M E E T the D E S I G N E R Andrea Ancel is our Director of Design and has been behind the creation of our floral arrangements for years. As a trained florist of more than 20 years, Andrea translates leading floral trends with her creative approach to design gorgeous bouquets for FTD. Her expertise and innovation drive our ability to create high-quality arrangements that delight everyone & capture the true meaning of giving flowers.
Q&A WITH ANDREA
Q What brought forth this transformation in codification? A We listened to you. We took your feedback to heart, and we worked tirelessly to re-invent with you, our florists, in mind. We worked with florists across the country to keep your needs and profitability in mind when creating our new Signature Collection. The goal is to simplify, put the florals first, and offer versatile, stylish glass vases and natural wooden boxes for you to design in.
Valentine's Day Designed with the passion for sharing and celebrating the act of flower‑giving, this collection is curated to bring romance with every bloom. Giving flowers, especially on Valentine’s Day, is more than just sending something. It’s giving love, giving a hug, giving an experience. Pairing classic shades like rich reds, passionate pinks and regal purples with bold textures, these refreshed designs also include surprising accents of peaches, plums and greens. These elements, combined with the beauty of giving love, is the inspiration behind this collection.
Q What inspires you to create these designs? A Color. Wherever I look, my eyes are drawn to colors: pinks, greens, shades of yellow, splashes of purple, deep reds. I love them all! It may sound simple, but even a blooming tree in a sea of green, a painting at a favorite museum, a walk through the garden, a cool printed scarf can inspire me and spark a color combination. Once I’ve identified the color palette, I find ways texture can allow for levels and create something unexpected, yet classic enough to be re-created many times over.
Q For collections yet to come this year, what are some new things we will see?
A It’s all about putting the focus back on the flowers. I got into designing floral bouquets because I love creating beauty with my hands. Every time I pick up one of our new clear vases or a simple wooden box, it feels like a blank canvas. Once I have a color palette in my mind, my hands instinctively reach for the next bloom and the next thing I know, my hands take over. Along with loosely designed bouquets and pops of unexpected colors, I’m excited to share a blend of floral varieties and bouquets that, in the end, capture a sentiment, occasion or season.
Spring & Summer The warmer months are all about welcoming change. Designed with high-quality florals, this collection’s arrangements share the excitement of transitioning into a new season. This shift calls for an uplifting mix of soft hues, vibrant colors, and rich, ruffled textures. Inspired by the look and feel of a fresh garden, the bouquets in our signature vases evoke the best the seasons have to offer. With many reasons to give joy throughout spring and summer, our collection of bouquets is a refreshing take on the age-old practice of flower‑giving. 3
Signature Collection
SIGNATURE COLLECTION The two main styles of this new approach, known as our Signature Collection, are a clear glass vase and a glass vase with a golden dip & hammered texture — both available in two sizes. Each were specifically chosen based on consumer trends, ease of use for designers and their ability for the flowers to be the showstopper of the arrangement. Moving forward, these same vases will be featured in collections to come with different floral recipes and other vessels flexed in as the season calls for it. For Valentine’s Day, a classic yet timeless red flared vase adds a burst of romance to the collection. For Spring, a popular whitewashed and a natural, rustic wooden box will give the collection a garden‑inspired look and feel.
