the Pan-American Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Olympics

DALLAS MAVERICKS 2017 SUMMER HOOP CAMP Boys and Girls (Ages 8–18) July 3–7 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Kids always win at the Dallas Mavericks Hoop Camp, the only authentic NBA instructional camp in North Texas. Enrollment is limited to guarantee that each camper receives individual attention, and the player-to-coach ratio is under 10:1.

All campers are grouped by age and ability. Speakers and special guests, including Mavericks players and Mavs Man (subject to availability), appear at camp. SKOOLSPORTS USA FIELD HOCKEY CAMP July 26–28 Girls Only (Ages 4–7, Ages 8–18)

Skoolsports is back at FWCD July 26-28. They will again offer two camps, a junior camp (ages 4-7, seven hours) and a senior camp (ages 8-18, 14 hours).

Skoolsports USA offers players the opportunity to receive coaching from current Final Four college coaches and international female and male players/coaches. The junior camp introduces players to field hockey and teaches important development points in a safe and fun environment.

The senior camp includes skills sessions focusing on the key areas of the game to help prepare for the upcoming season.

There will be competitions, games, and question-and-answer sessions with current college coaches specifically with advice on applying for field hockey scholarships.

Skoolsports USA aims to create a quality learning environment that generates a willingness for athletes to learn and practice the skills and techniques required to improve their field hockey abilities. Our camps are designed with a fun element at their core, as we believe this creates the best environment for young players to improve and learn. Campers are given the tools to become an elite shooter through games and proper fundamental workouts.
