2021 was shaping up as being one of Oakhill Rugby’s most successful seasons on record. Our trial season was extremely challenging, consisting of fixtures against Barker, Shore, Trinity, Knox, Joeys and Waverley with some outstanding results – especially from our A-Grade teams.

We then managed to play two rounds of the ISA season v St Augustine’s and St Pius before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Of those 31 ISA games that took place, Oakhill was victorious in 24 games with a clean sweep against St Pius. What was most impressive about our 2021 season is the number of boys playing Rugby at the College. There is no doubt that Rugby has maintained its status as the number one participated in sport played during winter. Rugby is the heartbeat of the College and is so much more than a game for players, parents and staff. Our numbers continue to grow, which is a catalyst for our success.

These outstanding results were achieved through the dedication and tenacity of players, but also through the support of the wider Rugby community. Special thanks to all Coaches and parents who have provided many hours of support, encouragement and mentorship for players. The dedication of the Rugby Committee has also enabled Oakhill Rugby to grow in strength. Most importantly, thank you and congratulations to all Oakhill Rugby players. The 2021 season has produced some outstanding results on the field, but it is the conduct of players off the field that has been most impressive. Players have represented the College with pride and are deserving of the accolades that come their way.

A special mention to our Year 12 players. You have achieved so much, not only this year but throughout your six years at Oakhill. Unfortunately, we will not be able to give you the send-off you deserve but please be assured you always will have a special place in the heart of Oakhill Rugby. We will welcome you back with open arms and on behalf of all our coaching staff; thanks and best wishes.

Unquestionably the highlight of the year was our Gala Day fixture v St Augustine’s. This day demonstrates what Rugby means to Oakhill. Only those who were present on the day or have attended a Gala Day fixture will understand. If a picture says a thousand words, this photo sums up what Rugby means to Oakhill.
