What is a Hydro Turbine Generator Unit? And How it is Work

What is Hydro Turbine? Hydro turbine generator units are equipment found in hydroelectric power facilities that convert the energy of flowing water into electrical energy by transferring it to a spinning shaft. When water is applied to these turbines' blades, they begin to revolve or spin. In the field of hydropower, which is the process of producing power from water, these turbines are crucial. Turbines are often built in the same way. A rotating shaft or plate is equipped with a row of blades. The inner shaft of the turbine is thus made to rotate by the passage of water over its blades. The turbine is to convert mechanical energy—such as that from water, steam, or wind—into electrical energy, which will cause the generator to spin. Electricity is created from mechanical energy by the generator. This generator and turbine combination is referred to as a generating unit in hydropower plants. Turbine Flow On the basis of how water flows through the turbine itself, hydro turbines can be categorized. Water can travel through a turbine in a number of different ways. Three types of water flow via turbines result from this: 1. Water flows through the turbine axially, perpendicular to its axis of rotation. 2. Water enters the turbine in a radial flow that is parallel to the rotation.
