THE IRELAND’S YOUNG FILMMAKER
THE YEAR AWARDS ON RTÉ2 ON
APRIL
WATCH
OF
29th

Introduction

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

At least at Fresh it is. We’ve seen a multitude of films, hosted a bunch of regional screenings and had the judges pore over the results. And now we are here at Festival time to see who will become Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of The Year.

We want to note the increased interaction and ties made between individual film-makers as people pursue ambitious creative goals, the links developing between film-making organisations and schools and of course we always want to laud those of you who take an independent tack in making your films. Each approach makes for a fertile eco-system in which films are made by young people in Ireland.

If your film hasn’t been chosen for this last phase of the competition, or indeed if you are here and you don’t win an award, then you will have to take it on the chin, dust yourself down and get back writing, producing and shooting again. This is the way it goes, I’m afraid. Each new attempt will allow you to develop and hone your film-making knowledge and skills. Remember nothing is ever lost in trying.

For those of you who happen to make it through to the awards podium, it will be the most wonderful time of the year. But for now, sit back and enjoy your work. You deserve all the plaudits coming to you.
