[opening letter] April 12, 2018 Dear Commissioner Dunn and the Members of the Garrett’s Desert Inn Committee: It is our pleasure to submit our proposal and qualifications for your consideration.

Our family came into the lodging and hospitality business with the goal of creating a viable preservation plan for Los Poblanos Ranch, our family home since 1976. We are extremely passionate about New Mexico’s architecture, community and rich culture, and have devoted our lives to enriching and preserving it.

Building on what we have achieved at Los Poblanos, we see the Garrett’s Desert Inn Project as a unique opportunity to create another exciting destination that will attract new business to our state, engage the local community and accomplish the key objective of the State Land Office: to generate exponential revenue for the University of New Mexico.

Our work at Los Poblanos is the most compelling argument we can make for being the ideal partner on this project. Working together with Santa Fe based AOS Architects on our most recent development phase, we invested $10 million with the addition of 28 new guest rooms and the renovation of the 1934 historic dairy barns into a restaurant, retail space, offices and dedicated production facility for our lavender body products and artisan foods. It was the final phase of a long range plan effort. We have successfully emerged with Los Poblanos Historic Inn and Organic Farm being recognized as one of the great boutique lodging destinations in the southwest.

For the Garrett’s Desert Inn project, we have assembled a team of extremely talented, creative, and proven consultants to provide the highest level of design and development services. They are passionate about their craft and together we can bring creative, thoughtful, and executable solutions to the State of New Mexico. Los Poblanos, AOS Architects, and Rembe Design excel in every aspect of this project, from preservation and adaptive reuse to working with government agencies and community outreach. We are also excited to partner with two other prestigious creative organizations that will bring tremendous value to the project.

[executive summary] The Garrett’s Desert Inn Project presents the Rembe Family and Los Poblanos Hospitality Santa Fe LLC with a unique and exciting opportunity to leverage and build on many of the successes it was able to achieve with Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm. As a triple bottom line business, the mission was to create a reasonable rate of return for investors while achieving their goals with preservation, sustainability, and serving the community. In 2013, Los Poblanos and the Rembe Family were awarded the Trustees’ Emeritus Award for Excellence in the Stewardship of Historic Sites by the National Trust of Historic Preservation, recognizing its success in finding a viable for-profit solution for historic sites and activating them by engaging the public. Los Poblanos was recognized by Fodor’s as one of the Top 100 Hotels in the World and by Bon Appétit Magazine for the Top 10 Hotels in the U.S. for Food Lovers.

As detailed in our opening letter, we have assembled a talented and proven team to provide the highest level of design and development services, who collectively have developed projects in excess of over $200 million. They are passionate about their craft and together we can bring creative, thoughtful, and executable solutions to the State of New Mexico. The team excels in every aspect of this project: preservation, adaptive reuse, boutique lodging, hospitality, branding, finance, retail, restaurant, design, approvals and permitting, iconic yet functional architecture, working with government agencies, and community outreach.

In 2015, Los Poblanos hired AOS Architects to undertake the final phase of a major project - a $10 million expansion, which included 28 new guest suites, a new reception area, new gardens and agricultural production space, and the renovation of the 1934 dairy barn for retail, wholesale and restaurant operations.

The project was financed with Industrial Revenue Bonds in partnership with Bernalillo County and Sandia Labs Federal Credit Union. Through careful planning and communication, existing operations of all five Los Poblanos businesses continued uninterrupted during the construction phase and revenue actually increased by 28 percent. Construction was finished on budget and on schedule in 2017. Los Poblanos and AOS Architects were recently recognized with two awards from the American Institute of Architects, including its highest recognition for work that exemplifies excellence in architecture, interior architecture, and urban design.

One of the most compelling aspects of the Garrett’s project is the ultimate goal of generating as much revenue as possible for the University of New Mexico.

Our company is recognized for having created a purpose-driven business model that positively impacts the community while creating new jobs and elevating tourism for our state. For this project, we are extremely excited to present our vision for a dynamic partnership with Tamarind Institute, a division of UNM’s College of Fine Arts, that has the potential to more than double the revenue required by the State Land Office.

