PREZ SAYS positive and kept thinking “we have to make this work for our kids,” but the reality came with the obvious of the daily changes.

We kept referring to our motto, “Responsible Motorcyclist” and the decision was made.

Moving forward, we are working on a plan to have some type of presentation for our youth and will be announcing this in the near future. All the class winners will be mailed their jackets and the trophies with be available at the upcoming races.

BEHIND THE SCENES I will start out by saying, ‘Where do I start”. There has been so much going on for the last several months that it is almost like a bad dream. The uncertainty of anything is front and center in our daily lives and the fact that it is not letting up has a lot of us experiencing some sleepless nights.

One in particular was the pain of canceling our banquet. The pure agony that led up to the decision was enough to put a couple years on all of us. We waited hoping that things would turn around and we could enjoy our biggest event of the year with the plans already set in motion.

I know the Executive Committee was in constant communications with all possibilities and the question of “what if” or how can we negotiate all this. The uncertainty that was changing daily reminded me of back in the day, when we had real mud events and each lap that you made was a completely different trail than the previous lap. We kept

There will probably be some requirements in place at our events but our events will happen. I hope that most of you have been getting out and keeping the blood flowing as it doesn’t take long to lose your timing, cardio and sharpness.

Our VP Pete Rose and myself took a weekday morning (we both write the schedules at our day job) and went for a tour of the facility.

We spent the morning talking about the revamping of the en-

tire facility. Besides offering trails for all OHVs, they will be putting in single track for bikes only! The owner rides, races and understands what we like and has an open mind to offer something for everyone. We have been asked for input and will be helping with the design of these trails as he looks to open in October. So keep an eye out on Facebook for more details.

I have been hitting Croom every weekend since the re-opening and even sometimes in the afternoon during the week (here’s that schedule thing again). We could have a race with all the FTR folks that have been showing up, but thank goodness nothing has been organized yet.

LOL I don’t know if this is off the chart or not, but picking my riding buddies up at 5:15am on the side of the road and doing the 2.5 hour drive to Croom, just to pour sweat from getting dressed is normal or not, but until someone calls me out on it count me in for some seat time.

I hope all my FTR friends and families are doing okay under the circumstances and I look forward to hearing the “TEN SECONDS” very soon.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 You all have heard the words “mercy and grace”. We hear them yet we may not know what they mean or the differences between them. Regarding our

Imagine standing before a judge after being convicted of a serious crime. The judge issues a severe sentence then shows you mercy by immediately pardoning you. You deserved the sentence; the judge showed mercy by not handing it down.

When you accept Jesus as your Savior, this is exactly what happens. Because of our

sinful nature, the only thing we deserve is eternal separation (hell) from a Holy and perfect God. Yet Jesus paid the sentence for us by taking our sins to the cross and dying for us that we may live. He proved He is the Son of God by rising from the dead three days later. The same promise that awaits those who believe in Him (John 3:16) Grace is what He gives those who believe in Him. Grace is giving us what we don’t deserve.

We don’t deserve the love, friendship, guidance, strength and blessings given to us from Jesus. Because He loves us so much, He pours out those gifts over and over again and there is nothing we can ever do to that will change His heart. An eternal promise, His love will never end!

HILL & HILL: ATTORNEYS AT LAW You may have seen the Hill brothers roaming the pits at any given FTR race over the last 15 years, but did you know they are owners of their own law firm? Tommy, 28, and Danny, 25, opened up Hill & Hill Attorneys at Law, PLLC in June. “We wanted to open up our own firm because of the flexibility and we didn’t want to work the way normal law firms function,” says Tommy, who

graduated from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2017, “We’re people people, we wanted to create a law firm where people receive the attention they deserve.”

Hill & Hill is located in Orange City and specializes in Real Estate, Landlord/ Tenant Law, Business Law, Estate Planning, and Civil Litigation. “Real Estate has always played a big role in our family,” says Danny, who graduated from the University of Florida’s Law Program FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS

in 2019, “With real estate its not a hostile experience, we get to use creative means to resolve issues and help people buy property, it’s very rewarding.”

Although the firm just recently opened the Hill brothers have been hard at work in order to get this thing off the ground. “The hardest part was spending the money to get it going, when we had no money coming in,” says Tommy.

Luckily with the help of fellow FTR member Kent Ashby, Hill & Hill was able to get its website and social media pages rolling and began to gain new clientele.

For Danny, being a lawyer was always the plan, “I remember at a young age watching TV thinking, dang, those lawyers are big shots, I want to be a lawyer.” For Tommy It wasn’t so cut and dried, it wasn’t until a couple years into undergrad that he knew what he wanted to do.

“I didn’t have a whole lot of direction on what I wanted to pursue as a career,” says Tommy, “I ended up taking a

Business Law class that was interesting to me, I had a talk with my parents and decided to pursue it.”

The boys first got involved in FTR in 2004 and raced each year consistently, that is until law school came around.

While both Tommy and Danny made it out to a few select races during those years, they admit it was hard to keep up with. “For me it was really hard, I think I would only make three or four races a year at that time,” says Tommy “I ended up racing bicycles more because I could practice every day without having to travel.”

For Danny, the races were a way for him to clear his mind of the stress that comes with being a full-time law student, “I took school very seriously, I was really stressed out and at the end of a hare scramble when you’re struggling you get to forget about having to go back to school on Monday.”

