This year brings all the familiar feelings of Fringe to even more places - from Tarragon to Theatre Passe Muraille to the new VideoCabaret venue in Leslieville. From July 2-13,

PATRON SERVICES

Venue Guides help prepare you for your visit to one of our venues. They include written directions to the venue, photos of the venue, and a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the building. Guides are available on our website for all main and satellite venues.

All points of service at the Fringe are equipped with fidget toys, earplugs, magnifying tools, and pen and paper. The Festival Box Office in the courtyard at 50 Tank House Lane has additional sensory kit items (fidget toys, ear defenders, sunglasses, lap pad) available to borrow.

SUPPORT PERSON

Staff and volunteers receive training on serving patrons with disabilities, however, we are always striving to do better. We encourage you to send us feedback, positive or negative, by contacting our Patron Services Manager at patron.manager@fringetoronto.com.

Where a support person is required to accompany patrons with disabilities, admission to all Fringe performances and events is free for the accompanying person. Every attending patron and accompanying support person must have a valid ticket to that performance or event. Please advise the box office when you purchase your tickets.

SERVICE ANIMALS Service animals are welcome in all areas of Fringe venues that are open to the public. Please advise the box office when you purchase your tickets.

PRIORITY SEATING Patrons with access needs are requested to identify themselves to the venue’s Front of House Supervisor at least 25 minutes prior to performance start times. Priority seating cannot be guaranteed after general admission begins.

HOW DO I INDICATE ACCESSIBILITY NEEDS TO BOX OFFICE? Online: If you are a new ticket buyer at Fringe, you will be prompted to create a Fringe patron account. When filling out your details, please select from the list of Access Categories. If you have booked tickets with the Fringe before, simply log into your account and edit “My Account” where you can select from the list of Access Categories. Before finalizing your ticket purchase, you can provide notes on any additional access requirements.

Over the phone: The Patron Services Representative will be able to help you update the Access Categories associated with your patron account and will also ask if you have any additional access requirements for the performance(s) you are interested in attending.

ACCESS MEASURES Many Fringe shows provide additional access measures at select performances. Shows that have opted in will have an icon beside their listing in this guide. For detailed information about the type of accessible performance, please refer to fringetoronto.com/access. You can search our online show listings by Access Measure type. Last-minute changes do happen, so make sure to check our website for up-to-date information throughout the festival.

HOW TO FRINGE WHAT TO BRING Take the camper’s approach to your day at the Fringe and be prepared! We recommend packing a water bottle to stay hydrated, some snacks to keep you energized, and a sweater for when the sun goes down or the theatre AC goes on.

FESTIVAL HUB WELCOME TO OUR NEW HUB We are so excited to welcome you to our beautiful, new, east end hub and patio at Soulpepper Theatre. Located in the Distillery Historic District, Soulpepper Theatre is accessible by streetcar, bus, car, Wheel-Trans, and bike. Give yourself ample time to check out the great nearby stores and restaurants, and explore our new neighbourhood.

PASS PRICES A service fee per ticket is included in the price for each pass.

There are no additional fees to add advance tickets to a pass.

All passes are transferable and can be used for up to two tickets per performance. Book tickets on your pass in advance or use it for at-the-door tickets at all venues (subject to availability). Passes must be used in their entirety before a second pass can be purchased. There are no refunds for any unused portion of a pass.

FESTO CARDS Fringe Festo Cards are reusable smartcards that link to your Fringe patron account. Just like a Presto card for the TTC, load up your Festo card by purchasing individual tickets and/or a pass, and then “tap” your card at the door of the theatre to enter. Pick up a Festo card at the Festival Box Office at any time during the festival.

PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN TICKETS PILOT PROGRAM Fringe is exploring alternative ticketing models to offer more options to patrons and productions. Select performances of some shows will be offering PWYC tickets which allow the ticket buyer to determine the price they can afford.

REMINDERS All shows start on time. Set your clocks to Eastern Daylight Time.

No refunds. 100% of ticket revenue goes directly to the artists, so Toronto Fringe does not offer refunds on tickets or passes.

