Membership

Join the library today to access the wide range of resources available. A library membership is free, so why wait!

You can join at any Frankston City Libraries branch

Show a form of identification providing both your name and current permanent residential address.

If you don’t have the ID needed, or you have a Community Connectors Program letter, then please speak to a library team member for assistance.

Under 16? A parent or guardian can show identification, sign the membership card and act as guarantor.

YA membership 16–18 year olds can join without a guarantor and have immediate access to all online resources and borrow 2 items at a time.

You can also join online

Online registration allows you to place 2 reservations and have immediate access to all online resources.

Upgrade to a full membership by showing ID on your next visit to the library.

Borrowing, Returning and Reserving

LATE

FEES

No late fees at Frankston City Libraries!

Your free Frankston City Libraries card means you can:

• Access up to 40 items at a time, including magazines, DVDs, CDs, books and talking books.

• Borrow up to 3 magazines per title at a time.

You can also borrow:

• 10 eBooks per platform at a time.

• 10 Audiobooks per platform at a time.

• 5 free music downloads from Freegal per week.

Simply return the items to the library when finished and discover what you’ll read, listen to or watch next!

Items are available for three week loans.

Reserving

Reserve up to 40 library items at a time for free! Reserve online through the catalogue, via the Frankston City Libraries App or in person with one of our librarians.

We will notify you when your reservation is available for collection at your chosen location. Be sure to collect within the 10 day hold period otherwise the item will move to the next person in line.

Keep your membership details up to date to receive notification by SMS or email when your item becomes available.

Returning your library items

Library items can be returned to Carrum Downs, Frankston and Seaford Libraries 24/7 and to the Langwarrin Customer Service Centre during opening hours.

Items can also be returned to other library locations at Karingal PLACE Neighbourhood Centre, Frankston North Community Centre and Frankston South Community Centre.

Check our website for details of chute closures over holiday periods and public holidays.

Renewing your loans

If your item is not a Most Wanted book, Frankston City Libraries will automatically renew your items for you twice, if there are no reservations on them. That means you have up to 9 weeks to enjoy your item!

If someone else has reserved the item you have, you will be notified and will need to return it to the library by the due date.

Need to reset or create your PIN? You can change your password at any time via our online catalogue. Just click ‘forgot your password’.

Look out for new, high-demand titles in the Most Wanted collection. Available for one week loans at Frankston, Carrum Downs, Seaford and Langwarrin outreach.

Library of Things

In collaboration with Waste

Circularity at Frankston City Council, we’re looking at solutions for our community to reduce waste, reuse common household items and live more sustainably.

Discover the Library of Things (LoT), a curated selection of unconventional resources ranging from gadgets to tools, kits, and electronics, all yours to explore for free with a library card.

Things include Kodak film scanner, sewing machine and overlocker, garden tools, bike repair kit, tool kit, induction cooktops, cookie cutters, cake decorating tools, food dehydrator, yard games, Cricut machines, blood pressure monitors and more! All available to borrow directly from the library.

To access these unique items, you’ll need to:

Seed Library

Let us help you get your garden started!

“Borrow”

Borrow up to three packets of seeds from Frankston or Carrum Downs Library.

Grow

Plant the seeds in your garden.

Collect

Once you have grown and enjoyed produce, harvest the seeds from plants as they finish their life cycle.

Return

Return some of your harvested seeds to any library branch to share with others!

You’ll also find:

About Our Storytime Sessions

Baby Rhyme Time (Under 12 months, non-mobile)

Baby Rhyme Time is a free session for babies aged 0–12 months, who are not yet walking.

Join us for a relaxed half hour of songs, rhymes and bonding with your baby to support their early learning and your role as their first teacher.

Tiny Tots (mobile–3 years)

Join us for this fun, free session designed especially for toddlers on the move to explore, learn and play.

Enjoy the simple stories, songs, puppets, scarves, shakers and more with your little one.

Preschool (3–5 year olds)

This is a free session for 3–5 year old preschoolers. Join us as we enjoy songs and discover the best books for your preschool-aged child in a relaxed environment. Preschool storytime is the perfect place to have fun, socialise and learn tips to support your child’s literacy.

Kids Corner

It’s never too early to start reading!

The library has a huge range of children’s books, films and music. Choose from new releases or old favourites.

Join the library and your child will receive a:

• Free library bag

• Board book for those under 12 months old

• Recommended reading lists and reading tips

The library can support new readers with a range of books available, from picture books and board books, to early readers. Ask our librarians to show you what’s available.

Kinder and school visits

We welcome visits to the library by kinders, early learning centres, primary and secondary schools.

Email or call the library for more information and be sure to call ahead before a visit to check for space.

Reading Challenges

Each year, the children of Frankston City are encouraged to keep reading with a variety of reading challenges. Sign up for the library eNews to keep up to date with the next challenge.

