FUMC Girl Scouts Troop 43088 by Inge Poole, Troop Leader

FUMC's sponsorship of Girl Scout Troop 43088 allows twenty-four girls aged kindergarten through 5th grade to make new friends, serve the community, learn new skills, and build their talents. In its fifth year, the troop has enjoyed exploring a theme each year (e.g., oceans across 2014). Traditional Skills This year, the troop is focusing on the theme of traditional skills. The group will be taking a closer look at knitting, sewing, papermaking, basket weaving, canning and other traditional skills the girls may not be exploring with their families or at school. The troop hopes to have guest visitors both at meetings and/or at a couple of Saturday crafting days to demonstrate and help teach these important skills. If you would like to share a skill or talent with the troop, they would be delighted to have you join them! Veterans' Day Parade In building respect for traditions, the troop would also like to participate in the Jackson's first Veterans' Day Parade scheduled for Saturday, November 7th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (The Jackson Sun shared information about the parade in the September 13th paper on page B1.) The troop would like to meet FUMC veterans, learn about their service, and invite them to ride on a float, "Generations of Glory," that would feature military service from multiple engagements/ periods of time. To create a float, the troop would need someone to offer a trailer to decorate and drive it for the parade. In fact, the girls could use help with all stages of preparation and would appreciate individuals with float experience to help them with this project. If you would be willing to share your military service and/or help create a float, the troop would be completely grateful! Please contact Inge Poole, 225-5053 or gstroop43088@ yahoo.com to volunteer.

This is another great book by Max Lucado! This book focuses on Joshua and the Hebrews wandering in the desert when they could have been in their glory land. Have you ever felt that way... looking for direction? Even if you're familiar with this story, the way Lucado writes about it brings it to life. He shares practical scriptures with us and gives us the tools to live a more fulfilling, joy filled Christian life and walk.
