2017 DESIGN PRINCIPLES REPAIR + RESTORE + ENHANCE Design Principles: Physical improvements will be integrated with the existing design, enhancing the Park’s iconic nature and embracing the legacy and design intent of its original creators.

Stronger connections and wayfinding, as well as a balance of active and passive spaces, will increase safety and use while maintaining Freeway Park’s sense of tranquility.

Improvements will be equity-driven, following Halprin’s original intent that Freeway Park be ‘a park for everyone’.

Fountains Architecture Peace REPAIR and Respite Many elements of the Park are successful, well-loved, and have madeSpace a strong imprint on the cultural psychology of Green Seattle. These elements are the best candidates for repair -- bringing the Park back to its baseline functionality by Connection to Downtown addressing deferred maintenance issues.

DESIGN PRINCIPLE: Physical improvements will be integrated with the existing design, enhancing the Park’s identity rather than replacing it.

Improved Wayfinding RESTORE Parts of the park are well-designed but have also been wellMore Lighting loved and subject to wear from the often-harsh climate of Seattle. These elements are the best candidates for restoration -- bringing the Park back to its baseline aesthetic Restrooms quality.
