R&D

INTRODUCTION

To help meet the world’s growing demand for food and nutrition and to improve the productivity of smallholder farmers, East-West Seed focuses on variety development of tropical vegetables. Our aim is to produce new, improved varieties with better yield, ability to thrive in changing conditions, resistance to pests and diseases, and traits that are attractive to vegetable consumers. Over the years, we have developed some outstanding products that hit a homerun among farmers and consumers, and in many ways, transformed the market.

East-West Seed devotes significant investments yearly to R&D, for research and technology development utilizing

cutting-edge technologies that enable our plant breeders and researchers to develop new varieties at a faster rate with better efficiency and accuracy. We utilize a combination of conventional breeding techniques and application of new technologies such as the use of molecular markers and tissue culture to help plant breeders achieve their goal of developing and selecting the best plants with the ideal plant characteristics. We also maintain strong partnerships with research institutes and universities to better understand the mechanisms of pest-plant interactions and develop detection protocols and management strategies.

TECHNOLOGIES SEED

Recent trends in the market demand more innovative products. East-West Seed focuses on the latest seed technology, recognizing that seed quality starts from seed production to maintain better seed quality like vigor and longevity. We work on applying innovative seed treatments and seed health research to ensure better quality products for our customers.

Our seed production team has implemented the quality management system (ISO 9001) for the main production

countries since 2004. Our Quality Assurance laboratories in Thailand, Indonesia and India have been accredited by the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) since 2009, 2012 and 2021 respectively for sampling, physical purity & other seed determination and germination.

Furthermore, East-West Seed has a comprehensive end to end traceability system, where every commercial seed can be traced throughout the production and processing process, assuring our customers of quality at every step.
