SPRING GARDEN PLOT PLAN Use this grid to make a rough layout of your garden. Be sure you note the size of the plants when they are mature and use that information for the years to come. It’s easy to forget just how large those tiny seedlings can become and space the plants accordingly

Notes:

Prepare the Ground for Planting. The first time the plot is to be used for a garden, blend with the soil about 1 cubic yard of organic material—that’s 27 cubic feet for every 300 square feet of area. The deeper you can mix it, the better. A rototiller is best, but the old fashioned shovel still works well. In subsequent years, one cubic yard for every 400 square feet should be fine. A couple of weeks after the organic materials have been mixed in, you may want to do a pH test. If the results show that your soil is too acidic, add lime; if too alkaline, add sulfer. The ideal pH for a garden is about 6.0. Take the time to measure the area of your garden and lawn and write it down here.