Double check that you are at the correct theatre. With 22 venues, it’s possible to get mixed up – find all the location details for your shows in your order confirmation email.

To be admitted to a performance, present the QR code in your ticket confirmation email to be scanned or tap your Festo Card.

Stay home if you feel sick, have any symptoms, or have had a recent close contact with COVID-19. The Fringe does not have understudies, so please take every precaution to protect our staff, volunteers, and artists from becoming ill.

There may be no latecomer admission to your show.

The Next Stage Series brings the curated excellence of the bespoke Next Stage Theatre Festival into our flagship summer event. This series enables production elevation and creative risk-taking by four talented companies who are poised and ready for their next stage.

The Next Stage Theatre Festival was established in 2008 as an elevated producing platform for artists who were graduating up from their emergence on Fringe stages and seeking meaningful opportunities to level up their productions. Next Stage is a platform to spotlight some of the most exhilarating and dynamic new ideas breaking onto the scene for audiences, critics, and industry leaders. It filled a hole in Toronto’s theatre activities in the winter months, heating up Factory Theatre (inside and out!) every January for over 10 years. Now it is on a pursuit to discover how it can continue to provide this vital Toronto theatre interchange that our sector and city deserve with essential stability.

These four companies set out on the path to Next Stage 2025 with us over two years ago, when they were selected in the spring of 2023. They have worked to develop the scripts and productions that will premiere on our stages this July for months, joining Toronto Fringe on an unprecedented journey of re-discovering the identity of Next Stage in a theatre sector changed deeply by the COVID-19 pandemic. From sparkling reality checks to wistfully bittersweet reflections, these works will move you to your core. They capture a moment in Canadian theatre that iterates the profound feelings that great plays can stir and leave long lingering impressions upon us. They are full of vitality and force that we are honoured to present to Toronto this summer.

In an attempt to grasp the loss of their friend, Laura Anne Harris (“Destiny, USA”, “Pitch Blonde”) weaves together stories of grief along with excerpts from Jordan’s writing, as she invites us all to join her universal experience of love and loss.

NEW YOUNG REVIEWERS

TEEN CREATORS UNIT

The Theatre Entrepreneurs’ Network and Training (TENT) Program was created in 2014 to address a growing need in theatre training: how to actually make theatre happen. Since its inception, TENT has served over 180 emerging artists by providing intensive training in the skills vital to making their work a reality and the business of being an independent artist, and by connecting them with some of Canada’s artistic innovators, leaders, and producers. TENT is made possible by the RBC Foundation.

The New Young Reviewers program is a workshop series and writing group for emerging theatre and performance reviewers. Open to participants ages 15 and up, this program introduces participants to the basics of theatre reviewing, helping them develop responses to Toronto Fringe and Next Stage performances, and explore creative creative approaches to criticism. New Young Reviewers is presented in partnership with Intermission Magazine.

The Teen Creators Unit is a youth arts program for teens aged 13-17. This program offers skills and insights into the art of theatremakers on and off stage, connecting participants with the creation of live performance. We invite young theatremakers to participate in workshops and conversations with professional theatre artists that cover various styles and facets of theatre creation, from writing, to acting, to design. OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS NEW PLAY CONTEST Sponsored by Neville Austin, the New Play Contest is an annual juried contest for playwrights with a new, previously unproduced play. The winner receives a bursary, as well as a free performance slot in the Toronto Fringe Festival.

ADAMS PRIZE FOR MUSICAL THEATRE Sponsored by the Pat and Tony Adams Freedom Fund for the Arts, the Adams Prize for Musical Theatre is an annual juried contest for composers and playwrights with a new, previously unproduced musical.

The winner of the 2025 Adams Prize is Iris (says goodbye) by Margot Greve and Ben Kopp.

24-HOUR PLAYWRITING CONTEST Sponsored by the Pat and Tony Adams Freedom Fund for the Arts, this contest is for anyone who has wanted to write a play but just needed a little encouragement and motivation!

It challenges new and experienced writers to create a script in 24 hours, while incorporating four secret elements that are announced when the contest begins.

The winner of the 2025 24-Hour Playwriting Contest is God is a tree, is my mother, is me by Spencer Jean Allder.
