Zomp has blessed us with its Summer ’18 campaign, previewing new season styles in a desert-inspired playground. Expect all the usual warm weather styles like slides, mules and sandals, appearing alongside chunky sneakers and patent leather stilettos. The updated Nike Air Force 1 has been made for women, by women. The Sage Low delivers a fresh take on the classic silhouette, thought up by a collective of female Nike designers who had free rein over the design. Bobby has introduced a new capsule collection, which stays true to its minimalist approach to leather handbags. Somewhat controversial, yes, but bike shorts are highly logical and now an equally high fashion staple. When leaving home sans bike is akin to forgetting your iPhone (as I stereotypically believe the Danish situation to be), practicality also comes into play. Classic black or neon pink: pair them with a blazer and ta-da. BILLOWING DRESSES

Thanks to labels like Ganni and Baum und Pferdgarten, looking like a glorified milkmaid has never been so *in*. We can have the beauty without the pain of lugging dairy-filled pails (#winning). Embrace your feminine side by indulging in a touch of floral; experiment as one statement dress can be worn endless ways. Style it back with a pair of un-sexy (and divisive) dad sneakers or take it to the country with cowboy boots and tassels. Stand pretty as the street photographers flock. THONGS

AKA Havaianas are back. No need to freak out. Let your inner Aussie beach bum cheer as it has *finally* become acceptable to wear a pair of rubber thongs in public, sans bikini. Don’t lie to me: I know you have a pair patiently awaiting their high fashion debut. I believe the current form of Instagram, whether you love or hate it, has seen two iconic fashion eras pass through its feed. Number 1: The Reign of The French. Number 2: The Danish Revolution. We were once privy to the juicy red lips of Jeanne Damas, Jacquemus miniskirts and an overall laissez-faire approach to life. Arguably, this influence remains strong as I continue to crave an existence of croissants, espresso shots, wine and glorious cheese. But in 2018, a new kid arrived on the block. This kid showed up with her vibrant style and alluring aesthetic, conflicting with the minimalist, bougie life I once sought. My curated feed of demure inspiration quickly became the breeding ground of vibrant colour, billowing dresses and somewhat questionable sneaker choices. Gingham returned in full force, along with an army of scrunchies, barrettes and neon. The Danes officially came and conquered the ’gram. While my feed is now akin to a bag of Allen’s – sweet, sugary colour everywhere – one significant stressor arises. How does one flip their understated, well-curated, French-inspired

wardrobe into the bold and vibrant image of the Danes (and fast)? Never fear. Here are some super versatile, quick and easy wardrobe additions that will have you instantly blending in with the new girls we love the most. HAIR CLIPS

Add some simple bling to your hair à la every cool Danish girl on the street. If you're a hoarder, I applaud your abilities and trust you already have a few clips lying around from their mid-’90s heyday. Long live the butterfly clip. Try one to the side, indulge in the double-whammy, or adorn that precious head of yours with any number you please. The more the merrier, I say. SCRUNCHIES

As above, raid your old drawers and dig through the dregs of the dress-up box. A hidden gem in the form of a scrunchie is sure to be found. Failing that, hit up your local market where individuals have quickly cottoned on to the lucrative trend. Or, even better, DIY.

And if that’s not enough, try getting creative with a silk scarf, or switch your leopard print to tiger. Purchasing an uber cool bike is also a must. There is no such thing as overdoing it. The most important question still remains, however. What will be next? Before you upend your entire wardrobe and invest in a lifelong supply of rye bread, take a breather. As we’re adapting pieces from various regions around the world, we’re also forming a new style of our own. Are we starting a new nation, nay, a new culture? One that transcends geography and is instead an all-inclusive interpretation? It’s the whatever-the-hell-we-want approach. Because – as appears to have become my life’s mantra – you do you. I’m not French, but I’ll wear a sexy slip. I’m not Danish, but I’ll ride that Ganni horse until it’s well and truly dead. And, while I’m at it, I’ll slip in a few Cuban-style holiday shirts and Japanese denim. Who’s with me?

Was there a particularly draining flight you can recall? T: Me and Ellie had one flight, it wasn’t draining, but we decided to both change our lives when we got off. Or said we were going to. But that was like seven or eight red wines in (laughs). That’s my favourite and also least favourite flight and period of my life. Any favourite lyrics from the album? E: I like the lyrics in ‘After The Zero Hour’ and I like the lyrics in ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’. And all the rest are fucking shit to be honest (laughs). I like them all, I mean I think Visions Of A Life is a weird one because it was, as I was saying, like a mixture of songs.

