“Donde lieta uscì [...] Dunque è proprio finita!” La bohème

Rodolfo is driven to despair by Mimì’s illness, believing that her only chance of recovery is to leave him and his life of poverty. Mimì understands the reason for Rodolfo’s now-cruel behavior, and decides to leave and pack her belongings. The two agree to separate but are unwilling to do so right away. They instead reminisce and agree to part when the spring comes. Musetta and Marcello also separate, much less amicably, after a fierce argument over Musetta’s supposed flirtations with other men.

In the garden of the Ford family home, dear friends Alice Ford and Meg Page discover they have each received a love letter from the old knight, Sir John Falstaff. They compare the letters and discover that they are identical, with only the names changed for each recipient. Together with governess Mistress Quickly and Alice’s daughter Nannetta, they decide to teach Falstaff a lesson. Alice will entertain Falstaff’s advances and then publicly expose him.

Papageno, a bird catcher for the Queen of the Night, has been punished for lying and now wears a lock on his mouth. Papageno desperately needs Prince Tamino’s help to speak again, but Tamino is unable to help. Soon, three ladies sent by the Queen of the Night appear and relieve Papageno of his curse with the promise that he will not lie again. However, they have another mission: Tamino and Papageno must now save the Queen’s daughter Pamina who has been captured by Sarastro. The men are equipped with magical instruments and are sent to Sarastro’s castle to save the beloved damsel in distress.

Norina has tricked the old man, Don Pasquale, into believing that she is a sweet and demure girl, and a perfect future loving wife. However, after the wedding, Norina teaches Pasquale a lesson by turning into a domineering and extravagant wife, demanding money, jewelry, and other fine things. As Pasquale struggles to keep up with this new version of Norina, he eventually cracks and demands a divorce.

On an ominous, stormy night, Rigoletto and Gilda lurk in the darkness outside the house of an assassin, Sparafucile. Rigoletto brought Gilda only to witness the infidelity of the Duke, who meanwhile serenades Maddalena, Sparafucile’s beguiling sister. The Duke’s infidelity horrifies Gilda, and Rigoletto tries to comfort his despairing daughter while vowing swift revenge on his enemy.

The smugglers Dancaïre and Remendado join Carmen, Frasquita and Mercédès at the tavern inn of Lilas Pastia. The men begin to talk business: they need to deliver their smuggled loot and want the three women to join them. Carmen refuses to go because she has fallen in love with a man who will be released from prison that night. Nobody believes her and several attempts of persuading her into joining them ultimately fail.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Don Giovanni has successfully diverted an entire wedding party and the groom to have a private conversation with Zerlina, the bride to be. Don Giovanni attempts to seduce Zerlina, promising her things like a big house and fineries. Zerlina is hesitant at first, but eventually gives in and the two sing harmoniously of their upcoming departure.
