Zac, 32, had been working on his adventure series Killing Zac Efron when he was struck down by what insiders described as ‘a form of typhoid or similar bacterial infection’. The Greatest Showman star was airlifted to Brisbane just before Christmas to receive emergency treatment at the St Andrews War Memorial Hospital. His condition at the time was so serious that doctors described it as a ‘life or death’ battle. When the news broke, Zac’s fans flooded his social media accounts to express their concerns. ‘Give us a sign that you are OK? fretted one. ‘I’ve been working out since I was 16,’ Elsa explains. ‘I love an athletic body’

ELSA PATAKY ‘Weights and yoga works for my body’ She’s Thor’s other half, but actress Elsa Pataky gives the muscle man a run for his money in the fitness department. The svelte stunner takes a holistic approach to long-term health, with the aim to stay strong, not skinny. ‘I don’t believe in, like quick diets that you do [ just] before summer. Those miracles don’t exist,’ says the mum-of-three. ‘You have to find what your body

craves and what is good for it. For a while everyone was like, “No carbs”, which I think is a big mistake.’ So what works for the Madrid-born star? ‘Mediterranean food every day, not just [for] periods of time,’ says Elsa, who avoids processed and fatty foods, sugars and alcohol. On advice from hubby Chris Hemsworth, Elsa took up intermittent fasting, despite initial reservations. ‘I was like, “I don’t want to lose weight” – because it’s a great way to lose weight if you need to lose weight – but you

won’t lose weight if your body doesn’t need to. And I learnt that, doing it.’ On top of three intense 30-minute strength-training sessions, she practises yoga twice a week to ‘style’ her physique. ‘I can create muscle [with weights] but yoga would style it and make it longer,’ says Elsa, who trains with Byron Bay-based yoga instructor Tahl Rinsky. She relies on a combination of ashtanga and vinyasa, and recommends 30 minutes a day for optimal results. ‘It’s just like another kind of energy you have in yoga. It’s also for your mind,’ says Elsa, who has worked out exactly how to challenge herself. ‘Weight training with yoga really works for my body. I’m using more weight, and more weight, and more weight, and less repetitions to create that muscle.’ But, she adds, ‘Stretching is such an important thing for the muscle – and in women, it’s what makes you get that beautiful shape.’

OK’s BEST BEACH BODS HEALTHY MAMA ‘The thinnest I’ve ever been was right after Luna [was born],’ Chrissy has shared. ‘Postpartum depression. I’ll take these pounds and this feeling!’ Looking good, lady!

CHRISSY TEIGEN ‘I want to be happy-fit!’ If there was an award for most relatable celeb, Chrissy Teigen would win hands down. Forever keeping it real on social media, her approach to fitness is the same. Where the former Sports Illustrated model was once obsessed with maintaining her sample-size

Chrissy proudly rocks her ‘happy-fit’ bod

physique via a low-carb diet, she now adheres to a more realistic routine. ‘Since I was 20 years old, I had this weight in my mind that I’m, or that I’m supposed to be… And then I started realising it was a swimsuit-model weight. There’s a very big difference wanting to be that kind of fit and wanting to be happy-fit,’ says the 34-year-old stunner. Achieving the latter has meant adopting a more inclusive diet since becoming mum to Luna, three, and 19-month-old Miles. ‘For the first time, I feel like I have a more womanly figure,’ she says. ‘I’m 9kg heavier than I was before Miles. I never lost the last bit because I love food too much. Just coming to terms with my new normal.’ A ‘slight cardio hater’, Chrissy opts for yoga and Pilates, and exercises most days at Body By Simone in LA. ‘Chrissy is a pro at jumping rope,’ says Simone, who combines it with weighted squats and butt lifts on the BOSU ball. Despite her regular workouts, Chrissy doesn’t obsess over calories and isn’t afraid to enjoy the occasional fast-food meal. ‘There’s a balance with anything,’ she says. ’When I cook, everything is organic and very clean.’

LIZZO ‘I love my body’ Leave it to Lizzo to deliver this nugget of wisdom: ‘Fitness doesn’t have a look or an aesthetic or a weight. Fitness is a very personal thing that’s between you and your doctor.’ The body positivity queen, 31, would know – she spent years going ‘up and down’ in weight, and for a time avoided eating in order ‘to be thin’, until she eventually ignored unrealistic ideals. ‘When I started discovering my self-love… I was broke. I was like, “I have no surgery options, there’s no crazy dieting options. I’ve been big my whole life. Just accept your body!” Now, I have a healthy relationship with my body,’ says the singer, who does cardio and strength training with PT Marcus Ely, doing wide-grip lat pull-downs, barbell squats and Russian twists. ‘I be in the gym every day, but people don’t believe that because I got fat rolls and a big butt,’ she says. ‘But I think that’s empowering. It’s OK to work out and not have a sixpack.’ Amen!

NEWS SOFIA RICHIE ‘I have to take a class and be yelled at!’ Even Sofia Richie struggles to hit the gym – not that you’d know it. ‘I’m bad at working out on my own,’ says the model, 21. ‘I’m not disciplined to run [1.5km], so I usually have to take a class. I SoulCycle a lot and do Barry’s Bootcamp – I need someone yelling at me.’ That explains her gruelling workouts with trainer Kevin Mejia at Dogpound in LA. Sofia – who recently documented her sweat session on social media – smashes through challenging full-body workouts. To up the ante, she adds a resistance band to 180-degree monster walks and squats, side and reverse lunges, hip extensions, bent-over rows and donkey kicks. She also adds ankle weights to leg thrusts, and keeps her abs rock-hard with crunches. ‘I swear by drinking lots of water to keep healthy, too,’ adds Sofia.

