PUBLISHER´S NOTE

M

arch brings Mars, God of War and Ruler of Aries to start the new season with great energy.

All life is eager to break out of its shell. From the smallest seed to the largest mountain, spring and the flow of growth has started, emerging with joy and hope. Colors are naturally vibrant and ready to burst forth from all the energy accumulated during the winter months. It’s time to embrace a happier, more positive mindset. Illustrate your most colorful attitude in your choice of clothes, makeup, nails, and accessories. Black needs to rest in the closet for the next two seasons. Consider blue and gray as your base, they will work beautifully with any color combination or hue. My favorite is a mixture of blue and green to mimic the early spring sky. Seasonal tip: Adding a touch of your eye color in a scarf, necklace or shirt trim near your face will enhance your skin tone and will refresh the glow of your winter skin. Nature gives us messages in our natural skin tones and eyes as to what hues complement best. Listen to the messages! Adapting this into your daily wardrobe can assure being well put together, thus feeling and looking great. I wish you courage to march forth coming out of the shell of winter, onto sunny and happy springtime adventures.

Much love,

POLITICALLY CORRECT

SPRING NECKLINES

As we turn toward warmer days, we all attempt to pare down and dress for the amiable weather. A current trend is the plunging neckline. Though this look is very sexy and “of the moment,” it dances delicately close to vulgar and inappropriate. I constantly feel the need to remind readers that dressing to reflect political correctness and being fashionable are different things. This is not to say that plunging necklines are completely out of the question. One must be extremely aware of the social circumstances, but it’s seldom appropriate. For example, a plunging neckline before 5:00 p.m. cannot be thought of as acceptable. A possible exception is a bathing suit cover-up. A plunging neckline at a fun, atmospheric bar or club can sometimes pass as fashionable and not simply vulgar. During the evening hours, and depending upon the event and the crowd, a plunging neckline can be acceptable and worth the risk—especially if one is atten-

ding an art opening, fashion show, or modern-style party or gala. For cocktail parties and similar events, though, it is more in line with the etiquette of dress to avoid such a dramatic neckline. Unlike black tie or formal events, cocktail parties have a more conservative dress code. Evening events are opportunities to make more of a splash, and a plunging neckline could be glamorous. In the end, a plunging neckline makes a statement. Under certain circumstances, this choice can be a politically correct one, but one should proceed with caution. When one refers to necklines and the gents, there is a lot less discussion. If a gentleman is wearing a crew neck, not too much of the shoulders and collarbones should be visible. While wearing a button-down shirt, no more than two buttons should be unbuttoned, unless on the beach.

Chloe designed this ruffle tie-neck blouse, an option for evening wear. This is a very low neck line, but could be paired with cigarette pants for a cocktail party. Found at Saks.com

This Donna Karan deep-V peplum ensemble is a lovely dress, this plunging V neck line is sexy while not being too abrasive. Found at Saks.com

This Agnona fauxwrap blouse is a lovely plunging neck line, so demure that it could be worn before 5:00 pm. Found at Saks.com

The neckline of this dress is as close to plunging and politically correct as one could get. See by Chloe. Found at Saks.com

OUT OF HOLLYWOOD

A GERMAN STAR CONQUERS HOLLYWOOD:

VERONICA FERRES

There are only a handful of international actresses who have made it in Hollywood, and Veronica Ferres is definitely one to add to that respected league. After almost three decades of filming one topliner after another and becoming one of Germany‘s most successful actresses, she is now joining Hollywood stars such as Robert de Niro and Michael Shannon in two upcoming movies. Veronica Ferres, whose career once started at a small theater, is by far one of the most influential women in Germany. Her awards include the Adolf Grimme Prize, the German Television Prize, the Bavarian Television Prize, the Golden Camera Award and the Bambi Award. As passionate as she works for her profession, she dedicates a majority of her time to social engagement and bringing awareness to socially debriefed and neglected children at charity events. FSHN had the great honor to sit down with Veronica Ferres for this exclusive interview while she was preparing for her new movie role in “The Comedian“ with Robert de Niro.

Veronica, thank you for taking time out to do this exclusive interview with FSHN.

FSHN: You are known as one of the best character actresses in Germany and you have starred in quite a few international productions as well. How has success changed your attitude towards life, friendships and values? VF: First of all, thank you so much for these questions and this interview. To answer your first question, I don’t think that success has changed me. Growing up, I was taught the value of hard work and perseverance and I live by those principals. Life is full of wonderful surprises; you simply have to keep your heart, mind, and soul open. I get up every morning and feel the same passion for acting as when I first started. For me, the rush of being on set and becoming a new character is the best feeling. In regards to my family and friends, I surround myself with people of like minds. My family loves and supports me unconditionally, and I am the same with them. I encourage my children’s dreams like my parents encouraged mine. Friends are wonderful reflections of yourself and I am lucky to have the friends that I have.

by Joyce Darkoh

FSHN: Your actual career as an actress started with the movie “Das Superweib,” a German movie based on a bestseller that tells the story about a typical mother and wife who turns into a self-confident business woman. As the icon for femininity and strength that you represent for many Germans today, do you see parallels in the character “Franziska” you played then and your life now? VF: I’m honored that you see me as an icon for femininity and strength. My mother was the most self-determined, independent, and powerful woman I met in my life, I try to walk in her shoes. My parents were potato farmers and charcoal traders and she managed most of my family’s income by herself. I could never live without working, as for me; work is a process of learning and evolution of self. Every character that I have played has taught me something about myself, and the world. Franziska is important to me because it started my journey in acting and storytelling. I have insatiable curiosity and desire for new adventures and challenges. I would say that the thing Franziska and I have in common is our ability to adapt to new situations, to look for the silver lining in whatever challenge the world throws my way.

FSHN: Unlike many female celebrities who write books about beauty and their careers, you wrote books about children who are at risk of abuse and everyday heroes who dedicate their time to help socially unprivileged children. You are also known for your amazing social engagements with organizations such as SOS children’s villages, and homes for children. Where does your enthusiasm to help children in particular come from? Could you tell us a bit more about current engagements? VF: I’ve always felt responsible for the younger generations. They have boundless joy, creativity, innovation, and hope from which the world can learn a lot. Children are the most vulnerable piece in the chain of our society. I feel like it is my responsibility to protect and strengthen them, I think it’s our responsibility as a society to put the children first. To see the world from the wonder of a child’s gaze is a gift and one that should be celebrated and encouraged. I’ve been the ambassador for the worldwide organization Hadassah among others and generally look to support foundations that highlight children’s struggles, such as the German Children`s Foundation “Die Arche.” I love working with young writers and directors. I like to support young actors. It has been said that the children are the future; I think children are our present and our future. I am inspired by interactions with youth, their stories, their hope, and their overall view of the world. Perhaps it is selfish of me, but I really learn so much from working and interacting with children that it is not work but an honor to be part of these organizations.

