Teague Police Chief Resigns Officer-In-Charge Appointed as Search for Interim Chief Begins

L

ack of confidence – this is the wording used by Teague Aldermen, who considered approval of a resolution declaring the Council’s lack of confidence in Police Chief Dennis Cox; as well as discussing his removal from office, during executive session of the Teague City Council meeting, Monday, August 17, 2015.

Chief Cox voluntarily submitted his letter of resignation to the Council. During a phone interview with The “Times,” Mayor Earnest Pack states that Chief Cox will receive an honorable rating, as well as positive professional references in the future. Aldermen must meet later this week in order to officially accept his resignation.

“Police work for the City of Teague will continue full speed ahead,” Mayor Pack reassures. The Mayor reports that ranking officer, Sgt. Matt Foree, has been appointed officer-in-charge, pending the hiring of an interim chief. He assures that all ongoing cases are being handled accordingly. Megan Hempel reporting.

Arrests Made in Main Street Burglaries

T

he City of Teague has had a rash of Burglaries in the past few weeks. On August 11, 2015 Pharmacy Plus was broken into, where someone gained entry into the business through the roof. As Chief Dennis Cox was conducting the investigation into this burglary, he was called to assist the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office on N. 7th Ave. Chief Deputy Robert Willis and Sgt. Clayton Aldridge were at a residence looking for a runaway. When the runaway juvenile was found, there were signs of illegal activity at this residence. The home owner gave consent to check the residence, where drugs were found that matched the type of drugs that were stolen from Pharmacy Plus. When interviews were conducted on subjects at the

residence, information was obtained that one or more juveniles may be responsible for the burglary. Chief Dennis Cox and Sgt. Clayton Aldridge interviewed a juvenile who provided a name of the people responsible for the burglary, as well as other burglaries that have been occurring in the city. Teague PD later located another juvenile and brought him to Teague Police Department, where an interview was conducted, and the juvenile provided information on the recovery of the stolen property taken from the pharmacy. On August 13, 2015 Teague PD obtained an arrest warrant for a third person involved in