Hailey’s regular diet includes eggs, oats, lean proteins and grilled vegies

HAILEY BIEBER ‘I’ve been a fan of hot yoga for a long time’ Hot-as-hell Hailey Bieber knows how to turn up the heat in more ways than one. That terrifically toned, taught figure is thanks to sessions of hot Pilates. ‘I find that when you do any hot class, your muscles are more pliable and you stretch out easier,’ says the 23-year-old model. ‘I’ve been a fan of hot yoga for a very long time, too.’ The idea is that you burn more calories in a heated studio, thanks to an increased heart rate and metabolism, with the result being improved tone and flexibility. ‘I was a dancer, which is all about being warmed up and muscles being loose, so I just really enjoy hot classes,’ says Hailey, who is also hooked on the skin benefits. ‘You come out dripping in sweat but it’s good for your skin. I love it!’

But she’ll indulge in the odd cheat day ‘cheeseburger and fries’, too

Sofia keeps her skin supple with coconut oil. ‘I sleep in it,’ she says

WORKOUT wows KATE HUDSON ‘I took a smarter approach this time’ The actress’ athletic physique comes down to long-term commitment for long-term results. Kate Hudson lost all her baby weight in six months with her sons, but she took a ‘smarter’ approach after having daughter Rani Rose in October 2018. ‘This one took like, 12 months,’ she says of getting her pre-baby body back. Part of that involved following WW’s weight-loss program. ‘It was a smarter way to take weight off, because it stays off,’ says Kate, 40, adding nothing is off limits. ‘The wonderful thing is you can eat what you want; you just have to be conscious.’ The long-time yogi, who exercises three or four times a week, is a fan of Body By Simone and Brazilian Butt Lift workouts, and incorporates The Mirror and Peloton into her sweat sessions. But it’s Pilates she’s 100 per cent devoted to. ‘I love how flexible I feel and I like what it does to my shape.’

KHLOÉ KARDASHIAN

‘After I had True, I couldn’t wait to get back to the gym,’ says Khloé

‘I’m a beast in the gym’ She famously dropped 20kg in 2015, and since then Khloé Kardashian has never lost sight of her fitness goals – even after becoming a mum. Once given the all-clear to exercise after welcoming True in April 2018, Khloé worked overtime – not only to lose the extra 18kg she gained but to ‘be fitter than before the pregnancy’, says her trainer Joel BouraÏma. A self-described ‘beast in the gym’, the 35-year-old exercises six days a 18 WWW.OKMAGAZINE.COM.AU

week, focusing on 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of circuit training. The Revenge Body host works burpees, boxing, skipping and the stair climber into her cardio workouts, and targets her booty. ‘I do fire hydrants for 30 seconds, then I stick my leg straight out behind me and do pulses for 30 seconds, then donkey kicks for 30 seconds,’ explains Khloé. ‘I’ll also do it with a killer 2kg ankle weight!’

‘I eat well without depriving se my lf of the things I love,’ says Kate

NEWS ‘If I haven’t been moving a lot, I can’t eat a lot,’ says Charlize. ‘I’m honest with myself’

‘Pilates has totally changed my body’

‘A Reformer machine suits my body best’

‘I don’t believe in crash dieting’

Setting the red carpet on fire every time she sets foot on it, Charlize Theron has been #fitnessgoals for more than two decades. ‘I’m lucky I’ve never been a couch potato,’ the 44-year-old says. ‘I love anything outdoorsy.’ In the gym, Charlize does up to four spin classes a week, as well as two 90-minute sessions of power yoga. It’s Pilates that really gets her firing on all cylinders, though. ‘It’s totally changed my body,’ says Charlize, who follows a clean diet. ‘I have juices and kale and green salads every day,’ she adds. ‘When I’m eating healthily, getting enough sleep and not drinking alcohol, that’s when I look my best.’

For Margot Robbie, staying in tiptop form is about ‘walking the line between having as much fun as possible and continuing to take care of myself’. ‘Eating well and exercise need to be prevalent in my life so that I can feel my best, but I don’t want to dwell on it too much,’ says the 29-year-old. That’s why the Aussie head-turner incorporates physical activity into her daily life. ‘I like to play tennis, run around the park or do a dance class with girlfriends,’ she says. ‘If I’m making a conscious effort to exercise, I work with a Pilates trainer on a Reformer machine, and that suits me and my body best.’

Reese Witherspoon looks as trim as she did when she burst onto the scene in 1991. ‘I work out all the time… I don’t believe in crash dieting,’ says the mum-of-three, who starts her day with a workout at 7.30am. ‘I probably do that six days a week.’ To stay in shape, the 43-year-old does yoga, jogs and spin classes. She also follows Body By Simone workouts, which combine body weight and resistance training with high-intensity dance cardio, and does Burn 60 HIIT classes. Food-wise, the Oscar winner follows the 16:8 diet, which involves 16-hour fasts. ‘I just have a green juice and a coffee in the morning,’ she says.