FSHN: You are a wife, the mother of a teenage daughter and two stepsons. How do you manage to secure yourself a well deserved privacy while being a public person? VF: My daughter and sons are my world. As an actor, you understand that you give away anonymity for the love of the art. When it comes to my children, everything relies on conversation. I speak to them with honesty and tell them of the challenges in public spaces. My children understand and handle the information with poise and maturity, they truly make me proud. They remain outside of publicity and we strive to give them a life that is as normal as possible. FSHN: In one of your last productions, you played a politician, a chancellor who has to manage political responsibilities and personal desires. What encouraged you to play this role and how did it influence your perspectives to women in powerful positions? VF: It was an honor to portray a female chancellor, an opportunity to delve into a role that is timely and relevant in our world today. I was surprised to discover that when you are in a position of power, there are opposing parties that are looking for you to fall. In a way, my character had to put her personal desires in the background for the sake of her country. She learns to better manage both the job and her personal life through the story. As the Frank & Ernest cartoon said, “Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, except backwards and in high heels.”

FSHN: How much of the person “Veronica Ferres” is in the characters you play? VF: Every character has to be like a sister, you may not agree with how they behave or what they do, but you always love them. There is a piece of Veronica Ferres in all of my characters, and it’s a symbiotic relationship as they are a piece of me. FSHN: Amy Schumer recently raised attention with a clip that addressed the gender issues with aging actresses in Hollywood. You, on the other hand, perfectly managed to switch from feminine love characters to strong character roles without sacrificing any of your femininity and credibility as a self-confident woman. What is your secret? VF: I love being a woman. Amy is right in pointing out the double standards in Hollywood between men and women but I think that is changing. It is our responsibility to look for and create roles for women of all ages. I don’t think there is a time when you are done acting because of your age. I am attracted to roles that explore the complexity of the feminine mystique. There is mystery, sensuality, love, warmth, and power in being a woman. I embrace the changes in myself and look forward to acting for many years. I don’t think there’s a formula or a secret, that’s the beauty of being a woman, each one is beautiful in her own way.

FSHN: You are currently starring in an international production called "Salt and Fire," which will be released this year. We don’t want to reveal too much but in this movie you play a scientist who tries to prevent a ecological disaster caused by a reckless company. Tell us a bit about the production and the message in this movie. VF: Working with Werner Herzog was a dream come true. We were shooting at 13,000 feet of altitude in the deserts of Bolivia. It was one of the most physically and mentally challenging roles of my life. The world ceased to exist during our shoot. We had no contact to the outside world and it was all about our insular film family. Werner is a force of nature, and like a force of nature, he changes the landscape of your soul. I loved working with Michael and Gael; it was truly a highlight to be Werner’s leading lady. I won’t give away the plot of the film, but I’m excited for people to see it. FSHN: We just heard the great news about your upcoming film with Robert De Niro. How was it working with him and Danny Devito? Anything else about the project you can share? VF: I can’t talk about the project specifically since we’re in the middle of production, but I love working with DeNiro, Devito, and my wonderful director Taylor Hackford. It’s an incredible honor to be part of this all-star cast and crew. I am surrounded by incredibly talented, high-class people that make my job easy. I come to set, I hit my mark, and deliver the performance that is asked of me. I love when I meet and work with different actors because I learn something from every person that I interact with. To work with DeNiro is a learning experience of a lifetime. BLOGGER INTERVIEW MEET

Tommy LeI TOMMY LEI, THE STYLETELLER Of MY BELONGING Meet Tommy Lei, one of America‘s most successful menswear influencers or, in his words, the styleteller of My Belonging. Raised in Hong Kong and now based in Los Angeles, his background as a digital marketer and content producer enables him to use an aesthetic creativity and detailed minimalism to narrate about fashion trends, travel destinations, exclusive events and curated experiences. His collaboration partners include renowned labels such as Louis Vuitton, or Calvin Klein as well as brands like Audi, Ted Baker, and Asos, just to name a few.

Despite his busy schedule, Tommy sat down with FSHN to talk about his blog mybelonging.com, fashion blogging and personal goals. by Joyce Darkoh

FSHN: You are one of the few pioneers in menswear blogging, having started at a time when most blogs were run by women. What encouraged you to start your blog? TL: MYBELONGING came to fruition as a result of a strong, passionate desire to discover my personal identity amongst my material investments. Initially, I was only documenting and reviewing items I was purchasing with no intent on having it become a fledging business (I worked full-time in corporate PR up until a year and half ago). So there was really no specific timing for the site - it just happened at the right time I suppose. FSHN: You have reached a large crowd of followers on Instagram and Facebook. Who are your average followers? TL: First of all - thank you guys for the kind words! I still think I have a long way to go, but I absolutely love the community I’ve built. I treat every reader and follower as an individual - not someone I am marketing to. I’ve always despise the concept of idolatry, so I’d much rather have my audience make up their own minds and express their own opinions. Overall, my followers are quite the international crowd ranging from 22-45 years old. They enjoy and partake in luxurious experiences, shop both high and low end and love a good story.

FSHN: Can you describe your personal style? TL: My personal style is more or less an evolution it’s never stagnant. It’s a reflection and projection of my current mood, what I am going through. Aesthetically, I love clean, structural and architectural lines and prefer textures over patterns. As I’ve said before, personal style is an unwritten language that speaks before you do. FSHN: There has been a drastic change among men and fashion in the last few years. What are your thoughts on this? TL: The surging interest in menswear is a welcomed one for sure. It’s about time that men finally start to dress for themselves rather than others. There is a dominant conformity that looms, however. I still think there’s room to embrace more experimental and agendered silhouettes. FSHN: Your blog also includes traveling and lifestyle. Which one of your travels has been the most impressive one for you so far? TL: Without a doubt, Mexico City has been my most inspiring trip yet. The city’s vibrant culture, community and food has beautifully broken many preconceptions for me, while enabling me to go beyond my comfort zones - I had ant egg larvae and fried grasshopper for the very first time while in the country. I cannot wait to go back. FSHN: How do you get inspired of what to wear and blog next? TL: As with every decision I make in life, I go with my gut. I never plan my day-to-day outfits - sometimes, my best outfits are a result of having to rush out the door.

