Extending a warm invitation -
Northern Exposure represents three shorthorn studs from central New South Wales.
Having sold cattle across Queensland through different venues and with many paddock sales over the years, we decided to join forces with the three studs and launch our own sale event.
The bulls we are offering in this sale have been grazing together on an oats crop in Thangool, Queensland. They are naturally conditioned and ready to go straight out to work. Prior to heading to Queensland they were pasture or cropped grazed and supplemented with pellets and hay through dryer periods.
Recent sale successes, where sires purchased from us topped the charts, underscore the benefits of crossing Shorthorn bulls with Bos indicus cattle.
Shorthorn-infused cattle have shown remarkable performance in prime and carcass competitions. If you’re looking to improve grading and tap into new beef markets, now is the time to consider introducing Shorthorns. We believe we have the products to support your goals in this venture.

Southern Cross, often referred to as SXS, is situated east of Coonabarabran in Purlewaugh. Lonnie and Nic Stone have dedicated 20 years to breeding shorthorn cattle, alongside their three children: Lacey, Hooper and Jett. They manage a breeding herd of 100 Shorthorn cows. Lonnie is also well known in cattle circles for his ultrasound work with Southern Cross Scanning, serving cattle herds across the country for over 15 years.
TROJON Shorthorns is situated in Lyndhurst, NSW, where Trent Johnstone, alongside his wife Kimberly and children Havana and Arley, operate a stud and commercial enterprise in the Shorthorn breed. With a lifelong dedication to cattle, Trent is deeply passionate about the breed’s remarkable qualities in both seed stock and crossbreeding programs. Managing approximately 400 breeders, he is optimistic about the future and welcomes you to join the journey he and his young family are undertaking.
Ronelle Park Shorthorns is owned by Janelle Johnstone, Trent’s mother, in Garland, NSW. This established stud enterprise has thrived for over 40 years, currently overseeing approximately 200 breeders. While Janelle has been involved in various businesses, her primary focus now lies with cattle. She strives to enhance genetic quality for seed stock production using her own bulls and is open to sourcing genetics through purchases, AI, embryo transplants, and venturing into IVF this year.

We run all Brahman breeders, as they are a breed that will survive in the dry times and will climb the hills to get a feed. We use roan shorthorn bulls in our crossbreeding program to get the F1 calves. The F1 calves are raised to produce jap ox and the heifers go into the MSA trade market. The F1 calves grow faster and have a good fat coverage. There is a big future in cross breeding with shorthorn cattle to improve any breed. The calves are born small and they grow fast. The first cross out of Brahman cows works very well in our program because we are in a very bad tick area.

Conqueror Milling Company has been manufacturing high-quality stockfeed and vegetable protein meal for a range of Australian and international markets since 1984.
Our product range includes pellets and licks specially formulated for beef, dairy, sheep, horses, poultry and alpacas, with products available in 20 kg bags, one-tonne ‘bulka’ bags and in bulk.
Understanding IGS EPD’s
Calving Ease Direct (CE-D): Reported as the percentage of extra unassisted births in 4rst calving heifers, relative to the average. CE-D is relative to the direct Calving Ease of the animal. Higher values are more favourable.
Milk: Reported as pounds of weaning weight of progeny from the animals daughters, relative to the average. Predicts the difference in maternal production of daughters relative to milk production and mothering.
Values are relative to the environment of the production system. Low input environments should be very conscious of introducing too much milk due to the increased nutrient requirements that it can place on cows.
Docility: Reported as the percentage of progeny, relative to the average, that will record a score of docile. Higher values are more favourable.
GROWTH EPD’S
Birth Weight: Reported in pounds of birth weight relative to the average. When selecting bulls to use on heifers, breeders should also focus on the Calving Ease EPD as Birthweight is already used in the Calving Ease EPD calculation.
Weaning Weight – Adjusted to 205 Days: Reported in pounds of weaning weight of direct progeny, relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable dependant on its relationship with birthweight.
Yearling Weight – Adjusted to 365 Days: Reported in pounds of yearling weight of direct progeny, relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable dependant on its relationship with birthweight.
CARCASE
EPD’S – ADJUSTED TO 475 DAYS OF AGE.
Carcase Weight: Reported as pounds of Carcase Weight relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable, however this is relevant to each producers target market.
Rib Eye Area: Reported as square inches relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable.
Fat: Reported as inches of back fat relative to the average. Higher values are usually more favourable, however this is requires a balance between adequate doing ability in daughters and carcase fat thresholds for target markets.
Marble Score: Reported as the differences in actual carcase marble scores relative to the average. This is different to IMF% which is used as an indicator trait in Marble Score. Higher values are more favourable.
All Purpose $Index – Api: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ Indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ Indexes blend EPD’s and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line.
The All Purpose $Index (API) evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd, bred to both 4rst-calf heifers and mature cows, with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put onto feed and marketed for both quality grade and yield.
UNDERSTANDING ACCURACIES
BOLT EPD accuracies have experienced the most change, usually lowering numerically and especially for non- parent animals, however the reported accuracy will be more accurate.
Accuracy refers to the amount a reported EPD can possibly change as more data is added. EPD values with higher accuracy result in less possible change for the value over time. More accurate accuracies better represent the amount of possible change for each EPD.
All bulls have been semen & morphology tested.

a) a report from a licensed veterinarian certifying that in their opinion the bull is infertile or incapable of natural service.
b) There is no such evidence that the bull has suffered any injury or illness subsequent to being sold to purchaser which could affect his breeding ability.
c) A statutory declaration from the purchaser warranting that in the opinion of the purchaser the facts stated in the veterinarians report are true & correct.
10. It is a condition of sale that vendors warrant that all females catalogued & sold as unjoined are fertile to natural service within 12 months of sale date.
11. The vendors shall refund to the purchaser the purchase price ( excluding any costs or expense of the purchaser) upon the purchaser providing the vendor within 12 months of sale date