J

ust two months ago, Hilary Duff claimed she and her fiancé Matthew Koma had yet to begin planning their wedding. But cut to December 21 and the pair had tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at their Los Angeles home. Surprise! With a guest list comprising of only their nearest and dearest,

‘I love it,’ Hils gushed of her stunning dress. ‘It’s really what I wanted’

Hilary and Matthew, both 32, managed to keep the nuptials under wraps until the big day – exchanging vows in the backyard of their Beverly Hills home at sunset. ‘Writing my vows was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, honestly,’ Hilary admits. ‘It’s hard to have five minutes to tell someone all they mean to you and all the things you love about them and why, and what it means moving forward to make this kind of commitment.’ Walking down the aisle, the Younger star wore a custom Jenny Packham gown, which had her kids’ names sewn into the hemline. ‘I’m really happy – he’s amazing,’ Hils said of her new hubby. ‘I just feel very happy.’ ‘They’re a part of our ceremony and obviously the biggest part of our life,’ Hils said of her kids

Introducing the ultra-affordable gym you can stash anywhere! LOUISA DRAKE

L

et’s face it, most of us don’t have the cash or space for a full-blown fitness studio. But what if there was a gym that’s not only affordable but so small you can fit it in a box under the bed, or even pack it in your

suitcase next time you’re on holiday! Introducing the world’s tiniest gym courtesy of London-based personal trainer Louisa Drake (who has worked with Gwyneth Paltrow and Victoria Beckham), who gives OK! the lowdown on everything you need.

THE LONG RESISTANCE BAND ‘These versatile pieces are ideal for sculpting and defining your body, and improving your posture,’ Louisa says. ‘The flat, longer resistance band helps to achieve a total body workout, and is ideal for upper body exercises. Wrap the band around a pole for chest and shoulder exercises, or use for floor exercises to strengthen and stretch out the body.’ MOLLY SIMS

THE LOOP RESISTANCE BAND Loop resistance bands are great for adding extra challenge to exercises like squats and lateral leg lifts. ‘I love using resistance bands to challenge my workouts as they are kind on joints and hard on muscles,’ Louisa says. ‘You can hit a full range of motion, working more places and more muscle for that satisfying burn.’ If you don’t have a loop band, you can achieve the same effect by tying a long resistance band around your legs. Use a bow instead of a double knot so you can easily untie it.

44 WWW.OKMAGAZINE.COM.AU

ADRIANA LIMA

GLIDING DISCS

Louisa recommends these lightweight and ultra-portable discs ‘for improved stability and muscle burn’. Use them anywhere you’ve got a hard floor to give your workout an extra boost. Try placing them under your toes next time you do mountain climbers to increase core engagement and eliminate impact to your back. They’re also great for side lunges, and can be placed under your hands for exercises like sliding push-ups.

T TIP

‘I bring a jump rope and find d a peaceful place and skip to o musi music,’’ Elsa says ys.. ‘II also always ays ttravel with gliders.’

ELSA HOSK

THE MINI STABILITY BALL

SHANINA SHAIK

If you’re ’ a ffan off Pil Pilates t or b barre, you’ve probably come across one of these. Ultra-light and compact, the mini stability ball can be easily deflated so they’re great for travelling. ‘It’s great for improving core strength and balance,’ Louisa explains. Place one under your middle back next time you do sit-ups for an upper ab workout you won’t forget anytime soon. They’re also great for working your lower abs, obliques, inner thighs and can even be used for stretches.

‘I’d include hand weights, or ankle weights and wrist weights,’ Louisa advises. ‘They’re all brilliant ways to improve strength and increase your [kilojoule] burn whilst doing the simplest of moves.’ No wonder Shanina Shaik won’t leave home without

them! ‘The most important thing I travel with is my gym,’ the Aussie model reveals. ‘It goes wherever I go. I have ankle weights and normal weights and resistance bands, and I pack them all up in my little suitcase and I take it all with me.’

MEDITATE anytime, anywhere! Whether you've got an hour or a few minutes, Eff This! Meditation author Liza Kindred has an exercise for you

WHEN YOU HAVE… 1 MINUTE TRY SEE-HEAR-FEEL This is a quick trick to connect you to the present moment. Take a deep breath and just notice: Three things you see; Three things you hear; Three things you feel. Feelings can be physical, emotional, or energetic. Take a deep breath and re-engage, more fully present.

TIP

Try to do this without judgement of yourself or your surroundings. Don’t rush through this.

WHEN YOU HAVE… 10-20 MINUTES MIRANDA KERR

TRY DIAPHRAGMATIC BREATHING Many of us tend to take shallow breaths into our chests. This constricts our breathing and can trigger the fight-or-flight response that keeps our bodies in stress mode. When we do diaphragmatic (deep, low) breathing, we are instead focusing on bringing the entire breath deeper into our bodies. Start by lying down, if possible. Place one hand on your chest and one on your upper belly. To practise diaphragmatic breathing: take a deep breath in through your nose, and as you do, fill up your belly with air. As you exhale through your mouth, notice your belly contracting. Pay attention to the sensation of your belly rising and falling. Your chest will ideally remain relatively still, as our upper bellies rise and fall, rise and fall with slow, deep breaths. Doing this practice daily can start to The practice goes reduce your overall well with music or stress levels in as even a calm little as two weeks.

TIP show.