FSHN MAGAZINE

FSHN: Who is Tommy Lei when the cameras are off? What do you do in your spare time. TL: People already know this on Snapchat (find me at mybelonging!) - I am very much a homebody. Even when I do go out for an event or dinner, I don’t stay out for long. I love retreating to my private sanctuary (aka my bedroom) and disengage from all the noise both literal and digital. In my spare time, I enjoy meditating, long hikes, museum strolls and hotel hopping. FSHN: Lately, a lot of young guys are starting their own menswear blog with varing degrees of success. What is your recommendation and advice for them? TL: With so much over-saturation in the menswear blog landscape, it’s easier than ever to get lost in all the noise. Rise above the noise pollution by really honing your personal voice. A voice that speaks against grain will always prevail. Equally important is practicing and reinforcing the three Ps - patience, perseverance and persistence. FSHN: What are your next steps and goals? TL: 2016 has already been off to a fantastic start - especially with my Shorty Awards nomination! In the short term, I have an awesome cruise trip to the Caribbean coming up, an extensive, nation-wide campaign with a major automobile brand and plenty of sartorial moments in between.

66

In the long term, while I cannot elaborate too much on some pending projects (especially ones with major brands), we’re excited to share as things unfolds. FSHN: What are three must-have items that every fashion-conscious guy should have in his wardrobe this season? TL: The three items you already wear every day are your must-haves, by default. If you are in need of a starter kit, I do recommend a high-quality leather jacket from Acne Studios, a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses and a pair of Saint Laurent chelsea boots or Rick Owens sneakers. MONTHLY FASHION COLUMN

ABLY SPEAKING by Joyce Darkoh

A few days ago, I had stumbled over an article called “Having it all kinda sucks” by Amy Westervelt. Curious by nature, I paused my internet browsing to read through the lines. The article talked about a woman, a wife, with all ambitions to pursue a successful business career while fulfilling her desires of nurturing offsprings.

“We should cut it out with the fairy tales already. Stop telling women they can have everything without sacrificing anything. Here’s the truth: You want to have a career and kids? You totally can, but both will suffer.” As a business woman myself without children, I have to admit that I couldn’t help but feel some sort of relief after going through some of the author’s paragraphs. The ability to multitask in between answering business calls, typing articles and changing diapers or feeding babies appeared to be rather painful to wish for. And still, in modern times like this, shouldn’t being a mother and a career woman at the same time be made easier? Is it ethically justified that women at some point have to make the critical decision whether they should put their personal career at pause for maternal reasons or challenge their inner biological clock? Or maybe, just maybe, the approach here is totally wrong?! Society is full of successful women that have managed to raise children while continuing their current career.

68

And then there are some who consciously passed on motherhood while others took the option of an adoption. The editor in chief of FSHN, a successful freelance photographer and also a mother of 21 month old twins (!), experiences moments as described in the article, where the job has to get done but maternal duties come in between; but if you would ask her if she was willing to trade her life in she would smile at her kids and say "never." Maybe, if we would see having children as part of being a woman; maybe if women would not define “success” based on a male-influenced scale and put less pressure on being picture perfect, maybe then women would feel more empowered and less socially fallen behind. There is nothing wrong with rescheduling or delaying work related tasks for the sake of a family matter or wanting to have it all. As a matter of fact, the amount of multi-tasking necessary to coordinate business and maternal workload is by far more challenging than running a company. However, and that is where we fail at large, more companies should support businesswomen with nurturing desires at any age and make their return possible at any time without the loss of privileges and career opportunities. Yes, having it all can be kinda challenging but lowering the expectation of being super species that are to complete all tasks at a 110% rate will stop women/ mothers from tapping their own shoulder at the end of the day with a “you have successfully mastered another challenging day.” Until next time, Stay FSHNable Joyce

DESIGNER DREAMS “I dreamt I was driving on a road surrounded by beautiful, familiar scenery but I ended up in a narrow alley. Suddenly, a door at the opening of the alley dropped down and trapped me inside. Standing by, was my captor, a large dark man. There was a window to escape through, but looking down I saw a deep, vertical drop made of rough rocks. As I somehow managed to get out, the man turned into a woman. She pulled out a chair on the sidewalk and brought out a spinning wheel for spinning yarns. Since I was going to escape, I thought she’d better find something else to do. On the road again, I tried to put a Brooklyn address in my GPS on my phone, but it wasn’t my phone. It was a small, square-shaped device I was unfamiliar with. I wondered what had happened to my phone. What does this mean”? Gemma Kahng, Soho, New York

THE INTERPRETATION

by Lauren Lawrence

There is the wish for inspiration. The beautiful scenery is all too familiar; a different outlook is needed. Dreaming of being trapped often indicates that physical or emotional constraints are in place: Sometimes these constraints are merely time constraints or deadlines. Sometimes they are similar to writer’s block. But whatever the constriction, there is anxiety over the sense of limitation. The threatening captor---the large, dark man who turns into a woman---represents the Jungian shadow presence, the unknown part of the personality that consciousness must acknowledge. Powering up

70

the masculine side, strengthens the inner personality and allows a magical transformation: The woman at the spinning wheel is spinning yarns, after all--the very cloth of a fashion designer. The circle symbol of the wheel is the archetypal mandala--the sphere around which everything spins. The creative instincts have awakened in full force. Phone symbolism within dreams refers to communication with the self. The lost phone reveals that work cannot be “phoned in.” It must be deliberated over and carefully thought out. The creative process is never sparked by the common, but by the unfamiliar.

