Smoldering Heat Institutes Ban T
he abundance of rain enjoyed in the Spring has given way to parched earth, dried grass and dying brush all over the County,
prompting Commissioners to put a burn ban in place during the August 5, 2015 Freestone County Commissioners Court meeting.
They join 77 other Texas Counties in prohibiting outdoor burning, including Anderson, Limestone, Leon and Navarro.

Brazen Suspects Still At Large

t was early, 4:57 a.m. in Wortham, Texas, on August 5, 2015, when two males, believed to be black and in their early 20s, calmly held up the CEFCO Convenience store
clerk, according to Wortham Chief of Police Kelly Butler. Could there be a connection between this robbery and the CEFCO robbery in Teague, Texas of July 24, 2015?
The public is being asked to help solve this crime. If anyone recognizes either of the two subjects in the photographs or video, or has any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the individuals who carried out this crime. please contact the Wortham Police Department at 254-7653444 or 254-765-3319. Teague and Wortham Police officers are reviewing both surveillance tapes and sharing information to determine if there are similarities, according to Wortham’s Chief Butler and Teague’s Chief Cox. A lone assailant was wearing a mask in the Teague robbery. Chief Butler said there were two suspects in Wortham who were wearing dark colored hoodies, masks, and shorts. Socks were covering their hands. In both robberies, guns were used to threaten the store clerks. Both took place very early in the morning hours, with the thieves leaving on foot. Thankfully, the clerks were unharmed in both places. The thieves got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and coins at the Wortham store and $150 at Teague. There were no other people in the Wortham store or in that parking lot at the time of the robbery. The Wortham suspects were last seen going west across Third Street. The Wortham Police Department is asking for help from the public in assisting with solving this crime. he highly anticipated trial of Larson Moore III, accused of the murder of Marjorie Pevehouse of Teague in February of 2014, has been reset for October 19, 2015. Judge Deborah Oakes Evans granted a joint motion for continuance filed August 3, 2015 by Moore’s defense team, attorneys Chad Morgan
and David E. Moore, and signed by District Attorney Chris Martin. The jury selection process will still go on as planned. Those who have received a summons are required to report as instructed on August

No Injuries in Explosion
A large explosion was heard halfway around the county at 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening, August 8th, after a fire broke out at Dennis Cockran’s Auto Shop off Highway 27 in Fairfield, Texas. Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) was joined by Dew, Streetman, Teague, and Wortham VFDs, along with Sheriff’s deputies and Fairfield EMS.