KARLIE KLOSS

TRY TO TAKE A NAP Tw wenty minutes is enough time to get in a ower nap – but for a lot of people, we’re not po ab ble to just lie down and sleep. If you are able to nap, DO IT! If you are not a napper, find a quiet spot (an empty meeting room, your car, a bench) and put on some soothing music through a your headphones. Close your eyes and just… y rrelax. If you, like me, are worried about time, sset a gentle alarm so you don’t fret about it. If you find yourself stressing out, picture yourself placing the worries at the end of the nap time. They’ll still be there, you’re just not engaging with them for a few moments. And by all means, don’t place any undue pressure on yourself to fall asleep. If you can sleep, awesome, but resting is enough. VANESSA HUDGENS

WHEN YOU HAVE… 1 HOUR TRY A PHOTOWALK Photowalks are exactly what they sound like: you go on a meandering walk, and you take photos of what you come across. You can do this solo, with friends, or I even once led a big group of strangers on a photowalk in Las Vegas for a conference I was speaking at. You can use a fancy camera if you have one, but your phone’s camera is more than enough (if you’re using your phone, put it into Do Not Disturb or Airplane mode so you’re not distracted). Walk, without aim or intention. Just notice what’s around you and take pictures of what you are drawn to. It’s fun to go on photowalks in new places, but it’s just as interesting to do them close to home – it’s like seeing the world in a whole new way. You can share the photos, or not. The point is to notice things while exercising a little creativity.

THIS IS AN EDITED EXTRACT FROM EFF THIS! MEDITATION BY LIZA KINDRED, COVER AND INTERIOR DESIGN BY AMY SLY (ROCK POINT, $24.99).

ESSENTIAL PACKING CHECKLIST Folding works well for structured or bulky clothes, like jeans, jumpers and cotton dresses, but roll softer garments like pyjamas, swimsuits and T-shirts to create more space. Check ahead to see if the place where you’re staying has universal power points, so you’ll know if you need to bring an adaptor. Ditch that old beach towel in favour of a hammam towel. They’re much more chic, dry quickly and will take up less space in your suitcase. In the unlikely chance your suitcase happens to go missing, prepare for the worst by packing a spare change of clothes in your hand luggage. 49

razy-cheap nannies, daring water sports and kids’ clubs – carting the little ones to Fiji is a no-brainer when you stack up the pros. But spare a thought for the holiday makers forced to hit the same resorts as early rising rugrats because booking a private bungalow would mean jaffle dinners for a year. Surprisingly, one of the country’s premium hotel chains has empathised, recently unveiling a resort within a resort catering purely to adults. Best of all, it’s nowhere near the cost of a la-di-da overwater suite and just a 50-minute drive from Nadi airport – so no waiting around for boat transfers.

The Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa’s sparkly Reef Wing, built on the chain’s 100 hectares of private island on Fiji’s Coral Coast, instils serenity from the moment you step into the new lobby. Handed a coconut as I check in overlooking the idyllic infinity pool, I was immediately soothed by the warm Fijian breeze. The lobby doubles as a common area, opening up into the Reef Cafe & Dining – so it’s the perfect spot for a cheeky sundowner.

PEACEFUL PARADISE

Settle back for a chill tanning sesh sans being splashed by kids

Free canapés? Holiday made!

As idyllic as lazing by the pool is, I peel myself away for complimentary canapés and daiquiris at Reef Cafe. Served daily for an hour, mini bites, including crispy chicken wings and fresh sushi rolls, arrive in a tiered tower. But I skip round two to save stomach space for dinner at the new Golden Cowrie Coastal Italian. Expect cured meats, cheese selections and homemade pasta all delicately crafted and cooked expertly. It’s fine holiday dining, without the usual kids’ pizzas and colouring-in books.

ROOM WITH A VIEW The accommodation itself? It’s the highlight. Each of the Reef Wing’s beachfront rooms offer stretching ocean views. I stayed in the 36sqm Reef Deluxe, which comes with a long bathtub, private balcony and added pool views. Plus, the shower head is strong and generous – the biggest tick of all! If you want to go superfancy, there are also six Reef Bures, the mac daddiest of stays within the whole resort. Located

at the end of the Reef Wing, each have an outdoor shower, outdoor jacuzzi bath and private garden. Oh, and you get a golf buggy to zip around in for your stay. The following morning, I mosey down to the lobby. Book in hand, shoes flicked off, I slump into the pillows on a comfy lounge and I notice new check-ins eyeing me off. Smugly oozing Zen, I read for hours – not a shrieking child to be heard…

The 2020

BUCKET LIST REBOOT Hot tip: these cities are the next big things in the travel sphere!

KATY PERRY & ORLANDO BLOOM

CAIRO, EGYPT

SWIZZ BEATZ & ALICIA KEYS

The year 2020 is set to be the date – inshallah (God willing) – when state-of-the-art museum Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza throws open its doors. Marvel at a mind-boggling collection in what will be the world’s largest museum committed to one civilisation. For Red Sea and Luxor holidaymakers, a pyramids and GEM add-on will become a doddle with Giza’s Sphinx Airport set to operate domestic flights.

VANCOUVER, CANADA

This natural playground was the birthplace of Greenpeace, so it’s fitting that the city has been trying to lead the world in urban sustainability. Its longstanding Greenest City 2020 Action Plan will only enrich your stay. Take to its expanded cycling and walking network, including an unforgettable 28km section along beaches and shorefront.

GALWAY, IRELAND

Brilliantly bohemian Galway is arguably Ireland’s most engaging city. Here, brightly painted pubs heave with live music; cafes offer front-row seats to watch buskers perform. And this year all that creative exuberance is being supercharged by events marking Galway’s role as a 2020 European Capital of Culture. 54 WWW.OKMAGAZINE.COM.AU

Star Style TRAVEL KOCHI, INDIA

DUBAI, UAE

The future is now in Dubai with several boundarypushing marquee projects in 2020. Top billing goes to the six-month-long World Expo 2020, showcasing the latest visions in sustainability and mobility (think: flying cars). Also expected to open is the Museum of the Future, while 3.2km off-shore, a Europe-themed fantasy resort on an artificial archipelago called The World is gearing up to welcome first guests to underwater bedrooms and year-round snow.