DESIGNER INTERVIEW

lost in wonderland more than a lingerie fairy tale Lingerie can be, classy, sexy, avant-garde and lavishly detailed. Lost in Wonderland is none of that and all of that the same time. Despite having a playful name, the brand’s intimates are effortlessly eye-catching, sexy and powerfully feminine. Mainly known by true lingerie admirers, the independent brand just changed its market strategy to become more present. We had the chance to speak to the founder and designer Scarlett Grosselanghorst who gave us an honest word about challenges for indie brands and her vision of a garden full of night bloomers.

by Ava Pivot

FSHN: Hi Scarlett, nice to talk to you. Your name is quite a tongue twister. Can you tell us something about your background and what led you to do Wonderland? SG: It’s such a pleasure to have the opportunity to introduce Lost in Wonderland to your readers, thanks a lot. About me, I was born in California; however,my mother went back to Germany with me when I was little so I had a regular German childhood. At the age of 17, I had a major crush on a French lingerie brand that in hindsight might have influenced me more than anyone could have predicted. Eventually, I studied fashion design and I discovered quickly that I was crazy for lingerie and everything connected to it, beside being a lover of avant-garde fashion, lace, sheer fabrics, tiny bows, trimming details… After interning as a designer, I started working as a freelancer. I did everything from design to pattern, cutting, and walk acts. This gave me the chance to work on my plans for my own lingerie company. I was realistic enough to know that my last name is far from suitable for a lingerie brand, so I looked for something that creates an image in your mind. To me, Lost in Wonderland embodies a dark, seductive fantasy. A garden full of night bloomers for the daring and the restless.

84

FSHN: Please describe Lost in Wonderland’s style. SG: A mixture of French classic and reduced Berlin avant-garde for self-conscious women. One of the most frequent used words to describe my collections is edgy, though. I live for details, and in lingerie it’s all about details, as well as well chosen materials. FSHN: Speaking of materials, you were one of the first designers to produce eco-conscious lingerie, and advertising that your intimates are vegan. SG: True story. But it was not only marketing. While fast fashion is working with long supply chains, low wages and sourcing in Asia, more and more customers wish for more transparency. I decided to buy from Europe, and the wires of our bras are very expensive in comparison to others, but at the end it’s a matter of quality. Our factory is in Poland. Production is quite expensive but I know exactly what the place looks like, plus we keep transportation ways short to reduce emission. As a last step I decided to refrain from using silk and any material made from animals. We do not judge anyone working with silk or loving the feel of it. But we live in modern times and lingerie needs to be washed, and my goal is to create lingerie for everyday life. So I chose special and modern lingerie fabrics and mixed them with traditionally stitched French lace from one of the world’s leading manufacturers for Haute Couture lace.

SPRING FASHION ISSUE 2016

FSHN: You launched your first collection at the age of 25 at Europe’s biggest lingerie trade fair in Paris; now you are 29. From an outside perspective, it sounds easy and quite risky at the same time. What where your experiences? And what happened since then? SG: I have no idea why I was not scared. Against all odds and despite of being an absolute nobody, I took my lingerie to Paris and got better support and feedback by the international trade press and lingerie blogs than I had have ever imagined. If I told you that buyers went crazy and I was sold out the first day it would be a shameless lie. But before you can start selling, you need press. And for meeting all important people, Paris was and probably still is the best place in Europe. Even though I lacked experience I was actually well prepared for a young designer. I had a good concept, good pictures and my heart on the sleeve. With this, I have always been foolishly honest and very open-minded. People who met me saw that I had a dream. And they supported me because I was not only running around talking trash but was working every single day. Of course, indie-lingerie is a niche product. The scene was like a shark pool and it has not changed since. I made the best, but also the worst experiences with Lost in Wonderland. But since 2015, a lot has happened. I realized that as a smaller brand you cannot deliver as many new designs per year as you could do as a designer in theory. It is a question of money, time and manpower. As mentioned before, we wish to work sustainably. Quick collection intervals make our goods lose their worth quickly and you end up having one sale chasing the other. For bigger brands this might not be such a problem, but for indie brands this is a real challenge. We switched to producing new range slowly and worked out a more retailer-friendly system. FSHN: Where do you get your inspiration from? SG: Sometimes a detail or a fabric itself leads to a design but in general I am a big admirer of conceptual work. Just like every other person I have a private obsession for short eras. So Lost in Wonderland’s second collection was inspired and named after the many lovers of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The last

collection represented the women who created the art of modern dance in the beginning of the 20th century. It all started with a book about Weimar Berlin where I had a kind of girl-crush on a scandalous Berlin child named Anita Berber. FSHN: Is there something Lost in Wonderland will never offer? Why? SG: Super push ups. We are overfed by pictures telling us what we are ought to look like. Breasts come in all sizes and with the right bra and an honest smile every woman is beautiful. And the right bra is not necessarily a push up. FSHN: Why is lingerie so important from your point of view? SG: The first thing you pick in the morning is your underwear. Intimates are not only a confidence booster, they also regulate your mood. Your apparel can be as luxury and perfect as possible but if you are wearing an ill-fitting bra your outfit is ruined. Vice versa, it is nice to have something unexpected pleasant peeping out under a simple outfit. Clothing, makeup and lingerie (being the most intimate part of our outfit) are our armor and a way of self-expression. If a partner likes it, that´s a plus. But we wish to encourage women to wear luxurious lingerie for themselves. Most direct orders in our shop are placed by women so I assume we did something right in communicating our internal, between-thelines credo. FSHN: What is missing in the world of lingerie? SG: Diversity. And so called ‘nude’ tones for different skin types, especially for women of color. We don’t have the ultimate solution for this either, but maybe a big company feels addressed to help with this issue. FSHN: Any Femme Fatale basics every woman should own? SG: A sheer black lace bra, or - for bigger cups - sheer lace over skin-toned cups. Furthermore, a suspender, stockings and black high heels. And of course red lipstick. .

COVERSTORY

TOPHER GRACE Taking Hollywood By Storm One Role at a Time by Christopher Renteria

While most people might recognize him as Eric Foreman from the hit sitcom “That ‘70s Show,” Topher Grace has gone on to have an impressive big screen career in a series of successful films. Over the course of his career, Grace has been cast in a variety of roles that show off his versatility as an actor. From playing the supervillain Venom in Spider-Man 3 to landing a supporting role as a NASA scientist in Christopher Nolan’s latest sci-fi adventure “Interstellar,” Grace has played just about every type of character that you can think of. Just last year he even played a CIA agent in the action comedy “American Ultra.”

88

However, it’s his most recent film “Truth” that has audiences buzzing. The film is based on the 2004 controversy that surrounded CBS anchor Dan Rather and Mary Mapes, a producer for “60 Minutes,” after the network decided to broadcast a report alleging that then President George W. Bush was granted preferential treatment from officials at the Texas Air National Guard after failing to meet performance requirements while serving in the early 1970s. The film has garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike, and stars Hollywood heavyweights Robert Redford, Cate Blanchett, and Dennis Quaid.