Wolf Alice, the four-piece rock band from North London, expresses a gritty, unapologetic attitude. Fronted by lead singer Ellie Rowsell, and backed by guitarist Joff Oddie, bassist Theo Ellis and drummer Joel Amey, the group has spent the last few years gearing towards a second release. Visions Of A Life is the 12-track culmination of Wolf Alice’s journey since its debut record My Love Is Cool in 2015. The album is packed with a combination of sounds, from synth-pop to heavier punk tunes that those on either side of the rock spectrum will enjoy. Having just stepped off the stage from their Aussie shows, Ellie and Theo set aside some time to chat with us about their newest release. After the wildfire success of the band’s debut record, My Love Is Cool, did you feel the need to push yourselves creatively with album number two? Theo: Yeah. I mean, I think we always want to push ourselves creatively with whatever we do. The producer we worked with, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, helped us to do that. He helped us to explore. We played with more things, like synthesisers and stuff, and some experimental sounds on the record. So, that was pushing ourselves. As musicians, I think we pushed ourselves.

The lead single, ‘Yuk Foo’ is a fiery anthem with heavy guitar riffs and in-your-face lyrics. Can you describe your thought process when writing the track? Ellie: I think we wanted something that was abrasive, something that would be fun to play. I guess it kind of takes the structure and simplicity of punk tunes, but I think it’s a little bit more electronic than that. We’ve got quite a few synths in there, because often that sounds beefier than just guitars and base. It’s just a bit of fun really. Another interesting song is ‘Sky Musings’, which manifests the feeling of existential dread on a longhaul flight. Do you both get a lot of writing done on planes? E: (Laughs) I mean, you have a lot of time to think. So not writing perhaps but a lot of thoughts. It’s quite a weird but good place to think. But I don’t know if I’ve written anything coherent.

Back in 2016, you helped curate the Bands 4 Refugees project. Can you talk us through the band’s involvement? E: Well it was kind of a standalone event in a way. There’s an organisation, they work all across Europe, and they help refugees. Every Christmas, they try to get different people to do the campaigns in order to raise money for their organisation. I vaguely know one of the girls [who runs the company], so I had gone to her saying I wanted to put on a night or something with an aim of raising money for her thing. We kind of just worked together to make something that was not only raising money, but hopefully raising awareness. And also, what we consider to be the right way to look at the whole situation, because I think the media at the time was a bit… you know. T: Yeah there was a lot of really terrible, terribly negative news coverage. In today’s climate, how important is it to use your platform to address important political issues? T: I think it’s very valuable. Quite a lot of people are influenced by people with platforms – you know, models, musicians, actors. If you have the ability to, not shape someone’s opinion but influence or present new ideas they haven’t seen yet or heard about, then it’s an amazing thing. But then again it’s also very difficult to manage that power because you as a person can feel conflicted or nervous or like you don’t have enough information to make a valid comment. So, it’s tricky. But it’s definitely very important nowadays to say what you feel. Unless what you feel is very right-winged and terrible.

Contraception is no longer limited to just the pill or condoms. Yet despite the alternatives, only around one-third of Australian women research their choices. So for those in search of their perfect contraceptive partner, we chatted to Sexual & Reproductive Health Specialist at Marie Stopes Australia, Dr Catriona Melville, to get the low down on all the options.

The Pill

A super popular choice, the combined oral contraceptive pill contains oestrogen and progestogen, primarily working to inhibit ovulation. Dr Melville suggests starting with a pill containing 30mcg of oestrogen in a fixed daily dose. “It’s important to give any new method at least three to six months to see how you feel as short-term side effects such as nausea and breast tenderness often settle within this timescale.”

The Hormonal IUD releases small quantities of progestogen directly into your reproductive system. The contraceptive – which thickens your cervical mucous so sperm can’t move – is also used to treat heavy periods. “It usually makes your periods very light and short, or they stop temporarily, while you are using the method. This is not harmful and doesn’t affect your fertility,” explains Dr Melville. Plus, this IUD may be associated with a reduced risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer.

“It’s the most reliable hormone-free method of reversible contraception and is ideal for women who can’t have (or don’t want to use) hormones,” explains Dr Melville. Unlike the Hormonal IUD, this one releases low levels of copper ions to stop sperm moving properly and fertilised eggs from implanting in the uterine wall. On the downside, this method can increase period cramps or bleeding. If your period’s already difficult, consult a doctor before committing.

If you’re on the fence between The Pill or an IUD/ Implant, the Vaginal Ring might be for you. It’s a thin band that slowly releases the same combined hormonal composition as The Pill. You’ll insert the ring into your vagina by hand, swapping it every three weeks. “The Ring’s helpful if you have a medical condition which causes issues with gut absorption, as the hormones are absorbed through the vaginal wall,” says Dr Melville.“It has a similar failure rate to the pill.”

