Merriment Begins, It’s Fair Week! SHOPPING Indoor - Outdoor

“T

he 2nd Greatest Show on Earth” took to the streets of downtown Fairfield, Texas as the annual parade kicked of the 2016 Freestone County Fair and Rodeo. Best Dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl road their horses, waving at the crowds lined on either side of Commerce Street. Two-year-old Bralee Lott is named this year’s Best Dressed Cowgirl. She is the daughter of Soncharae and Allen Lott of Fairfield. Best Dressed Cowboy for 2016 is two-year-old Kyler Ridge, son of Kristie and Cole Ridge of Oakwood. Earning Most Creative for their float entry is Incommons Bank. Driving off with Most Entertaining float is Sam’s Restaurant / Bush’s Chicken. Most Beautiful entry (at right) in this year’s parade is the Miss Freestone County Fair float. The coveted “Spirit of Freestone” trophy goes to Cowboy Heritage Church. This award is given to the local organization or business that best represents or interprets the theme. For pictures of the other parade winners, turn to page 1-B in this week’s edition. Following the parade, the littlest cowboys and cowgirls competed in the Stick Horse Barrel Racing and Stick Bull Riding contests at the Ike Carden Pavilion at the fairgrounds (pick up a copy of next week’s edition for pictures of this event). The Miss Teen and Miss Freestone County Fair Pageant is being held Tuesday, June 14th as the Freestone County Times is being delivered to newsstands. Crowning is being held at Fairfield High School Auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m. Admission cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Judging is complete for the annual Home & Garden show.

Woman Arrested Following Road Rage Stop

F

reestone County Sheriff’s office, with assistance from Fairfield PD, responded to a road rage complaint on Sunday evening, June 12, 2016, around 5:00 p.m. The stop ended with the male driver being released, and the female passenger arrested for having a small

amount of marijuana in her possession. There were no firearms located during this stop, explained Sheriff Don Anderson. The stop took place in the McDonalds parking lot of Fairfield.

FHD Board Approves New Name A

t the June 8, 2016 meeting of the Fairfield Hospital District Board, held at ETMCFairfield, members approved the new name for the medical complex currently under the management of ETMC. Beginning January 1, 2017, the hospital will no longer be under the ownership of ETMC; and board members are working diligently to make the transition as smooth as possible.
