A native of North Carolina, tenor, David Tayloe has been praised for his “lovely tenor that sings with Mozartean finesse.” David has made appearances with the Aldeburgh Festival, Snape Proms, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Santa Fe Opera, Druid City Opera, Opera Louisiane, Opera Birmingham, Mississippi Opera, Naples Philharmonic, Virginia Arts Festival, The Virginia Symphony, Piedmont Opera Company, the A.J. Fletcher Institute, LSU Opera, and Frost Opera Theater. His recent roles include The Duke in Rigoletto, Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette, Jason in Medea, Albert in Albert Herring, Gastone in La Traviata, Student in Michael Torke’s Strawberry Fields, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Candide in Bernstein’s Candide, and Mozart in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Mozart and Salieri. As a concert singer, he has performed frequently as the soloist in Bach cantata series, as Obadiah in Elijah, the Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion as well as the tenor soloist in the Magnificat, Finzi’s Dies Natalis, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, Lord Nelson Mass, Paukenmesse, and Theresianmesse, Schubert’s A-flat Mass, and Britten’s Serenade. Recently, David was seen under the direction of Phillipe Herreweghe at the Snape Proms in a concert of Bach Cantatas, and the Mass in D-Minor.

An avid performer of art song, Tayloe made his solo recital debut at Carnegie Hall in January of 2020. He also completed a national tour of Schubert’s Winterreise culminating in a featured recital at the National Opera Center in New York City. He has been an active recitalist in both the US and the UK. David has been a prize winner of The American Prize in the Men’s Art Song category. He has performed at the Cleveland Art Song Festival, SongFest, Song Collaborators Consortia, and continues to be in demand as an active recitalist across the continent. David has collaborated with composers on their original work including Libby Larsen, Ben Moore, Michael Torke, and Jake Runestad, and including: the premiere of Ben Moore’s Dear Theo, the world premiere of A Page Out of Zen by Ryan Jesperson, and the world premiere of Thomas Sleeper’s Beatrice Bends for her Blue Ball, among others. David is the curator of the Capstone Song Initiative, an annual concert series that promotes the work of living composers in America.

Tayloe has performed with Seraphic Fire, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and Voices, Taylor Festival Choir, Cahaba Chamber Chorale, and other ensembles. He has been a performer at the Magnolia Baroque Festival The Salem Bach Festival, the Duffy Composers Institute at the Virginia Arts Festival and was twice awarded the Stern Fellowship at Songfest in Los Angeles as well as the recital fellowship. Tayloe can be heard on the upcoming album Pathways to Healing with the Taylor Festival Choir released on PARMA/NAVONA records.

Tayloe holds degrees from University of Miami and Louisiana State University, and the Eastman School of Music. Additional studies at the Britten-Pears Institute at Snape Maltings in Aldeburgh, England. In the fall of 2014, Tayloe joined the faculty of the University of Alabama where he serves Associate Professor of Voice and is actively in demand as guest teacher and clinician around the country.

Valerie M. Trujillo’s experiences in song literature and opera make her a much sought-after accompanist, coach, and teacher of masterclasses. Formerly Co-Director of the Young American Artists Program at Glimmerglass Opera, she has been associated with many opera companies including Santa Fe Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Wexford Festival Opera (Ireland), Connecticut Opera, Shreveport Opera, Mississippi Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Theatre at Wildwood, Augusta Opera, Ohio Light Opera and Opera in the Ozarks. Ms. Trujillo has served as artist faculty at the Tanglewood Music Center, Ars Vocalis México (Zamora, México), the Taos Opera Institute, Si parla, si canta

(Urbania, Italy), and La Musica Lirica (Novafeltria, Italy) as well as the academic faculty at the Hartt School, Middle Tennessee State University, Yale University, and Central Connecticut State University. She made her Weill Recital Hall debut in 2006 and can be heard on the Grammy-nominated Chandos release of Bennett’s The Mines of Sulphur, as well as on the Mark Records, Albany, and Azica labels. Ms. Trujillo is proud to have served as the NATS Master Collaborative Teacher for the 2020 and 2021 NATS Intern Programs. A native of Santa Fe, NM, she received her musical training from Eastern New Mexico University and the University of Illinois. She taught at Florida State University from 1990-1996 and rejoined the faculty in 2002 where she is now Professor of Vocal Coaching and Accompanying.
