New Zealand Sales Director appointed to drive iconic non-alcohol drinks portfolio

Suntory Beverage & Food Oceania has announced Deb Cooper as Sales Director, New Zealand. Ms Cooper's appointment comes as the company works towards the launch of its new A$3B partnership, Suntory Oceania with sister company Suntory Global Spirits.

With responsibility for the New Zealand sales team, Deb Cooper will drive the non-alc portfolio, working with iconic brands such as V Energy, Suntory BOSS Coffee, and Gatorade.

Having been a part of the Suntory business for over a decade, Deb has an impressive track record in grocery, leisure, and route channels, with her most recent role being Head of Petrol and Convenience (P&C) at Suntory Beverage & Food, Australia.

This includes leading teams in global businesses Drinkworks and Fonterra, with Deb bringing her extensive knowledge and passion for the industry to the New Zealand market.

“Deb's exceptional leadership, customer-centric approach and energy has enabled our business to go from strength to strength in Australia, transforming category growth and delivering unrivalled recognition within the P&C channel. Her extensive FMCG experience positions her well to drive growth and innovation in this market."

On her appointment, Deb Cooper said, "I'm thrilled to be joining the thriving New Zealand commercial team and am looking forward to fostering new partnerships and working with our customers to drive innovation and shape strategic growth."

Ms Cooper's appointment comes ahead of the business's exclusive launch of American energy giant Celsius, which she calls a "game changer".

"This provides the opportunity to strengthen our position in the category and demonstrate the expertise and leadership we have across the entire energy segment. We're looking forward to launching this new product in New Zealand in September."

The Suntory Oceania partnership is set to go live in Australia in mid-2025 and in New Zealand from January 2026.

Celebrating Success

The New Zealand Association of Convenience Stores hosted their annual awards night in July, an event dedicated to celebrating excellence among retailers and suppliers within the industry.

Suntory Oceania is proud and honoured to have been recognised as the Supreme Supplier at the NZ Association of Convenience Stores annual awards. This esteemed accolade, along with the award for Best Head Office Service and Support (Large Supplier), underscores the commitment and hard work of our team members: Katherine Ledger, Robyn Wake, Lauren Etherington, and Teresa Lawry.

Katherine Ledger, Head of Petrol & Convenience, noted, “This is a significant achievement resulting from a great deal of hard work, made possible by the support of our exceptional field team and our dedicated internal business partners.”

Announced during the evening was that Lauren Etherington and Robyn Wake received nominations for the Key Account Manager of the Year award. While they did not secure the win, their nominations reflect their remarkable skills and contributions to their customers.

In conjunction with the NZ Association of Convenience Stores awards, the Peter Jowett Scholarship awards were also presented. Suntory Oceania proudly had two finalists, Annabel McDonald and Annabel Wylie, who delivered their final presentations to an audience of Convenience Head Office Retailers and Suppliers.

The Peter Jowett Scholarship provides a platform for individuals in the Petrol and Convenience channel to showcase

innovative ideas that could potentially transform the sector. A total of six finalists, representing both retailers and suppliers, presented on the topic “How AI Could Revolutionise Convenience Retailers to Enhance Customer Convenience and Operational Efficiency.”

We are delighted to share that Annabel Wylie earned the runner-up award, which includes a trip to Adelaide to explore new ideas and trends in an alternate convenience market.

Katherine Ledger expressed, “Both Annabels should be immensely proud of their achievements. We certainly are, and they have represented Suntory Oceania exceptionally well.”