Monitoring your fertility isn’t a reliable way of preventing pregnancy. “The effectiveness is very low and you need to be highly motivated and organised to use [successfully]. At least 25 pregnancies will occur in 100 women in one year using these methods,” says Dr Melville. These approaches calculate your fertile period (the days you’re at risk of pregnancy) so to use effectively, only have unprotected sex outside of those days. This may mean abstaining for several weeks a month or using other contraception.

The opposite to its male counterpart, the female condom wraps the inside of the vaginal canal to create a barrier and can be a bit tricky to get the hang of. You may want to use lube or a sex toy to help get it in and will need to watch out for slippage between the outside of the sheath and vagina. When used effectively, however, it’s 95 per cent effective, and can also be combined with other methods to help prevent STIs.

Add the fact it’s talc-free, and you’re onto a winner.

NARS’ Albatross Highlighter needs no introduction. Having been a staple in my makeup bag for years now, I’m really yet to find a subtle highlighter that tops it. A touch of the powder to the cheek bones and cupid’s bow adds radiance to the face without being OTT, and I love that it’s sans glitter. You can also build this one up for a bolder shine, making it the perfect product for every look.

I’m always up for new ways to improve my quality of life. Who isn’t? And while I may have first been grabbed by Ikigai’s cute cover, the promise of learning the ‘Japanese secret to a long and happy life,’ quickly drew me in. The hardcover walks readers through the practice of Ikigai, which de Surany explains roughly translates to ‘the feeling that your life makes sense’. It promises to refresh your life in just 12 weeks, guiding you through a series of exercises, quizzes and games. While at times this read erred on the side of a slightly immature selfhelp book, there’s weight to what de Surany’s teaching. Even if you don’t intend on following these lessons, Ikigai still offers a reminder to do more of what makes you happy.

If the success of Cardi B is anything to go by, it’s clear that a questionable background in reality TV has no impact on a career in rap. And in all honesty, this 15-track mixtape is pretty good. Look, ‘Gucci Flip Flops’ is no ‘Foreva’; it’s missing the memorable, cutting lines that Cardi is so good at. If this teen rapper is aiming for commercial success, we’re probably going to need more than tired lines about dripping in diamonds. Guest spots from noted rappers like Ty Dolla $ign and Lil Yachty lend an air of legitimacy, but Bhabie’s outshone when City Girls feature on ‘Yung and Bhad’. That being said, she’s still so young, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Bhad Bhabie may just hit the heights yet.

Dolci, With Love isn’t just another cookbook, but a journey through the Italian way of life. Promising 51 traditional recipes from the motherland, the book makes difficult desserts look rather simple. Reducing most methods to less than 10 steps, even first-time cooks will feel confident in the kitchen. Divided into sections ranging from Pastries & Sweet Treats, to a whole segment dedicated to tiramisu, Dolci, With Love leaves no dessert untouched. Filled with beautiful imagery of the Italian coastline, it also makes a very pleasing coffee table book for the culinary-challenged. But don’t be intimidated, if you’ve ever wanted to impress the family with homemade cannoli, now’s the perfect time to try. I recommend having a go with an Aperol Spritz in hand – like a true Positano local.

Detailing the lives of history’s most remarkable women, What Would Boudicca Do? isn’t the first release of its kind – nor will it be the last. But that doesn’t mean this book isn’t worth picking up. Shining a spotlight on Sappho, Rosa Parks, Dorothy Parker and more, readers are not only informed of each woman’s journey, but the lessons we can take from them. You’ll explore tales of standing up for what you believe in and breaking the status quo in chapters like ‘Frida Kahlo and Finding Your Style’ and ‘Coco Chanel and Killing It At Work’. While at points the book’s tone can feel a little immature, these short stories are a great reminder of how talented, determined and strong females can be.

You’ll either know MØ for her solo work, or have heard her voice on collaborations with Justin Bieber, Major Lazer, Diplo, Snakehips, Charli XCX, Noah Cyrus and more. Either way, you’re about to hear even more of the Danish singer-songwriter with this excellent second album. Featuring a solid collection of slick pop tracks perfect for late summer nights, this is a celebratory collection of songs about escaping your problems and embracing life with all your energy and passion, no matter how imperfect it may seem. Her collab with Diplo, ‘Sun In Our Eyes’, may be the lead single but for me, ‘Beautiful Wreck’ is the one on repeat.

This experimental album – which plays as a continuous piece of psychedelic electro-art – is one for the more ambitious listeners out there, but spectacular nonetheless. The soundscape is hauntingly beautiful, written during a period of Tom Krell’s self-described “cosmic loneliness” following Trump’s election to power. This album was his anteroom, or space between the precipice of loneliness and a more stable life of security and certainty. At a time when we’re witnessing huge shifts in the relationship between personal and political power, it’s emotional to listen to. Harnessing insecurity in such an artful way, it has an impact that can’t be put into words, so perhaps just listen, and cry.
