Little Policeman, Big Contribution Young Boy Donates to Teague PD

H

onorary Junior Policeman Case Williams of Teague has accomplished big things for his local police department this summer. Concerned by news reports of violence against police officers, four-year old Case, the son of Jamie West, wanted to do something to show his support for the men and women in blue. With a little help from grandmother, Debbie Sanoja, owner of the Cubs Den in downtown Teague, Case began selling lemonade and snow cones to raise money for the police department. To date, Case has raised $2,500, which he officially presented to Chief of Police Dan Ramsey and Mayor Earnest Pack at the August 15th Council meeting. Case had only one request, that the money be used to purchase a narcotics dog that would help keep his new friends in uniform safe. Chief Ramsey shared that the Department is currently looking at three female Labradors to fill the position. Junior Officer Case will have the honor of naming the City’s new K-9 officer. “That is remarkable!” exclaimed Alderman Chris Nickelberry. Raising $2,500 selling lemonade is 4-year-old Case Williams. n unusual election year has just gotten interesting, with yet another local race in play as a write-in candidate files with the Freestone County Judge’s office this week. Cooper Daniel announced his candidacy as a write-in for County Commissioner – Precinct 3.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while,” says Daniel. According to Daniel, he did not run initially because incumbent Bodie Emmons is “a friend and neighbor.” As with many of the local candidates this year, Emmons faced three challengers during the Republican primaries. The

race went into a run-off, with Emmons ultimately losing to Michael Daniels by 67 votes. With this new development, voters living in Precinct 3 will be asked, once again, to chose a new County Commissioner – Republican Michael Daniels or Write-In Candidate Cooper Daniel. Karen Leidy reporting.