Just recently, Grace completed filming the black comedy “War Machine,” opposite Brad Pitt, which is based on the war in Afghanistan. Brad Pitt also serves as a producer on the film. The film is inspired by the non-fiction book “The Operators” by the late journalist Michael Hastings and also stars Sir Ben Kingsley and Will Poulter. Filming for “War Machine” commenced during midOctober in London and moved to Abu Dhabi shortly after. Earlier this month, production on “War Machine” concluded in Paris. When he is not too busy filming or spending time with his fiancé, the former “That ‘70s Show” star enjoys film editing. In early 2014 he even launched his own website, Cereal Prize, which features everything from re-edited movie trailers to funny sketches and much more. With his career booming, there is no doubt that Grace is definitely one to watch in 2016.

SPRING FASHION ISSUE 2016

What was the biggest highlight of 2015 for you? In terms of my personal life, I got engaged. That’s very nervewracking and I’ve done some nerve-wracking things on live TV but nothing compares to getting down on one knee. Professionally speaking, with my latest film “Truth” I wasn’t originally going to get the role, and I really liked it. I don’t know who it was going to go to, but it was someone much more famous than me. I ended up memorizing an entire scene, which took me a while, in which my character really melts down and I made a tape of it. My poor fiancé had to sit behind the camera and do the scene with me. I sent it to the director and after he saw it I got the role. I know that a big hobby of yours is film editing, do you practice with the small videos that you put on your website, “Cereal Prize?” Yes, that was another reason why I did it. All of this stuff that I do is not what I want to do professionally. I don’t get to edit a film and as an actor you’re never in the

editing room. You kind of think that you have an awareness of what that is but you don’t really. It wasn’t until I was in the editing room when I was a producer on a film that I realized how much it takes to change one frame let alone cut a scene, it was all new to me. I actually bought a video editing machine on eBay and then started learning how to do it myself. I don’t know how to really get into any of this stuff professionally but it’s a fun hobby especially when you do what I do for a living. Before becoming an actor you must’ve had a game plan for adulthood. What would your job most likely have been had you not pursued acting? To be completely honest, I didn’t have a plan. I actually ended up going to the University of Southern California and it’s funny because you have to declare a major but my major was undecided, I mean it was also kind of a metaphor for my life at that time. I was lucky to be in LA because that’s where the auditions were for “That ‘70s Show.”

Professionally, what’s the biggest risk that you’ve ever taken? Probably not finishing college and dropping out to star in a new show because there was no guarantee that “That ‘70s Show” would even make it on the air. Are there currently any actors or directors that you’re dying to work with? The list would be endless. I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I actually just did a film with Plan B Entertainment Inc., which is an amazing group of producers. Brad Pitt is one of the producers and also stars in the film. As an actor I’ve worked with him a little bit in the past but through the whole film when you’re spending your time watching him work you begin to notice what a genius he really is. The film before that I got to work with Robert Redford and Cate Blanchett, which was a great experience.

FSHN | 91

FSHN MAGAZINE

You mentioned that you worked with Brad Pitt on “War Machine,” what were you able to learn from working with an actor of that caliber? First of all, his artistry is really great. There are some monster scenes in this movie where he would come in and give a huge monologue. It was amazing being able to watch how he would prepare and how he tackled the scene. It felt very real – it was really a great thing to watch everyday. He’s amazing at getting the job done. Out of all of the characters that you’ve played, is there one that you’ve enjoyed playing the most? It would have to be playing Eric Forman on “That ‘70s Show” since it was so new to me. I had never acted before and we ended up filming the show for eight years. The show was such a huge part of my life and it was such an incredible experience.

92

Will we ever see a “That ‘70s Show” reunion? I would be down to do a reunion but everyone is just so busy, that’s one of the things that I’m most proud about in terms of the show, literally everyone has had artistic success after the show ended. Since leaving “That ‘70s Show,” you’ve primarily starred in movies, would you ever consider doing another TV show? I`d love to, I don’t discriminate. It could be TV or film, very small independent films, or even huge movies. It could be bad guys or good guys – I just love great roles.

Do you ever see yourself directing a film in the future? No. I just don’t have that skill set. Having worked with so many great directors, it’s proof to me that it’s not something I should be doing. I’ve been in this industry for a while now and I just gain more and more respect for the people that I work with. If you could describe your dream role, what would it be? I’m sure when I was younger I had a design on what I needed to do and now I realize that the real dream is being on set with a great director who really knows what the story is that they’re telling and is really passionate about it. The truth is that it all really comes down to that person.

Hello Beauties, Personally, I‘m addicted to lip color because whats better than looking fresh and different every day. Since we all should take care of our inner soul, we also have to take care of our skin. SKINCARE

REPLETE

NEW SKIN INTELLIGENTLY by ELISABETH THIERIOT

There’s no better time than now to enjoy fresh, newskin without spots, marks, or unwanted tattoos (and with almost no downtime and little-to-no pain). Spring is a great time to shed what we do not want or need on our body or in our life and it is a good time to adapt to new ways of being and open our minds to new possibilities after winter’s long indoor months. One of these new possibilities is the benefit you can have from the perfect combination of technology, science, and biology for your instant gratification! Finally, we can have the age of intelligent skin! I created the Intense Recovery extract originally to calm my skin after a long day under the Hawaiian sun, as I have found that the sun is vital to my ability to feel energized, to feeling positive, and to supporting bone density. There are vital nutrients that we can only receive in our interaction with sunlight; the goal is to interact intelligently and this was the very first product I created in my skincare line! When used immediately after procedures such as Photo Facial, Intense Recovery Oil acts instantly to eliminate pain and irritation from the tissue. This enables us to go on about normal business and continue with our personal lives, expediting recovery time two-to-three times faster than without it. We have now discovered it helps to recover from silly burns we get while cooking delicious meals. I keep a jar of Intense Recovery Oil by the side of my stove for moments like that, since I never know when my arm will hit the hot rack from the oven. Sometimes, the best things come as a surprise! I realized early on that a vital step in maintaining a healthy, youthful, and energetic lifestyle was interaction with sunlight and nutrients. I started looking for ways to strengthen skin for the duration of needed sun exposure, to allow for the body to convert essential nutrients drawn from the sun without limiting the time out. This is how the concept of seasonal serums was born. The mission was to create a formula that would address the seasonal light changes, as every season has different sunlight strengths and angles, but allow us to interact

