This debut edition graces its cover with *Sultanat - The Golden Era*, a collection by the king of couture, HSY. What inspired you to recreate Bibo Jaan’s look from Heera Mandi?
Besides the phenomenal performance of Aditti Rao Hyderi, it’s my love for Sanjay Leena Bhansali Sahab that inspired me to recreate this look. I have been admiring Sanjay Leela Bhansali Sahab to the core since my childhood. I hope and pray that my tribute finds him and maybe in future I work with him, fingers crossed
What was the most difficult part of embodying Bibo Jaan’s character through makeup?
It was the face, Aditti Rao Hyderi has diamond shape face and mine is round hence I had to do a lot of contorting to shape my face. Other than that, it was sheer joy.
Howdidyouapproachthe challengeofnotjustthe makeup,butalsothecostume andjewelryforthis transformation? Iamanobserverbydefault.I lookateverythingcloselyand whenIrecreatealook,Iwork reallyhardtomanage everythingthatisneededfor thelook.Itisimportantto understandthatonlymakeup cannotcreatethecomplete look,itrequiresoutfit, accessories,propsandlocation aswell.Hence,Iputmyheart andsoulineachrequirement toperfectalook.
How long did it take to perfect the entire transformation, from makeup to wardrobe?
It takes me a month or two, from observing the facial expressions, making the dress and jewelry, practice. Shoot on the other hand is just a couple of hours’ game.
If you could do makeup for any celebrity, living or dead, who would it be?
I wish I could do Late Pakistani film star Madam Rani jee’smakeup and that too when she was shooting for Umrao Jaan Ada. According to me she was the most beautiful woman this world had seen.
If you could recreate another character from Heera Mandi, who would it be and why?
I loved Lajjo’s character, and honestly, Richa Chadda made the character unforgettable. If there is another character from Heer Mandi to be recreated, it would sure be that.
After such a detailed transformation, do you find it hard to “let go” of the character, or is it easy to switch back to reality?
To me, it takes longer to get into a character than to come out of it. So overall it’s more or less two months.

Do you believe makeup is art, therapy, or both? Its an Art, hands down.
What’s the most challenging makeup look you’ve ever created?
Creating Madam Noor Jahan’s look was the most challenging. Her class, her posture, her aesthetics…. Everything had to be on point. She was a legend for a reason.
What do you do to unwind after a long day at the studio or shoot? A good cuppa coffee, Netflix and chill.
What’s one makeup trend you wish would never come back?
Dark lipsticks and dark makeup on brides. I wish that trend never comes back.
If you had to describe your makeup style in words, what would they be?
Minimalistic. Realistic. Flawless.
What’s your go-to product for a quick glam look?
I got four go-to products actually; lips and cheek tint, eyelash curler, eyebrow gel, and transparent gloss