School Holiday Events

Leave the school holiday fun to us! School holidays with Frankston City Libraries are always jam packed with free events for school aged children. Join us at Carrum Downs, Seaford, Karingal, Frankston South, Frankston North and Frankston for lots of fun!

With events covering, magic, STEM, craft, gardening, movies, dancing, cultural experiences, drawing, special guest authors, educational shows and much much more, there is something for every child aged 4–14 years, all for FREE!

After School Activities

If you’re looking for free activities to enjoy with your child after school, then Frankston City Libraries has you covered!

We offer a selection of activities to appeal to children aged 4 years +, across our branches. Come along, make some new friends and think outside the box with us.

Calling all Brick-Heads! Are you a master brick builder? A crafty creator? Or do you like to just start and see where the bricks take you? Well, then our LEGO Builders Club is for you! Every Sunday afternoon you can build whatever your imagination desires!

FrankTALKs

Our author talks include international, debut and selfpublished authors. FrankTALKs connect you to writers and people who share the same interests as you.

Digital Literacy and Support

Library staff are happy to trouble shoot quick tech problems in the branch. If your issues requires specialist attention book a On-on-One.

One-on-one sessions

Book a free session for help with any number of technical issues you may be having. These can be conducted in person or online.

Digital support workshops

Frankston City Libraries facilitate regular digital support workshops, where you can learn the basics of tech, online shopping, scam awareness, and much more, in a group setting.

Libraries After Dark

Join us at Carrum Downs library on Thursday nights until 10pm and experience Libraries After Dark! Along with all the normal borrowing, computers and printing services, we have a range of activities, workshops, FrankTALKs and games. Or just come in for a cuppa and a chat.

Workshops

Frankston City Libraries work closely with many facilitators and organisations to be able to bring a wide range of informative and fun workshops to our community for free!

Workshops include sustainability education, crafting, gardening, writing, upskilling for jobs, health and wellbeing, community safety and so much more!

Book Club

Embrace your love of reading by starting a book club with your friends. For an annual fee, our library service offers book packs, including 10 copies of a title from our ever-growing book club collection, and accompanying discussion questions. Discover new authors, share ideas and meet new people.

Home Library Service

Know someone who loves to read or listen to books, but can’t get to the library? Frankston City Libraries offer a FREE delivery service!

A range of resources can be delivered such as books, magazines, large print books, talking books, envoy connects, movies and documentaries.

Who is this service for?

Community Members who live in the Frankston City municipality and:

• have a disability

• are too frail to visit the library

• have mobility issues or

• have blindness/low vision

Computers, printing and photocopying

Self-serve printing, photocopying and scanning facilities are available at Frankston, Carrum Downs and Seaford. Scanning is free and can be saved to a USB (provide your own, or purchase one from the library) or direct to your email.

Book and use our free computers

Free high speed WiFi

Print, copy and scan

Access free WiFi at Frankston, Carrum Downs and Seaford branch, just using your library card and pin. Computers available to access at Langwarrin outreach without a library membership.

Justice of the Peace Services

A Justice of the Peace (JP) service is available at select times at our Frankston and Carrum Downs branches.

This service is free and staffed by volunteers. JPs can assist residents with the following:

• Attesting the execution of a document

• Witnessing a statutory declaration

• Witnessing an affidavit for use in court

• Certifying true copies of an original document

• Certifying a person’s identity

E-Mobility Recharge Points

Available at our Frankston, Carrum Downs and Seaford branches.

To use these recharge points;

Please bring your own charging cable.

Look for the “Recharge Here” signage.

Park your e-mobility scooter on the mat provided.

Plug in to recharge while enjoying the brochures, books or events on offer!

Recycling Stations

Do you have any old batteries, mobile phones, light globes, CDs, DVDs, or X-rays lying around at home that you don’t know what to do with or where to take them?

Dispose of them for free by taking them to any one of Frankston’s community recycling stations, located at Frankston, Carrum Downs and Seaford Libraries.

Let’s work together to keep these materials out of landfill and give them a new life. It is best to dispose of them safely and correctly.

FAQs

Can I volunteer at the library?

Volunteers are an important part of our library service delivery and play a vital role in the creation of a viable and sustainable local community. A variety of volunteering positions come up at the library.

Parking

On and off-street parking is available at Frankston Library

Enter the Frankston Arts Centre car park on Young Street. Open 7am–1.30am daily.

Frankston City Libraries is late fine free!

There are no charges for overdue items, however these items need to be returned before further borrowing is available. Items overdue for longer than 28 days will be deemed to be lost, and replacement costs will apply. Replacement costs are calculated on an individual item basis. Return the items to clear the account.

If a library card is lost or stolen, library members are responsible for any items borrowed on their card until the loss is reported to the library.