with the sunlight intelligently. Understanding the system of our bodies and skin having different functional assignments within each season, we see the sophistication of our skins natural functions and needs. I took on this challenge and looked back on how our ancestors dealt with these issues before there was modern skincare to buy. I found that each era had different ways of approaching self-care. Historically, I found that we used clays to protect skin during long days under the sun. Based on these ancient sciences, Replete contains extracts of specific clays combined with other proprietary seasonal extracts from three-thousand foot depths of pure ocean water that is free of current day pollution. This water’s consistency and richness of nutrients closely resemble the amniotic fluid in which we are formed, a magical formulation of regeneration. In these approaches, Replete becomes the perfect combination of nature and science. With this kind of thinking, I have been able to create 11 formulations to date that are available from Replete Skincare. I am now able to take long hikes without worrying about either overexposure or insufficient sun exposure. My skin is stronger, denser, and more resilient because I directly feed the skin the vital nutrients that it needs. I feel that now I am able to see my skin function as it was designed to. Skin has its own intelligence for repair, assimilation, breathing, and detoxification as long as we do not interfere with its natural role in our system of organs. We must remember that skin has an important role in our overall well-being, and we need to be respectful of that. For that reason, I designed formulas that assist our skin in the roles it has for each season and between day and night. The must haves for the month of April are the Spring Serum, followed by the Intense Recovery at night, and the Lip Restore to assist in a smooth transition from winter months to sunny spring.

All products are free of allergens, fragrance, coloring, animal testing, parabens, and glycols. All vegan food quality ingredients. Safe for children under 3 years of age. Replete is EU certified.

WOMEN OF THE MONTH

Dream a little dream... Susan Liebesman, profession: talent scout and dream believer by Joyce Darkoh

Whenever Susan Liebesman packs up to attend one of the biggest model and talent events nationwide, she carries along a good handful, carefully chosen talents along that have potential to reach stardom. One could easily state her profession simply as talent scouting, but when asked, she would say that her job is to making dreams come true. “The hardest part of what I do is making people see what I see”, Susan says. “My job would be easier if people saw their own potential. If parents would see what potential I see in their children.” The phone never stands still at the Barbizon agency in an industrial area close to Philadelphia, PA. You can hear laughter and music coming out of one of the study rooms, where young kids are taught by experienced model coaches how to work the catwalk, while more parents are entering the building on a daily basis hoping that their child’s talent will withstand Susan’s critical judgment. And Susan is indeed an expert in evaluating whether someone`s “got it” or not. She started her career at the age of 9 when her mother, who was already modeling for Barbizon, enrolled her in the local Barbizon Agency, which at that time did not offer a child program. She loved the stage and spent most of her high school time modeling, acting or hosting fashion shows. Thinking back she says: “It was fun, I made

114

good money and had a lot of great experiences. It wasn’t until I graduated college that I had a true understanding of how important development and life skill training really is.” Susan invested in her selffulfillment by working for magazines, producing and hosting pageant shows within the Miss USA system, and producing Fashion Week shows for MB. In 1993, she turned her passion for discovering young talents and guiding through the process of becoming a star into her profession, when she became Director of Barbizon of Philadelphia, with a special child program to discover and develop skills at an early age. Then, in 2010, Susan founded B2B Management, a management company for selected creative talents such as production company Adam Group Productions, models including cover girl Christina Makowski, actors, artist Illmatic Scream and the Fashion label DARKOH. In her little spare time, Susan Liebesman spends guiding and managing her own daughter’s career. As a single mother of a teenager with incredible talent, she often finds herself flying all over the country to accompany her daughter to castings and filming, or support her in her pageant work. “This wasn’t my choice for her, I know how hard the industry can be,” Susan smiles,” she always enjoyed acting, and modeling , so it might be in her genes. Most days I think she would rather act than breathe air!”

SPRING FASHION ISSUE 2016

The days start early and end late for this modern super woman, and there is barely a minute where she can put her phone or laptop aside or plan a short vacation. Juggling staff, new talents, responding to emails and calls, while maintaining a halfway normal family life for her daughter demands precise time management and multi-tasking skills on high levels. Bad days occur but a positive attitude and a wide spread of network often prevents total disasters without people who are involved even knowing about them.

And even though things just don’t go as planned sometimes, and plan B to K become active, Susan would always chose this life again. “Seeing my talents succeed by winning prizes or getting hired for major jobs, is making me love my job. When these kids and their parents start to see the talent that I initially saw when they walked into this building, that is all I need to gain energy after a long period of preparation. The skills they learn carry over to every aspect of their life.” Wíth these words, Susan returns to her desk to prepare for one of the most important events at the agency, a gathering of invited international talent scouts in search for new fresh faces invited by Barbizon Chique. And we realize that the world would be empty without magicians and believers like Susan Liebesman in hope she will eventually get some rest in the near future. If you believe in your skills or in your child’s talent, then email Susan at susan@b2bmgmnt. MONTHLY MENSWEAR

Men and Fashion:

the revolutionary change

by Joyce Darkoh

Menswear is the new womenswear. At least according to Toby Bateman, buyer at Mr. Porter, who predicts rising investments and profitable sales within the menswear industry. But, how has fashion consciousness increased among men? And how much do they invest in looking “alright,” actually? This month, we asked Proverbs Taylor a.k.a Illmatic Scream,, a former topmodel and hip-hop artist about his view on men and styling. Currently launching his own clothing label, we were curious what Proverbs had to say:

116

FSHN: How important is fashion / “dress to impress” to you? IS: Fashion is everything to me. It helps me articulate all the modes / styles as I present myself as an allaround artist. As a recording artist, actor, model, designer and visual artist, I use fashion to distinguish my attitude and mood everyday. I don’t dress to impress, I dress to communicate my swag.

ers. The other outfit that comes to mind is my custom made silk red Darkoh suit.

FSHN: Describe your favorite outfit. IS: My favorite outfit is anything from my line, “Lord By God, Mr. Dope.” One that comes to mind is my “pop inspired” hand painted leather jacket paired with my embellished Gucci pants and Louis Vuitton sneak-

Ilmatic Scream aka supermodel Proverbs Taylor New York, NY

FSHN: How much money do you spend on clothes per month in average? IS: I spend anywhere from $300 to $5,000 depending on what I need for my career. There is no price limit. It’s about having right look for the right mode.