AOS Architects has a national reputation for sensitive restorations, and additions that are respectful of the history of a particular site and that provide the contemporary comforts our society demands. We work with historic sites, museums and cultural institutions, schools and universities, Native American communities, government agencies, and private clients of all sizes. We are committed to designing buildings and sites that are appropriate to and enrich their place. A member of the U.S. Green Building Council, we are committed to following sustainable practices in our design work. We are listed on the NM Historic Preservation Division directory of historic architects and our preservation work in New Mexico has garnered many national awards. Significant recent projects in New Mexico include work for the Department of Cultural Affairs for the preservation of significant buildings at Fort Stanton and Lincoln Historic Sites, as well as a preservation plan and rehabilitation of homes on the plazas at Ohkay Owingeh. The Ohkay Owingeh project received a national preservation award in November 2014 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and was featured on the cover of Preservation Magazine. Our significant preservation work extends from many of the 800 year old Pueblos to significant mid-century modern buildings from the 1960s. We have listed additional select relevant projects below.

Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm: AOS added 28 new guest rooms to the boutique inn and renovated all of the main farm structures, moving the field-to-fork restaurant into an expanded historic barn complex, including a 2,800-square-foot commercial-grade kitchen, new lavender production facility, and enlarged retail farm shop.

Palace of the Governors: AOS is currently working on the interior preservation of the Palace of the Governors. The Palace, a NHL, is the oldest continually occupied public building in North America and has undergone countless renovations since it was first constructed in 1610. The Palace - perhaps more than any other structure in the American West - tells the complex woven history of our indigenous, colonial, and American past.

Santa Fe Opera Interior Renovations

The interior preservation project will include preservation treatment of the interiors and a complete replacement of building systems, while preparing the building for new interpretation as the largest and most significant artifact in collections of the NM History Museum.

Santa Fe Opera: AOS Architects was hired to assist the Opera in making all five levels of the administration building accessible, replacing multiple roofs, and upgrading offices, kitchen and meeting areas. The program also included providing new offices and a major new reception and entertainment venue in a large, outdoor, covered courtyard. We worked with the Opera to restore the historic character of many of the existing rooms and outdoor spaces. The project dramatically upgrades the historic ensemble, including the entry portal and the remains of an 1880’s log cabin discovered during interior renovations.

Four years ago, Geisler Projects was presented with a unique opportunity to work with Albuquerque-based retailer, Avila Retail. Relocating their practice from Hong Kong to Santa Fe, they embarked on a mission to grow Avila Retail’s business by elevating their brand design and capturing new business contracts in key airports. Between 2014 and 2018, Geisler Projects helped win 10 new stores in high profile airports, resulting in more than a 200% increase in Avila Retail’s business.

INDIGENOUS: Geisler Projects helped Avila Retail developed 3 Native American concept stores in 2017. Symbolizing a place of discovery and exploration, culture and tradition, Indigenous is inspired by the tribes and pueblos of the Southwest, with particular emphasis on the twenty-one recognized nations of Arizona. Solid, built-in fixtures are indicative of the quality and authenticity of products showcased, and vibrant colors punctuate areas of interest. In the last 5 years, the firm primarily focused its efforts on renovating and re-purposing unique neglected buildings located on historic Route 66/Central Avenue and in the city’s urban center. Founded in 1993, House Industries is a design studio with one foot in the analog world and one in the digital. Their approach is rooted in traditional techniques that give their work a warmth and soul which comes through in everything they make, from children’s wooden blocks to digital fonts that help the world communicate. [3a. proposed project] INTRODUCTION The Garrett’s Desert Inn Project presents the Rembe family with the opportunity to build on the success it has achieved at Los Poblanos, most recently in collaboration with AOS Architects. Our plan is to create a new distinct lodging brand for the Santa Fe market that shares a mission similar to that of Los Poblanos – to create a dynamic business dedicated to hospitality and community with the specific goal of generating new economic development opportunities for the State of New Mexico. Los Poblanos has successfully developed a new model of historic preservation by creating a for-profit dynamic business that does not depend on grants or fundraising. We have developed a similar strategy for the Garrett’s Desert Inn site so that it will achieve the financial goals of the State Land Office and quickly become a Santa Fe institution.

