¬ trains 철도 There are three systems “Nishitetsu”, “Subway”, and “JR”. The subway links the two city centers, Tenjin and Hakata to the Airport. Take “Nishitetsu” to visit sites such as Dazaifu or Yanagawa. Take “JR” to travel outside Fukuoka to Nagasaki, Beppu and the new Kyushu Shinkansen to Kagoshima. 후쿠오카 시내 철도는 크게 ‘니시테츠 전철’ ‘지하철’ ‘JR’로 나뉜다. 지하철은 공항과 시내 중심가인 하카타, 텐진을 이어준다. 다자이후나 야나가와 등 관광지는 ‘ 니시테츠 전철’를 이용하면 편리하다. 나가사키, 벳푸, 가고시마 등 후쿠오카현 외의 지역을 방문하거나 신칸센을 탄다면 ‘JR’을 이용하자.
¬ Buses 버스 Go almost anywhere aboard Nishitetsu Bus in Fukuoka City! Rates vary by distance, but are just ¥100 within the ¥100 Bus area (see p. 4 ~ 5 yellow area) including Hakata Sta., Su-miyoshi, Yakuineki-mae, Tenjin and Gofukumachi. Board using the middle doors and get off using the front door. Pay as you get off. 버스 뒷문으로 타고, 앞쪽의 문으로 내린다. 운임은 내릴 때 지불.
How to ride 버스 타는 방법 ● Check the destination on the front and side displays of the bus’s exterior. Board via the center doors. ● If paying cash, take a ticket as you board. If you have a nimoca IC card wave it over the sensor, ticket not required. ● Bus stops and fees are displayed on the monitor next to a driver. The fee appears under the ticket number. ● Fees are displayed on the monitor above the driver. Match your ticket number to get your fee. ● Push the stop button to alert the driver that you want to get off at the next stop. ● Drop the fee and your ticket into the box next to the driver and get off from the front door. If you need change, drop cash into the box next to the driver. When you are using nimoca, wave your card above the sensor. ● 버스가 오면 전면이나 승차구 옆의 전광판에 떠 있는 행선지 번호를 확인하고 목적지에 가는 버스가 오면 가운데 문으로 승차한다 ● 현금으로 운임을 지불할 경우에는 승차시에 정리권을 뽑는다. IC카드 [nimoca]를 갖고 있을 때에는 승차 구의 단말기에 카드를 터치한다 (이 경우에는 정리권이 필요 없음). ● 정차하는 버스 정거장 이름과 운임은, 수시로 운전사 옆의 모니터에 표시된다. 갖고 있는 정리권 번호 아래에 표시 되어 있는 것이 운임이다. ● 목적지 버스 정거장 이름이 모니터에 표시 되고 안내방송이 흐르면 하차 버튼을 누른다. ● 운전사 옆의 박스에 정리권과 정확한 금액의 운임을 넣고, 앞 쪽의 출구로 하차한다. 돈을 바꿔야 할 때에는 동전교환기를 이용하자. (거스름돈이 지급되지 않으므로 미리 동전을 교환해야 한다). nimoca를 갖고 있을 경우에는 내리는 문의 nimoca 단말기에 카드를 터치한다.

any wealthy merchants flourished in Hakata during the Sengoku period (approx. 1467–1568), but the fortunes they amassed made the area a military target and repeated attacks saw much of it burnt to the ground. However, in 1587 Toyotomi Hideyoshi allied with local merchants to revive the area as a major commercial hub. The main street of that time became a focus of further reconstruction work following World War II, when it was expanded to a width of 50m and renamed Taihaku-dori, which roughly translates to “Hakata’s Main Street”. It stretches 1.8 km from Hakata Station to Fukuoka Sun

Palace and is a great starting point for any Hakata adventure. Along the east side of Taihaku-dori is Gokushomachi. This historical area contains many shrines and temples, including Japan’s oldest Zen temple, Shofukuji, which was built in 1195. Nearby Tochoji temple is also worth checking out for its 10.8-meter-tall 30t Buddha statue and hexagonal hall. For a further “taste” of Japanese history, head across the river to the Katakusa area, where you’ll find the sake brewery Hakata Hyakunengura. Dating from the early Meiji period, the elegant building stands out from its urban surroundings.
more info online! 전국시대에 많은 거상이 활약했던 하카타에는 엄청난 자본이 모여들었기 때문에 무사들의 표적이 되었고 몇 차례의 전쟁을 겪으며 전성기 때의 모습을 잃고 말았다. 하지만 1587년에 도요토미 히데요시와 하카타 상인들이 실시한 복 구 계획 덕분에 거리가 정비되며 근세 도시 하카타로 되살아나게 된다. 이때 만들어진 길을 확장한 것이 지금의 다이하쿠도오리 (大博通り). ‘하카타의 대로( 大通り)’에서 유래한 명칭이다. 다 이 하 쿠 도 오 리 동 쪽, 고쿠쇼마치에는 절과 신사가 많다. 일본 최초의 선종사원 e 쇼후쿠지에서는 복구 계획 실시 때에 만들어진 토담을 비롯해 위엄 있는 정문을 볼 수 있다. 도쵸지의 후쿠오카 대불과 롯카쿠도도 유명하다. 다음으로 ‘하카타 햐쿠넨구라’. 메이지 초기에 지어진 운치있는 주조장이 시선을 잡아끈다. 하카타의 현대와 과거가 공존하는 곳. 메이지 시대~쇼와 초기의 다이하쿠도오리는 하카타 역의 옛 역사와 각종 상사, 하카타 다이마루 백화점 등이 모인 시내 제일의 비즈니스가였다. 1951년에는 덴야마치에 많은 문화인들이 사랑했던 ‘카페 브라질레이루’가 이전했다. 주변에서 근무하는 직장인들에게 사랑받아왔고, 지금도 향수를 불러 일으키는 분위기와 커피를 즐기려는 손님들로 북적인다. 현재에도 많은 비즈니스맨들이 다이하쿠도오리를 오고 가며 하카타에 활기를 불어넣고 있다. 올해 3월에는 JR하카타시티가 오픈 하는 등 한시라도 눈을 뗄 수 없는 곳이다.