MODEL OF THE MONTH

HENRIK THIEL @MODELWERK

134

SPRING FASHION ISSUE 2016

How I became a model ... First of all, I think we need to discuss the terminology of the word “model.” What is a model? Does it mean you are prettier than others? Are you more special and more interesting? Being a model is a great opportunity to discover many places and cultures around the world. You get to know lots of new personalities and your “book of life” that consists of all images that you collect gets bigger and bigger. Yeah, I definitely enjoy being a model and am grateful that this opportunity has been given to me. But at the same time, I want to point out that being a model does not mean that you are more attractive or interesting than others. I think everyone is a model, a model in his own way. Everyone has special features in the way they look and act. And everyone should be proud of the little things that differentiate himself from the others. If you take a closer look at the process (or maybe it is better that you don’t) from a raw file image to a finished edited image, I think you would fall off the chair. The editing of images is the movement from real to perfect life. Of course, it highlights special features like interesting cheekbones or beautiful eyes that helped you becoming a model. It creates an image of you that everybody wants to see, but doesn`t reflect the reality. The reason I am pointing this out is that everyone should feel like a model. We are all special and unique and the fine-tuning comes with Photoshop.

Originally, the editor of FSHN asked me to write something about my model career, so I will tell you a bit about this path, too: I am still surprised about my career, because I used to be a professional athlete and went to college. The last thing I was thinking about was modeling. And then, after my season in hockey, I decided to take time off from Germany and went to Portugal during my school break. I spent three months working as a sports entertainer at a Robinson Hotel, an unforgettable and amazing time. When I came back to Germany a model scout asked me if I want to try out modeling. My first reaction was, are you kidding me? Never, ever. I am an athlete and I eat what comes on my plate. But the next few days, I couldn’t forget his offer, so I motivated myself to do a test shoot in Munich. I enjoyed this shooting day so much that I gave it a chance. So, from that point on I was a student, athlete and a “model” (or rather artist). One year later, I had to stop my hockey career because of injuries. It was a very hard time for me; and when I look back, I am really happy that I had a second option next to my college, which was modeling. It was a nice way to finance my time in college and travel to Milan, London and Paris, just to name a few. One day a photographer advised me to go to New York because he saw great opportunities for me overseas. I let go of this thought and tried it. It was a hard but very interesting journey but I am very glad that I did it. After I graduated in science of sports, I moved to New York, a city that is full of adventures and has made me find love...

LOVE

What‘s Your Orientation? by Jason Martineau

In this new era of love, relationships, sex, and the internet, there have been new words evolving to help people define themselves. Once upon a time, you had the option of describing yourself as heterosexual or homosexual, monogamous or non-monogamous. Later came words to define people in open relationships who are polyamorous, as well as an assortment of terms to describe gender identities and sexual orientations in greater detail – such as transgender, transsexual, bisexual, bi-curious, queer, and so on. It would seem that love is becoming more complex as the population increases and subcultures diversify. Ideally all of these words would help to ensure that the right types of people are finding each other. Just as has happened in the music industry, where once there were maybe 10 genres of music you could find at a record or CD store, now there are well over 100. One has only to look on iTunes. I recently came upon 8 terms, some of which were new to me, and I suspect they might be new to some of you as well. We can look at many of these with respect to gender preference, gender identification, and degree of capacity for emotional vs. sexual connection. There are more of these terms out there, but these can get us started in asking deeper questions about our own preferences and style. Before we begin, I want to state that I support the respectful treatment of and positive regard for people of any gender type and sexual preference. Good, now that that’s clear, we can begin: Asexual – As you might suspect, this is a person who identifies as someone who just isn’t really into sex. Some will tell you they can experience emotional attraction, others will tell you it means there is just no attraction that arises within them for anyone. Hey, not everyone’s into sex, and that’s okay. Good company is highly underrated.

138

Demisexual – This type prefers to have an emotional connection prior to there being any sexual activity. The emotional connection is the gateway to the physical connection. Some of you may actually already be that way, and if you didn’t know, now you have a word for it. Often people predicate a connection on attraction and sex before getting to know each other well and developing feelings, so this is rather the opposite. The demisexual approach may not be a bad idea if you want to be cautious with your heart. Sapiosexual – Just like the scientific name for the human species, Homo sapiens (wise person), “sapio-” refers to intelligence as being the quality to which this type of person is attracted. Maybe we all like a little cleverness in our partners, but the sapiosexual is completely focused here, and largely verbal in their relating style. For them, a philosophical discussion is as hot as foreplay. Solve a quadratic equation in front of them, and you may just have landed your soulmate. Pansexual – This person can become attracted to anyone, regardless of gender or orientation. You might ask how this is different from being bisexual. The usual response is that they are first attracted to someone’s personality, and therefore do not really pay attention to gender at all. Also, bisexuals tend to still polarize around orientation, meaning that if you are a bisexual woman, you will be willing to have sex with straight men or straight (or bi) women. A pansexual is further willing to be intimate with a gay man, a lesbian, transgender; it doesn’t really matter. It’s all about the personality. Heteroflexible – Consider this a shade of bisexual, although in this case the person is predominantly heterosexual, but is willing to occasionally have a dalliance or hookup with someone of the same sex. A little experimentation now and then, perhaps, just to keep things interesting.

Homoflexible – You can probably figure this one out by now. This is another shade of bisexuality. In this case, we have someone who is predominantly homosexual, but will occasionally consider someone of the opposite sex for a partner (who is likely to be heterosexual). It seems bisexuality overall has several shades to it. Cissexual – Owing to the notion that the type of gender a person considers themselves to be on the inside may or may not match the gender they have been “assigned” or were born with on the outside (due to anatomical features), this term seeks to clarify that potential discrepancy in stating that their inner gender and outer gender do indeed match. “Cis-” means “on the same side” in Latin, as opposed to “trans-” (and thus, transsexual, where there is a mismatch between interior, experienced gender and exterior, assigned gender). It’s likely that if you are heterosexual, and clear about your gender, then you would fall into this category, though in that instance one wonders if such a term is truly necessary. We could just as well call you “straight,” but at least now it’s perfectly and utterly clear.