The current working title for the new brand is El Isadore, a playful translation of San Ysidro, the Patron Saint of Farming, and the iconic symbol selected by architect John Gaw Meem to represent Los Poblanos. As we plan to use our own branded lavender spa amenities in guest rooms and create a new Santa Fe location for our Farm Shop, these will be the few visible references to Los Poblanos from the guests’ perspective. El Isadore’s branding strategy will be shaped by the design vision and the programmatic planning considerations that were driven by the following mix of partners: 1.

THE URBAN OPPORTUNITY Old Santa Fe Trail has served as a primary entrance into Santa Fe for centuries, bringing new residents, traders, and tourists. An earlier Spanish trail was formalized into a wagon route in the early 19th century, and later became a road for automobiles. Garrett’s Desert Inn sits at the terminus of the trail, connecting the ancient river, an historic trading route, and 1950s car culture. Controversial when it was constructed, the modern motel near the center of town was one of the causes of the Santa Fe Style being written into the city’s zoning code. Fifty years have now passed, and the building no longer seems controversial. The romance of car culture is now celebrated again in Santa Fe, and there is a need for fun and relatively affordable lodging options near the plaza. A revitalized Garrett’s Desert Inn can be an incredible asset to the city of Santa Fe. We believe there is a place for 1950s nostalgia and room to correct some of the urban flaws of this motel, primarily the large parking lot and the lack of connection to the river. a consistent streetscape that begins at the intersection of Old Pecos Trail and Old Santa Fe Trail and ends at East Alameda. For visitors entering the city from the Old Pecos exit on I-25, this is a magical act of time travel, as low and narrow buildings hug the sidewalks. Similarly, the hotel turns its back on a revitalizing river corridor that should be a place of great beauty. As seen in historic postcards, the Garrett’s Desert Inn once had a strong clarity of design, which we aim to bring back while making much needed urban improvements to the street and the river.

PROJECT SUMMARY Our vision is that the existing motel can best meet the goals of the State through the enhancement of its good qualities and correction of its flaws. An overlyintensive renovation or a collection of dramatic new buildings is not needed, nor do we think it would provide a sufficient return on investment. As we have done at Los Poblanos, a subtle transformation is called for – one that energizes the site through appropriate activity and varied businesses resulting in positive economic development. The main building will continue to house Santa Fe Bite. It will be augmented with an outpost of our Los Poblanos Farm Shop which focuses on New Mexico products, many of them grown on our farm. A small café for grab-and-go light meals and snacks and a new lounge will provide additional revenue opportunities. The building will be opened more to the river to the north and pool deck to the south. A new building on Old Santa Fe Trail will plug the hole of the parking court, and will house a new gallery for the Tamarind Institute as well as the hotel lobby/check-in. The parking court will be activated through better circulation design, and a beautiful timber canopy with climbing vines over a new outdoor lounge. The 83 guestrooms will be enhanced and beautified with accessibility and life safety improvements. The small casita on Old Santa Fe Trail on the southside of the 315 Restaurant will be renovated into a private casita with a private garden. The house on the east side of the property adjacent to El Castillo will be renovated as management quarters. Each component of the project is elaborated on below.

MAIN BUILDING – FARM SHOP, SANTA FE BITE, FARM FOODS CAFÉ, ISADORE LOUNGE AND POOL AREA Santa Fe Bite will continue to serve one of the best green chile cheeseburgers in the country. The outdoor patio will be redesigned for better efficiency and to provide an expanded riverfront dining terrace. The expanded patio will include an accessible ramp along the north side of the building providing ADA access into the dining room. The restaurant is currently not accessible. The southwest corner of the building will be renovated for the Los Poblanos Farm Shop, featuring its extensive line of lavender and food products made in New Mexico from the Los Poblanos farm, as well as other hand-crafted products. A small café will provide quick meals and snacks for hotel guests and other visitors to the property. Back of house facilities will include the existing kitchen and a series of offices and administrative spaces for the property. A new interior lounge at the east end of the main building will provide service for Santa Fe Bite as well as the expanded pool terrace and most importantly, access to a riverfront guest patio.

NEW BUILDING ON OLD SANTA FE TRAIL – TAMARIND ART GALLERY & LOBBY RECEPTION A new 2,000 square foot building on Old Santa Trail will house both the motel lobby and a new gallery. The motel lobby will be accessed from the parking court under a new shade structure. The gallery will be a new location for Tamarind Institute, a non-profit center for fine art lithography and a division of the College of Fine Arts at UNM.