KENDALL JENNER & GIGI HADID

Boho cafes, intimate homestays hidden away in lazy, colonial-era backstreets, and a raft of forward-thinking galleries, sees this city keep a tight grip on its heritage while wholeheartedly embracing its new-found cool. In 2020, street art comes to the fore at KochiMuziris Biennale, putting India firmly on the contemporary arts festival map.

WASHINGTON, DC, USA

All eyes will be on DC as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment – the law that granted women the right to vote. Iconic museums like the National Portrait Gallery, the National Museum of American History and the National Museum of Women in the Arts will have special exhibitions. Tie this in to this year’s presidential election and DC will be one of America’s most dynamic cities.

SALZBURG, AUSTRIA

Drum roll, please: the Salzburg Festival is turning 100, and this alpine city is singing about it at the top of its voice. One of the world’s greatest classical music shindigs, the festival is always a riotous feast of opera, classical music and drama – and never more so than in 2020. Salzburg will be pulling out all the stops for the centenary, with special exhibitions and events all over the historic centre. Book your tickets months ahead, and get ready to rock like Amadeus. BONN, GERMANY

Bonn’s back in the spotlight in 2020, as the city gears up to mark Beethoven’s 250th birthday. Expect a year-round line-up of concerts drawing world-famous orchestras, soloists and conductors. There are installations and competitions tuning into Beethoven’s musical genius, picnic performances, and ‘home concerts’ where local musicians fling open their doors to the public. The revamped Beethovenhalle, the city’s premier concert hall, is set to reopen in time for the festivities. 55

JESS & JUSTIN

WILL THEY MAKE IT? The couple try to repair the damage after those photos

J

ustin Timberlake is working overtime to mend his marriage to Jessica Biel, which has been in peril ever since photos surfaced last month of Justin holding hands with his Palmer co-star Alisha Wainwright. Though the 38-year-old singer issued an Instagram apology (reportedly at his wife’s insistence), a source says, ‘He’s in the doghouse. Word is Jessica came close to leaving him.’ And he may not be out of the woods yet. Justin showed up to a recent event solo, which another source says is telling: ‘They always attend together. It was surprising.’ For his part, Justin is ‘acting very contrite and being super hands-on with Silas’ – the couple’s four-year-old son (right, with Mum and Dad in happier times). But that may not be enough for the couple. Says the second source, ‘The fact they’re doing so much separately, even while Justin’s back in Los Angeles, says a lot about where they’re at right now. It could be a sign that things are over. And if not now, soon, barring a miracle.’

OWN IT, JT Jessica, 37, was wearing her wedding band after making Justin ‘take accountability’ for his actions.

KOURTNEY & YOUNES

IN LOVE AGAIN! The reality star re-bags her toyboy – just in time for the new year!

H

Kylie showed her support for babydaddy Travis by rocking his merchandise

BACK TOGETHER TOO?

Kourt’s not the only member of her clan reuniting with an ex – Kylie Jenner, who split with babydaddy Travis Scott in October, has been spotted wearing the rapper’s branded gear! ‘Kylie and Travis are not fully back together, but they’re working on their relationship and spending more time together as parents,’ shares a source of the pair, who recently spent Christmas with daughter Stormi (who’s almost two).

er recent announcement that she was stepping back from filming Keeping Up With the Kardashians to ‘spend more time as a mum and put more of my energy there’ left fans shocked. But now that she’s taken a back seat, it seems parenthood isn’t the only thing Kourtney Kardashian’s got more time for! After weeks of undercover meet-ups and secret phone calls, the 40-year-old has taken her reignited romance with ex-boyfriend Younes Bendjima, 26, public once more, to the delight of followers. The pair, who dated for two years before splitting in August 2018, appeared smitten as they enjoyed a night together at Disneyland California Adventure Park on December 17 for Kourt’s son Reign’s fifth birthday – with model Younes also gifting Reign a birthday present. ‘They were super flirty and couldn’t stop smiling,’ shared an onlooker of the pair. As OK! has reported previously, Kourtney and Younes were recently spotted trying to be incognito out at a club together. And, now, after Kourt had Younes on her arm at her annual Christmas Eve party, the secret she’s been hiding from the world seems to be out. ‘Kourtney wants to keep it under

wraps, but she also wants to do things with Younes when she wants and not have rules,’ an insider explained. ‘She has feelings for him that have never gone away, and the crazy chemistry between them is still there.’ Last October, the reality star insisted she was happily single. ‘I just feel like I’m on a different vibe,’ she shared at the time. ‘I feel so content with just myself. Like, I don’t feel like I need anybody.’ However, sources reckon that with the joy of the holiday season and Younes’ persistence, Kourt finally relented. ‘Basically she thought she could live without a man and got bored!’ an insider tells OK! ‘She was sick of having no love life and devoting herself exclusively to her kids. Younes has been after her like crazy to get back together for months, and she finally gave in. She realised how much she missed male attention. Younes says what she wants to hear – how hot she is – and right now that’s about all she needs!’

FUN LOVIN’ ‘Kourtney likes being around Younes and they have a lot of fun together,’ tells an insider. ‘Younes is good with the kids and things are easygoing with him.’