Questioning – Not an unusual word per se, though in this brave, new world of gender complexity, contrary to “bi-curious,” this term points to someone who is not only questioning who they are attracted to, but is also questioning their own gender identity (back to the cis-/trans- dichotomy). You might say that this person can choose from any of these orientations, once they’ve sorted things out. We could maybe call them cis-trans-flexible-sexual. There are more terms out there, and I didn’t include the more familiar ones that have been around for a long time. I do hope that some of these have been illuminating. Clearly there seem to be many different types of attraction, styles of love, and gender orientations, and the list is growing. Maybe this is good news for the future of love and sex. In an increasingly liberal and accepting overall cultural climate, there is room for ever yone to be whoever each truly feels themselves to be, and in turn, to find others just like them. In the end, what is important is to know ourselves as best as we can. What’s your orientation?

the sound of

SWEDEN

by Murat Karabey

Dear readers, I have had the pleasure to travel to Sweden quite a few times, and I would like to share my impressions of this amazing piece of earth. Sweden is sparsely populated. You can drive for hours without entering a city or village. But when you meet locals while shopping, in restaurants or on any other occasions, you will most likely be met with gentle reservation. This polite distance, however, turns into helpful kindness as soon as you ask Swedish people for help. I have never felt more comfortable in a country before than while in Sweden. The landscape is full of untouched and green nature, and the air in the broad forests wraps around you like a rejuvenating treatment. One can indulge in enjoying the silence and fascinating nature while doing a boat ride or walking along the strand. I can assure you that a trip to Sweden will help to calm youi down and help you find your inner peace, especially if you are forced to do some life changing decisions. The purity of this amazing country will have a positive influence on any turns you take. by Murat Karabey

De Martino Twins Niki & Gabriella by Megan Larson

Niki and Gabriella DeMartino are a dynamic duo who got their start on YouTube. They posted their first video in 2012 and now have over two million subscribers. They started making videos in high school for fun and it blossomed from there. Being in the limelight can be hard with haters, but they have amazing support from their fans, the DeMar Dolls. The twins are known for their fashion and makeup trends. They balance their personal and professional lives by not spreading themselves too thin. They say it is important to leave some time for yourself. Their favorite video they have done together is “How to Deal with Mean Girls in High School.” Even though they are twins, some things set them apart. Gabriella’s style is girly chic and she loves Too Faced eye shadows. Her style inspiration comes from Chanel on Scream Queens. She always has her phone charger in her purse and can’t leave the house without her phone. She loves the fur coat trend from 2015 and hopes it continues into 2016. In her spare time she loves to do her makeup and shop. Niki’s style is more edgy and relaxed. She loves Kat Von D lipstick and always has sunglasses in her purse. She likes Shay Mitchell’s style, but really goes with whatever. Her favorite trend from 2015 is Triangl Bikinis and she hopes they stay popular in 2016. In her spare time she loves to binge on Netflix. It’s no surprise that the twins love their fans! They are open books on their social media, so their fans can be connected as possible. The best place to stay up to date with them is on Twitter and Instagram. The advice they have for their fans is to be true to yourself because your happiness matters. The DeMartino twins have seen a lot of changes in the past two years, so it is hard to tell where they will be in the next five. They have more music, acting, and videos in store for 2016. The future looks bright and the sky is the limit for this dynamic duo.

Golden

Cage Once upon a time I lived in a Golden Cage. This cage was a twenty thousand square feet beautiful custom built mansion. Each bedroom was a suite. It even had a suite for the help. My enormous bedroom had a wall of windows overlooking the lake. We had two living rooms, one on the first floor and one walked out to the lake. There were rooms for everything you could think of and a kitchen with every gadget you could imagine. It had an indoor pool, a workout room, a basketball court, a five-car garage, a boat launch, and huge manicured front and back yards. My Golden Cage was the biggest mansion in a community of mansions with a golf course on one side and a lake on the other.

by Veera Mahajan

My husband and I bought this house when we were 37 and 35 years old. We had just sold a software company we had started in our early twenties. We worked hard, and, in a short time, everything turned out the way we had hoped and better than we expected. We had a new software and engineering firm that we named after our two beautiful sons. My husband was the CEO and I was the President of the company. Our sons attended the best private school in the city, we lived in a dream house in an elite community and we travelled around the world in first class. All that ended one day seven years ago when I told him, “I have been thinking of leaving you,” and walked away. It would be the last time he would ever hit my son. When I saw him hitting my almost 18-year-old son who was crying and begging him to stop, I realized he would never let my son grow into an independent man if he continued to treat him like that. That was the turning point in my life. I had to do something. I had been begging him for 14 years to stop hurting my children and me. Now, I was done asking. I had to take control in my hands. I had to leave. When people heard about our separation, they couldn’t understand. Everyone said, “But you looked as if you lived like a queen.” Yes, most of the time, I did live like a queen. Our family looked like a model family. I had a husband who said he loved me every day and showered me with gifts. We were successful in business. I had two wonderful sons. We had a house envied by most. I was allowed to live like a queen when my husband was in a good mood. All the luxury felt like a curse when he was in his horrible moods and made my sons and me feel helpless and homeless. He would become angry at the smallest things. Sometimes, we did not even know what angered him. He would kick my young son out in the snow and ice in bare feet and would not let me bring him back in. When he was drunk and my sick child asked him for a little care, what he got instead was a beating for bothering him. When I asked him to stop, he beat me. My other son, terrified, would try to save me, only to be beaten too. Sometimes, when we look back, we wonder how did we let it get so out of control? How did we allow a man to beat all three of us at the same time?

Domestic violence has many faces. It does not discriminate; regardless of age, gender, race, economic status or background, anyone can be a victim – or a perpetrator – of abuse. Since February 1996, the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) has provided support and resources to women, men and children affected by domestic violence and dating abuse. By calling 1-800799-SAFE (7233) or chatting live at www.thehotline. org, anyone can be connected to a trained advocate who will listen compassionately and offer options for safety planning, legal aid, counseling or shelter.

Twenty years ago, The Hotline answered its first call from a woman seeking resources and information about domestic violence. Twenty years later, it has answered more than 3.8 million calls, chats and text messages from people affected by abuse. Though the organization stands ready to face its future, this year it will reflect on what it has accomplished over the past two decades with events in Austin, Texas, Washington D.C., New York and San Francisco. FOOD

CHICKEN'N

APPLE by Elisabeth Thieriot

4 chicken breasts 4 organic Fuji apples 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter 1 ½ teaspoons of salt

1. First peel the apple skin, remove the core and cut the apples into slices. Next, heat 4 tablespoons of butter in a large nonstick skillet over low heat. Add the apples and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden around the edges. Take them out of the skillet and keep them warm in a separate dish. 2. Butterfly the chicken breasts, so that they are thinner and cook faster. Place into the same large nonstick skillet with the remain butter and apple juice mixture over high heat. Cook until no longer pink in the center and golden on the edges, roughly 2 to 3 minutes per side. 3. Serve with the apples on top. Add sea salt to taste.