CENTRAL COURT – PARKING, FITNESS SPACE & TRELLISED GUEST PATIO COMMONS The vast parking lot will be reconfigured and transformed into a series of more intimate spaces between the motel rooms and a dramatic central canopy.

Constructed of timber, with climbing vines and flowering plants, the canopy provides much needed shade for a new outdoor lounge, equipped with an outdoor fireplace, moveable furniture, and hammocks. This is envisioned as a place for guests to unwind following walks through the plaza area. Adjacent to the canopy is a small new gym building containing exercise equipment for guests. The parking lot will be reconfigured and regraded to direct stormwater to the landscape periphery that also serves as privacy screening for the guest rooms. We are excited by the opportunity to design a beautiful space that accommodates cars as well as people. Tinted concrete walking paths will divide the asphalt parking and provide a safer environment. Between the canopy area and expanded pool deck is a landscaped fire lane, providing space for a fire engine in case of emergency. Critical to the success of the motel is improved trash collection, removing it from the riverfront to a new secure zone between 315 and the new gallery. Two front-loading 8 yard dumpsters will be located in a fenced yard with plenty of room for the truck to pull off the street. We plan to share dumpster service with 315 to minimize disturbance. This transformed space will balance the 50s motor court vernacular with an enlivened guest commons space that mimics a plaza experience.

MOTEL We will keep all 83 existing rooms in their existing configuration and sizes. Interiors will be remodeled and transformed by design partner House Industries, including life safety improvements made to all – there is currently not a fire alarm system. ADA accessibility improvements will be made in a minimum of 5 units – there are currently no accessible units. These rooms will require reconfigured bathrooms, and other bathrooms will be enhanced while preserving their 1950s charm. We will explore the possibility of opening windows on the north wing to better connect the guests to the river.

CASITA The small casita on the south side of 315 Restaurant will be renovated into a high-quality private suite that could double as a small meeting space.

Accessed from both Old Santa Fe Trail and the central parking court, the renovation will preserve its charming residential scale and bring the private garden patio back to life.

REAR HOUSE The existing house on the east side of the property will be renovated as management quarters. The open space will be used for overflow parking.

Year 2020: Imagined Travel Writer’s Review of El Isadore: WHERE 50S MOTOR LODGE MEETS SANTA FE’S CREATIVE CLASS Roadside motel this is not. El Isadore is a boutique hotel gem that could be a destination place in and of itself, but just happens to be located in downtown Santa Fe, one of the oldest and most vibrant walkable art communities in the US. El Isadore has managed to transcend the hipster motel trend by creating an experience that offers far more than a décor remodel and designer t-shirts for sale.

While created by the same team responsible for Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm, this a completely different experience and, at first glance, shares very little in common with its sister property an hour south. However, as you begin to experience the creativity, attention to detail, and mission to support local art, it’s clear that El Isadore transcends hospitality. As Los Poblanos helps guests connect to New Mexico through its historic architecture and the food it grows on the farm, El Isadore connects guests to Santa Fe’s growing community of artists and creatives.

El Isadore is a remodel and re-envisioning of a typical 1950s motor court motel, with a sprawling asphalt parking lot. The space has been transformed. As we approached the entrance of El Isadore, the first thing we noticed was a dynamic contemporary art space facing the street with stunning large format prints in the windows.

This is the gallery for Tamarind Institute, the internationally recognized center for lithography, known for its contribution to contemporary printmaking over the last 50 years. More on Tamarind later . . .

El Isadore’s lobby is oriented on a newly realized public space. A trellised outdoor structure is centered in what was once the motor court parking lot. Now it’s a shaded green space for guests to enjoy the high desert climate with deep lounge chairs, hammocks and native plants. A friendly attendant greeted us in the small reception area, and check in was simple and straightforward. We were directed to our room and shown the colorful pedal assist electric bikes that El Isadore provides to its guests for adventuring all over town. While waiting for my bike helmet, I noticed two superb art prints, a compelling Fritz Scholder, entitled Indian with Beaded Sash. The other work by Garo Antreasian, is crisp and modern, but with an African tribal feel.

