Fundación Hélice, as an initiative of the Andalusian Regional Government, was created to materialize the Aerospace sector promotion and to articulate the means to strength the Andalusian Aerospace Cluster. Joining efforts together with social and private stakeholders involved in the Aerospace business, the Foundation holds the cluster representation and participates on behalf of it. Therefore one of the goals of Fundación Hélice is to foster the development of the aeronautical industry in Andalusia by presenting its technology and capabilities on both the Spanish and International markets. To that end, over the last few years Fundación Hélice has published a statistical study of this industry and the Foundation’s annual report, both on a yearly basis, as well as a quarterly journal entitled “Aeronáutica Andaluza”. Although these publications are of unquestionable value for increasing familiarity with the sector, the Foundation has decided to publish another document of reference describing the technologies, projects and capabilities of the main companies operating in Andalusia. We are referring to the first edition of this CATALOGUE, which is intended to supplement and summarise our other publications.
Prologue
The timing of this CATALOGUE is also significant for a number of reasons. First of all, we will soon be seeing a new edition of the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget, the most important exhibition of its kind, where we will be showing an audiovisual presentation of the key components of our industry. The CATALOGUE will be an ideal supplement and reminder of that presentation. Secondly, in Andalusia we are involved in different stages of three major aeronautical programmes (A380, A400M, A350) that will certainly represent a turning point for this field. Some significant examples are the creation of Alestis, the first Tier 1 supplier in Andalusia, and the CATEC technology centre, which was promoted by the Agency of Innovation and Development of Andalusia IDEA and the main aeronautical corporations. And finally the financial downturn has let its impact so far only in terms of the reduced availability of the working capital so badly needed for the Aerospace activity. And that is all. We hope that this CATALOGUE fulfils its purpose and thank all the companies involved for their collaboration and patience while we collected the data and created the audiovisual presentation. Aerópolis The Aerospace Technology Park of Andalusia, Aerópolis, is an initiative of the Regional Government to foster the aerospace sector in the region by providing a single area for its entire industries with the ability to provide advanced services. Strategically located by Seville airport and the Airbus Military FAL which is developing the assembly project for the A400M military transport aircraft, Aerópolis primarily aims to provide financial and technological support for small and medium-sized Andalusian aeronautical companies in order to increase their competitiveness so that they can undertake major projects in the community.
