Facebook: Florida State University Honors Program

From the Director's Desk Dear Honors Students First of all I would like to thank Kayla Rojics and Ellis Daugherty (and everyone else that has contributed to the newsletters) for their hard work and persistence in putting out the newsletters. I know all students have academics and extra-curricular activities to occupy their time, so I appreciate their efforts on these newsletters! As for myself, I recently attended an Honors conference and enjoyed hearing some student talks about their Honors experiences. I now know that there are a number of these conferences throughout the academic year and would love to see us attend some next year. In fact, the National Collegiate Honors Council is holding their meeting November 8-12, 2017 in Atlanta. Student submissions for this conference are due March 13 so check out the NCHC website (nchchonors.org) for more information. In addition, the website has some interesting student opportunities such as their Partners in the Parks program, which has experiential learning projects for students and faculty within our National Parks. On another note, I have driven a car in 47 of the 50 United States. I have never been to Hawaii or Alaska (although I would love to visit both), but can anyone guess which of the continental states I have yet to drive a vehicle in?

Sincerely, Mark Kearley

March: Trisomy Awareness Month ft. Best Buddies & Hands of Hope "We pair college students with individuals with intellectual disabilities. This organization allows for independence and also gives participants lifelong friendships. We host many events each year that are mostly specific to the chapter, however all are welcome to attend. We encourage friendship, trust, fun, and opportunities. Every person is an individual. Best Buddies gives its members the opportunity to see beyond the superficial and to see people for what they really are."

Volunteer Opportunities Remember Honors Students that you have two deadlines for service hours: you must log 10 hours by the end of your first year, and 10 more hours by the end of your second year, for a grand total of 20 service hours. For example, if you earn 15 hours in your first year, you only need 5 more by the end of your second year. Take into account that for every 30 hours of service (up to 150 hours), you can earn one point towards your Honors Graduation.

DATES Tuesday, March 28th: 17th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Union Ballrooms. Assistance needed greeting and directing attendees from around 8:00 am-5:00 pm as well as with set-up the afternoon before (March 27th) and clean-up after the event. Support your peers and see the groundbreaking work coming out of Florida State! Stay tuned for shift sign ups soon! Contact Kate Hayworth to volunteer. April 21-22: Relay for Life.
