FROM THE DESK OF THE MAYOR Cities around the world are being tested to the extreme with the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and Fremont, Ohio is no different. Simultaneously a health, social, and economic crisis, COVID-19 is exposing how well cities are managed and its impact is showing the extent to which each city is able to function, or not, during this time of crisis. In a time of such uncertainty, I want to commend the great effort put forth by my Administration and Department Heads to prioritize the needs of the city and lay out an operation plan that would allow “business as usual” with minimal disruptions for the residents of Fremont. The city stepped up immediately and took what I felt were appropriate measures to control the spread of the virus in our community. With the Governor’s first order to close schools and to prohibit mass gatherings of 50 people or more we were one of the first cities in Northwest Ohio to close all of our city buildings to the public including our community recreation facility; terminating all youth and adult programming for spring sports. We reduced the number of staff working in our buildings by allowing essential employees the ability to work remotely from home and allowing service employees to rotate working shifts. I truly believe this has allowed us to provide the same level of customer service that the residents of Fremont are accustom to. As we learn to navigate through the next several months I would like to wish all a safe and healthy summer! Daniel R. Sanchez Mayor
