As a Maker, young people will have fun learning to “hack” a solution using odds-and-ends, common household objects, duct tape and other fun things. Have you heard of a Rube Goldberg apparatus, perhaps in an OK GO or YouTube video? It is a deliberately over-engineered machine that performs a simple task in a very complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction. That is the kind of thing we aspire to at DIY Maker’s Camp!
BOARD GAME CREATION
We play games - and you get to make one as well. First, we will learn the history of board games and the major companies got their start. Then onto developing strategy games, as they can help improve problem-solving and decision-making skills. Players learn to analyze situations; plan for long-term goals; manage resources; assess risks and adapt to changing circumstances and they are downright FUN! We will build a game from scratch, including rules and marketing ideas. On Friday, we will share all we have created over the week. No camp on 6/19 Juneteenth.