JESS SIMPSON

I’VE MADE MISTAKES In an explosive new memoir, the mum-of-three opens up about her roller-coaster life

H

er smile spoke volumes. On December 5, Jessica Simpson posted a photo of herself proudly holding a copy of her upcoming memoir, Open Book. ‘I’ve been approached many times over the years about writing a book,’ she says. ‘It never felt right until now.’ But it may not feel right to everyone. In the tell-all tome, the 39-year-old star details her tumultuous marriage to Nick Lachey, the scandals that have plagued her family as well as her own struggles with weight and alcohol – and she spares no-one’s feelings in the process. ‘Jessica likes to shock, and she’s hoping her book will do just that when it comes out in February,’ an insider says. ‘She’s not the least bit nervous about revealing too much. Everyone’s saying it should be one of the juiciest reads of 2020!’

THE BIG REVEAL

While many have reason to be worried about the book’s release, Nick, 46, may have the most cause for concern. According to the insider, Jessica is telling friends she ‘has made some horrible mistakes’ – and she views her four-year first marriage as the biggest one of all. ‘Nick should buckle up,’ warns the insider, who explains that while Jess was ‘in love’ with Nick when they tied the knot in 2002, they were both ‘way too young’ to settle down. ‘She learned a lot of things from that divorce. One was to always get a prenup!’ Of course, that’s only the tip of the iceberg, drama-wise. Jessica is also rumoured to explore the doomed marriage of her parents, Joe and Tina – which was plagued by questions about her dad’s sexuality – in addition to sister Ashlee’s infamous 2004 Saturday Night Live performance, when a technical malfunction revealed

Jess is now happily settled with Eric and kids (left) Ace, six, Birdie, nine months, and Maxwell, seven 66 WWW.OKMAGAZINE.COM.AU

she was lip-syncing… and all but destroyed her singing career. Yet it’s Jessica’s own issues that are poised to get the harshest treatment. ‘She wants to come clean about her boozing,’ says the insider, noting her husband Eric Johnson, 40, has been photographed helping the wobbly star out of ‘plenty of restaurants’. Bizarre interviews where Jess has seemingly slurred her words have raised eyebrows, too. But the biggest public fascination may be with the $291 million woman’s yo-yoing weight during her three pregnancies. In September, she revealed she’d lost 45kg after giving birth six months earlier. Readers will not only get the goss on her scale fails and successes, says the insider, but also ‘the truth about what plastic surgeries she’s had’. No topic is taboo in Open Book. ‘Jess shares all her experiences.’

MUM’S THE WORD

Jessica’s memoir Open Book launches worldwide on February 4. ‘I’m not holding anything back,’ she says.

NEWS NICK’S NOT THE ONLY EX WHO SHOULD BE SCARED She’s been exclusive with her husband of six years, Eric, since 2010. But before then, Jessica’s love life made major headlines. Whether she was dating football great Tony Romo on the heels of his break-up with Carrie Underwood or getting a shout-out from fling John Mayer in Playboy for being, as he put it, ‘sexual napalm’, she seemed to be involved with nearly every bachelor on the A-list. And there’s no doubt many of her men will make appearances in Open Book. ‘Jessica does kiss and tell,’ an insider claims. ‘Famous exes like Adam Levine, Johnny Knoxville and Jeremy Renner are all in there.’ She doesn’t pull any punches, either. ‘She’s hinted to friends about infidelity,’ tells the insider, adding that readers aren’t the only ones waiting for the book’s release in February. ‘All Jess says is, there’s cheating NICK LACHEY in her memoir.’

Jess will be personally signing 14000 copies of her book ahead of its release!

KHLOÉ KARDASHIAN ‘To keep working on myself, my mind, my body and my soul,’ the reality star, 35, says of her resolutions for 2020. ‘And to be happy!’ 6

SPOTLIGHT

ANGELINA JOLIE ‘With six children it’s hard to make resolutions, because I count my blessings every day,’ explains the actress, 44. ‘You can’t hope for more than to stay happy and healthy, I think.’

ROSIE HUNTINGTONWHITELEY ‘Not to talk to myself so much!’ declares the model, 32, of her 2020 resolution. ‘I tend to have full-blown conversations with myself. I find it therapeutic, but it’s really quite embarrassing when you get caught doing it!’

JENNIFER LAWRENCE There’s one bad habit the actress wants to rid herself of in 2020. ‘I have this really bad trait where I never have a consideration of failure,’ Jen, 29, says. ‘If I want something, I just go until I get it. That can be a problem because it doesn’t always work.’ 70 WWW.OKMAGAZINE.COM.AU

ZAC EFRON ‘I don’t usually make resolutions,’ spills Zac, 32. ‘If I need to make a change in my life, I usually just do it. I’ve never heard a good new year’s resolution. They go in one ear and out the other with me.’

HALLE BERRY

‘I don’t make resolutions as such, but I do love New Year,’ says the 53-year-old. ‘It’s my favourite holiday. It’s such an optimistic time. A fresh start. So I just try and embrace that.’

TAYLOR SWIFT

ELIZABETH OLSEN

In 2020, the actress, 30, would love to go back to theatre. ‘I didn’t have the greatest first experience, but I would love to go back,’ she says. ‘It’s what I went to school for. It’s something that I’m so scared to do, but I would love to try next year.’

‘To cut down the amount of time I spend online,’ says Taylor, who turned 30 last month. ‘If [my friends] bring up something I don’t quite understand… I just really quickly Google it, and then I’ll make a list of the things that I’ve Googled during the day, and go back to them that night and learn about them.’