In 1951, Café Brasileiro, beloved hangout of novelists such as Ashihei Hino and Kyusaku Yumeno, moved into the area and has been a favorite of local business men and women ever since. From merchants to businessmen, Hakata’s economic movers and shakers have long been drawn to Taihaku-dori. The successful opening of the JR Hakata City building in March suggests it will continue to thrive into the future too.

utumn menus have been introduced at ELLE CAFÉ this month and you are sure to welcome the seasonal shift with the delicious selection on offer. Before we go into any more detail about the food, though, let’s meet this month’s guest. Though Gina Whittle has a hectic schedule as a company manager, she eagerly invests her spare time in learning more about cooking. Even on her lunch break, her eyes are peeled for new ingredients or recipe ideas that she can use. Originally from New Zealand, Gina first visited Japan when she was 19 year old. After working as a model and part-time teacher at a university, she established her own company, Gina & Partners, facilitating educational exchanges between New Zealand, Australia and Japan. She strongly believes in the importance of experiencing different cultures holistically, rather than travelling abroad just

This religious festival, held every Autumn, lasts three days. It originated in 1634 when two female performers dedicated a new dance to the Suwa Shrine. The dance is now registered as a national cultural asset. You will see the dance, called “Niwasakimawari”, at several spots in town.
World famous ukulele musician launched his "Aloha for Japan" tour to celebrate his 10th anniversary as a soloist. The act was planned so that the audience feels like they are part of the show. Jake went back to basics on his July 2010 album, “I ♥ UKULELE” and you'll surely notice his new style.

나카스 축제
나가사키 쿤치
환락가로 써, 유명한 나카스에서 개최되는 올해로 36회를 맞이하는 축제 총400명의 여성이 핫피를 입고 머리를 꼬아 머리띠 한 모습으로 가마를 메고, 네온사인이 반짝거리는 나카스 일대를 행진하는 여자 가마가 유명하다. 첫날에 개최되는 매년 대호평의 나카스하시코 술도 놓칠 수 없다. 축제의 열기와 나카스의 활기를 함께 체험 할 수 있는 이벤트를 즐기자.
칸 에이 시대 11년 두명의 유녀가 스와신사에 소무(극에서 추는 짧은 춤)를 봉납한 것이 시작이라고 알려진 나가사키를 대표하는 가을 대축제이다. 현재는 이국의 정취가 많이 흡수된 호화스러운 제례로써 국가 지정 주요 무형문화제로도 지정 되어있다. 시내 곳곳에서 복을 나누며 거리를 다니는 모습을 볼 수 있다.

Hakaya Tomyo Watching
This monthly event gives exchange students a chance to learn about Japanese culture. A lecture by a local businessman, politician or academic is followed by a talk from the young people on their cross-cultural experiences. The intercultural mixer afterwards is a great chance to meet people.
Inspired by the ancient Senyomyo (thousand lights) ceremony, this festival sees the Hakata area fantastically illuminated with sacred lanterns known as tomyo. Artistic arrangements will be created across a wide area including Hakata Sta. Square and Kushida Shrine. Free buses will cover the area.

하카타에서 옛날부터 행해지고 있는 천등 불 을 지금도 이어받아 올해로 개최 17회를 맞이하는 정서 넘치는 축제. 하카타 지역의 거리를 환상적인 불꽃이 비치고, 하카타 역 앞 광장과 쿠시타 신사 약 7곳에는 거대한 지상 그림도 떠오른다. 학생들의 창작등불 콘테스트를 시작해 각 지역 다양한 행사가 열린다. 지역은 광범위하므로, 무료로 운행하는 버스를 이용하자.

You can enjoy nature’s fall colors, the longer nights, and the dining experiences that only Fukuoka offers. The selection of minitours includes the Ichiba Yokamon Meguri walking tour of Yanagibashi Market, Hakata’s kitchen; Hakata Bijin ni Daihenshin, an evening walking tour for those dressed in kimono; and tours to try Zen meditation with a sushi bento bonus. Fees vary and available for all through the year. Pamphlets are distributed at City Hall, all ward offices, and tourism centers in Tenjin and Hakata. The Chikugo River provides roughly one-third of the water used in the Fukuoka City metropolitan area. There will be a tour of the Chikugo River on traditional houseboat to coincide with the Chikugo-gawa Festival in Kurume to promote exchange in the river area. The tour will also include a trip to Chikugo Ozeki, a dam controlling the river waters. It’s the perfect opportunity to learn about the environment while enjoying the festival. ● Oct. 22 (Sat.), 8:30 ~ 16:30 ● Admission: ¥1,000. Children in ES younger must be accompanied by a parent. This hands-on event can be enjoyed by people of all ages while learning about the environment. There are upwards of 50 booths, including classes for making eco-bags and eco-candles, and paper pressing artwork using recycled paper. The stage events include a fashion show with recycled clothing, a performance by the Fire Department band, and a workshop for making musical instruments from discarded materials.
