WELCOME TO OUR 2016 FALL BENEFIT RECITAL French-American Piano Society is a non-profit organization designed to promote cultural exchange, education, and networking between France and the United States through French pianists and music.

Founded in 2014, our Society provides scholarships for aspiring young French pianists to take part in competitions and festivals in the United States, presents world-renowned artists in recital, and endeavors to promote the activities of French pianists in America and American pianists dedicated to French piano music.

Last summer, we were pleased to announce that all four of our scholarship recipients placed in the finals and semi-finals of MacKenzie Piano Competition at the International Keyboard Institute and Festival at Hunter College!

This evening, we are delighted to welcome Pascal RogĂŠ who exemplifies the finest in French pianism. The program will highlight works by Erik Satie, one of the most renowned French composer in the early 20th century Parisian avant-garde, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of his birth.

PASCAL ROGE Born in Paris, Pascal Rogé was a student at the Paris Conservatory and was also mentored by Julius Katchen and the great Nadia Boulanger. Winner of the Georges Enesco piano competition and awarded 1st prize of Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaut Piano competition, he became an exclusive Decca recording artist at the age of seventeen.

His playing of Poulenc, Satie, Fauré, Saint-Saëns and especially Ravel, is characterized by its elegance, beauty and stylistically perfect phrasing.

Mr. Rogé has performed in almost every major concert hall in the world and with every major orchestra across the globe and has collaborated with the most distinguished conductors in history.

One of the world’s most distinguished recording artists, Pascal Rogé has won many prestigious awards, including two Gramophone Awards, a Grand Prix du Disque and an Edison Award for his interpretations of the Ravel and Saint- Saëns concerti along with the complete piano works of Ravel, Poulenc and Satie.

Recently, Pascal has enjoyed playing recitals for four-hands/ two-pianos with his partner in life and in music Ami Rogé.

Together, they travelled the world and made acclaimed appearances at prestigious festivals and concert halls and recorded several CDs dedicated to the French two-piano and fourhands repertoire.

Recently chairman of the Geneva Piano competition, Pascal Rogé is also dedicated to teaching and gives regular masterclasses.

OUR SOCIETY ALIVE Since our creation in 2014, we have made our goal to develop a community that would be as passionate as we are in supporting young pianists. Here are a few highlights and achievements so far in 2016:

February: Marilyn Nonken presents "Spectral Salon". The recital features works by major French composers Tristan Murail and Hugues Dufourt, as well as young Americans influenced by their work and musique spectrale: Richard Carrick, Christopher Trapani, and Mikel Kuehn.

April: Irina Kataeva-Aimart presents “Avant Garde Russian composers” at NYU Steinhardt with a cocktail reception sponsored by our Society.

Members Etienne and Catherine Lamairesse host Hélène Tysman (’12) for a private recital at their Westchester home.

Hélène Tysman joins Roche-Bobois and Steinway and Sons for a solo recital at Roche Bobois’s flagship store in New York.

June: Hotel Sofitel hosts the first French-American Piano Week and showcases French and American pianists, Matthieu Cognet, Sandrine Erdely-Sayo, Audrey Abela, Inga Kashakashvili, Anna Keiserman, Marilyn Nonken on a Spirio piano from Steinway and Sons.

French pianists Hélène Tysman and Sandrine Erdely-Sayo inaugurate the first edition of the “Piano on the Rocks” Festival in Sedona. This festival explores the interconnection between solo piano literature, storytelling and literature.

July: Marie-Ange Nguci (‘15) performs publicly at the Hunter College Kaye play house as part of IKIF 2016.