Clearly Julia Morris, 51, is both a jack and master of many trades! Here, the star reveals to OK! how she juggles her busy career and family life… I’m a Celeb is back for its sixth season. Is it hard work? We’re way off the record in the UK – I think they’re up to season 17! We normally air a little later, but we’re first cab off the rank this year. It’s great because there’s nothing else to watch, only the sport. I can’t believe nobody else is onto it. The schedule is brutal but pretty exciting, too. It’s six weeks for us, and we’re in the studio at 4.30am and spat out at about 5.30 in the afternoon. It’s exhausting because there’s a lot of personality being put

out there for 14 hours a day, with half an hour off for lunch. We’re on and out there… Lucky you have great chemistry with your co-host Dr Chris Brown! I know! It’s crazy. The first thing we did together was a skit for the Logies [in 2013], and I didn’t know how funny he’d be. Now, six years on, here we are. We’re both funny, but he gives it the gravitas of knowing what he’s talking about, and I think the audience enjoy my explosions and his responses. Is it easier to get celebrities to go on the show now? It’s definitely easier. They think they know what they’re in for, even though they don’t. But I think the thing they’re interested in is at the end of the experience – when they have a feeling of rebuilding and replenishing their resilience and self-pride. We never have any idea who’s going in. We find out in a little

ceremony with the network on the night we arrive. I think it actually doesn’t matter who comes into the jungle – it’s all about what happens in camp, the layers that come away and the more real that gets. I don’t think there is much showbiz façade in Australian celebs anyway. Most Aussie performers are hustlers essentially trying to make work here and there, so it’s not like they’re not used to cleaning up after themselves or making their own dinners. How do you think someone like Caitlyn Jenner, who’s just been on the UK show, would go in South Africa? Caitlyn would be incredible. Send her over! So many amazing lives led by one person. Amazingly brave.

‘I know how lucky I am,’ says Julia, who remembers sharing a cockroach-infested pad with a friend in the early days.

After studying at Sydney’s Ensemble Theatre, the actress juggled plays with stand-up gigs.

Smooching on-screen husband Gary Sweet in the Aussie drama – cancelled in 2018 – was a career highlight. ‘Gary is a fantastic kisser,’ she says.

Julia says her I’m a Celebrity… co-host has become ‘an expert’ at dealing with her. ‘Menopause… I was an absolute nightmare. If he could survive that, we’ll be together forever!’ 74 WWW.OKMAGAZINE.COM.AU

Did the series’ early start this year mean you missed Christmas last year with your daughters Ruby and Sophie? The family did the whole big Christmas thing and then I flew out to South Africa. I couldn’t get away with it not being a thing, because our daughters are mad for Christmas. They come over to the set after a few weeks, once I’ve settled in and got my schedule together. It’s exciting for them, but they’re also like, ‘Yeah, whatever, hi Mum.’

from anger and grief into the next sphere, where I feel like it would be an honour if I was just to be nominated again. But Dan always says, ‘Let cash be your Gold Logie’, so as long as I’m working, that’s my reward.

Are your girls aware of what you do and used to seeing you on TV? Yes, they are, but they’re also more aware of what comes with it, too. People are usually really great when we’re out, but sometimes you’ll get one who just shoves their phone at the girls and says, ‘Take a photo of me and your mum!’ It’s meant well, but it can be a bit… there’s a way, guys! But saying that, I live a pretty underground life considering I’m on a lovely big show like I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

What life lesson do you swear by since hitting the big 5-0 in 2018? One of the I’m a Celeb wardrobe girls said one of the things they love about me is that I ‘refuse to wear Spanx or any shapewear’. You can’t breathe! It just comes out somewhere else and you end up with 15 boobs. Julia Morris is a Spanx-free zone.

You’ve had a huge year with I’m a Celeb and Sunday Night Takeaway, plus the Gold Logie nomination… Yes, but I’m still sad about Sunday Night Takeaway [not rating as highly as hoped]. We were up against Married at First Sight, and nothing could survive that. A show about a human sexual daisy chain – how can a sweet little family game show compete with that?! As for the Gold Logie, I’ve literally been to the psychologist about it. I’ve moved

The sixth season of I’m a Celeb will take you into mid-February. What’s after that? I usually treat myself to a replenishing three months off mid-year, so I’m going to do that again. I’ve got my I’m Not Even Joking stand-up comedy tour around Australia in September and October, so before that I’ll just spend time with family and do the supermarket run. I like to stay at home and go fully blown nuts on trying to reach ground zero on the washing – but someone always adds something new to the pile!

OLD MARRIED COUPLE Chris says it feels like he and Julia ‘are married for six weeks of every year’. ‘Then after that we get a quick divorce and go off to find other partners.’ Perfect!

e first hit our screens as a surgeon on Bondi Vet, but these days the ever-popular Dr Chris Brown spends more time in a studio than in hospital. And after five seasons of hosting I’m a Celeb alongside Julia, he and his co-star couldn’t be closer! You’re up to season six, which in TV years is like 60 years. How do you and Julia keep things fresh? The real secret to our success is absolute unflinching honesty, especially from Julia. If you ever had to swap her for another co-host, who would you pick? I might go Julia Zemiro. I wouldn’t have to remember a new name. I’m just thinking logistics. Dead or alive, who would be your ultimate jungle celebrity? Whitney Houston! She’d be a great diva who would get everyone offside then win them over again with her voice. Watch I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here from January 5 on Ten 75

DOLITTLE!

