Come Early or Stay Late Day trips from Fredericton, NB

St. Andrews by the Sea

In addition to our many city attractions, there are countless pre and post convention options and packages available for your delegates.

Popular for its whale watching, kayaking, and first class golf course, St. Andrews-by-the-Sea offers unique waterfront shops in a quaint downtown setting. Nearby visit Canada's Chocolate Town, St. Stephen, home of the inventor of the chocolate bar, Ganong.

Explore the Majestic Saint John River Valley If you want a change from the hustle and bustle of city life, visit Kings Landing Historical Settlement, where costumed interpreters bring the 19th century to life, or visit the world’s longest covered bridge in Hartland. Venture to Grand Falls and discover the majesty of New Brunswick’s largest waterfall. Almost any route you choose to follow on either side of the river will offer rewarding views. The City of Saint John is a busy seaport steeped in history. Check out the Hall of Whales at the New Brunswick Museum, which features full size models.

Bay of Fundy Stop at the fishing harbour and see fishing boats lodged on the harbour floor during low tide. Sample excellent seafood chowder nearby before hiking or driving on a beautiful cliffside trail overlooking the coast. Explore the sea caves of St. Martins. Offering panoramic vistas, the Fundy Trail is a hiker's paradise.

Hopewell Rocks – The Highest Tides in the World Few places on Earth are as awe-inspiring as New Brunswick’s Bay of Fundy. A visit to this special place will reward you with magnificent tides, breathtaking coastline and endless adventure. Hike coastal paths, walk on the ocean floor at low tide, kayak, rappel, visit small rural art studios, enjoy quality seafood cuisine, or simply sightsee. Nearby Cape Enrage offers rappelling, rock climbing, kayaking, and beachcombing for fossils. The Miramichi If fishing is your game, the Miramichi River is for you. The Atlantic salmon is king of the river: see for yourself at the Atlantic Salmon Museum in Doaktown. The city of Miramichi is also home to several annual celebrations and festivals – Folksong, Irish, Fiddle, Agricultural, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Acadian, Scots – and all of them include music. Acadian Experience From the Acadian Peninsula to the Acadia of the Southeast, the Acadian lifestyle has been shaped by the sea, and a blissful backdrop of coastal islands, lighthouses and seaside cottages provides an idyllic setting for a beach vacation enriched with culture. Head to Shediac, the Lobster Capital of the World, for lunch. While you’re there, dip into the warmest salt water north of Virginia at Parlee Beach, Atlantic Canada’s most popular shoreline. To sample a different type of Acadian lifestyle, travel into the hearty woods and farming lands of northwestern New Brunswick. Here you’ll meet the Brayons, whose distinct language, cuisine and way of life can be experienced throughout the legendary Republic of Madawaska.

Attractions and Activities Kings Landing Historical Settlement Location: 25 min west of Fredericton, Exit 253, TC Hwy Open daily, from early June to mid-October. At this bustling living history village guests will be immersed in the sights, sounds, colours, and personalities that transformed a young colony into a vibrant nation, beginning with the arrival of the Loyalists and continuing to the Victorian era and the turn of the 20th century. Visitors are encouraged to roam the rooms, become part of stories playing out among villagers and getting their hands dirty – literally. Visitors can truly experience the 1800s – creaking wagons pulled by work horses, the whooshing of hoop skirts, and the distant melodies from fiddlers and dancing townsfolk. Learn first-hand how ordinary people lived and worked in the 19th century. There are over 70 historic buildings on the 100 acre site and 100+ costumed staff trained to provide visitors with an authentic visit to New Brunswick in the 1800s. The permanent collection was established in 1959 by Lord Beaverbrook with his generous donation of British and Canadian works of art. As the provincial art gallery of New Brunswick, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery presents a rotating schedule of contemporary and historical exhibitions that give focus to the art and visual culture of New Brunswick and the Atlantic region, as well as of Canada, Britain, and other regions of the globe, as reflective of the particular nature and strengths of the permanent collection.

The Gallery’s permanent collection includes approximately 5,000 works. Some of Atlantic Canada’s finest artists are represented within it, including Molly Lamb Bobak, Mary Pratt, Alex Colville, Tom Forestall and Yvon Gallant. Other notable holdings include international artworks by Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, Lucian Freud, the only oil painting of his work on public display in Canada, J.M.W. Turner, Joshua Reynolds, Graham Sutherland, and Salvador Dalí's masterpiece Santiago El Grande. The Gallery also hosts temporary and touring exhibitions from across Canada and around the world. Please note that only a small selection of works can be displayed at any given time. How about Dinner at the Gallery?