One of the central design collaboration stories at El Isadore is House Industries, an internationally recognized design studio dedicated to typography, lettering and environmental design.

House Industries’ work is in the permanent collections of Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. House has also worked with some of the great mid-century designers, such as Charles Eames and Richard Neutra. Designers love hospitality because they get the opportunity to design so many aspects of the guest experience— signage; interiors; decorative tile and wall covering; furniture and lighting; even tabletop items. House’s contribution at El Isadore demonstrates a deft hand at creating striking and memorable design, while showing sensitivity to the traditional forms, palette and setting of Santa Fe. The lodging experience and guest rooms do not disappoint. Design aficionados will love the new rooms and, for the price, El Isadore over delivers here. The House Industries designed interiors are modern yet warm, and showcase many locally handcrafted items such as light fixtures made with New Mexican tin and reverse painted glass. Room amenities include high quality mattresses and organic bed linens, thoughtfully stocked minibars with local snacks, and Los Poblanos signature lavender organic body products. Other highlights on the property are the pool, hot tub and well-equipped fitness room.

There are, of course, dozens of great dining options within a one or two block radius of the motel, but it’s possible to eat well at El Isadore. Santa Fe Bite, an onsite tenant, serves their justifiably famous Green Chile Cheeseburger and provides lunch and dinner service. We ate breakfast at the Farm Shop Café, which features Los Poblanos artisan breads, house made jams and strong, locally roasted coffee. Bar Isadore, located in the motel’s stylish lounge, offers comfort food that celebrates the region, and artisan cocktails developed through its partnerships with acclaimed local distillers.

Guests have the option of being served poolside.

Having visited the Los Poblanos Farm Shop, I recognized some of the merchandise in The Farm Shop at El Isadore, notably their lavender body products, made on the Los Ranchos farm. The store offers an exciting mix of merchandise that tells the stories that

align with El Isadore’s vibe—great books on New Mexico art; local artisan crafts; contemporary jewelry from young Native American designers; and a selection of objects designed by UNM College of Fine Arts graduate students. In addition, there are sections dedicated to House Industries and Tamarind Institute: Books and custom design objects speak to their collaborations with El Isadore and the creative process.

Tamarind Institute is headquartered at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and is one of New Mexico’s best-kept secrets and unsung heroes. Its partnership with El Isadore is helping bring much deserved attention to Tamarind’s commitment and expertise in training master printers, and for its collaborative print projects with international artists. Every guest room at El Isadore is curated with a print from Tamarind, which I learned plays a key role in funding the Institute’s operations. Graduate students from UNM’s College of Fine Arts not only train and apprentice in the print studio, but also at El Isadore’s on-site art gallery to understand all aspects of the art world, from creative conception to the final transaction with a collector.

During our visit we had the unique experience of meeting an artist who was visiting Tamarind from Mexico and signing limited edition prints. It was her first time working in this medium, and it was exciting to learn how the master printer at Tamarind guided her through the technical process, while giving her the space to define her creative path. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled in the public spaces for masterpieces from Tamarind’s archive. 100% of art sales go to Tamarind and the College of Fine Arts. Happy to support these institutions—and take home a stunning souvenir— we bought a print. Gallery prices range from $250 to $1,800.

Though the hip motel aesthetic typically appeals to a younger audience, discerning travelers of any age will appreciate what El Isadore offers. In a town steeped in tradition, the motel is respectful of its surroundings. It meaningfully connects its guests to local history and culture, while providing a fresh, design-led perspective. And it’s all at a great price. We spent $200 a night, which included light breakfasts and daily cocktails. Not bad for a fully immersive experience, two blocks from Santa Fe Plaza.

In The City Different, this hospitality newcomer fits right in.

[economic and community impact] Since 2005, Los Poblanos has grown from 6 to 150 full-time equivalent employees in areas ranging from hospitality to agriculture. Two phases of expansion created over 200 full-time jobs during the respective years of design and construction using all local contractors. However, exponential job growth was created through increased tourism, new media exposure for New Mexico as a destination place, key community partnerships, and our deep commitment to support local farmers and vendors. A prime example of this is illustrated by our partnership with Avila Retail, a New Mexico success story and airport retailer whose sales have grown from $19-$38 million in the last three years. Los Poblanos lavender products account for 4 of its Top 10 selling products in five airport markets nationally, further driving more exposure for New Mexico. A new location in Santa Fe has the potential to make the same impact.