From the Track to the Trees with Shawn Clark

Shawn Clark airs it out at the Melon Bash 5 in Punta Gorda, FL - Photo by Jamey Perdue (Photoman386) “I think I was born with a dirtbike in the garage” says Shawn Clark, when asked about how he got his start. The southern Indiana native started riding at three-years-old and would begin racing shortly thereafter. Shawn got his start riding motocross and was a talented rider from a young age.

He made his first trip to the world-famous Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National at age seven and would return ten more times before his amateur motocross career was finished. Although, Shawn never won a title at “The

Ranch” he finished runner-up multiple times to riders like Davi Millsaps, Josh Lichtle and Broc Hepler and mixed it up with James Stewart and Ryan Sipes on several occasions.

Shawn first got his start in the professional ranks in 2004 with Team Green, a Kawasaki supported venture. Growing up in Indiana meant snowy winters, not exactly the dream scenario for a motocross rider. Due to the weather Shawn spent a lot of time racing barn races, which featured tight turns and aggressive tactics.

With his experience on the tighter tracks Shawn decided to start off in the AMA Arenacross series.

At his first ever AMA Arenacross race Shawn led the majority of the main event until a crash with a few laps to go caused him to place fifth. He was still able to turn some heads and the next year he received a full ride with Kawasaki to compete in arenacross.

Shawn was not your traditional pro motocross rider. He started out in the arenacross ranks before trying his hand at supercross, at the time that was the opposite way of doing things.

Shawn also attended public high school while he was racing pro, which is virtually unheard of.

“I ended up dislocating my shoulder seven times and had to have three surgeries to try and fix it, I would not have been riding anyway.�

This limited which races he could attend, so he kept his focus on arenacross. In 2006, Shawn would go on to win the AMA Arenacross Lites championship.

After his title, at the ripe age of 20, and in his prime, Shawn decided to step away from racing professionally. “I’ve always had a really strong faith,” says Shawn, “I just felt like God was calling me to step away.” Although Shawn says he did not quite understand at the time, it turned out to be the right decision as a shoulder injury hindered his ability to ride. “I ended up dislocating my shoulder seven times and had to have three surgeries

to try and fix it, I would not have been riding anyway.”

After retirement Shawn went and earned a bachelor’s degree in Sports Ministry and a master’s degree in Divinity at Indiana Wesleyan University. Shawn would also serve as a pastor at his local church until he moved down to Florida in 2013. During his college years he transitioned more into off-road racing. He attributed the lighter pace and more structured schedule as to why he began to favor the woods, “I just love to come race, hangout and then go home whereas in motocross you just sit, race for five minutes, sit, race for five minutes.”

After Shawn moved to Florida, he looked up the local hare scramble series and then found FTR. “I showed up to a race and really enjoyed it, now every year I seem to be more involved and going to more races,” says Shawn, “I just bought a camper so I am sure I will be at even more this year.”

It is the family aspect that keeps him coming back, something he has always felt is most important since his first days on a bike. Shawn has a family of his own and his father, Kerry Clark, races the Golden Master A class, “to this day going to the races with my dad is still my favorite thing to do.” Keeping racing as a hobby is what kept Shawn going for so long, not letting pressure

build and remembering to have fun with it, “If I can make a recommendation to any young racers, just have fun with your family and that will provide long-term success.”

After multiple years of racing AA and 30+ in the afternoon Shawn will transition to the 10:30 race in Vet A in 20202021. “I’ll probably still do some AA races at my favorite properties, like Mondon Hill, but the morning race will be a lot easier for my family when they come.”

CATCHING UP: BLAKE YAHRAUS Blake Yahraus has been racing FTR for as long as he can remember. During the unexpected break in FTR racing Blake and his family decided to go GNCC racing full-time.

I called Blake up to see how his season was going.

Hey Blake, what are you up to?

Hey man, I’m actually up here in New Jersey staying with some friends. Trying to ride some different terrain in between GNCC rounds.

How has your GNCC season been going so far?

It’s been good, I’m racing 150 A. It started good with

a top five at round one in South Carolina and then a top three in Florida. After that I got a few fifths and sixths which is not bad.

Actually, my endurance has been improving but unfortuanetly I have had some bike issues these last two rounds.

Which round, outside of the Florida round, has been your favorite so far?

I’d have to say Camp Coker in South Carolina. It’s similar to Florida in a way with the sand but it is still a bit different in how the track breaks down. I was definitely comfortable at that round.

You raced a handful of rounds last year on the SuFLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS

permini, what has been the hardest part about transitioning from the morning race to the three-hour afternoon race?

The track for sure, it is so much rougher in the afternoon. The bike only sections get gnarly too. All around its just tougher.

Obviously traveling the country with your dirtbike can get tough. Who is helping you get to the races?

My mom, my dad, the whole TF Racing crew, Jesse Ansley, my uncle, grandparents, Ricky Skaggs, FXR Racing and just everyone else who is helping me out, thank you.

For most, the offseason is all about refining your skills. SUNCOAST TRAIL BLAZERS TAKE ON ALABAMA

A shortened FTR season left many members asking the question “what now?”. Well, the Suncoast Trail Blazers took to Facebook (social distancing) to start planning their annual club trip. After much discussion and planning, the club members headed out to the great state of Alabama to “The Ridge Outdoor Resort” to try their hands at some rocky, appalachian clay trails. Some club members even managed to get some mountainbiking in. “Any time you have a chance to ride terrain you’re not used to, you have to take it,” says Nick Doerr, Suncoast Trail Blazers member since 2006.

What are they?

The geniuses over at Risk Racing have developed Palm Protectors, a soft “glove-like” feature that is worn underneath riding gloves.