The actor admits he’s finally ready to move on from Marvel and try something new

TEXT BY EMMA SHEPHERD

H

e’s evolved into one of the most respected stars in Hollywood, with his roles on the big screen almost always turning into box office gold. Now it looks like legendary actor Robert Downey Jr’s done it again – this time with his upcoming performance in director Stephen Gaghan’s reimagining of Doctor Dolittle – the classic tale about a man who can communicate with animals. ‘I can hardly wait!’ Robert gushed on Instagram to his fans. The 54-year-old – who’s adored for his role as Tony Stark in the Iron Man and Avenger films, as well his iconic turns in films like Chaplin, Tropic Thunder and Sherlock Holmes – has admitted he was more than ready to try something new after he built up a ‘dependency’ while playing Tony for 11 years.

76 WWW.OKMAGAZINE.COM.AU

‘I had an incredible run that was creatively satisfying,’ he says of the Marvel films. ‘It was very, very, very hard work and I dug very deep, but I’ve now been forced to explore the new frontier of what is my creative and personal life.’ Dolittle is certainly quite the departure! Robert plays eccentric doctor and vet John, who prefers to help exotic animals over his human patients while he struggles to come to terms with his wife’s death seven years earlier. But when young Queen Victoria falls gravely ill, he’s forced to sail to an exotic island with his furry friends to find a cure. Tom Holland, Michael Sheen and Selena Gomez also star (or voice characters) in the highly entertaining adventurecomedy flick. ‘It’s extremely heartwarming – and we bring the funny,’ Robert shares. Horoscopes WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE WEEK AHEAD HOLDS? TURN TO THE STARS TO FIND OUT! DEC 22 – JAN 20

Um, you do know it’s summer, right? With motivation planet Mars in your astro zone of inspiration from Friday until February, you might be struggling to power down that hard-working brain of yours. Try to pace yourself, Capricorn – and don’t let your overactive mind exhaust you. Spending time outdoors will be supercalming for your soul.

ARIES

MAR 21 – APR 20

You’re never happier than when you’re surrounded by people, and this month the stars are encouraging social shenanigans. With passion planet Mars in your astro zone of networking, you’ll find socialising and collaborations bring maximum joy. If you’re single that could also involve meeting someone sexy via friendship circles – woo!

TAURUS

APR 21 – MAY 21

FEB 20 – MAR 20

Pisces, do you even know how awesome you are?! You’re the wisest sign of the zodiac, but you tend to hold yourself back. Currently the planets are pushing you to show your talents to other people. Big-game planet Jupiter is hanging in your astro zone of collabs and networking, forcing you to get comfortable with speaking up for yourself.

GEMINI

MAY 22 – JUN 21

Single, and totally over the mingle? Well, get your flirt back on, because with love planet Venus in your astro zone of long-term goals, relationships that start before January 13 have got potential to go the distance (yaaas!). And since Venus also rules money, you could meet someone who offers you a lucrative career opportunity (kerching!).

Gotta love them chilled holiday vibes, hey Gemini! But don’t get too relaxed – aggressive Mars is moving into your astro zone of relationships from Friday until February, meaning fights and disharmony with your nearest and dearest. If you can avoid overreacting or letting your mind invent problems that don’t exist, you’ll emerge unscarred.

CANCER

LEO

VIRGO

JUL 24 – AUG 23

AUG 24 – SEP 23

Need help kickstarting those new year exercise goals? Motivation planet Mars zooms into your astro zone of health and wellness from Friday until February, pushing you to hit the gym and finally make those vegie recipes you saved on your phone in 2015. On Thursday, if you’re trying to resolve an issue involving other peeps, disconnect from power plays and drama.

If your relationship feels less like a rom-com and more like an episode of Killing Eve, the planets want you to fly the white flag. Venus, planet of peace and love, is in your astro zone of relationships, replacing aggression and drama with harmony and understanding. Instead of blaming and shaming, try accountability and boundaries.

Stock up on tissues, Virgo. With fiery Mars in your astro zone of emotions and family, you could be crying a river that may end global drought forever. Being near the ocean or a lake can sometimes be helpful in taming wild emotions. This planetary alignment can also fuel family plans, so if you’re eager to get up the duff in 2020, this may motivate you to get started.

LIBRA

SCORPIO

SAGITTARIUS

Whoa, did someone turn up the heat?! From Friday, sex planet Mars (also your co-ruler, FYI) is in your astro zone of confidence, and you’ve never felt hotter. Yep, you’ve got tickets on yourself, and that could work out pretty well for singles keen to reel in a new partner. That confidence means you should also feel more empowered about maintaining high standards and boundaries.

You know what you want, so why aren’t you going for it? Pluto, planet of secrets, is hooking up with adulting planet Saturn in your astro zone of selfconfidence, putting hidden insecurities right up in your grill. You might have what Oprah calls ‘aha moments’, linking your self-esteem issues to past crappy experiences. It may be uncomfortable, but it can help you bust through your limits.

SEPT 23-OCT 23

celebrates her 37th birthday on January 2

JAN 21 – FEB 19

PISCES

Thirsty for adventure? (Well, duh!) With motivated Mars in your astro zone of travel and risk-taking from Friday onwards, you could be all over Skyscanner… or at the beach. With Mars bringing the sexy vibes, you might hook up with someone foreign. Thursday may involve a clash of personalities, but if you adopt empathy you’ll get through.

JUN 22 – JUL 23

KATE BOSWORTH

AQUARIUS

Saying ‘treat yo’self’ to a Libra is kinda like suggesting Tan from Queer Eye should try a French tuck. You love to reward yourself, and the planets are giving you full permission to go big with that (yaaas!). Jupiter, planet of expansion, is in your astro zone of self-care most of 2020, so focus on doing nice things for yourself (sans guilt). This planetary alignment can also make you quite emotional…