DIRECT JOBS RELATED TO CONSTRUCTION In collaboration with Insight Construction, we plan to hire all local contractors and engineering firms. In keeping with our project at Los Poblanos, we will work with local suppliers for custom designed furnishings, décor and supplies. It has partnered with high schools, Bernalillo County, UNM, CNM, NM State, and dozens of other arts and cultural organizations.

PARTNERSHIP WITH TAMARIND INSTITUTE Recognized internationally, Tamarind is a division of UNM’s College of Fine Arts and is one of the most important arts institutions in New Mexico. While our pro-forma details the revenue this project will generate for UNM directly, an independent art gallery subsidized by Los Poblanos will allow Tamarind and the College of Fine Arts to generate sales that could well exceed $200,000 annually. This will more than double the amount being required by the State Land Office. Not only would this create new opportunities for artists and students, but it would create national exposure for one of UNM’s most exciting departments.

Currently UNM covers Tamarind’s staff salaries and overhead, but Tamarind relies on print sales to cover the $400,000 operating budget for its programs and curriculum. Only a small share of sales occur in its gallery location at UNM which is not ideally located to maximize visitors. Other sales are generated through art fairs throughout the US which cost approximately $35,000 each to attend. This new gallery location in a vibrant arts district would allow Tamarind to redirect its energy more effectively back in New Mexico while creating economic growth opportunities for tourism and the local arts community.

PARTNERSHIP WITH FARM SHOP, LOS POBLANOS A new location in Santa Fe would allow Farm Shop to potentially double its sales and business opportunities for all its vendors, of which the vast majority are New Mexican. With sales exceeding $1.7 million annually and approximately 75% of the merchandise from local vendors, it is a strong vehicle for economic development. We take enormous pride that our retail model has helped grow local businesses, like Kei & Molly Towels, Monticello Balsamico, and Villa Miriam Coffee. The new location and brand concept would create new product development opportunities unique to the Isadore property.

[project partners] TAMARIND INSTITUTE TAMARIND INSTITUTE IS A NON-PROFIT CENTER DEDICATED TO RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND ARTISTIC PROJECTS IN FINE ART LITHOGRAPHY. Tamarind Institute, a division of the College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico, is a nonprofit center for fine arts lithography that trains master printers and houses a professional collaborative studio for artists. Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Inc. (TLW) was founded in Los Angeles in 1960 as a means to “rescue” the dying art of lithography. It is recognized internationally for its contributions to the growth of contemporary printmaking around the world and continues to provide professional training and creative opportunities for artists.

Fully funded by the Ford Foundation until it became affiliated with the University of New Mexico in 1970, founding director June Wayne, together with Associate Director Clinton Adams and Technical Director Garo Antreasian, established multiple long-range goals: • to create a pool of master artisan-printers in the United States by training apprentices; • to develop a group of American artists of diverse styles into masters of this medium; • to habituate each artist and artisan to intimate collaboration so that each becomes responsive and stimulating to the other in the work situation encouraging both to experiment widely and extend the expressive potential of the medium; • to stimulate new markets for the lithograph; • to plan a format to guide the artisan in earning his living outside of subsidy or total dependence on the artist’s pocket; • to restore the prestige of lithography by actually creating a collection of extraordinary prints.

WHY IS TAMARIND IMPORTANT FOR THIS PROJECT? Tamarind is one of New Mexico’s most important arts organizations and, considering its importance, is one of the most underappreciated. In the art world it has enormous prestige and credibility, which has never been leveraged from the point of tourism, economic development, and branding our state. Los Poblanos is committed to creating a dynamic partnership with Tamarind by building its own dedicated gallery.

Tamarind Institute continues its programs of education, research, and creative projects with partial funding from the university. Tamarind also depends heavily on revenue from contract printing and the sale of lithographs it publishes to support the cost associated with its educational and artistic programs. Grants from a number of federal and philanthropic organizations have funded the Institute’s many special projects, including a variety of international programs that have been developed over the past several decades.

