I was graduated from the collège de la Sainte famille in 1995.

Following my passion for the design industry in general and interior design as a profession in particular, I joined the college of applied arts where I have polished my skills through practice and knowledge until graduation in the year 2000.

The ten years that followed I have worked for several domestic design studios and multinational design firms.

• In 2010 I established FLAIR, A design studio providing tailored interior design solutions for residential, commercial, and hospitality projects.

A TOUR THROUGH THE FLAIR DESIGN PROCESS...

Over that past decade, we have managed to develop a process that runs through a series of interactive sessions to ensure a blueprint tailored to the client’s preferences. The process itself includes three key millstones; the schematic design where we set the concept and draw the broad lines including the conceptual layouts, color scheme, sample boards, etc.

Afterwards we proceed with the design development phase where the agreed upon concept is now mush more refined and tangible, the deliverables include-but not limited to-construction drawings and 3D visualization.

At last but not least, we provide the tender documentation including BOQs, manual of specifications, FF&E, etc. to ensure that all details are now well documented.

IS DESIGN AN ART OR SCIENCE… Well, it might be a quiet difficult question; but in fact, and from my point of view it's a combination of both. Interior design can be defined as an applied art where creativity, skills and technical knowledge provide solutions.

These solutions are applied to achieve a more convenient and valuable concept.

Interior design provides answers that are both functional and attractive or aesthetic and enhance the quality of life.

IS DESIGN A TREND OR AN IDENTITY… I believe that a good design should grasp a certain line or direction and should narrate a story. I think design is not a solid thing, it’s more like a fluid taking the shape of the surrounding cultural, economic and social surroundings.

That’s how trends usually emerge and we tend to go along with the current while maintaining our identity.

We are creating this townhouse setting design trends and introducing the latest materials, technologies and smart solution. We are not just celebrating 27 years, we are celebrating design in Egypt (Interior, Architecture, Landscape, Signage and Way Finding and Product Design).

In collaboration with some of Cairo’s finest suppliers & Mona Hussein Design House -MHDH- celebrating 27 years of design. Teamed up with creating amazing projects from residential, commercial, offices to medical and hospitality.

A design concept is one of the most challenging ideas that could encounter the mind. For a design to be different we believe it needs a one-of-a-kind, well-grounded idea that stands out in the vast world of designers. A townhouse concept of “turning a house into a lifetime home” is what we came up with after countless ideas, studies, designs observations and 25 years’ experience of work.

If we look close enough we’ll realize that regardless of who we are, what we do, what nationality we hold, where we live, We all have one thing in common which is an ongoing globular lifecycle revolving around 6 keywords “Marriage, Parenthood, Family-life, Teenage-hood, Adultness and finally Senescence” and so we came up with the concept of building a home designed by this lifecycle; the globular human lifecycle.

This concept of turning a house into a lifetime home involves so many ideas that we implemented in the design to achieve such a concept. Saint-Gobain operates in Egypt through 4 production lines; the glass line “Saint-Gobain Glassâ€?, gypsum “Saint-Gobain Gyprocâ€?, the ďŹ berglass insulation “Isoverâ€? was introduced this year along with the production of chemicals that are added to concrete and ďŹ nishing materials “Weberâ€?. Now, we’re launching this line for mirrors “MIRALITEÂŽâ€? and back-painted glass “PLANILAQUEÂŽâ€? which will serve interior ďŹ nishing and cladding.

In the Residential sector, we use colored highly reective glass “REFLECTASOLÂŽâ€? to reduce heat absorption and sunlight glare.

It mostly has a tint of color, and we need it here because it’s a sunny country and since privacy is necessary. The highest demand is on bronze, followed by grey, then green, and blue. In the commercial sector, the glass must be highly transparent and in huge areas to give better views. But the more glass you have in a building, the more heat you have inside; so we use high performance transparent glass “Ofine rangeâ€? with layers of insulation and a tint of color to prevent glare, but a slight one to enable more light in. We also put chemical additives that reduce heat gain, but which are transparent.

What’s your advice for homeowners and project developers when it comes to glass selection?

Mirrors are generally glass with a silver polished in metal layers to prevent silver oxidation. These metals mostly have percentages of copper or lead which negatively affect humans and the environment through the vapors they excrete. We use copper and lead-free imported paints. Generally, all Saint-Gobain products are environmentally-friendly; which helps us get tenders of projects that require sustainable materials, or which should be LEED-certiďŹ ed.

Sphinx Glass is one of the very few companies that implemented large height towers projects taking into consideration the effect of weather factors on the glass body, for Example “El Masa Hotel” in the administrative capital and the dimensions of the panels that were used were not produced in Egypt before this project as well as the high level of safety required by the quality of the glass that we used in most of the administrative capital projects, especially in The Ministerial District. The Beginning “Until 2010, Egypt was a net importer, but when the industry developed, the market became a net exporter” Since 2008 before the start of the Sphinx Glass Company production line, The products of the market in Egypt at that time were products of low-quality clear float glass and there were some merchants who monopolized the import of the rest of the types of glass.

Then we decided to make a production line with international specifications and high quality to raise the level of the market at that time and meet the needs of the Egyptian market and other Arab markets, then we followed this decision with a set of decisions, which is not to use contractors even if they were less expensive, instead we chose PPG, a global giant in the glass industry, for the technology and know-how.

Because we didn’t think in a traditional way, Sphinx Glass has acquired a license from PPG, an American Fortune 500 Company which allowed us to build a production line at the forefront of technology as well as to ensure a superior and continuous training to our workers and engineers. PPG license helped us maintain a strict quality standard to better position ourselves within the local and the export markets. Production started in 2010, and the local market started to picking up followed by export markets, and this was a boom not only for Sphinx Glass, but for the entire Egyptian market.
