We warmly invite you to the second Northern Exposure Shorthorn Bull & Female Sale, a collaboration between three passionate Shorthorn studs from Central and North Western New South Wales.
The bulls in this offering have been carefully developed with northern producers in mind. As weaners and yearlings, they were grown out on crop before transitioning to tropical and lucerne pastures, building a foundation of growth, resilience and adaptability that carries right through this draft. This reflects the direction and commitment of our three studs - focused on functionality, fertility, performance and longevity. Regardless of age, every bull has been selected for his structural soundness, docility, and potential to add long-term value to any breeding program.
This year’s sale bulls have been grazing together on an oats crop at Jambin, Queensland since the beginning of June. They have settled in well to tick country and are accustomed to the northern conditions. Their time together has also ensured sound socialisation and co-mingling, making them well-suited to multi-bull operations.
Also on offer are a small number of select stud and commercial females, each backed by decades of breeding focused on functionality, fertility, and maternal strength.

STUD INFORMATION
Southern Cross Shorthorns is a family-run stud based at Coonabarabran, where Lonnie and Nic Stone, along with their children Lacey, Hooper and Jett, have been proudly breeding Shorthorns for over 20 years. We’re a family that works together, with a shared focus on producing the kind of cattle we’d be happy to put in our own paddock. We’re proud of what we’ve built as a family and are excited to share a piece of it with you.
TROJON Shorthorns are located in Lyndhurst NSW where Trent & Kimberly with children Havana and Arley run a stud and commercial enterprise consisting of some 400 cows. Trent has been involved in cattle breeding all of his life and is very passionate about the future of shorthorns, both in the seed stock and cross breeding industries.
Ronelle Park Shorthorns is owned by Janelle Johnstone. Located in Garland NSW. A stud enterprise that has been in existence for over 40 years. Currently carrying some 200 breeders. Achieved record price bull in 2023 at Shorthorn National with Ronelle Park Slurpie at $106,000 & top priced female at 2025 Shorthorn National with $16,000 for a 9 month old heifer. Emphasis remains on better enhancement of genetics for seed stock production & Ronelle Park is not afraid to outsource genetics through purchase, AI & embryo transplant.

Understanding IGS EPD’s
Calving Ease Direct (CE-D): Reported as the percentage of extra unassisted births in 4rst calving heifers, relative to the average. CE-D is relative to the direct Calving Ease of the animal. Higher values are more favourable.
Milk: Reported as pounds of weaning weight of progeny from the animals daughters, relative to the average. Predicts the difference in maternal production of daughters relative to milk production and mothering.
Values are relative to the environment of the production system. Low input environments should be very conscious of introducing too much milk due to the increased nutrient requirements that it can place on cows.
Docility: Reported as the percentage of progeny, relative to the average, that will record a score of docile. Higher values are more favourable.
GROWTH EPD’S
Birth Weight: Reported in pounds of birth weight relative to the average. When selecting bulls to use on heifers, breeders should also focus on the Calving Ease EPD as Birthweight is already used in the Calving Ease EPD calculation.
Weaning Weight – Adjusted to 205 Days: Reported in pounds of weaning weight of direct progeny, relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable dependant on its relationship with birthweight.

CARCASE
EPD’S – ADJUSTED TO 475 DAYS OF AGE.
Carcase Weight: Reported as pounds of Carcase Weight relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable, however this is relevant to each producers target market.
Rib Eye Area: Reported as square inches relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable.
Fat: Reported as inches of back fat relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable, however this is requires a balance between adequate doing ability in daughters and carcase fat thresholds for target markets.
Marble Score: Reported as the differences in actual carcase marble scores relative to the average. This is different to IMF% which is used as an indicator trait in Marble Score. Higher values are more favourable.
All Purpose $Index – Api: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ Indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ Indexes blend EPD’s and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line.
The All Purpose $Index (API) evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd, bred to both 4rst-calf heifers and mature cows, with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put onto feed and marketed for both quality grade and yield.
UNDERSTANDING ACCURACIES
BOLT EPD accuracies have experienced the most change, usually lowering numerically and especially for non- parent animals, however the reported accuracy will be more accurate.
Accuracy refers to the amount a reported EPD can possibly change as more data is added. EPD values with higher accuracy result in less possible change for the value over time. More accurate accuracies better represent the amount of possible change for each EPD.
All bulls have been semen & morphology tested.

1. Buying number system will be in operation at the sale. All prospective purchasers must register at Agents office.
2. GST will be applied on fall of hammer to purchase price.
3. NLIS - all cattle will have their NLIS buttons & will be transferred to successful purchaser number by selling agent at completion of sale.
4. Disclaimer - the vendors & agents do not give any warranty as to errors & omissions (if any) in these particulars which they believe to be accurate when compiled.
5. Public Liability - any person attending the sale does so at their own risk. All persons attending release the vendors from all actions or demands due to any loss, death, damage or injury occurring to any person attending the sale.
6. Indemnity - all persons attending the sale agree to indemnify the vendors from & against any liability, loss, damage, expense or claim, including to a third party during or after the sale.
7. In the interest of buyers & to prevent the occurrence of mistakes all instructions concerning the delivery & trucking of animals & insurance thereon must be given in writing to the agent. Such instructions are to be signed by the buyer or their representative.
8. It is a condition of sale that vendors warrant that all bulls are to be sold as fertile & capable of natural service within 6 months of date of sale.
9. The vendors shall refund to the purchaser the purchase price ( excluding any costs or expense of the purchaser) upon the purchaser providing the vendor within 6 months of sale date
a) a report from a licensed veterinarian certifying that in their opinion the bull is infertile or incapable of natural service.
b) There is no such evidence that the bull has suffered any injury or illness subsequent to being sold to purchaser which could affect his breeding ability.
c) A statutory declaration from the purchaser warranting that in the opinion of the purchaser the facts stated in the veterinarians report are true & correct.
10. It is a condition of sale that vendors warrant that all females catalogued & sold as unjoined are fertile to natural service within 12 months of sale date.
11. The vendors shall refund to the purchaser the purchase price ( excluding any costs or expense of the purchaser) upon the purchaser providing the vendor within 12 months of sale date
a) A report from a licensed veterinarian certifying that in their opinion there is no evidence that the female suffered any injury or illness subsequent to being sold to the purchaser which could have affected her breeding ability & there is no evidence that the female has been subjected to embryo transfer procedures.
b) A statutory declaration from the purchaser warranting that in the opinion of the purchaser the facts stated in the. Veterinarians report are true & correct.