The Tamarind Archives, housed in the Center for Southwest Research at Zimmerman Library at UNM, are another source of information about Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Inc. and Tamarind Institute. There are two series: Administrative Files, papers and correspondence relative to the establishment of TLW in Los Angeles, continuing throughout the decade that the workshop was located in Los Angeles (1960-70); and Research and Publications from TLW and TI, including research notes, manuscript material, and publications. The print archives, including impressions of every edition printed at Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Inc., and Tamarind Institute are housed in the University of New Mexico Art Museum.

FAR M SHOP The FARM SHOP is an integral part of the Los Poblanos experience and has always had the potential to be a stand-alone brand separate from the property.

With sales exceeding $1 million annually and approximately 75% of the merchandise from local vendors, it is a strong vehicle for economic development. For the local community and visitors to Santa Fe, it also creates the opportunity to promote New Mexico as a unique place to visit. One of the proudest achievements Los Poblanos has had as a company has been to see how our sales have helped local business grow.

The retail business at The Isadore is critical for establishing and maintaining public engagement with locally made products and providing a carefully curated selection of complimentary products to create a naturally holistic environment for customer education and consumption. The unique merchandise mix tells the story of Los Poblanos – from our organic lavender products to books on New Mexican architecture. A new location combined with our partnership with Tamarind allows us to create a merchandise mix that reflect those stories. Like the LP brand itself, the shop should represent the “Best of New Mexico” as seen through our lens.

Farm Shop at Los Poblanos offers lectures, workshops, events and information on growing, cooking and decorating with Lavender Labs, our education series each June and July. This programming engages inn guests and draws excitement from the local community. The potential at The Isadore is to capitalize on the educational component of the Tamarind Institute, offering programming and events that highlight lithography, drawing interest from local Santa Fe residents and out-of-towners alike and becoming a destination for art enthusiasts.

Online sales from first time visitors to the Farm Shop website have been steadily growing and will exceed $300,00 this year. This has been a great vehicle for reaching new customers who have never visited New Mexico and connecting with them though stories, featuring Los Poblanos lavender spa products, artisan food products and fresh bread made on our farm and other locally sourced products from artists, crafts people and writers of New Mexico.

FAR M FOODS Adjacent to, but separate from the shop, is a bakery and café which provides lunch alternatives. Farm Foods also features a collection of small-batch culinary items that come straight from the Los Poblanos kitchen, incorporating ingredients grown steps from the kitchen or using products sourced from local partners.

Additional channels allow sales to drive more contracts with local farmers and vendors to scale up their businesses and be more efficient.

Farm Shop is dedicated to creating exciting value for both local people and those visiting New Mexico, representing the state of New Mexico and the southwest. New Mexico has so much to offer aside from beautiful scenery and history. Farm Shop calls attention to resident makers and artists who are telling these stories by making connections in a dynamic retail space.

H OUSE INDUSTRIES Founded in 1993, House Industries is a design studio with one foot in the analog world and one in the digital. Their approach is rooted in traditional techniques that give their work a warmth and soul which comes through in everything they make, from children’s wooden blocks to digital fonts that help the world communicate. [2a. related project experience - los poblanos historic inn & organic farm] Los Poblanos is a rare survivor of the Rio Grande Valley’s agrarian past, demonstrating a resilient future grounded in tradition. The National Register district contains farmland and supporting buildings as well as two of the finest homes by renowned New Mexico architect, John Gaw Meem. Since his 1930s Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm and agricultural center. This $10 million project added 28 guestrooms to the 25-acre property and transformation of the site, it has remained an educational renovated the primary farm structures, aggregating retail, wholesale, lavender production and a commercial kitchen/bakery serving the new restaurant. Agriculture is the heart of the operation, producing both organic produce for the field-to-fork restaurant and lavender for the artisanal product line. The buildings frame views of the Sandia Mountains from the new restaurant as guestrooms branch out into the fields. Vernacular architecture, evoking 1930s dairy structures, reconnects guests with a holistic understanding of the land and our place in it.

Los Poblanos is a family in holistic collaboration from farm to table to customer celebrating the narrative of the seasons. Los Poblanos is known for its continuation of sustainable agriculture. The farm is known for organic lavender and produce utilized in its field to fork restaurant. The project included renovations of the Milking Barn complex (lower left two photos) into dining, retail, and lavender production.
